  • This looks amazing.

  • Arcus Diabolus

So that vampire WAS Elena after all.

  • AnthonyLJones

    Dinosaurs??

    • Arcus Diabolus

      BIG ones.

    • Zombie

The rest of the cycle of Ghalta, Primal Hunger.

      Zetalpa, Primal Dawn: White

      Primal Tide: Blue

      Zacama, Primal Calamity: Black

      Etali, Primal Storm: Red

      Ghalta, Primal Hunger: Green

      • Tim

I think Tetzimoc is the Black one. Not sure but the Primal Calamity one seems like it’s outside the cycle, maybe a multi-color/5-color dino. Just a guess.

        • Alexandre Houplon

maybe Primal Calamity is a dinoTron, we can invoke by sacrificing all other Elders. It would be unplayable but really fun.

        • Necrachilles

Think you’re right about Tetzimoc. Calamity is probably 5 color lol

        • Zombie

Tetzimoc is only the Black one if his name was mistranslated, and it’s actually Primal and not Primordial.

Which is still possible, but we have to wait and see for official spoilers.

Zacama has Primal in its English name, and it’s obviously got Black card art. It’s whether or not Zacama has more than just Black.

Also, Zacama was spoiled in the same grouping as the rest of the Primal cycle, and has the exact same Primal moniker for the cycle.

      • AnthonyLJones

You think the three headed one might be Jund?

        • Zombie

It’s possible, since we had a Naya one in Ixalan. But since it has Primal in its name, unless there’s another Primal dinosaur in the cycle to fill black, Zacama is the most likely.

  • Zombie

Hopefully Kumena is either costed well enough to provide a new tool for Modern Merfolk to escape Tier 2.5, or he’s got a cool enough ability to become a new viable Merfolk general in EDH.

I’ve been wanting to make a merfolk EDH deck for a while now but none of the existing legendaries really tickle my fancy.

Also those Elders confirm that we have at least 2 Elder cycles in Rivals of Ixalan.

Tetzimoc is part of the Primordial cycle, and these are part of the Primal cycle.

Unless Tetzimoc was mistranslated and there’s Mythic Primals and Rare Primals, and Tetzimoc is one of the Rare Primals.

Edit: Tetzimoc is confirmed the black Elder in Ghalta’s cycle.

That means Zacama is almost certainly multicolored, likely to act as an opposing tricolor dino to the Naya B I G B O Y E from Ixalan (My guess is Jund, could just as likely be Abzan).

    • cement dorado

it wasn’t mistranslated. it says primordial. the issue is that maybe they change it for English because there is no better word for primal in Spanish….

      • Zombie

The issue is Zacama is already an obvious Black dinosaur, and has Primal in his name.

And he was put along with all of the other Primal cycle Elder legends.

I don’t think they would just randomly spoil a multi color legend with the same cycle moniker as a mono color cycle.

Edit: Tetzimoc’s page wasn’t translated perfectly, his title is “Primal Death”.

        • eltratzo

wasn’t it confirmed that there would be 6 elder dinosaurs?

          • Zombie

Haven’t seen confirmation of that anywhere, so it’s not information I myself could have gone on.

        • cement dorado

I agree. I think it will be a double cycle

  • Dr. Burn Crow

I like that sparkyboi dinosaur. I bet he likes to go fast.

    • Zombie

*Insert Generic Big Red Haste Drag- I mean Dinosaur Mythic Here*

      • Dr. Burn Crow

It’d be pretty cool if it did something with burn effects, but I wouldn’t oppose something like haste, double strike and prowess on a big nilla dino.

  • Avery Standley

I hope we get more UB Dinosaurs since the cycle of legendaries opens up dinosaurs to all colors.

BTW your missing the D in Elenda.

  • Márcio Siqueira

Would Zeltapa be the golden beast that snatched the Immortal sun?

    • Marvin Sürig

I guess no because Zacama, Primal Calamity looks a bit more golden.

    • Dylan Boyd

I’ll roll with Zeltapa on this because it was flown over and the beast had wings.

    • Brogan Justicar Gibbons

No because the art book explicitly states Azor both made the Immortal Sun, using a part of his own spark, as is a sphinx who currently guards the Sun. Why he is trying to keep Planeswalkers from leaving Ixalan to protect it is as yet unknown

      • Dylan Boyd

Thank you for that info, I don’t have the art book and that just shed A WHOLE LOTTA LIGHT on the hypothesis

  • Marvin Sürig

Green one is called Hunger. Green cards with Hunger in their name mostly pump up creatures and have or give Trample. Black cards with Death in their name mostly kill stuff or drain life, sometimes they return stuff from the grave but mostly kill stuff. Which helps to speculate regarding the names what the abilities could be:

White is called Primal Dawn: Flying should be the keyword from what we see in the picture. Dawn is a hard word because there are little cards that use that word. But some of them use Reanimation or protect stuff with lifegain/damage prevention. The picture don’t look like reanimation and protection… more like total destruction. Maybe Lifegain support or getting damage from itself prevented? Maybe both?

Primal Storm: Haste should be given from the picture because it’s rushing in. To me Storm in red also means lightning. Mostly such cards deal damage are instants or hep you or profit from playing spells (mostly instant and sorcery). So it could be something like a Glorybringer or Siege Dragon which deals damage when it attacks or it could cast instant or sorcerys whenever it attacks. Maybe a Tolarian Gearhulk or Snapcaster effect upon attacking? I said snapcast because to me it feels like they won’t let us cast spells for free with each attack.

Last but not least Primal Tide?: It won’t have flying that much we can tell. other keywords used on blue creatures are mostly flash, Hexproof or Islandwalk (but not anymore). Islandwalk would be an Exception if it can turn stuff itself to Islands which would fit to “Tide” but that turn it to a legendary Stormtide Leviathan Dino. Other asumtion coulde be something in the direction of Devastation Tide. And that could be insane on a beefy flash creature o.o. A lot of Tide cards bounce cards or make them not untap during the next turn.

I wonder if such speculations on art and names do any good. But I also tought “damn. That amonkhet nissa artwork looks a lot like a blue green card”

  • Gideon Jura

judging from the primal dawn’s art, i think the primal dinos are supposed to destroy orazca?

    • Arcus Diabolus

That or they just don’t give a damn.

  • Edward

Zacama seems very much like it could be Jund colors to me. It certainly doesn’t seem to fit in White or Blue. They also might change up the colors of some of the other tribe, although maybe only for a couple cards. Kumena seems like he could be in colors outside of UG, maybe Sultai colors.

    • Sean Harp

Im hoping UR it would fit the personality

      • Edward

That seems highly unlikely because that would be overlapping in the Pirate colors. If they are going to mix up colors this set they will most likely make different combinations not already present in the block. Zacama being Jund colors doesn’t overlap with any other combinations. GB seems more likely for Kumena. Maybe RUG if they want to add Red.

  • Dylan Boyd

Guys they aren’t going to print a 5-color dino in Standard (if they do please come back and call me out on this one) it would literally only be there for flavor. The much more likely route is that it’ll be in Jund colors which you can derive from the color of the spoiler. Also, Three Heads/Three Colors?¿ come onnnn. NOW DISCUSS

    • eltratzo

while I agree that without some huge payoff 5 colours doesn’t sound especially playable and the heads = colours thing does sound likely, things like chromanticore were printed. and that was in theros which was monocolour focused (it was sandwitched between blocks with very strong fixing and strong multicolour focus but chromanticore still never made a relevant splash in standard and I’d assume was never intended to)

    • Dr. Burn Crow

Yeah, I’m thinking Zacama is probably WGR, with the three heads symbolic of the threefold sun.

    • Marvin Sürig

I think it won’t be playable unless you cheat it into play using Gishat. With the legendary Elder Dinos a Dubious Chalange Dinos in Abzan could be possible. Black Dino only works from your hand so that won’t be a problem if your opponent has it and it traits with Tyrant. Cheating out Gishat could work well if you bait your opponent with another big Dino. And White Dinos have the Kinjali Birdy Dino who let your opponents creature enter the battlefield tapped which makes it easy to cheat out dinos.
Short: Dubious Challange Legendary Dinos would be possible for a 5-Color dino in standard.
Personally I think the three heads aren’t indicating three colors but the three aspects of the sun which a represented by Naya colors but a godlike creature is mostly five colored because it has acces to every color.
If they Troll us hard it will be an unplayable thing (except you sheet it out) with WWGGRRUB to show it’s more naya than five colored xD

    • Severian Geerts

If only there were other formats other than standard, where you could use 5 color legendary creatures easily….

  • Avery Standley

Somebody alter Zetalpa and add the seagulls from Finding Nemo!

  • Typhuzuzu13

so he erases her mind, wiping all trace of himself.
Well, as far as tragic endings go, at least she’s still PROBABLY going to live.

    • Charlie Stepp

Is there art for this or just speculation?

      • Typhuzuzu13

read the texts spoiled above -_-

unless something interrupts the process, Vraska asks Jace to mindwipe her recent memories of him.

        • cement dorado

what’s the source cuz I’m not seeing it.

          • Typhuzuzu13

read “Induced Amnesia,” near the end -_-

“So he reached into Vraska’s mind and erased all trace of himself from her memories”

          • cement dorado

            wasn’t loading. sorry :D

  • Dylan Boyd

Yoooo, thanks for all the story spoilers, we still won’t know who gets control over the Immortal Sun till after the Geo-caching event is over tho.

    • Madman79

Knowing Wizards’ poor writing, it’s gonna be Jace…. the Poster Boy needs ALL the important stuff to happen to him or else there’s no story to drive forward. I’m willing to bet that somehow Jace convinces Azor to either destroy the Immortal Sun (since Azor created it in the first place AND the fact that Jace is the Living Guildpact someone with more responsibility has to fix Ravnica’s current political turmoil between the guilds, because quite frankly Jace has been gone for far too long and has thrown himself into the fire recklessly a bit too many times) or will fight him for it AND win (somehow….despite the sphinx being a former Old Walker) or the third version might be that somehow Jace escapes through the magic of “plot armor” (aka a contrived and forced excuse to not have him trapped on Ixalan for the rest of his life which imho would be the best thing for the entire Magic storyline and a nice twist to this whole “superhero angle” that WOTC are pushing with the Gatewatch; by having one of them trapped it could finally be time to let other Blue-Walkers shine). Either way, he’ll leave one way or another, be sure of that. Though I’m more curious as to how Azor will handle seeing and knowing that the entire fate of Ravnica rests on the shoulders of a 20-something young mind-mage who went on several suicidal missions on other planes, completely ignoring his duties as the Guildpact.

      • Severian Geerts

Nah, Nicol Bolas ends up with it using the planar bridge

        • Matthew Graham

          Severian, you got the idea…

  • I feel like there is a chance of Zacama being a 5-color Dinosaur, being that Tetsimoc fills the black slot potentially. Either that or this is a very dinosaur heavy set and there are 2 cycles of mono colored elder dinos.

    • Theblue ant

Or Zacama is naya, fitting the tree heads

      • Matthew Graham

        Yes……. Naya Agro FTW!

  • Matt Wasser

I wonder why Azor dose not want knowledge of Ixalan back out into the multiverse. What could he be hiding, I wonder?

    • Kahai

He was clearly hiding Dinosaurs all this time. They are obviously a much greater threat than the Multiverse has ever seen.

      • Guilherme De Oliveira Costa

this sound so silly hahaha btw, its probably true tho

    • Matthew Graham

As the Immortal Suns power goes through the roof and into the black abyss of space, Azor is probably hiding the Immortal Sun from the multiverse because of people such as bolas will abuse its power for greater uses… like himself and his ‘Planar Bridge and Little Blue Friends’ plan to rule the Multiverse – then the Unverse…

  • Joep Hendriks

Very bold prediction time. Zacama, Primal Calamity’s keyword will be…….TRIPLE STRIKE.

    • Matthew Graham

      Lol

  • Marvin Sürig

Okay I remember someone said that the immortal sun looked like the azorius signet. Some people laughed at the person saying that it looked no way like the immortal sun. Well, everyone else who doubt him/her “suck it!” i hope the persons who talked that genius down feel stupid now xD

    • GeneralGenerousGenesis

The sigil on Ixilan’s Binding as well.

  • Josh Kaufman

Will this comic finally explain why the IXI Jace wasn’t the dream of the MTG Universe and was just completely shirtless? I mean WotC’s love affair with the guy you would think that he would pretty much be naked at this point.

And that could lead to Jace’s own standalone skin-a-max rated series geared towards women talking about Jace’s exploits with women across planes. Leading to even weirder fan fiction by the Japanaes… and we all know where that would go…..
    Just put this together:
    Emrakul, Liliana, and Jace.

Thank you Japanese for scaring me away from imagination entirely.

    • Matthew Graham

Damn Shadows did the ‘Emrakul, Liliana, Jace’ threesome

  • TezzeretofCarmot21

Calling it now: Primal Dawn is destruction. Wakening Suns Avatar did it, and its art looks plenty like destruction.

  • Matthew Graham

Back in Ravnica, Azor was mentioned as a planeswalker but I’m pretty sure he (Or her if your a feminist) wasn’t printed as one.
But he was first mentioned in ‘Dissension’ and then again in ‘Return to Ravnica’, it’s been a hell of a long time Azor… It would have been nicer for you to show up a few times in earlier sets instead of “sort of” being shown in a secondary set 5 years after the last time he was mentioned. Yes, the immortal sun is to prevent planeswalkers from planeswalking out of Ixalan but shouldn’t Azor be able to bypass his own creation?
He must be a right out suck planeswalker to only be printed as a legendary creature, being said as a planeswalker YET AGAIN but prick us out by being pretty ok in EDH…

Please WOTC, if he’s a planeswalker… make him a bloody planeswalker

    • Edward

You realize he gave his spark to power The Immortal Sun thus making him no longer making him a planeswalker at this current moment right? He isn’t trapped by his own invention. He no longer has a spark to planeswalk with. There are plenty of Planeswalkers in this block so it obviously shows if he was currently a Planeswalker he would have gotten a Planeswalker card like the rest of them. It literally explains this right under “Gift Of Azor”

  • Boogidy

Sorry, but Azor’s backstory is kind of stupid. I’m all for powerful sphinxes (especially planeswalker) but c’mon nothing original on this plane? Everything HAS to be connected? Did they write themselves into a corner or did they really want fanboys to cream their pants? It’s all too coincidental that Jace arrives on Ixalan, especially if they’re going to explain away how Jace would ever imagine going to Ixalan.

Also, if he created it and sealed it away, how does ol’ Nicol know about it? And are they really trying to say that Azor was Emeria? Or was he the fourth angel sister on Innistrad? Wouldn’t Niv-Mizzet remember Azor if he’s supposed to be really old himself? If they’re saying that Azor is older than Nicol, that would mean that they are centuries or more apart, AND HOW WOULD NICOL KNOW ABOUT THE IS? Especially if he would still think Azor is still a planeswalker?

Why weren’t ‘angelic guardians’ appear anywhere on different planes if he went there? It’s cute what they’re doing, but it’s undoing everything previous and calls into question; is there a PW powerful enough to rival Nicol? Answer: Yes but until WOTC stops making money we’ll never get that card. (sorry, he’ll probably appear in a random set to equal out the PW ratio for that set.) (If you say Ugin, Ugin got his ass kicked, and only prevented his death by being a ghost IN THE FIRST PLACE and messing with Sarkon.)

Nicol’s plan: Convince some other PW to steal one of the most powerful artifacts, right from under another way more powerful PW, and get it back? I know Nicol has plans in plans, but how exactly would he get away with it if Azor found out? Especially if he doesn’t know that Azor lost his spark. OR are you saying that he knew Azor was powerless and taking it would be easy? In that case, Nicol should have just gone himself and saved Vraska the trouble.
