Masters 25 Box Art

Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Azusa, Lost but Seeking

  • Kameenook

    Jace Azusa Karn ?

    • John S Davis

the current debate is toward platinum emperion

      • Kameenook

But why platinum emperion ? It looks very very similar to Karn, especially his creature form.

        • Stuart Whyte

I’m guessing not Karn because he is going to have a new printing in Dominaria the following month.

          • Kameenook

Which would be a perfect time to hype up some of his old printings, even if it’s just the creature form, since we’re most likely getting a new Karn in dominaria.

    • Andrew Hunte

      Soul of New Phyrexia maybe???

  • Daniel Kaine Allen

Oh boy… can’t wait to see if we get ANOTHER goyf reprint…..

    • Kevan Kramer

goyf used to need as much reprints as possible, but Fatal Push was the thing that really pushed its value down.

  • Jonathan

    maybe its frost titan

  • Sam Chi

I think that’s platinum emperion, steel overseer, or Mycosynth golem

    • Necrachilles

Arcbound Ravager, I’m on my way

  • Edward

Well this is a good start for early “spoilers.” Let’s just hope they minimize the bad rares and mythics for this one. I also hope they reprint some of the more expensive Commander staples. Seedborn Muse really needs a reprint.

    • Kahai

calling it now, this will be even more lackluster than iconic masters ;)

      • Edward

Oh god no. That would be a terrible start to the 25th anniversary year of Magic and pretty much ruin all hopes I have for Dominaria. At this point they should have a good idea for how to design these sets so most players like them. Really they just need to spread the value out across all of the rarities. Also they need to stop the whole “let’s print some meh cards at mythic because of draft” thing.

        • Kahai

          You remember Iconic Masters, right?

I honestly wish they wouldn’t print anything at mythic for masters sets. It’s antithetical to the entire purpose of a masters reprint set.

          • Edward

I agree. The mythics usually have the most value but then they just have a few slightly valuable cards($20-50) at rare and maybe 1 or 2 worth $5-10 at uncommon. If you pay $10 per pack you should get guaranteed value out of it. If they want to have cards above rare they could just have a small Masterpiece-esque series in it. Something like 5 super valuable cards that can appear in the land slot with normal Masterpiece rarity. it is a low enough number that it won’t destroy the box prices but still have something cool to look out for. They could even just have some cards that have an alternate art if they are foil like Kaya from Conspiracy 2.

  • Sovereign Citizen D

blight steel colossus is the guess over here.

    • Kahai

      +1

    • Necrachilles

none of the iconic darksteel swirly around it though :<

      • Necrachilles

Reminds me more of Arcbound Ravager

      • Marvin Sürig

        Those swirls are Blink-/Inkmoths.
And arcbound Ravenger always have a big wide opened mouth because it devours artifacts.

        • Necrachilles

good to know about the swirls, I never knew lol :D

    • Marvin Sürig

It’s missing Inkmoths whos swirl arround it and the Blightsteel Coloss has a Phyrexian Symbol on its chest.

  • ConDucktor Whirl Crate God

You know the cards for Jace and Asuza got spoiled right?

  • Marvin Sürig

From what I can see some cards are unlikely as the third booster cover because they nearly never changed the art so extremly that it can’t be recognized as the same person/character/creature or at least the card keep some of their features (unless they are represented in Expeditions which are designed to fit the planes art):
Darksteel Colossus: No Inkmoths, No Phyrexian Sign
Nightsteel Colossus: No Blinkmoth, Has more Cubic shapes than the artwork.
Arcbound Ravager: Already has a Masters artwork. Both Artwork include a Artifact creature with a giant Maw and similar form.
Mycosynth Golem: It has four arms.
Soul of New Phyrexia: Looks more like Elesh Norn and even has the same headform.

Platinum Emperion is the only card I could see the last cover to be because it has the same spikes on its arms and shoulders and the head is rounded up and squashed into the neck. But I’m gladly be proofen wrong by the spoilers.

    • Edward

I am glad this is at Mythic because drafting this would be a nightmare with the 4 black mana symbols unless you are in mono black. It really needs the reprint though and if devotion is a minor subtheme this will be insane.

      • Sean Fleck

        It looks like a rare.

        • Marvin Sürig

it’s a foil which makes it quite hard to tell. But from the color compared to Jace and Azusa it is more likely mythic.

          • Necrachilles

It’s pretty simple guys, for a long time now the rarity is actually coded on the card. See the little ‘M’ next to the set number? That stands for Mythic. Thank me later. :P

          • Marvin Sürig

            Okay then till tomorrow.

          • Marvin Sürig

            Now it’s later. Thank you.

        • Edward

Next to the card numbers at the bottom is a letter M. That means it is a Mythic. It is the easiest way to tell with pictures like this.

  • Neojames82

    Sliver Queen…hey, I can dream, can’t I?

    • Alberto

      I think she’s in the reserved list… :/

      • Neojames82

        Crap…think you are right. : /

  • Josh Kaufman

Iconic Masters, aka Dragons of Tarkir Remastered, was one of the biggest screw up’s in history. I mean it was negative EV to even open a pack. It also wasn’t an enjoyable draft format. I mean how can you have a set called “iconic masters” without Iconic cards like Serra Angel or Shivan Dragon?
So I’m not touching this set till after its release. I might not touch it at all. Unless WotC can prove these money grabs they are throwing up in front of us are actually worth the price tag they put on them, which is usually over $200 a box, around $10-12 a pack, and depending on where you live, 30-50 per draft, I won’t even care its being released. I mean Jace, Azusa, and Obliterator are 3 mythics. So far that is fine. Not great, The mythics are much less important than the rares and uncommons, along with new artwork which usually draws in the EDH/Casual crowd.

    • Friedrich

Azusa is a Rare her card already has been spoiled.

      • Josh Kaufman

Azusa at rare is good, I mean it has needed a reprint for a very long time. Its, idk how much, like $100 a piece? Either way, having it at rare and not bumping it up to Mythic is nice.
But like I said, Iconic Masters was a flop. It was terrible in both game play and value. I mean that cycle of lands should have been in IXI instead of Iconic Masters, but that is a different story.
What are the mythics in this set, another reprint of JTMS, most likely Goyf, Bob, Clique, but will we see Rishidan Port FINALLY?
Either way we are stuck on the whim of the reserved list, and as someone who owns a large Vintage/Legacy collection, I would be more than happy to see Shop reprinted, etc..

        • Kevan Kramer

She was never 100 dollars, maybe her foils were (but I doubt it).

          • Kahai

Correct, she recently bumbed 50 USD in paper but that was just before this spoiler, her prices have already started to go down (around about 45 right now).

Meanwhile her foil has only seen above 100 for a very short time 3 year back, and has stayed under 90 since.

    • scyther36045

I think its important to note that the set symbol watermark is 100% going to attract commander players, even for only decent cards.
