Grimlock, Ferocious King

Grimlock, Ferocious King

Grimlock, Dinobot Leader

Sword of Dungeons & Dragons

  • Dr. Burn Crow

I’m actually upset I can’t use Grimlock as my commander.

    • JD Farrell

It’s only ever a casual format, so if your playgroup agrees you absolutely can. It’d be super fun to combine dinosaurs and vehicles – and my friend and I just wondered if “transformers” might include any creatures that can transform, in which case werewolves finally got a good commander :P

The main thing that’ll stop you playing it is just getting hold of one XD

      • Animar, Elemental Master

I will unforntunately have to say that normal transforming cards don’t count since the little r symbol is there suggesting branding.

        • Kevan Kramer

          actually they do count

      • Kevan Kramer

        MaRo confirmed that they counted

  • llamalord44

Nerf War art is so great

  • BusinessmanGinger

I wonder what the fourth one is, hopefully it will be revealed soon or explained why it isn’t included here.

Edit: Nevermind, forgot about the dragon token x3.

  • armageddon876

Too bad only sword of d&d will be in Unstable… I was lookin forward to seeing a bunch of people bring nerf guns and transformers to the prerelease just in case :p

  • Animar, Elemental Master

But to get the best effect of nerf war you need the huge motorized ones that have like 100 dart clips

  • Fin

Would love to see a Masterpiece version of the Sword of D&D

  • Emtu

    aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    NEW UN-SET

I haven’t been into Magic for several years but I am excited as hell for this.

    • herndon mendenall

these are promos for hascon and not in the new unset. there are people saying the sword is in unstable, but i hope they are wrong. i also havent seen a source that confirms it

      • JD Farrell

Multiple sources have confirmed it. Maro has said as much on his tumblr, for instance. Don’t know why you wouldn’t want it in the set though, it’s a cool card and a perfect fit.

        • herndon mendenall

not that i dont want it in the set, i dont this cool promo to be in the set, unless its different art, its just a slap to people who work to get these promos and boom anyone who buys a pack can have the same thing you have.also i said i didnt want to believe it and that i hadnt seen it confirmed, im aware maro said it but i chose to ignore it.

          • JD Farrell

If you know Maro said it then you have indeed seen a source confirm it. The fact that you choose to pretend the lead designer didn’t say as much doesn’t change reality.

      • Reyos Blackwood

MARO confirmed, it doesn’t get much more official than that.

  • Magus of the nooB

Am i the only one really liking the non-artifact multicolored layout? Wowieeeee

    • Kahai

      looks like a nerf gun!

  • Eduardo Isaac Ruiz Zapata

Still one card left… 04/04, It is possible… ?? … Well i think we have to wait to september

    • herndon mendenall

      its the dragon token

  • CMK

Did I just die and go to heaven? ..and then died in heaven and went to heaven heaven?

  • Kevan Kramer

From Maro Tumblr:”By giving “Transformers” +2/+0, does Grimlock give all creatures with Transform +2/+0?? (Pretty Please :-P)
“Transformer” is defined as either a character from
the Transformer universe that is a Transformer or a creature that
transforms meaning any double-faced cards that uses the “transform”
    keyword action.”

This mean Grimlock is the best werewolf commander, and much better than the legendary werewolf.

  • Daniel Kaine Allen

So i wonder how many hundreds I’m gonna have to shell out to get my hands on grimlock and nerf war after hascon…

  • Nicholas Medüsa

Grimlock doesn’t use proper card language, and I am not sure how I feel about that. “Becomes” versus “Transform Grimlock, Dinobot Leader”. I feel it kind of silly to not use the “transform” keyword for a Transformer branded card. -shrug-

    • Gildan Bladeborn

It being a Transformers branded card is exactly why it DOESN’T use the “transform” keyword. If Hasbro started using the word “transform” to describe what a Transformers toy does, they put that trademark at risk because the name is then just a literal description of the action (which is not trademarked). It’s why the instructions you get with Transformers tell you how to “convert” them between modes, and not how to transform them (and why the activation cost on this card says that).

  • Giby86 .

They really did a Transformer card where a creature does NOT transform into a vehicle? Come on, WotC, you had one job.

    • TheAverageGuyTAG

      Ixalan synergy, yo.

      • Giby86 .

Doesn’t matter. Nothing matters in front of this MASSIVE COLOSSAL UNFORGIVABLE flavor fail. A few years ago it wouldn’t have been a problem but they JUST introduced VEHICLES, they have the technology and they didn’t use it. It’s unfathomable, especially considering how spot-on the Sword of D&D is.

        • TJ

Helloooooooo, that’s the reason they did a DinoBot. Now, they may make a few for unstable, but we’ll have to wait and see

          • Giby86 .

The reason why they did a DinoBot was…what, exactly?

          • TJ

Because occasionally Wizards knows when they push on over doing it

          • Giby86 .

This is the first time they’ve ever done anything like this. It took 25 years to realize “hey! Magic the Gathering settings in D&D!”! They’re not pushing anything. They’re way, way too timid about this stuff.

        • TheAverageGuyTAG

A missed opportunity isn’t the same thing as a flavor fail persay IMO.

          • Giby86 .

Point taken. Still, they had one shot at this and in my opinion they blew it.

    • it’s grimlock maaaan. grimlock turns into a t-rex. though i dont expect anyone to know old school transformers.

      • Giby86 .

Sigh. Of course I know who Grimlock is. What I’m saying is, why on Earth would you go for Grimlock and not Optimus Prime, since you just introduced the PERFECT card type for it, AND he’s more popular and recognizable?

        • Mae Evans

because transformers toys are owned by hasbro and they probably released a grimlock toy, with the recent transformers movie. welcome to capitalism.

          • Giby86 .

It’s not like an Optimus Prime card wouldn’t have been a blatant corporate ploy to sell more toys. But I guess you’re right.

          • Shagoth

I think there are multiple reasons.
            1. Everyone loves Dinos
            2. It would be potentially confusing to transform into a vehicle that you need to crew
            3. Everyone loves Dinos
            4. Vehicles already feel like transformers by turning a 1/1 into smugglers copter
            5. Everyone loves Dinos
            6. Why would you transform between them? Mechanically, the transformer side would be better. Albeit, these aren’t supposed to be functional, the Nerf War basically kills someone, but you know.
            7. Everyone loves Dinos
            8. When Ixalan comes out, I can use this as a fake commander for the most anti synergistic deck ever: Cars and Dinos.
            soniD sevol enoyreve .9

        • rodimus

Dinosaurs are a big part of the next block of magic cards

          • Giby86 .

No, really?? Oh gosh, I didn’t know that! It all makes sense now! No, wait, I did know that. It still doesn’t change my point. You cannot make ONE Transformer card and not go for the most iconic Transformer of all, which just happens to transform into a VEHICLE, of which you have JUST invented the card type. It’s criminal, and no amount of corporate-sponsored rationalization is going to make up for that. WotC had ONE shot at this and they blew it.

  • Hagane Oboro (Pablio)

Muito legal essa nova coleção, é realmente fantástico e traz nostalgia…

  • kekek

Product placement taco bell. I know everyone loves nostalgia and all but this is a clear marketing tactic to get players to buy sub par products. It even requires other products sold by the same company to work. Dont play into the marketing scam.

  • Bob

Forget the silly dino bot, nerf war is soo awesome. I really hope they make a monopoly guy planeswalker –
+2. Pass your turn, gain 200 energy. Play only during your upkeep.
    0. Spend 100energy to gain control of a permanent in play
-10. Spend 500 energy to jail opponents deck and hand, that opponemt may have you gain control of all their pennants in play to negate this effect

  • Shagoth

    How was hascon?

    • Bentuzzi

      hasnt happened yet… next weekend

      • Shagoth

        Oh…

  • Bradley James Mason

Has no one here played unglued? This set brings back so many memories… I love this!

  • TheAweDude

    >play Unstable draft
    >open Grimlock
Well damn, I don’t have any Transformers ™ toys on me! Guess it’s only a 4/4 Dino, Transformer, Vehicle lord.
    >play Unstable draft
    >open Nerf War
Well damn, I don’t have any nerf guns on me! Guess it’s just a 4 mana spell that increases storm count by 1.

    • Bentuzzi

It has been confirmed that neither Grimlock nor Nerf wars will be in unstable. Only Sword of D&D

  • Kaldra21

ok might be a Dum question but where do you get those form

    • Bentuzzi

      Hascon. Rhode Island Sept 9-10

  • Kameenook

Pretty sure people will get shrekt by nerf war
