• KrakenHunter

decent, but I think it should be rare.
Can a zombie still be an angel? I mean..

It’s good with failure to comply I guess?…

    • Pier-Luc Tremblay

There are Cat-Snakes and Cat-Monkeys, at this point I don’t care.

      • KrakenHunter

        Are you from S-L-S-J?

        • Pier-Luc Tremblay

          What is s-l-s-j?

          • KrakenHunter

            From Qc?

          • Pier-Luc Tremblay

            Yes, I’m from Quebec.

  • Jordan

Gross. White is continuing to get some crazy power.

  • mtgadavsv

    for standard not bad.

  • Teddy Gillespie

Nice, 5 mana creature that says “this card is irrelevant due to heart of kiran.” Sounds like a good investment

    • Adam Gillies

Well I mean you can just exile heart of Kiran

    • MTG fan

This hits ANY non land permanent. This can get rid of heart of kiran.

  • Aurore

Just want to say, first real male Angel.

    • Kahai

      Gabriel Angelfire

      Malach of the Dawn

      • eltratzo

that might be what they mean with “real” though. gabriel is from old and wierd times that basically have nothing to do with current continuity. and malach is a chaoshifted ghost ship.

this one is a modern male angel that wasn’t crated by timespiral wierdnass. and that is indeed a first.

        • Kahai

By that logic, Serra Sphinx isn’t a real sphinx because it’s a planeshifted Serra Angel…

It is certainly the first Magic 2015 border male angel.

          • Aurore

Eltratzo was right. I meant that this is the first male angel since the common establishment “MtG Angels are female.”
Hopefully this means female demons in the future.

          • Alex Churchill

Not quite. Malach of the Dawn was from Planar Chaos, Magic’s alternate-reality “what if” set. It was demonstrating the alternate reality where MtG angels were always male rather than the already-long-established-even-at-that-point convetion that they’re always female.
Gabriel Angelfire, yes, predates that convention, and also doesn’t actually have printed type Angel.

  • Kahai

    Third Male Angel.

    • Kahai

Also he’s going to make a decent foil, love the coloring on his wings.

    • Jacob Kodicovic

I love how this comment has three upvotes (note: You’re welcome, I just got you 10 more upvotes from people who hate symmetry).

  • Jude

Banish priest angel o/ helpful in a lot of formats. Sad it cost a bit much but it is reusable. Also, i just think this is plain funny: second harvest is still in standard. Embalm creatures make tokens. Hi there multicopies of this angel. It again wont be competitive but its still a fun idea

  • Kaiser

    Zombie angel? SOOO EPIC

    • Kaiser

Where is Dr crow when is needed? this is the type of card that he would put in some crazy deck XD

      • Happy The Cat

I mean, there isn’t much to work with here, it’s a tiny Angel of Serenity that uses the keyword from the set.

        • Kaiser

yeah but, a zombie angel afterall

      • Dr. Burn Crow

Esper zombies is my next big dream. Running Ertai the Corrupted as my Commander.

        • James Allen

Ertai Zombie Wizard Tribal is pure disgusting. Zombie Tokens to sac while Wizards draw you cards to help counter spells.

          • Dr. Burn Crow

You’re disgusting. Looks like I have a deck to build.

  • Joseph Levasseur

Question: What is an ”Zombie Angel”???

    • Kaiser

The best creature you will ever know

  • God Enel

Male angels are so damn ugly.

    • Jorge Arreola

I think they’re kinda hot. You must be straight. Perspective.

    • Melissa Juice

      Ugly? This is gorgeous.

    • Jacob Kodicovic

Cool. Except in the Bible, which they are based on, all angels are male. In fact, there is no mention of female angels anywhere in it at all.

      • God Enel

        Still ugly.

  • Ryan Sullivan

How many amazing edh cards are they going to make? This in a populate deck is ridiculous.

    • Zombie

My Trostani deck just started oozing something that looks like drool

      • Shagoth

Actually I think it’s baby token clones.

  • Winter Trabex

This guy might end up replacing the white gearhulk in my standard deck. Being able to do this effect twice is pretty powerful.

  • Tony Delfino

Why…. why an angel? Angels have no place in ancient egyptian mythology. Can we PLEASE branch out from the required mythic rare angel, demon, and dragon in literally every set?

    • Kaiser

Cause slave Angels are very Nicol Bolas and this set is about him too so Dragons, Demons and Angels still work here.

      • Jacob Kodicovic

Yup, if you need more proof look at the art for Slave of Bolas.

        • Tony Delfino

Slave of Bolas is a card from Alara Reborn. Alara is a plane with a massive host of angels from the shard of Bant. So, that proves nothing. Also it’s not based on the same lore.

          • Sylvio Tenenbra

Ssssh, I love getting more dragons with each set.
Better just get used to this trend of these mythical beings being present in every set, because they help boost the sales and please collectors like me.

          • Tony Delfino

Yeah. It’s exactly that kind of fan service that’s killing creativity. Now to me it’s become stale and predictable. That’s all.

For example, I’d have loved to see some sort of gremlin broodmother on Kaladesh. That kind of design would have been more in flavor with the set than Skyship Stalker or Freejam Regent, and would have the opportunity to open up more gameplay ideas rather than just “more dragons”

I mean it hasn’t been that long since we had a set entirely full of dragons. They don’t need to include more on literally every plane.

          • Jacob Kodicovic

I do agree with the gremlin broodmother idea, but I also enjoy dragons. I feel that if Wizards can keep the look and flavor unique, I don’t have a problem. That said, I don’t want interesting designs being booted out for another iconic creature.

          • MTG fan

Why not a gremlin dragon? It solves both your problems! :)

          • Jacob Kodicovic

Thank you for that useless guide to Magic lore. What I’m trying to say is that bending divine beings to his will is very Bolas.

    • Winter Trabex

It’s not Egypt. It’s a world influenced by a planeswalker who was once an Elder Dragon.

      • Tony Delfino

        Based on Ancient Egypt.

They shoehorn angels, demons, and dragons onto almost every plane regardless of lore appropriateness. I’m merely asking for a bit more design creativity. I’m tired that every set a mythic slot for those three colors is always these creature types.

        • Melissa Juice

MtG sets based on real-world mythology always adapt that mythology to the MtG multiverse.

        • JLawsl

There actually were angels or forms of them in ancient Egyptian religion/mythology. Not to mention, Egypt and the surrounding area are kind of the birthplaces of most of the religions that believe in angels anyway. So, of any set or block of Magic, flavor wise, this one should have the most angels if you are thinking about it in a lore sense. Also, demons and dragons.

    • Octopus

Well, angels as such the Egyptian mythology does not have, but in some murals you can see winged beings that can be comparable.

I apologize in advance for my bad English, it is not my native language, but I hope it is understandable

  • Insight66

He issues strongly worded letters of condemnation in his spare time.

  • What!

Shouldn’t this have an extra keyword or two to be mythic?

  • thoptertoken

How many male angel MTG cards can you name off the top of your head? My answer: one. How many people know others?

    • Robert Bellamy Eriksen

That regenerator angel from white. Dunno its name.

      Edit: Malach of the Dawn

      • Alex Churchill

That is indeed the only one (not counting Gabriel Angelfire). Malach of the Dawn was from Planar Chaos, which was an alternate-reality set where they explored all sorts of “what if” questions; in this case, what if MtG angels had been always-male rather than always-female.

  • Melissa Juice

    Min Yum is amazing.

  • the mad seer

what i want to know is how the token can fly with its wings bound

    • Chaospyke

      Its called falling with grace

Physical Angels cannot fly… the Wings are only for Gliding Skills… Angels fly throught their Magic – not by the wings

  • kmk888

This card seems very good for Standard to me. It requires removal but is immune to Fatal Push and can embalm in case the opponent only has 1 suitable answer.

  • John Cummings

Just doesn’t feel mythic to me, even if it can hit walkers. Really needed flash, or maybe to be 1cmc cheaper to really pop out.

    • Chaospyke

My thoughts exactly. Embalm cost is fine, but o-ring on a body that weak with only one keyword for that cost isn’t quite mythic.

    • Shaun Mati

lol the card advantage this gives you is nuts. It dodges a good amount of removal as well. This is definitely mythic worthy absolutely. think of it like this, you cast it turn 4 or 5…depending on if youre playing servant of conduit, but anyway you play this and take away something of their’s right? maybe a gideon or sahili or marvel or heart of kiran….so its a 1 for 1…then they waste a remvoal spell on your angel…still a 1 for 1 cuz they get a card back…now embalm it…now its a 1 for 0 since your guy is just a token of the angel…then they have to remove it again…now its a 2 for 0…cause well…its just a token. the card advantage you get is solid if not incredibly good. thats how you have to think about cards…is what card advantage it gives you. In my opinion, this card is gonna be incredibly good.

  • Jacob Kodicovic

Cool. And this disproves my point because…?
