• Kirito and Asuna SAO

This is similar to Aether Vial, I think it will be fun in Commander

    • Anthony Miller

unlike vial, you can’t choose not to add the counter.

      • Shark

It’s X or less tho so no problem there

      • Mike Madsen Sørensen

Unlike Vial though, you don’t need an exact cost either.

    • MTG420

      I said that too.

    • MTG420

Once each turn includes opponent’s turns. AMAZING

  • Ultramegalord

This is actually kinda bonkers I was expecting instants and sorcerys only

  • Kirito and Asuna SAO

As if Atraxa wasn’t good enough already

  • Matt Taylor

This thing is crazy, Brain in a Jar for free without the restriction of tapping and being restricted to instants or sorceries, jeebus once EACH turn, time to load my sideboards with anti-enchantment spells.

  • Blahblahblahbla

Each turn.. not just your own.. the controls…. the EDH’s…… the baby omniscience is real.. it’s.. Palmniscience…

  • Blahblahblahbla

    Paradox Haze…. oh god… it’s so jank… it’s so good….

  • Kahai

Sexy! It’s sort of like a blue hibernation’s end for spells in hand!! :D

  • Edward

This is absolutely insane. This card is going to be a commander staple forever if it isn’t outright banned not to mention standard and modern. I expect a pre-order price of around $20 for this because this is just insane as well as cheap.

    • Daniel Behan

      Kinda overselling it there dude

      • Edward

Well for commander I am not but I am probably am for Standard and Modern. I guarantee people in Standard will try to use it but I am not sure about Modern. I just love the fact we finally get a cheap and powerful blue mythic. Normally they are all super expensive or just kind of bad

        • Daniel Behan

If you can keep it around long enough to get good value then yeah but it’ll be awhile and generally people in commander games don’t let super powerful enchantments stick around atleast long enough for you to get value from it

          • Edward

The card is in blue though which allows for counterspells and the card itself can be used to counter spells for free once a turn with its ability. Even if it gets destroyed after a few turns it will still have given you plenty of value by then.

          • Daniel Behan

Guaranteed it dies the turn after you cast it unless you’re playing 1v1

          • Edward

Good thing I mostly play 1v1. Even when I don’t no one in my play group plays much enchantment hate.

          • Daniel Behan

It will be a good card in 1v1 multiplayer it will be next to impossible to pull off unless you set up a hard lock but I played in a largely competitive group so results will vary.

          • Edward

My group is the opposite so it will work prefect for me. The main problem I will have to deal with is Atraxa but since I run Vial Smasher and Thrasios control I can usually deal with any major htreats. Even if it gets destroyed I have Seasons Past to get it back and no one runs exile enchantment removal in my group so I will be fine with it in the grave

          • Daniel Behan

I don’t see this becoming a staple in commander honestly maybe a 5 dollar card but not 20 dollar staple. Doesn’t win the game itself needs a lot of protection and imo generally a bit slow.

          • Edward

It definitely won’t be $20 unless it manages to get picked up in other formats. I do think it will start off around $15- $20 pre-order price just because of the potential it has. Oh and also this card will probably be in any blue control deck in commander simply because it can cast control spells for free after a couple of turns. Rashmi and Yidris will love it as well as pretty much any spell based deck.

          • Daniel Behan

I have to disagree. It might hit some commander lists but it isn’t going to slot into every blue control deck it takes too much effort to keep alive and takes for ever to get value off. You have to wait entire turn cycle before you can even cast a 1 mana spell. To me that’s too slow for not much pay off.

          • Edward

That is where it gets complicated. If it is powerful enough it will get killed right away but if it won’t be a threat for a little while they might save their resources until it becomes a threat. Also the fact that it is 3 mana means it can come out fairly early so destroying it early might mean that they can’t deal with a more immediate threat later. By that point they might not be able to deal with it if you are playing a control deck. Also if they decide to leave it until later you can cast something like Brainstorm or Mystical Tutor during your upkeep for free before you draw. It turns in to a decision of killing it now before it can do anything or waiting until later when you might not be able to stop it. Even if it just is destroyed it still takes away 1 piece of removal they have for something with no immediate danger.

  • Daedalus

Also known as “Counterspells cost zero now”.

  • Krhaynes1

x OR less! HOLY F¥£K! Just take my money now wizards.

  • Kameenook

Can’t I Ancestral Vision this ? Or because it has actually no mana cost (CMC zero, but no real mana cost) can I not ?

    • Happy The Cat

AV cant be cast from your hand so no.

      • Bonogringo

Actualy that’s a wrong answer. You can cast av with eye in the jar trick while destroying it before he gets a counter so you can play a no cost spell for free…
There you can pay 0 instead of the cost but av has no cost so you can’t replace it.

      • Kameenook

Yes it can, and also I am hearing that judges are saying that it works like this.

        • Happy The Cat

yeah, I got the ruling already, due to how it’s a replacement effect it does give cards without mana costs mana costs.

  • Blahblahblahbla

It uses time counters too! So Dust of Moments, Jhoira’s Timebug, Timebender, Timecrafting all work with it! Jank dreams do come true!

  • Daniel Kaine Allen

This may literally be one of the saving grace type of cards for this set

  • Happy The Cat

yeah, I could probably use this, might be good in some deck somewhere.

    • Blahblahblahbla

How about that extra turns deck in modern? :D

      • Happy The Cat

well, first I was going to work it into my Mizzix edh since that already runs Inexorable Tide and stuff like Wild Evocation with a ton of draw spells, but turns modern might be on the docket.

  • Edward

I am going to get this for my Vial Smasher and Thrasios EDH deck because this card is just too good not to in that deck. I can just cast the largest spell in my hand and still have all of my mana

  • tct93

I guess this is the reason why they changed the rule about split cards.

    • RagingBuddha

GDD, Brain in a Jar, and the Expertise cycle were all awkward too

  • Shagoth

Brain/Expertise/Fuse in modern got some new tools! I like that deck, maybe it will become Tier, and hopefully it will break modern and make me not look dumb about overhyping the Expertises.
    Probs not. :(

    • Edward

Actually split cards now have the total cmc of both halves will not of the stack. That was announced a couple of days ago which was probably in preparation for this

      • Shagoth

        I’m sad now.
Makes sense given there are split cards in standard, or 90 degree angle cards?

        • Edward

Actually now that I think about it they probably did it because of Modern. The Aftermath mechanic prevents degenerate split card shenanigans in Standard because the Aftermath half needs to be cast from the graveyard

      • Kahai

I hate this change… Just reading the article, it isn’t a nice change. They should have just left it alone. Split cards were fine, there were limited ways or cheating them. Fuse already had specific rules that could have been modified, and aftermath cards have their own set of rules. Thanks WotC for breaking my Isochron+Research//Development+Battle of Wits combo win deck…

  • Dr. Burn Crow

I JUST GOT MY IZZET EDH JUST HOW I WANTED IT, NOW I GET THIS?!?!

    • Ryū

Going straight into my U/G Ezuri commander deck.

      • Ryan Cameron

        And going into my Atraxa.

        • Matthew Douglas

          Going into everyone’s Atraxa.

        • Ryū

          So much Phyrexian goodstuff.

  • Efr1t

I noticed that the spell your allowed to cast each turn doesn’t say “from your hand”. Does this mean I could cast my commander (from the com. zone) with this 1/turn free spell?

    • TogetherAlone

yes you can. Normal timing rules apply however.

      • Efr1t

Nice. This would also bypass that extra 2 mana per consecutive casting from the com. zone, right?

        • Edward

No you still have to pay commander tax.

          • Efr1t

Ah I see. Thanks for clearing that up for me

  • Daniel Behan

Would be better if the counter trigger was a may

    • RagingBuddha

      “X or less”

      • Daniel Behan

I did not see the or less clause

    • DJPad

Why? The card is better the more counters are on it…

  • Julna Buras

I want this and I need this.

  • Julna Buras

When it says “once per turn”, does that mean it’s once each of your turns AND opponents’?

    • Scud422

      Yes. Yes it does.

  • Matthew Douglas

Nope, don’t see any way this will be abused at all.

    Can’t wait to get mine.

  • MrAptronym

I adore everything about this card. Name, art, gameplay, all solid.

Anything that lets blue tap out and still threaten a counterspell is worth a look.

  • David Muñoz Lopez

restore balance wants this. turn 3 restore balance, turn 4 gargadon. so cool

    • Ultramegalord

Not only that. All the other no mana cost suspend cards as well,

      • David Muñoz Lopez

a new restore balance deck, with ancestral visions and more suspend cards?

        • Ultramegalord

          Dunno seems fun though

    • Everett LeViness

That’s not how it works, look at how it’s formatted again. You must be able to start casting the spell from your hand then decide to pay 0 for it. You can’t cast those cards from your hand, so you can’t cast them with this. IT would be formatted like the expertise cards if it worked this way.

      • Nanya

It doesn’t say from the hand.

      • David Muñoz Lopez

it doesn’t say “from your hand”. on EDH, you can cast your commander.
it says “pay 0 rather than pay it’s mana cost”, and ancestral vision’s mana cost is 0.

  • Happy The Cat

hope this gets a slot in Invocations 2. Aand hopefully they make invocations 2 full art instead of what they did for this set

    • Kahai

The cards are likely all already printed or going to the printers soon.

      • Happy The Cat

well, by Invocations 2 I mean the Invocations that come out in Hour of Devastation(the next set)

        • Kahai

Yeah, we’re less than 6 months from release. The cards are either very hot from the presses or moving to the printer soon.

          #RememberMentalMisstep

  • Winter Trabex

    So, proliferate?

  • kk

books… being able to use it on both turns…

How does it work with fused cards??!

    • De’Elgathor

Not like it would have before, thanks to the rule change.

      • Kahai

        Which rule change?

Or are you talking about fuse rules in general?

        • Jay Kilian

Fused cards’ CMC is now combined, not individual. No more Brain In The Jar Beck//Call fused.

          • Kahai

            See above.

          • What!

            Yesterday, I think.

          • Kahai

Read the article. Hate the change.

  • kk

    *bonkers

  • Aurore

    “Casually plays Timecrafting”

  • Aurore

Yeah, no way “your whole hand is force of will” won’t be broken.

  • Kahai

My original statement about this card: It’s anything blue hibernation’s end you don’t have to pay mana for on each turn mini omniscience!

A responsibly understandable rephrasing: This is like a blue hibernation’s end, that is not restricted to creatures, triggers on each turn with no upkeep cost and can be used during any phase. AKA mini-omniscience.

  • Zombie

Really only starts paying off in terms of mana cost and time cost after this nets you a 3 drop play.

Getting a free 1 mana spell and 2 mana spell makes it break even, which means you have a long ways to go before this makes the mana investment and time invested in the card worth it.

It’s also somewhat hard to answer, meaning it’s like to stick for that payoff.

I’d rate it “not terrible”. Slow but definitely playable.

This would be perfect for a Control deck, too bad Wizards is hellbent on killing control decks in Standard with ridiculously pushed aggressive creatures and anti-control tech for control decks that don’t even exist, further denying traditional control players access to Standard.

Can’t imagine this not seeing Standard play in some fashion, it seems like a prime example of a fringe build-around card. Simply too slow to matter in Eternal formats, however. I don’t even think EDH decks want this, similar cards already provide this effect on-demand or more efficiently.

    • Nanya

Nah, it can work in EDH pretty well.

      • Minizem

Yeah, green blue guys will have fun with it i’m sure.

        • Nanya

Atraxa and Inexorable Tide both work well with this card.

    • Julna Buras

I’ve been managing to win decent amounts of games with my Esper control deck since Eldritch Moon, so I’ll definitely try to put this card in. Hopefully the deck won’t be instakilled by things like Prowling Serpopard, but we’ll have to see.

    • Kahai

EDH decks want this. Or at least there are commander players who like this card. I certainly do.

    • NC

Atraxa can probably beef it up fast enough to… something. Keep casting her easily, if nothing else.

      • Zombie

Not really, though. Commander costs increase by two at a time, this only ups by one every turn. Not really that easy unless you, once again, want to wait a while.

Meaning if you’re playing against something like Breya (who is a natural hard-counter to Atraxa anyway), she’s still just going to immediately die as soon as you play her anyway.

Main point I’m trying to get across is that this is very slow, and that’s going to be the major determining factor in regards to its playability in constructed.

But EDH decks don’t really need it anyway.

        • Cthulhooo

Really? You don’t want to cast spells for free each turn including your opponents’ turns?

          • Zombie

But you can already do that

          • Cthulhooo

Which card are you refering to?

  • Nanya

Just so I’m clear, this works with more than just X spells, right?

    • Happy The Cat

well, it doesn’t work with x spells since you are casting them for 0, making x be 0. but it does work with almost everything that has a mana cost.

  • Nanya

…Oh, Doubling Season has a new toy, doesn’t it?

  • Kumrag

No way this is real lmao

  • Dewill

anyone else see Bolas coming thru the clouds?? the dark portions of the clouds make up his face and his horns border the sun

  • Nanya

    OH JESUS!!!

EDH Commanders coming out for just the extra cost, or none at all, quick, I need rules on this with extra costs, after it hits the base number for the Commander’s CMC.

    …ICKY!

    • Happy The Cat

well, that is an additional cost, it does not change the converted mana cost of the card. meaning once this hits your commander, it will always be able to cast it.

      • Nanya

If it works like Omniscience, then you’d have to pay the extra costs.

But still, tap a Sol Ring to recast your commander sounds fun!

  • Tezzybros

    ummm…

    look at time spiral cards…

    some take time (literally)
    some remove time…

    • Tezzybros

      let me help me understanding:
      rift elemental
      shivan sand mage
      timecrafting
      J.’s timebug

      why all these? because.
you get to summon fatties for few mana

      • Happy The Cat

or you could play Inexorable Tide with normal spells to keep adding counters to it every time you cast a spell, which hopefully you are doing every turn.

        • Thomas Luffman

Or you could just cast clockspinning with this.

        • Tezzybros

though tide doesn’t remove counters. what if you only draw 6 costs, and you went over. you need to get down to summon them too.

          • Happy The Cat

“once each turn, you may pay 0 rather than pay the mana cost for a spell you cast with converted mana cost X or less, where X is the number of Time counter on As Foretold.”

          • Tezzybros

Oh, sorry mate, didn’t read that part.
But time manipulation is cool though, because profileration gives a limited amount per turn. Timebug is only 2 mana for equivancy of two turns needed to pass by.
Rushing to blighty C. Was an idea I had, and I know that there are better ways to summon the big boy, but it’s just a way to expand the thinking horizon of our mind. I hope that you’d understand of trying new ways rather then the first and simple ideas. It’s like given a product of Cheerios and you must make a new product rather then selling it. Fist thought is Cheerios necklaces. I would revert the product by pulverizing the Cheerios and add a bit of sugar to make cake mix. Maybe both of our ideas are sound.

Maybe E. Tides + paradox haze to increase the production levels of both tide and time increase to summon them big fatties at early turns.

  • Gaius_Ultima

As its confirmed, you can cast Ancestral visions with this, i really think this will see play in some modern control.

    • Kahai

You are correct: 10/15/2006 This has no mana cost, which means it can’t normally be cast as a spell. You could, however, cast it via some alternate means, like with Fist of Suns or Mind’s Desire.

    • People said the same thing about the Expertise spells in Aether Revolt. Still hasn’t happened.

      • Cthulhooo

Because people were busy breaking expertise spells with split cards. Now that has changed guess what is next on the menu.

  • Kahai

A Nix reprint would be amazing. :3

Just because i want a new art for it and because it would counter anything from this.

    • Jacob Kodicovic

Well, for a reprint Wizards will have to go in pretty deep. I’m talking like a Journey into Nix. ( :

      • Kahai

You’re funny. Still think it would be a nice fit.

  • Bacon

It sucks, unlike Aether vial. The fact that you have to put a counter on it already negates 90% of the value. Offers nothing for tempo unless you have the perfect sweep of cmc 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… in your hand.

    • Urdothor

Doesn’t matter if you have to put the time counter on it. “X or less time counters” Read the card before complaining

    • Matt Taylor

The turn after its played is meh, but turn 5 onward you get crazy value. Free anticipate your turn 5, free negate/essence scatter on theirs, turn 6 onward free counters, turn 8 you get a free jace, 9 a free torrential, or it lets you safely cast your big bombs earlier because you have this to pay for your counter/removal spells.
Not sure where you’re coming from saying it sucks, did you miss where it said X or less?

    • Kumrag

Who needs a perfect sweep? This doesn’t replace your lands lol. It doesn’t reset you to 1 mana by T4

    • Picklechu

YYOOOUUU SIILLLYYY GOOOSSSEEE READ THE CARD AGAIN!!!!! IT says X or LLEESSSSS NOT JUST X PLEASE READ THE CARD CORRECTLY BEFORE YOU HATE ON IT

    • BusinessmanGinger

      Good job reading the card

    • Deadly Berry

It’s once per turn boy, which also allows you to cast for free on your opponent’s turn. Also, the effect says X or less, that disarms your “sucks” argument. Read the cards right, if you don’t understand something just ask us.

  • Teddy Gillespie

this is busted af because it’s on each player’s turn, it can cast things without mana costs and you can pay x or less. This is the type of card that makes buying a box fun, finally something to chase (along with gideon)

  • shteve

This seem a bit over powered but I would love to cast a cruel ultimatum with it.

  • chad

This card is wicked strong!!! I think you guys are not understanding it correctly or can’t see how it truly will play out in game. So O.P.!!

  • Stinker289

I like how it doesn’t specify on your turn.

    • MithosFall

Yeah, works really well with instants and flashers.

      • Ben Peterson

Best friends with Vedalken Orrery and Leyline of Anticipation.

  • demorshiffer

Um it might be more expensive/slower aether vial, but it can cast things from any zone. Or in flashback’s case it will allow you to play things for their original cost. To add to that it can be used on every persons turn instead of aether vial’s one use.

    • Happy The Cat

not only that but it works with non-creature spells which, lets be honest, are much more exploitable. hard control, big enchantments, heck, any deck that likes to draw cards gets value from this.

    • Evil Tactics

An interesting difference, but sometimes matters, is the fact that you do cast it with As Foretold, good for cast triggers and spells that care about being cast, unlike the vial that only puts the permanent onto battlefield. However it also means the spells can be countered.

  • Antonio Perez

Everflowering chalice the turn you play it kicked a million times resolves for 0 mana you have a million mana chalice into emrakul or something else that is dumb.

    • MithosFall

Multikicker is an additional cost, not part of the mana cost. This card would do nothing to Everflowing Chalice.

      • chad

correct, the alternate cost cannot be paid when using as foretold..so chalice would enter with zero counters. most dont know the rules when it comes to alternate cost G.J.

    • chad

so if you wanted to add counters to chalice when casting it with As Foretold, you would have to pay the kicker cost to add counters.

  • Antonio Perez

Here we go. Island + 2 simian spirit guides into this into chalice into emrakul t1. Yeah not broken at all. While that is living the dream. Turn 3 this into turn 5 lightning axe discard avacyn judgement infinite madness cost for free if you looking at a standard build of it.

    • Yuan Ramirez

If infinite equals 0 for you, sure. Look at the rulings for other cards that let you cast stuff for free (like aetherworks marvel for example). “If the card has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.”. And as already stated, kicker, multikicker and similiar effects are additional costs, so you’d still have to pay for that.

      • Ziembski

Not so sure. First of all, you doesnt cast it for free. You cast it for 0. Also, when you declare values for X, card is already on stack with Mana Cost including value of X and you use As Foretold as alternative payment. It will work with X as long as this mana cost including X is equal or less than number of counters.

        Example.:
        – cast Banefire,
        – declare X = 3,
        – determine total cost 4,
        – use alternative payment from As Foretold as long as there are at least 4 counters.

This how it should go according to casting rules.

This card wording aint simple as “cast without paying its mana cost”.

Still waiting for some judge answer about X vaules and As Foretold.

        • Yuan Ramirez

Oh, you are correct. I actually overlooked the word “spell” in As Foretold.
You declare your value for X, which then changes the CMC of the SPELL to be X + [CMC as printed on the card] and then decide to pay 0 instead. Works for Banefire as you described.
Avacyn’s Judgement still doesn’t work the way OP wants, though. Madness is an alternative cost as is what you’re doing with As Foretold. According to 117.9a of the comprehensive rules: “Only one alternative cost can be applied to any one spell as it’s being cast.”
So you either cast avacyn’s judgement from your hand to deal 2 damage divided as you choose and decide to pay 0 instead OR you discard it with lightning axe and pay the full madness cost.

  • Disciple of MTG

so does this really work with chalice… does any card that says cast a card for free work with kicker/multikicker?

  • Hellsin

Anybody else notice that the hands are held in the shape of Bolas’ horns? So cool.

  • Chromasticore

    Atraxa approves

  • Daniel Kaine Allen

I’m actually kinda happy this doesn’t cost any less. If it did it might get an instaban from standard.

  • ConDucktor Whirl Crate God

    Atraxa’s precious :3

    • Jacob Kodicovic

I guess Atraxa is a closeted Bolas worshipper.

      • Daedalus

I think we all knew that already though.

  • munkeemanometal

    Aeverything Vial seems pretty sweet.

  • Cthulhooo

Ramp your As Foretold on turn 1. Start casting everything.

  • Deadly Berry

The effect is once per turn, you can use your instant/flash cards on your opponent’s turn for free. This card is awesome.

  • kju

For example this allows you to cast off-color spells…
I can see it in vintage… turn 1 or turn 2 play … and playing 3 or 4 visions in the deck ( 0 mana) which match very nicely against misstep.

They will problably restrict Ancestral Vision in vintage like they did with Treasure Cruise.

Free counterspells so long as you have one in hand :0

  • prplprince

this will be banned in modern. Blue with anything will get stupid real quick. Excuse me as I casually cast cryptic for free or flash teferi on your end step. Granted it takes 4 and 5 turns for those counters to get on the card but which color is great at stalling the board for about 10 turns until it finishes you off with a man land…..

    • Gabriel Fortier

I don’t believe this will be banned anywhere. This actually seems quite balance for the original mana investement + the time for it to be ready. Why not just play blue, counter normally and kill your opponent with manlan/gideon/elspeth sun’s champion ? I think this will shine in commander or some janky combo deck.

      • prplprince

It will get banned when you can cast the suspend cards like restore balance or ancestral visions from hand without suspending them. Bant-Foretold will be a force. I’m not saying I’m against this btw because I’d love to play it. The best case: Go turn one mana dork, turn two foretold with a free visions. I can see spell pierce use going up because of this card.

        • Coulter Baker

I don’t think that works (I could be wrong though) it says you may pay 0 “for a spell you cast.” That seems to imply you need to be able to put the spell onto the stack normally in the first place, which you cannot do with a suspend spell. compare something like brain in a jar, which says “you may cast.”

          • prplprince

if I’m not mistaken it was confirmed that you can cast the suspend cards with As Foretold. Its kinda like cascading into them and getting to cast them for “free”

  • xxxx

Ramp up with artifacts/rituals/spirit guides -> play this + restore balance -> watch as foretold slowly tick up while nobody has lands, you mindetwisted your opponent for 7, wrathed the board only to slowly kill your opponent with random stuff like spirit guides …
Can’t wait to build that deck :D

  • Benjamin Hilton

Quick question: Does Chalice for 0 counter all spells cast with As Foretold? I believe it does because it says “you may pay 0”.

    • Kahai

If you mean Chalice of the Void, X is zero.

If you mean Everflowing Chalice, you can mutlikicker the hell of out it, like normal.

      • Benjamin Hilton

I mean Chalice of the Void, my bad!

        • Kahai

To answer your question: 12/1/2004 If there are zero charge counters on Chalice of the Void, it counters each spell with a converted mana cost of 0.

This is an alternative cost, You will only counter spells with actual CMC’s of zero.

          • Benjamin Hilton

Oh ok, thank you for your explanation!

    • Tye

He didn’t answer your question. No, Chalice on 0 will only counter spells with CMC 0. This spell allows you to cast your spells as if they cost 0, but it will not change their CMC.

      • Kahai

Read down the thread next time, i did answer him. :P

        • Tye

When I read “If you mean Chalice of the Void, X is zero. If you mean Everflowing Chalice, you can mutlikicker the hell out of it, like normal”
I assumed your answer after that was still under the same pretense trying to cast Chalice off his As Foretold. He was asking if all the spells cast off As Foretold were snagged by Chalice.

You should have mentioned the cards being cast won’t have their CMCs changed rather than tell him the ruling to Chalice for clarity, lol. You are correct, though. You did answer his question properly on second look.

  • Robert FakeLastName

huh slower slightly worse aether vial def edh thing.

    • DJPad

Lets you cast a spell on every turn, including your opponent’s turn. Not to mention, allows you to cast non-creature spells.

      • Robert FakeLastName

my point is that this won’t replace aether vial anywhere where aether vial is played except in multiplayer formats. the effect is slightly better but overall still worse. Also, casting is worse than it just happening as aether vial allows.

      • Wa Kweli Kamal

Does anybody KNOW if this means you can cast creatures on your opponents turn as well??? I mean… It dies read once a turn you can cast a spell…

    • Tavis Carrillo

Also aethur vial allows you to cast only equal CMC. This is equal or less

    • Blahblahblahbla

I hope no one was considering replacing aether vial with this. This card plays such a different role for a different archetype. It’s like comparing snap caster mage to tarmogoyf.

      • Robert FakeLastName

yeah i kinda realize that now.

  • annon23

So would Dust of Moments work on this cards time counters then?

    • Trevor Terry

      Yes

  • kmk888

This seems great. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a Standard or Modern surprise lurking with this one.

  • I

Ummmmmm what about cards with no cmc?

    • AlaAlba

      No such thing.

      • TheAweDude

Living End, Restore Balance, Ancestral Vision and the rest of that cycle say otherwise.

        • AlaAlba

Wrong. They have no mana cost. They have a *converted* mana cost of zero.

    • Deme –

Notice the “[…]rather than pay the mana cost of a spell you cast[…]”, which means it is an alternate mana cost. This goes with “117.6a If an unpayable cost is increased by an effect or an additional cost is imposed, the cost is still unpayable. If an alternative cost is applied to an unpayable cost, including an effect that allows a player to cast a spell without paying its mana cost, the alternative cost may be paid.”

  • Robert FakeLastName

as a blue player i cannot even say that i ever “needed” this effect. but now that i have my mini omniscience, I will use this more often than is healthy.

  • Eric

This card is busted, gonna be banned in older formats.

  • Trigger Reed

    Aether Vial 17.0 Beta

  • Anthony George

Gisa and Geralf. Free zombies from the graveyard as time goes on.

  • kk

    Use it with manamorphose also…

    On turn 5… It has 2 counters… play manamorphose for free + 5 lands = 7 drop.

  • ymmij X

this will work so well with all the old time manipulation cards

  • Alex Egertsen

Note for speculation? Timecrafting in the fringe deck this card finds a home
