  • Aidan23

    I knew he would return.

    • AJ

Me too, shame no spark though. Nice having sphinx rev on a 6/6 flying grand abolisher

      • AJ

Oops my mistake, its an etb and only during opps next turn hmmm…. not that fantastic

        • Kahai

Brago, King Eternal would like to have some words with you.

          • AJ

            Howdy, yea he would ;)

Although its still an iffy setup and still only states during that players next turn! So you bounce him and shut off instants from their turns? Turning off Sorcery is annoying though. Would have rather it say till your next turn instead!

Saying that, I could be wrong and missing something though sooo ill have to wait and see i guess but i think he is a good filler for EDH and flying card draw beater for standard.

          • Justin Brown

            my thought

  • Dr. Burn Crow

I’m sad he’s not a planeswalker but I’m happy to know this big ol beasty.

    • Kahai

I’m sad he’s not a planeswalker or insane for a touch of black. But he is wonderful as is.

      • eltratzo

I’m still not convinced madness adds black. making people go insane is black. being insane tends to be red or rakdos.

        • Kahai

I see inducing madness as primarily U/UB. Someone going insane is definitely in blacks ball court: Gibbering Descent, Descent into Madness, Brink of Madness, Psychotic Episode, Strength of Lunacy.

          • Hedronal

I feel like he more could have had a morality shift than a sanity one. Perhaps shifting morality would have been how he kept sanity.

  • Kahai

    Oh hi there fella.

You’re lookin pretty abuseable right here. :3

  • Márcio Siqueira

repeatable sphinx revelation on a stick.

  • Alexandre Donnart

A great card for my Unesh deck !

    • Brian Schmidt

You mean Unesh will look great in your Azor deck?

      • Alexandre Donnart

I’m not building a control shell with random Sphinx synergies if that’s what you’re asking.

        • Hedronal

Color identities don’t let Azor fit in Unesh commander, barring homerules.

          • Alexandre Donnart

Did I mention Commander ? What is wrong with you guys ?

          • Hedronal

On a site about Mtg, decks that are stated to be about a legendary creature default to commander without a format specified.

  • Kahai

Azor broke the DB for a few minutes there guys lol

  • Jalais

ETB probably not relevant, but a nice body with a fantastic sink. Slamming this so hard in draft, even pack 3.

    • Gord

ETB good since it’ll prevent that first kill spell – so you’re much more likely to be able to swing once and get your revelation

      • Jalais

Very corner case. Most standard played removal is instant speed, so if they’re tapped out when you play it, they just pass and play it during upkeep, which does give you a chance to untap for counterspells, but I think it’s still very situational.

  • Siraphon

    Commander my commander!

*Pulls out all my old Azorious cards*

Even Gordon Ramsay is going to complain that there is too much flavor.

  • Chaospyke

Very sad that Its not a pw, but Still great for sphinx tribal and I recently pulled Unesh :]
    Happy!

    • DJ Pad

Didn’t Azor sacrifice his planeswalker spark to make the Immortal Sun?

      • Hedronal

Yes, but we only just found out, and there was still room for schenanigans about it.

        • Brian Schmidt

So is this like Ego from Guardians 2? Kill the Immortal Sun kill Azor? Or does Jace just have to go up to him and say “Hey can you like…let me leave?”

          • Hedronal

Bolas has a plan to get the thing, so he must think that there’s some way to get it off of Ixalan. Probably Tezzeret can come turn it off or something.

The schenanigans also include ideas like “Break the thing in the right magic way and the spark goes back to Azor.”

  • Andrew Price

Alright, alright, wotc, i’ll build god-pharoah’s gift, no need to be so pushy about it.

  • Happy The Cat

but none of these abilities are instant speed! Sphinx’s Rev is good because you use it at the end of an opponent’s turn, and most good removal spells are instants they can just kill this with once they pass the turn.

    • Steven Wallace

You act like this isn’t a control finisher and that you would cast it without protection. ‘dies to removal’ is not an argument.

      • Happy The Cat

I’m not saying “dies to removal” but what I am saying is that this evasion doesn’t actually do anything when most every removal spell is an etb or an Instant that can be slow rolled. It’s like wearing a raincoat in a hurricane, sure it’s keeps rain off you for a bit, but then you have to deal with the actual problems. and with most counterspells costing 3+ mana making the on attack dump worse and a mechanic built around late(r) game strats, this is very underwhelming. why reinvent the wheel when they could’ve just used Hexproof? Then Sphinx’s Decree is a better card since their only way of killing it would be wraths, which are mostly sorcery spells.

    • DJ Pad

I mean, you don’t have to tap out on his Sphinx’s rev trigger. Even if you’re only drawing 2-3 a turn and gaining 2-3 a turn, it’s pretty hard to beat.

  • George Zamyatin

Shut up and take my money!!

  • Dr. Burn Crow

I just hope he doesn’t sense peril on Ravnica so he has to project his presence on the plane and stop some kind of conflict, but the exertion of the projection is too much for him and he dies. That’d be a mighty disappointing ending for a much-beloved character like Azor.

    • TezzeretofCarmot21

You did not just steal the Last Jedi’s ending!

      • Dr. Burn Crow

        Woah, spoilers!

        • TezzeretofCarmot21

          Oops sorry!

          • Shagoth

Edit, Anakin, I have the high ground!

          • Dr. Burn Crow

            Hello there!

  • sansmyhands

We’ve got a Rev on a stick! A Rev with legs…ooh, can we start calling this Rev Run?

  • Han Solo II

I had a feeling we would see more of Ravnica soon, perhaps after Dominaria or a block or two after is the Return to Gatecrashing of the Dragon’s Maze Guildpact of Dissension

  • Kaiser

    Ravnica city of pirates

  • Hedronal

The golden art goes well with his blue/purple design.

  • Chance Ploegstra

    I KNEW IT!

  • kukuc96

Sphinx’s Revelation on legs. Shame its only on attack. Doesn’t seem good enough for standard. Could be a cool commander though.

  • Ben Peterson

Does this go in Roon and Brago decks? Seems like a good way to lock a bunch of people out.

    • Ceinan Boileau

This would be devastating in Brago EDH. Hit with Brago to blink Azor each turn and none of your opponents will never be able to cast Instants or Sorceries on their turn. Even better is that it doesn’t matter who Brago hits, everyone will be affected.

  • TezzeretofCarmot21

My new Azorius commander. Screw Lavinia.

  • BlueBestColor

Imagine this on a Brago style deck. It would be freaking impossible to kill cause nobody can use instants or sorceries, ever.

    • Ziembski

Not really, it says only on that players turn, you can still cast doomblade at opponents turn

  • Dave

This won me every game in my WU Control deck at prerelease. Was my promo and the only rare in the deck. :D
