  • Jalais

Torement of Hailfire and Vizier of Tumbling Sands, just get in! Get in there!

    • Marvin Sürig

Green Blue Deck with a black card as finisher splitted in and a card that filters your lands into counterspells and become the finisher you need. Why not?
Not to mention Gift of Paradise gives you life.

      • Jalais

I was thinking more W/U for stuff like Settle and Cast Out, and just all the counter magic. Plus some life gain would help against Ramunap.

        • Marvin Sürig

Oh you’re right. Who needs mana Fixing when the flip side adds mana of any color

          • Jalais

Thinking of auto-includes that let you flip this, land obviously, opt at 1, other copies of this and negate/essence at 2, vizier and thopter arrest at 3, settle, cast out, and glimmer at 4. As long as you can keep up a counter for every Abrade and Fragmentize, this could be what control needs to come back.

          • Marvin Sürig

That’s right As long as this get’s protected it can turn into quite the card to assure victory. Wonder if this will find a place in modern with Sphinx Revelation

          • Jalais

Two other standard legal cards that could be win cons with this much mana are Ballista and Tilonalli’s Summoner.

          • Marvin Sürig

To bad Tilonalli’s summoner is bad against spot removal. I rather have a wincon that is harder to stop. But there is still Cut / Ribbons if one wants to go into Jeskai Control. Plus Cut Ribbons could be Exiled as a 4 Mana card. I also like Commit Memory as pseudo Counter because it can turn into a 10 Mana slot for the flip of this artifact or will the hand quite easily after adding a lot of mana.
Good that the old rule isn’t active anymore that would’ve made one card count for two mana costs xD

          • Jalais

Only thing I don’t like about cut//ribbons is I think graveyard hate is going to be prevalent. Commit’s a good pick though.

          • Marvin Sürig

You’r right there are a lot of graveyard hate cards. But most of them forbid to target the graveyard. Wonder how often the Desert and the new Artifact see play. Especially because the Artifact interacts with both.

  • Dr. Burn Crow

    JEZUZ.

  • Pocketfulofgeek

Me when I first saw this: “Well that’s super hard to flip, the transformed side had better be good”

Sees transformed side: *Spits out tea*

    • Jalais

This is just dying to be paired with Vizier, so you can flip faster, then get double, triple, quadruple the mana!

    • Jay Kilian

This is America. *Spits out Mountain Dew*.

      • Marvin Sürig

This is germany. *Spits out beer*

        • Mini Zem

This is Bear Grylls. *Spits out piss*

          • David S. McCrae

            THIS IS SPARTA!! *Just spits*

          • Hedronal

This is a dinosaur set! *Spits acid at you*

          • Shagoth

This is /pol! *spits out racism and homophobia*

  • I’m sure no one will find a way to abuse this card horribly

  • Magus of the nooB

    Derevi. Done.

  • Oscar

Yeah, the back side is absurdly powerful but how in the world are you going to transform this?

    • Mini Zem

Lifecraft Awakening, Shields of Velis Vel, Waxing Moon.

  • David S. McCrae

You know for a fact this card is going to be brewed around over and over and over. There are far too many cheap cards that say “Untap target Permanent” to let the opportunity pass by.

And for the record: Eternal Scourge and Misthollow Griffin have different CMCs. Exile them to this to get you there. Then after it flips, you can cast them for a little extra mileage.

    • Chaospyke

Don’t forget torrent elemental, but still none of those cards are in standard. and thats only three out of your commander deck.

      • Jay Kilian

And they are all mediocre cards to begin with. Don’t want to be playing bad cards to make another one good.

        • David S. McCrae

          Ah, Torrent Elemental, yeah.
I know they’re mediocre. I just listed them down as interesting interactions.

    • Hedronal

Also Torrent Elemental, to add to the record.

    • Random Guy

I do feel like typically a control deck is going to do better than an untap deck with this card. You pay like, 3 mana and a card just to bring your timer down one turn, while leaving it open to removal.

  • Deadly Berry

    Exile cards with Fuse—>profit.

    • Jalais

CMC is just the total though.

      • Deadly Berry

I see, they changed that rule just last year.

    • Severian Geerts

nope, not at all. you take the total cmc now.

  • Chaospyke

Hate the idea of losing a card forever, but that much mana is just dumb.
    4/5

  • Mini Zem

In Modern, you can just ramp a couple of turns, then T3 you can cast this, lifecraft awakening, Shields of Veils Vel, and Waxing Moon. Then feel free to cast an emrakul or whatever.

In Standard, you will have to actually flip it through it’s intended purpose, since there is nothing like waxing moon in the format, but as others have suggested, Vizier of Tumbling Sands is great for this. Put it in a white blue control build with the new Azor card we got.

  • dduuurrrr dddduuuurrrr

If someone can find a way to turn this into a human you could cast moonmist to force a transform.

    • Mini Zem

See my other comment, I went the werewolf route, but its the same result.

  • Happy The Cat

so two mana for a repeatable loot effect, already not terrible. Gain 5 life when you fulfill an odd condition, cool, whatever. Gain tons of mana after fulfilling said condition… well this’ll probably have $15 foils for edh. there are tons of commanders that can abuse that amount of mana, personally my favorite is Atalya, since this’ll double my life total.

  • Tolle

Honestly, I think an easier way to do this is march of the machines, conspiracy (naming humans) and moonmist.

  • Jeffrey Zom

Seems unplayable in standard. Turn 2 cast this, then for turn 3 to 7 you are forced to pay 1 mana and exile cards from your hand with different cmc in order to transform this turn 7 while you might needed to cast those cards (you also have to be quite lucky to have 5 cards with different cmc. So you have to build a deck that can stall to min. turn 7, has a great split in cmc cards, ideally plays cards that can untap this and then requires high cmc cards in your deck and hand when it flips?! Worst thing is that the opponent probably has removal for the artifact by then (or the land, or the big card you are casting like a simple counter) and that playing a deck build around this card requires a playset while drawing additional copies is almost useless except to exile them.

  • Ben

Do lands have a casting cost?

    • wiseguy

They have cmc 0 so you can exile a land as 1 of the different cmcs

      • Ben

That’s what I thought, thank you.

  • mehngo

Omnath welcomes thee. Early game filtering in mono-G is much appreciated, and the obvious swing once it flips makes it a shoe-in for me. It’s very cheap and the deck runs many varied CMC’s. Combo this with a Sylvan Library and you can get this thing going without a whole world of trouble.
