    Affinity anyone?

    • Avery Standley

    • Really, really hard to justify this over Galvanic Blast.

  • Marvin Sürig

So we get an Athreos for artifacts, convoke with Artifacts and a Voidslime with generic instead of Green o,O. Not to mention A guy that can pair up with an artifact giving it an ability and the Artifactc with have “Soulshift” for artifacts.
The inspiration from former sets is strong in this one

  • Dr. Burn Crow

What is going on in this art? What is that behind him?

    • Ryan Cameron

      Ensnaring bridge masterpiece?

      • BusinessmanGinger

        That’s what I keep saying!

    • Zombie

      It’s a giant etherium/metallurgy thingy.

Remember the card Metallurgic Summonings from Kaladesh? Kinda like that except huge and probably not a creature.

      • Dr. Burn Crow

That tells me nothing. Maybe even less than nothing.

      A PORTAL TO NEW PHYREXIA!!! i wish…

  • chad

this is good!!! edh playable for sure. artifact tokens has got to be a thing for this to work efficiently.

  • MTG fan

I don’t understand improvise’s wording. Anyone know how this works?

    • asdfg

it’s convoke for artifacts. You pay your mana, then tap any number of artifacts as if they each tap for 1.

      • MTG fan

        • Hedronal

Note, unlike convoke improvise only gets generic mana.

    Also story spotlight #4

  • Jakob Schneider

    About the reminder text:

Props to Wizards for this ‘approach of keeping ‘intuitive wording’.
It’s an almost an ‘Alpha-esque’ wording that’s phrasing things for players rather than judges.

(Even more so than Convoke did.)

  • Blahblahblahbla

Wording is a bit.. wordy. They could cut like 30 words from this card.

    • BusinessmanGinger

Well it is a new mechanic so some people might be confused as to how it works, just like when Convoke came out there were some newer players who didn’t know how it worked. I say as long as everyone is clear on how it works, it works for me :)

  • Shagoth

Okay I’m terrible with names. Almost artifact convoke.
    Fixed affinity is pretty cool.

  • Brian Schmidt

I feel that this would have seen Eternal format Affinity had it been an instant but perhaps they saw in testing that would have been too much. Gonna attack with that Goyf? Not gonna happen today and also, that Alpha swing you were about to do, yea I just gained 10 life in the process.

    • BusinessmanGinger

Right I agree with you that it would be a bad idea to have this at instant speed and I’m pretty sure things like this were you pay X to gain a certain amount of life will always stay at sorcery speed, it’s always been like that with things like Debt to the Deathless, Death Grasp, Exsanguinate, Swallowing Plague etc.

  • Rovkir Hexus

So it’s affinity but you have to tap the artifact.

    • Robert FakeLastName

more like convoke stapled to affinity. it is really weird.

      • Vizzerdrix

Quick note this doesn’t work for colored mana so it’s a little worse than convoke

        • Robert FakeLastName

i am aware. it also would not pay for required colorless mana either, like new kozilek.

    • Zombie

      It’s more like Convoke.

  • Jacob Vartuli

Can I tap my Servo tolkens to help pay for this? What is the interaction with Cryptolith Rights? Does it amount to tapping my servos for mana and then it doubling?

    • I.R.Shnow

Activating mana abilities usually require taping. And you CAN’T TAP what’s not untapped…

      • Jacob Vartuli

        Oh, I see. Thanks!

  • Vizzerdrix

Hmm battle at the bridge, similar art to ensnaring bridge and you can use ensnaring bridge to cast it, I like it

  • Scathain

Convoke for artifacts is an interesting thought. Seems better than Death Wind, despite the sorcery speed, but still balanced.

  • Happy The Cat

so Convoke with badly written reminder text. could be cool.

  • kmk888

I mean this enables a couple pet decks but I don’t know whether it’s going to see a lot of play. Depends on the prevalence of servos I think. Neat with Tireless Tracker.

The mechanic itself is worth talking about though. This is the exact type of mechanic that can be horribly broken, I’d be surprised if R&D didn’t play this one real safe after affinity.

  • MTG fan

When servo exhibition or cogworker’s puzzle knot gets a new best friend…

ITS A PORTAL TO PHYREXIA!!! Right? Right? Anyone?

    • Kaiser

its a portal to the multiverse, like a PWalking machine

Ah yep, I see. It could still mean Phyrexians though, right? I mean, it looks fairly “tainted”. I dunno. :
