• Jek

    Best. Quote. Ever

    • Matthew Douglas

Was just about to say the same. Great artwork, too.

    • Kitnz

These Gatewatch folks are really just the World Police from Team America. Like, “You have a society and culture developed from the ground up over centuries? Not anymore!”

      • Cthulhooo

Seems like hour of devastation will be an epic combo of Gatewatch messing everything up, returning Bolas and erupting crazy civil war that ends in total destruction of everything. Murica, f**k yeah!

      • The Dracogenius

First they start a multiplanar war by setting the Eldrazi free (looking at you, Nissa), then they incite a Rebellion on Kaladesh (looking at you, Chandra), and then they try to gather all the praise by stopping the evil they let lose. Sounds very much like American Peace keeping to me.

      • Hedronal

As of today’s story, (Spoilers incoming) it seems that this culture is at most a century old, and made to give power to Bolas, the biggest baddest individual in Mtg.

    • Zombie

      Chandra 2 edgy 4 me

  • Minizem

Not the artifact removal we deserve, but the artifact removal we need. Or, something like that.

    • Zombie

      Needs more Shattering Spree reprint

  • Transgendent

Is this the first none rare story card?

    • Nathanael Lambert

the first story card in this block was also uncommon

  • jay

i mean…multishatter, AT uncommon. i dig. i dig very much,

  • Luca Hope Fallon

This seems just… So, so good in the current metagame holy smokes. I wonder if it’ll replace release the Gremlins or still be played alongside it, the advantage of getting a 2/2 is big but in the early game destroying two vehicles for three mana or taking out a Heart of Kiran on the draw seems… Ugh really good

  • Polis_Ohio

Oh yes, rub it on the skin. Standard playable cards.

  • Cthulhooo

It plays a non-vehicle deck or else it gets the hose again.

    • Adam Rhone

      Amen lol

  • KrakenHunter

Finally we can see more decks than mardu vehicules.

  • prplprince

Top 5 best flavor texts in this set by far

  • ChaosEngineer

Man this makes me feel really bad for spending $10 on 2 shattering sprees.

    • Cthulhooo

This makes me feel stupid for feeling bad for not spending 10$ on shattering spree and instead going with vandalblast.

      • ChaosEngineer

When playing storm Shattering Spree is a better option for mass artifact removal as producing large amounts of red mana is easy. But this offers about the same advantage.

        • Cthulhooo

Easier to cast when you have multiple colors.

  • Cthulhooo

Actually only after a while I realised how badly nuanced that card name is. This card is obviously an answer so how are they going to answer those oppresive artifacts and vehicles in current meta? … By force!

  • Kameenook

So a splashable Shattering Spree in some ways. Shattering spree would kill more artifacts but requires a heavier red commitment, so this can be better in decks that aren’t heavy R, but also shattering spree is better vs. potential counterspells. Luckily to my knowledge decks running a plethora of artifacts (affinity) aren’t heavy on counterspells. So this can do stuffs

  • Bige Boiy

the gatewatch keeps travelling the multiverse and overthrowing random governments

    • Cthulhooo

      TIL Eldrazi were in office.

    • Hedronal

With all their different ideals, the group would tend towards unified chaos. Also both governments are being manipulated by at least one generally evil character.

      • Deadly Berry

Nobody ever bothered to ask the Eldrazi what they wanted. Also, who says Bolas is mistreating the citizens of Amonkhet? They seem pleased and happy enough.

        • Will

Its like I was told in an economic theory class: (Star Wars) The Galactic Empire did not truly mess with its citizens on an interplanetary scale and that the Rebel Alliance caused more damage and chaos in total and also killed more people as a net some while tanking both and economic and social stability.

        • Hedronal

The Eldrazi were eating Zendikar and crazying Innistrad though.

Bolas seems to have killed three gods and anyone over 30, and gotten the rest of them to want to die for him.

  • Caleb Halbrook

I kinda hate how much this targets vehicles… like ok we get it mardu vehicles runs the meta but maybe we can just make a better deck instead of completely hosing an already strong one

    • God Enel

Stop. Standard desperately needs good removal right now, the battlecruiser magic has to end, we need good threats and good answers, so this card is very much welcome.

    • Jay Kilian

If such a deck existed and was resilient enough for other decks, it would have been found. There needed to be answers in this set to all sorts of dominant themes and this fits right in. Still need more graveyard hate.

    • Giby86 .

This was designed years ago. They obviously knew that vehicles would be good, but this is not an emergency hoser printed to fix the meta.

    • Cthulhooo

Better….Deck? A deck much stronger than currently strongest mardu vehicles wouldn’t bring any balance, just completely shut down anything else.

      • Tolle

They are supposed to bring balance to the meta! Not leave it shrouded in darkness!

  • Insight66
    • Erik López Barcelar

  • imoth

“DISSENT?? I dissent! Your most dissenting dissenters have never dissented like they’re about to dis-”

“Ma’am.. I think.. yes, my arm is quite badly burned, if you could-”

“-sent! We’ll dissent until your entire civilization is in ruins if we have to! Gatewatch, assemble!”

  • Nanya

    Chandra is awesome

  • Aleczander117

    Modern Sideboards everywhere

  • Winter Trabex

I guess I’m adding red to my black/white deck now.

  • foxboy1000

And Maro said unto thee, “Go away vehicles, shoo.” And all was good in the land.

  • DJPad

So all those artifacts you wanted to play after Kaladesh block?…ya no.

  • DJPad

Why does Chandra’s flavor text always make her seem like she speaks similar to a modern day 14 year old?

    • Scathain

Because that’s what she acts like in the story too. Chandra just isn’t a mature character.

      • George Robinson

She is written so poorly. Hell, they all are written very poorly. I think trying to make engaging stories w/so many main characters is too much.

    • Cthulhooo

That’s what she is in the story. 14 year old edgy red mage in adult body.

    • Jalais

Have you read the Kaladesh story? The whole gatewatch are written like a teenage cliche.

      • Serj

mnmn more her than the others

      • Serj

        Liliana for example no

      • Will

You are right, I’ve been commenting for a while that the derp-watch is based on high school identity themes – the target audience keeps getting younger.

    • Hedronal

Her formative moments have mostly been during childhood/early teenage. Also, she’s like 19.

  • Does this… does this BTFO Shattering Spree?

    • Robby

Well, this card allows you to pay multiple mana colors, but at the expense of destroying one less thing, as well as being one spell instead of many. So, if you can afford the red mana, and your opponent is playing counterspells, Spree is WAY better.

  • Jeremy Scott

Release the Gremlins is still better for standard. I’ll gladly pay 1 more for each artifact, and get a 2/2 out of it.

    • Jay Kilian

I think the math is way different. to destroy 3 artifacts this would be 3R. Gremlins would be 6R (and you’d get 3 tokens). So beyond maybe 2 artifacts on the board, this new card is clearly superior.

  • kk

lolol a better version of Shattering Spree….

Can be played in every deck with red…

    powerhouse sidebord multiformat…

    • Robby

Not necessarily better. This kills one less artifact than Spree does for the same mana. Also, this can be destroyed with a single counterspell, whereas a counter can only stop one of Spree’s destructions. But if you aren’t in mono red, this is still a very reasonable alternative.

  • Lord Gonti Of The Orzov Networ

    quite useful artifact hate.

  • Shagoth

You’re the red planeswalker, and that burn was so bad that it made me feel cold.

Also, it was adorable that Release the Gremlins was in most sideboards, this is so much better, the gremlins were hilarious!
Also my Crewless Vehicles deck is going to not be able to fight against this.

  • Curt Vandruff

Dislike the name, feels like it’s missing something (like it was an aftermath card they de-fused)

Still sweet red artifact removal has returned, and at a more efficient price then gremlins

  • Kameenook

Can anyone link me to the story this is involved in, I read uncharted realms but it was just about the GR mythic. Nothing to this extent.

    • Hedronal

The story goes on after the full spoiler is out, so we get story cards like this before the moment is portrayed. Thus far, we’ve seen only the first Amonkhet moment written out.

      • Kameenook

Ah I see, it sounded like everyone else had read a story and I went to uncharted realms and couldn’t find anything. Looking forward to it though, although right now it seems like they might be gearing up to fight ol’ bolas and i love that guy i hope nothing bad happens to him !

        • Hedronal

No way does Bolas die this block. He’s way too clever and powerful for five human(ish) neowalkers to take him out when he has a home court advantage and they have about two days to plan.

  • MrAptronym

    “Cool” flavor text.

  • kmk888

I am definitely beginning to believe they will not ban anything from Mardu Vehicles.

  • Will

Seriously, when will the artist learn not to draw her fire hair all retarded?

    • Will

It is like Marge Simpson mixed with Bozo the Clown :(

    • eltratzo

this is only the second time he has drawn here. the other is torch of defiance.

  • Deadly Berry

Chandra in Amonkhet aaaand we got nigh full gatewatch AGAIN. Me sighs.

    • Fey

Apparently their story arc and the whole Gatewatch thing is tracking well with whoever they’re testing it on.

Maybe Bolas will kill them all and we’ll be spared from all the incredibly interesting character development of Jace that everybody loves and in which everyone is absolutely invested.
