• KrakenHunter

    Wow…a real counterspell…

    • KÖLLEWOOD (MOBIL)

Reprint Standards … finally again the original “fixed” CS for common players exept invocation original

  • Kahai

Beautiful art. :3 So many cards in this set are going to make such wonderful foils.

  • Tolle

That art. Couldn’t they have given it to us on a playable counterspell?!

    • Zombie

Considering this is going to be one of the most played Blue spells in Standard, if not THE most played Blue spell, the art will see quite a bit of use.

      • Cthulhooo

Have you changed your profile picture to catch people off guard with memes?

        • Zombie

No I just change it when a new Zombie token comes out that I like.

      • Hedronal

Why? It’s in the same rotation group with Disallow.

        • Zombie

Since when has ANY Control/Tempo deck ever played just a single counter spell?

Once scatter leaves, Cancel is pretty much the only unconditional hard counter blue has left beyond Disallow that isn’t horrid garbage, because for some reason Wizards really doesn’t like printing cards like Dissipate or Dissolve anymore.

          • Hedronal

Fair points. I don’t run decks that keep me keeping track of standard hard counters.

      • Tolle

There is a strictly better version of this card IN standard.

        • Zombie

When people who don’t play blue try to tell me that blue control/ tempo decks don’t want to play more than one counterspell.

          XD

          • Tolle

…Did you just assume my color identity? :P

For the record I am a blue player. And there are just FAR better blue counter spells in standard than this. This card is just horrible. It should not be played anywhere.

          • Zombie

It’s an unconditional counter in a sea of conditional counters, beaten only by Disallow.

It’ll see play if Blue control decks work their way into the meta.

          • Tolle

It hasn’t any other time we had it in standard

          • Zombie

Yeah, because better unconditional counters were printed.

            Dissipate, Dissolve, etc.

Now that Wizards has been steadily beating the dead horse that is Blue, Cancel is pretty much a godsend for this abhorrent format.

Pretty much the only other thing that’s better is the rare Cancel-upgrade from BFZ.

It means there’s still SOMETHING left for Blue players post rotation.

Cuz what were you gonna do once Scatter left? Run Unsubstantiate and cry?

          • Tolle

As I said, we still have other counter spells strictly better than cancel in standard at the moment. And the fact that mana leak is so heavily played in modern suggests that conditional counterspells, especially at 2 mana, are still powerful. And we got on this set.

          • Zombie

The 2 mana counter only works up until Turn 3. Then Cancel is better for the rest of the game, because the 2 mana counter after T3 says “1U: Tap target land an opponent controls, Draw a card.”

Cancel is still an unconditional hard counter. On turn 3 it answers anything except Serpopard.

          • Tolle

Yeah… conditional counter spells suck turn 4 when your opponent is tapping out to cast a 4 drop…

          • Zombie

Cancel answers it too, and answers everything else.

            That’s part of being unconditional.

          • Tolle

And is a full blue more to cast. Which makes it so much worse.

  • Zombie

“Well… we can’t just reprint Counterspell”

“Give em the mediocre alternative so we don’t turn Modern on its head”

    • Cthulhooo

At least it’s the best looking mediocre alternative.

      • Zombie

Looks like Force of Will, too.

The good one, not the sh*tty “Masterpiece” one.

  • God Enel

Really, a reprint of the worst 3 mana counterspell? Thanks wizards, this will surely see play over Disallow.

  • Will

Wizards, why do you always waste your best art on trash cards?
