Flying, haste

Other creatures you control have haste.

Whenever an opponent casts a creature or planeswalker spell with the same name as a card in their graveyard, that player loses 10 life.

  • Trevor Terry

    Amazing in EDH. =P

    • Nilsdir

Except for his second ability, which is amazing in standard

      • zoocalu

        That was the joke

        • Trevor Terry

Glad someone understood it was a joke.

          • zoocalu

            Wow people r dense

        • Nilsdir

          Oh

        • Gareth Martin

Except it is amazing in EDH… Just sucks about the 2nd ability. 6/5 haste flyer for 6 is great. giving all your other creatures haste makes it a great finisher. Where is the joke here?

          • Seregios MH

The second ability was the joke.

          • Gareth Martin

He didn’t reference it in his “joke” so that makes no sense. This card is great in EDH, no joke!

    • not important

True. 6/5 flying haste with a universal haste attached in ridiculous.

  • zoocalu

Mardu might have a chance now

  • RedPandaRevolution

I mean, total respect that this has Standard potential, but why make one of the cycle have a mechanic so blatantly non-EDH conducive? Elder Dragon Highlander needs more Elder Dragons!

    • not important

Universal haste and hastey commander damage is far from non-commander conducive.

      • RedPandaRevolution

For sure. Though I would feel weird using a commander with only a portion of its value recognizable, but maybe that’s just me being silly. It’s definitely interesting design, regardless.

        • Ultramegalord

to be fair she pisses all over relentless rats and shadowborn apostle in edh :)

          • Zombie

And any deck that copies spells with Spellweaver Volute combo.

  • Stef

Looking at Silumgar, this card is very underwhelming and disappointing. :-( Boltwing is a much better dragon for Rakdos/Mardu.

  • SirMannyOrtiz

Extremely mixed feelings about her. Glorious art though.

    • Noatzon

I have to agree, at 6 mana she’s not that god a drop in standard, you arguely want to end the game before she even drop. Though she has a robust body with haste and the ability to give your other things haste are strong but not as strong as you might think considering Dash as an ability. The last part is an hillarious gimmick that could be game changing but will probably just be anoying sice you have to keep cheack on your opponents graveyard all the time. All in al a good MR that will probably see some play in a mardu/rakdos lategame deck V:

  • gabriel

    this + crux of fate?

  • Red

The second ability is just a deterrent, not much to say about it. The first ability is what makes the card. HASTE FOR EVERYBODY.

  • Dragurok

    Anti-Karador man.

  • Ultramegalord

makes you want to sit on some instant kill spells. inresponce to you casting the second rabblemaster i kill the first one take 10 please ;p

    • That doesn’t work that way.

    • gabriel

the second one will be casted before the ability triggers since at that moment no card is in the graveyard

    • LightandFire676

But I liiike the way you think, friend. ;D

  • Keoma Kaiser

It does seem a little underwhelming… but the second ability might be fun. If you think about it you play deck with a lot threats and these threats get handled by the usual suspects and then you drop 6 power with haste and the answer for it is most likely a card that was alrdy played.

  • Lorcogoth

well this counters sultia and silumgar deck very hard

    • Blake

Not necessarily, you can delve garbage out of your yard to work around this effect.

  • James Sweet

The second ability is really interesting (outside of EDH obviously, d’oh). If it were costed just a little lower (and lost some of its other power in the process) then it would definitely see sideboard play in Constructed, as a hoser for certain kinds of decks. I still could see it being a sideboard card, maybe… Or maybe not. The ability would be best against combo decks, but the cost probably makes it way too slow for that. Possibly against control decks? That would give you the time to play it, and if you stick it then suddenly it could became very costly for the opponent to keep using the same old tricks against you. I dunno.

I think we are all too focused on the second ability, though. Cover that up with your hand, and this is still a bomb finisher in an aggro limited deck.

    • James Sweet

Wait, I didn’t notice it has to be a creature or planeswalker spell. Yeah, that kinda sucks then.

  • Dr. Burn Crow

I am disappointed in this. Not awesome for edh.

    • Mightfo

Oh no! A legendary that isnt designed for EDH! OH NOOOOOO!!!

      • Dr. Burn Crow

It seems silly to make it legendary if there is a format that specializes in legendaries, then make it partially useless for that format. But what do I know, I’m just a crow.

        • Kameenook

I guess getting a doctorate must be easier than it used to be.

          • Dr. Burn Crow

I applied for it by scratching my name onto the back of a box of cereal and mailing it in. This was back in the 60s, mind you, when accreditation was a bit more flim-flam whimsical than it is nowadays.

  • Jordan

This card almost straight up kills red or green decks that usually rely on 4x of a few creatures to win the game.

  • grimGrendel

Can someone explain to me how this works with delve? Like say your opponent has a Tasigur in his grave, then casts another one delving away the first one, my guess would be that that player won’t lose 10 lives?

    • Jonathan Rauscher

You need to pay all costs first before the spell is considered cast.

      • grimGrendel

That’s what I thought. Thanks for clarifying.

  • somemtgplayer

This card’s last ability is subpar, but there’s nothing terrible about giving all creature haste for you especially in mardu.

  • cfd

    Wow this card is insane

  • kingalexander61

Crux into this seems nasty, particularly against Green.

  • Spiritriser

For those saying it’s second ability is sub-par, any deck running 4 of a creature against R/B is likely to end up with one in the graveyard due to red burn or black kill cards, making the other 3 very painful to play unless that card is pulled from the graveyard somehow, which, unless the deck is sultai, isn’t likely. For those saying it’s sub-par for EDH, you’re right, but these cards were made primarily with standard in mind, one or two won’t be great for EDH.

    • James Sweet

I partially agree, but it’s 6 mana to bring this out, and if it gets killed then the opponent is free to play their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th copies once again. Are you really better off casting this than, say, casting a Heroes’ Downfall as soon as that 2nd creature gets out?

The 2nd ability would be bonkers on a small creature, especially if it had some way to protect itself. On a big beater like this, I feel like it’s too inefficient to see maindeck play. but I may be straight-up wrong here…

      • Spiritriser

It is 6 mana, but in a set that’s based around dragons, high drops won’t be odd and I’d be somewhat surprised if some fixing wasn’t available to make dragon heavy decks more viable. Yes, if it gets killed, it’s gone, but in a deck with black in it, getting it back from the graveyard isn’t impossible.

If you want to think about it in terms of Heroes’ downfall, this has a wider range. It affects not only one card, but every card that shares a name. For 6 mana, playing most creatures by the time the deck has hit 6 mana will be really painful. If nothing else, it requires an immediate response.

I can see what you mean about the mana cost though, mardu has tendencies towards aggro to say the least, and this isn’t an aggro card. (well aside from the universal haste)

        • James Sweet

To be clear, my comments were in regards to Standard and other constructed formats. In Limited, I don’t think there’s been a single dragon spoiled yet that I wouldn’t first pick in a heartbeat!

          • Spiritriser

I know, i’m thinking about it in terms of standard too :) if nothing else, these are great looking cards and we have no clue whats coming next :)

  • Andy Dondes

I thought Kolaghan was female? And why doesnt it have flying?

    • James Sweet

      Señora does mean female. heh.

      • Andy Dondes

Oh thats right i just looked at the english text, not the spanish hehe

        • kingalexander61

Lord is actually supposed to be a gender-neutral word, just like God.

          • Andy Dondes

I just thought the females would be queen not lord

          • Not GRUul? Then Die!

It would only be queen as opposed to king. I think technically the opposite for lord is lady (although like kingalexander said lord can be used as gender nuetral), but Dragonlady Kolaghan just sounds werid.

          • Andy Dondes

Yeah i know but i think Dragonlady would sound pretty stupid

    • BlahBlahBlahBla

      Vuela: Flying
      Prisa: Haste

  • BlahBlahBlahBla

This is absolutely mad in Standard. I could see this being a dominant force. A couple of these dragons seem pretty playable so far and that is exciting.

That said:; I am baffled that WotC released an Elder Dragon Legend who’s triggered ability does nothing in EDH. HAVE YOU NO SHAME, WIZARDS?!?!

    • Hedronal

As a player that calls it Commander, not EDH, this pleases me. I mean no offense to anyone who does call it EDH of course, but I don’t see the point anymore beyond knocking one letter off of CMDR in text-limited spaces.

  • Leonardo Duarte

    Terrible in EDH.

    Awesome in any other format.

    • ramenloverninja

… Besides standard and EDH in what other format are you consistently getting to turn six or generating six mana to cast this?

  • kmk888

GOOD LORD THAT LAST ABILITY. You like deck consistency? GET SMACKED

  • Zombie

Could likely be a decent 1-2 of to top the curve of Mardu Midrange decks.

Thanks to its colors I can’t really see it anywhere else.

    • Kameenook

I wonder if it drops people to more 2-3 ofs, except for Siege Rhino, that card is strong.

  • Owen Huisman

Run this with Unshackled, wouldn’t that be fun.

    • Hedronal

I have a deck with Unshackled, and Maralen of the Mornsong. It’s nice for kicks with an occasional big win.

  • Derek Niles

Damn! This guy is a boss, I could see him being a curve topper for a few decks in standard right now…unfortunately he’s not useful in EDH which is a let down because I wanted to put all the elder dragons in a Scion deck

    • Pseudowolf

Haste anthem on a dragon probably does enough for scion, doesn’t it?

      • Derek Niles

Yes but I have this thing where I won’t use a card in EDH if I can’t use all of its abilities. Like Ink-Eyes is a solid commander but I would never use her because I can’t use her ninjitsu if she’s my commander.

        • ThePyroAlchema

You can use her ninjutsu just ninjutsu something else a and put her in your hand when she isn’t blocked.

          • Derek Niles

Technically yes, but that kind of stuff just bugs me. I know its weird but its just how I like to play

  • Melissa Juice

Holy moly. This is absolutely terrifying. Love that final clause.

    • kasigah

I guess the only thing I don’t like about that last clause is the fact that I think in EDH too much.

      • Melissa Juice

        You must, haha.
That clause is ridiculous everywhere else. I love that sort of punishment.

        • Kameenook

You’ll come across someone running Shadowborn Apostle or Relentless Rats in EDH, it’s unavoidable. Also having fervor slapped onto a dragon makes it still playable.

  • Scott Mc clean

    owwwwwwwwww

  • Kameenook

    Best buds with Ob-Nixilis.

  • Djough Smytthe

Working on an RB mill list with tormod’s crypt to protect myself. Here it is now, any suggestions?

    4 Dragonlord Kolaghan
    2 Lightning Berserker
    4 Flamewake Phoenix
    4 Bloodsoaked Champion
    4 Tormod’s Crypt
    4 Murderous Cut
    4 Sidisi, Undead Vizier
    2 Soulflayer
    4 Returned Reveler
    2 Ruthless Ripper
    2 Merciless Executioner
    4 Bloodstained Mire
    14 Swamp
    6 Mountain

    • Mike Thomas

Tormod’s crypt is terrible protection. You already have 4 kill spells; if you’re that worried about it, replace for downfalls or the like. Also, soulflayer is pretty bad considering you don’t have much diversity. and take out the returned reveler; they’re pointless in your deck.

  • ThatGuy

Elspeth is just getting worse every day.

  • Master race

    Dragonlord’s servant
    Thunderbreak regent
    Stormbreath dragon
    Dragonlord Kolaghan

Jup, that’s a curving out if i’ve ever seen it.

  • Not GRUul? Then Die!

Am I the only person wondering why it doesn’t just say
    Flying
    Creatures you control have haste.
    Blah blah blah.

  • Happy The Cat

I dare you to play relentless rats
    I
    DARE
    YOU
