• Dr. Burn Crow

Looks like someone called the FUN POLICE!!!

  • Peter Cassell

Interesting that you get both halves when you cast with torrential gearhulk. Not particularly game breaking though.

    • De’Elgathor

Not anymore you don’t. They changed the rules pertaining to all split cards.

      • Nick Smyrnos

The change doesn’t break the interaction for Torrential Gearhulk. The card is still an Instant Sorcery and can be picked up. If it cared about CMC it would potentially break due to the CMC now bring the sum of the two halves.

  • Calvin

Wow an aftermath card that might be actually playable.

  • Edward

Well this looks like it could be the most powerful Aftermath card yet. Also this is just degenerate with Spell Queller on so many levels since you can make it so they can’t cast the card from exile if you name it then Spell Queller is destroyed

    • Shawn Michael Diaz

lol is Kefnet gonna be sideboard tech against this kind of strat

  • Happy The Cat

    …so it’s reflector mage… that only can hit spells… without the 2/3 body…
yeah, no, still powerful. sure bouncing a spell from the stack means they can just cast it again(at some point) but any card that doesn’t support a brain dead aggro deck I am glad to see.

    • God Enel

Aggro decks require strategy too, you don’t see bad players getting top 8 with aggro decks, only the good ones do.

      • Thomas Luffman

Because all the good aggro players beat the bad aggro players and come with the best tuned decks.

      • Shagoth

He’s not that literal, that wasn’t the focus.
You don’t do a lot of cute stuff. The plan in aggro is simple; attack and try to avoid falling back. There’s always strategy. He’s not saying ago players are strategyless, it’s just that they are strategies that won’t completely perplex new players.

  • Zombie

Mini Remand + Mini Silence? Seems mediocre enough for some poor sap to get baited into playing control.

    • Polis_Ohio

We can’t all play zombie tribal.

    • Transgendent

How is it a mini remand, when remand counters the spell and Failure just returns it, thus getting around uncounterables.

      • Zombie

Remand also had the best three word phrase in MTG printed on it.

        This doesn’t.

There’s a reason Remand sees play and Unsubstantiate doesn’t

        • Polis_Ohio

          Which three? “that player’s graveyard.”?

          • Zombie

            “Draw a card”

          • Polis_Ohio

Hah I know, was just trolling.

  • KrakenHunter

    Seems decent, I like it.

  • Brian Schmidt

So this couldn’t see play in Modern? I guess I could see returning say a Goyf, Lilliana or even Abrupt Decay returning to their hands and then you choose that card not to be played next turn and if you play black you can Thoughtseize it if it’s the one thing stopping your strategy. Idk, I am sure I am in magical Christmas world with this card.

    • eltratzo

but in how many cases will it be better than remand? that is what will decide its modern playability

  • Typhuzuzu13

Because reflector mage wasn’t banned for a reason.

    • Hedronal

This only gets things as they’re cast though, and doesn’t leave a body.

  • Newbax

Can it targzt a spell in the graveyard ?

    • sansmyhands

No. When a card just refers to a spell without signifying something like hand or graveyard it means a spell on the stack.

  • kmk888

With enough card advantage, this card seems playable because it’s so efficient.

  • Nanya

    Unsubstantiate is better than Failure.

    Comply is pretty good.

    • MTG fan

Yeah, but realize that unsubstantiate will rotate out after hour of devastation.

      • Nanya

        There is that, yes.

        I only play EDH, so…

        • Rigo Reyes

So why are you comparing this card with Unsubstantiate when can choose a better spell for EDH??

          • Nanya

Because it’s a very similar effect and the same cost

  • Insight66

Ash Zealot would love to be on the board before they have one to use on Ash Zealot

  • Arcus Diabolus

“Get that cat snake outta here. AND STAY OUT.”

  • Billinard

gives Blue white a good card to help deal with Saheeli combo so they have time to focus on other things

  • Shagoth

Two of the most irritating things in the game. I didn’t need a less brutish but more flexible reflector mage. (flexible in some ways)

  • Jeremy Scott

Better than Remand. Excited to play this card.

    • DrGurk

Well, it does hit Abrupt Decay, but i’d still say Remand is superior in more cases.

  • Kahai

With these new split cards, they are changing the rules for all split cards. You will no longer be able to put a split card with a half that has a cmc of 2 or less on isochron scepter; that’s due to the new rule changing how we read the true cmc of all split cards, it’s the total CMC printed on the split card.
