Fleecemane Lion - Theros Spoiler

Fleecemane Lion

  • Color: Green, White
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Set:

1 ManaGreen ManaWhite Mana: Monstrosity 1. (If this creature isn’t monstrous, put a +1/+1 counter on it and it becomes monstrous.)

As long as Fleecemane Lion is monstrous, it has hexproof and indestructible.

  • Dimitrije Simic

wow 2 mana 3/3 that has amazing uses late game is nuts

  • Sifu

A very solid card for w/g, and it should see a fair amount of play.

  • Zombie

Wow, Naya got its curve back, and in a huge way.

  • David Fitzsimmons

now THIS is a monstrous I am willing to pay for. Good lord, the thing is untouchable except for mass bouncing and exile effects. This mightmake Cyclonic Rift a more useful card as it will be one of the very few cards in standard capable of handling this card when it’s monstrous.

    • Ben Ehren

the legendary hydra will also be worthwhile since its a green board clear

      • GRUULman

Yes.. Although you would have to tap 9 mana to kill a 4/4 creature….

        • Ben Ehren

its more an anti weenie maneuver, and besides combo it with other methods of +1/+1 generation and/or CJ menace and it can be devastation, and with nyleas bow (which being lower cost would prolly already be out) you only need 3 mana to kill everything, and mana ramp is big here with shrine to nyx that one druid lady (NAME FORGOTEN) and the new RG planeswalker.

          • GRUULman

Correct Polukranos with deathtouch from the bow is Killer!

          • Leonardo Duarte

But don’t forget that the deathtouch is only when your creatures are attacking.

          • GRUULman

Ok thanks. I seem to have forgotten about that restriction.
Although I should point out that you could attack with Polukranos, trigger the effect of deathtouch from Nylea’s Bow, and THEN activate his mostrosity to “board wipe” what you can.

            :)

          • Leonardo Duarte

            I see your point… Also, you’re welcome.

I’m no judge to affirm someting like this, but, the monstrousity will trigger while you’re attacking, and then, while you’re still attacking it’ll dish out some damage by his monstrousity ability, still getting benefits from the bow’s deathtouch. Or, the damage just trigger after the attack phase ends?

Anyone more enlighted could shed some light here.

          • GRUULman

Yes. You attack, which then activates Nylea’s Bow activation of deathtouch. Then before blockers step, you activate Monstrosity to kill potential blockers.
Just know: You can activate the Monstrosity ability anytime after it attacks, but BEFORE combat damage.

          • hobbitpimp

wrong sir deathtouch is w/e creature deals dmg…thats why u can pit fight a 1/1 vs a 4/4 and kill it

          • jeremysclone

He means deathtouch from the bow…. it says on the card “Attacking creatures you control have deathtouch”

          • Leonardo Duarte

No, no, I meant the “deathtouch” from the bow. This deathtouch only works when you’re attacking. So, no deathtouch blocks.

    • CodyGozRawr

Unless you had glaring spotlight out… Still a great monstrosisty though, and on top of that it’s a 2 drop 3/3

  • Kevan Kramer

    Best Monstrosity card by far.

    • Bennyboy

Yes agree with you 100% there… This will be going mainboard in my Dark Selesnya deck (I know that’s Junk, I just get sick of saying Junk all the time…. HAHA see what I did there??)

  • Orion Moore

Aslan! ..I love the art and it’s a great card. I wounder if Theros will bring us many more selesnya goodies…

  • Joshua McTiernan

Watchlion? Huh? Get it!? Hahaha…….aww man

    • Bennyboy

What about Call of the Pride?

    • Sean Dixon

      +1 internet.

  • Jace must die

    Kitty

  • Joshua McTiernan

If a creature has a +1/+1 counter on it, can it still become monstrous ?

    • Albert Frazier

I believe it can, the mechanic says that once you activate the ability it’ll check if it’s monstrous or not, if it’s not monstrous, you’ll get your +1/+1 counters and is now considered monstrous. you could buff it all you want but until you activate it’s monstrosity ability, it’s not monstrous.

    • Bennyboy

A creature can only be made monstrous ONCE, while it’s on the battlefield. So if you blink it, or return it from the graveyard, you can make it monstrous again. The +1+1 counters are the result of making it monstrous. It’s a fair question, I wondered the same thing myself at first. But the ruling for Monstrous doesn’t rely on counters placed on it, simply by the ability having been activated :)

  • MtgMind-Welder98

    There thats better

    • Brandon Sauer

For those of us in Japan, I would say *different*

      • MtgMind-Welder98

What do u mean? I was just helping others find this before I realized that there was english text below the Japanese one. It’s not that it’s *Better* just so it’s better to read for those who can’t read Japanese

        • Brandon Sauer

I realize that. You said “better” and I decided to be facetious. Nothing bad.

          • MtgMind-Welder98

Sorry it’s was the way you said it that through me off. I didn’t mean to make it sound like a argument my bad :)

  • chace

Um you have a three turn window to deal with it. It isn’t as crazy as you all are making it out to be. I don’t really know if I want to spend my five mana to make this guy live forever. I mean, I think I rather just cast stormbreath dragon then and swing with my team.

    • Antares

2-3 turn window. You can make it monstrous on turn 4. You can also play it on turn 3 (it IS a 3/3 after all), and then make it monstrous on turn 4, closing that window VERY fast.

I think the Dragon is brutal (between him and the Cerberus, it’s tough to pick a top end for decks with red), but this guy is definitely going to see play in aggro decks. Especially with Unflinching Courage. Slap that onto a monstrous version of this, and suddenly you have a 6/6 Trample, Lifelink, Indestructible, Hexproof. The only way to deal with it is a mass exile or something like Terminus, or Infect.

      • Kevan Kramer

Terminus is leaving and Infect not in standard.

      • MaloBeto

        don’t forget sacing

  • Brandon Sauer

Bant is going to slaughter us all.

But the card is glorious; Watch Wolf that can, if you want, become nearly undying for a fair price. Plus the artwork is stunning. Feels like an older card.

    Love it.

  • Nickerton

If you’re unlucky, Renounce the Guilds will be hitting ya. Otherwise, 3 for 2CMC is always good, but with Monstrous this is just that: A monster

  • rangerman

can you put a +1/+1 counter on it with a spell to make it monstrous? or is it only triggered by the creatures ability?

    • rangerman

also once it becomes monstrous it is hex proof, making it un-targetable by your own spells right?
