• DapperRaptor

    Hell Yea

  • Edward

Well it is now very doubtful we are getting Ludevic but I can’t be mad at this.

    • Rœkja

If we were to get him, he would probably be corrupted by Emrakul. Though, an Eldrazi necromancer could be pretty cool.

      • Edward

I would love that too. Maybe a mono-blue commander that flip in to an eldrazi. Could work as part of the instants/ sorceries archetype they are making

        • Dr. Burn Crow

Be still, my heart. It’s too much beauty.

      • Hedronal

Maybe that’s Emrakul’s plan, to pick up some necro-magic from Innistrad and bring her friends back to life.

  • DapperRaptor

Anyone think he looks like the Governor from the walking dead?

  • Kevan Kramer

A great zombie commander and high end for standard zombie decks. Now zombies need a low end

  • Dr. Burn Crow

FINALLY! I don’t care what they cost me, I WILL THE CECANI SIBLINGS LEADING MY UNDEAD HORDE!

    • Edward

My thoughts exactly. Now we just need some sort of collaboration between the 2 in the form of an epic mythic zombie and I will be happy

    • Kaiser

I TRY TO TAKE THE CARD FORM MY PC BUT I CANT! D;!

  • Gord

    so sweet

  • Jacksam

Glory to the Cecani! Necromancer vs Eldrazi

  • MrAptronym

A very nice Zombie commander for the twins, great art and great flavor text. I am very pleased with this but… I really can’t do any more EDH decks!! D:

I like the unity theme among the surivors. I guess that is how you avoid Emrakul’s induced fear of being alone.

  • Zeph

    ohhh this is lovely!

  • Ultramegalord

    Rooftop storm just got crazier

  • Happy The Cat

the wording feels so off, why not just say once per turn? this feels like they are making room for a way to take multiple turns at once.

    • Dylan Dougherty

Because the at phrasing makes it sound like you would be able to cast a zombie on their turn.

      • Happy The Cat

would that change anything anyhow? you can’t really give zombies flash while they are in the graveyard and no zombies(or changelings) have flash you couldn’t cast anything anyway. it looks to me like they gave it bad wording for the sake of bad wording.

        • NC

Newer players would assume that you could cast zombies on other people’s turns regardless, I think.

        • Gareth Martin

Yeh.. I prefer their wording to yours.

  • Melissa Juice

Fantastic. These two are some of the best characters in Magic.

    • Phoenix UNBENCHED

Couldn’t agree more. They’re hilarious, thematically fun, and the best kinds of crazy.

  • Dominic Ng

just that it seems weaker than each of their original version in commander, though this is pretty solid

    • Benjamin Mendel

well you just play aaaall of them at once ;)

    • Edward

They are weaker because this is in standard and the others were in a commander set. That is how it usually works

      • Dominic Ng

I mean weaker in an edh sense. I dont expect Sticher Geralf or Ghoulcaller Gisa to be standard-useful but they are blowout in edh. Gisa and Geralf is a lot stronger in standard but reanimate one zombie per turn is probably not what an edh deck need.

        • Edward

Well actually that is really useful in EDH. You can mil or sacrifice then cast creatures from the grave. Zombies aren’t know for being cheap anyway so you usually won’t be able to cast more than 1 or 2 a turn anyway. It is no Havengul Lich but that would be too powerful for a Legendary creature without any sort of downside. This is kind of what the deck needed. It isn’t by any means amazing but it will get the job done just fine.

  • Ryū

    YEESSS, so much YEESSS.

  • Phoenix UNBENCHED

    Epic. Win. / 10
    <3

  • Steak Sauce

    GZA and Ghostface KIllah

  • Bige Boiy

On one hand, this is really cool. But also I am furious that we won’t get Ludevic, AGAIN.

    • Nolly

Ludevic may end up being a mono blue mythic.

    • Eduardo

Well, since I’m expecting zombies to have a bigger part on this set than it was in SOI (due to Liliana beeing the protagonist, here) I expect Ludevic to be a mono-blue mythic and that it’ll have some good synergies with the zombie tribe

    • Edward

Like other people said Ludevic will be mono-blue. Maybe he will flip in to an Eldrazi Wizard. I think he will still get printed but we won’t know how until he does. He much better fits mono-blue like Geralf as he focuses on alchemy and experiments much more than zombies. I wanted him to be U/B but that is because I didn’t think Gisa and Gerlaf would get printed in the same card and he was the only other one that made sense. He will likely have instant/ sorcery synergies and may make homunculi

      • Gareth Martin

All of that is less then conjecture since you are starting from zero information.

        • Edward

Yeah i know but I just want Ludevic in some form for this set and since there is very little chance of another U/B legendary in this set mono-blue would be the next best thing. It would just be a missed opportunity not to print him now. I really don’t care what he does

  • kmk888

Good for EDH UB zombies… Which already had a great commander. It’s not what UB zombies needed for Standard so imma keep sulking until they show me a 1 or 2 drop

    • Dr. Burn Crow

What was our great commander? Was it Circu?

      • De’Elgathor

Grimgrin. Yes, he’s not great for zombie tribal, but he is a zombie who eats other zombies (and sacrifices things for free all day long) and who beats face very effectively.

      • kmk888

        Grimgrin.

        • Dr. Burn Crow

I wouldn’t consider him “great.” Maybe serviceable, but not great.

          • kmk888

Sac outlet, removal, zombie, correct colors. I have no idea what you wanted.

          • Hedronal

A commander that’s specifically tribal to zombies, not just a zombie doing zombie things, possibly. While I’m not a zombie player, that’s what I wanted from a werewolf commander, and how Ulrich was disappointing.

          • Dr. Burn Crow

Maybe a sac outlet that benefits outright. That would have been nice.

  • Nolly

This in standard with Fleshbag Marauder is just ugly.

    • Rovkir Hexus

Why would you tell people that combo

      • Robert FakeLastName

they would figure it out eventually. i was just thinking of it too.

    • Hedronal

My reaction was exactly: *sharp inhale* “Oh god why?”

  • Zombie

Well I just found my new EDH General

  • Julna Buras

Zombie tribal just got the card they needed. Now Diregraf Colossus will never leave the battlefield short of exiling it and you can just play those Prized Amalgams over and over again. Relentless Dead will be…. well…. relentless.

    • Vizzerdrix

risen executioner? the mil part really makes me want to play zombies most are playable from a graveyard to begin with and this just assures you can play them if they arent and helps to mil. makes me sad sidisi rotated

  • Bige Boiy

This is undeniably my favorite piece of art so far, and that’s saying something. I hope they don’t die like all my other favorite characters (RIP tasigur, venser, lorthos, urabrask, kozilek, oona…)

    • Hedronal

Being fair, Tasigur existed in what we knew was 1280 years ago, so him dying was a fair assumption. That said, he’s still undead and hanging around Silumgar’s neck.

      • Bige Boiy

i consider a character dead when we can see their corpse in the art of a highly played standard card

        • Hedronal

And yet undead isn’t the same as dead dead, as Sidisi 2 illustrates. There’s not as much of a difference in Tasigur’s case, but still.

  • Robert FakeLastName

odd wording “each of your turns”

    • Velvet Wurm

I agree, I wonder why they rather than, you may cast one zombie from your graveyard per turn

      • Gareth Martin

Because that puts it into pseudo flash territory. It’s wording is the simplest for what it is trying to do and I’m not sure how people are getting confused with it.

        • Robert FakeLastName

Well, I think they should have specified “one” rather than “a” zombie per turn. I read “each of your turn” as if it implied that those turns would be in a row. Not sure why in retrospect.

          • Gareth Martin

I think “a” is and should be the correct english usage. There is no logical way to interpret this card then what it wants you to be able to do.

I’m not sure why people are falling over themselves with the language here but lots are :S

  • Deadly Berry

Love the artwork, love the flavor, love the lore behind it, this card is beauty on its own. Now I’m hoping these guys that rose god knows how many ghouls and ravaged entire towns make it out this mess unharmed.

  • Velvet Wurm

WHAT A GREAT COMMANDER! This’ll be replacing Mikaeus for sure!

  • A Simple Moose Token

Well, this is spot on in every way. I can just imagine the zombie hands coming up from below, tripping up the members of the octo-dad cult in the vicinity while skaabs swoop in from above. I guess Gisa and Geralf caught too much attention with all their suave, insane, quippiness.

  • Deadly Berry

Btw, for those wondering for the weird wording, there are many permanents that allow you to cast nonland cards as though they have flash and most of them are blue or artifact. They most likely figured this would go straight to EDH; with 6 players imagine if you could cast a zombie on each of their turns, having 5 of your zombies back by the time it is your turn again. Even if this wasn’t played in multiplayer, it’d be too strong to cast a zombie in your opponent’s turn from your graveyard.

    • Happy The Cat

but you still have to pay mana for any of those zombies, it’s not like you get them for free. also, most of the time zombie decks can already summon several creatures from the yard at once.
No zombies or changelings naturally have flash and there are actually only five and a half ways to give your graveyard flash(leyline A, teferi,Orrery,Winding Canyons, the off colored Alchemist’s Refuge and the currently banned and off color Prophet. the half a card is Rattlechains who lets spirits(changelings) have flash.) sure it would make them a little bit stronger but the card would read much better if it just said once per turn.
also they could have said once per turn, on your turn only. but wizards doesn’t like doing wordings the smart way(his or her instead of their, 20 f*king years after this game was made)

      • Deadly Berry

Yea I know, but usually mana costs aren’t that much of an issue in EDH, and considering how many tutors can get you something when you run black I think the wording, though odd, is good enough. Maybe they are changing wording on some effects.

      • Hedronal

On the matter of zombie mana costs: Rooftop Storm.

  • Tragic

Thanks WoTC for not melding these two. Love this card.

  • Blahblahblahbla

I’m getting a sort of Cersei and Jaime Lannister vibe from this artwork….

    • duke

I totally see it. Especially with Geralf’s eyepatch.

  • Bagel

I’m a little confused by the wording, can you only cast one zombie from your graveyard per turn or can you do it more than once?

    • EJ

You can cast one zombie per turn, during each of your turns. You still need to pay the casting cost, and you also can only do it at a time when you can cast creatures

      • Bagel

        Great thanks

  • Neil

This will be going directly into my Ertai, the corrupted zombie themed EDH deck. I know Ertai isn’t a zombie but it just works so well together…

  • Happy The Cat

yes, please fall in love with card, cause I’m happy to have my eldrazi displacer flicker it for you.
personally, I like my once per turn graveyard interaction like I like my coffee. big, black and with the phyrexian symbol on it

    • Tom Danford

Please do so I can fill my graveyard with zombies that I can cast out and proc Prized Amalgams. Thanks for the card and board advantage.

      • Happy The Cat

enjoy your 3/3 I guess? but you are about to be milled to death by a white deck.

        • MaloBeto

3 mana for a mill 4 hardly sounds efficient to me.

  • Derek Niles

Great card, I was hoping these two would show up again

  • GeralfsMemeTheif

Remember all those times Ludevic wanted to work with Geralf(seagraaf skaab, prized amalgam)?
They’re probably going to make grimgrin 2.0 that instaslams all the eldrazi,
“we don’t need no planeswalkers to save us, liliana” – geralf, gisa, and Ludevic

  • Welp, this is gonna be a fantastic Commander for zombie decks the world over.
