• Larz Eric Paulsen

Too bad days undoing is out of standard

  • Jay Kilian

    WHAAAAAAAA!?

  • Jonathan Reynolds

At the beginning of your next end step, you lose the game… unless you have a Gideon of the Trials emblem…

    Glorious Gideon.dec

    • aswanlikeneck

Or you could keep casting timely Glorious Ends and never have another end step!!!

      • Jonathan Reynolds

When you run out of Glorious Ends, just make sure you have a playset of Disallows in hand and a lot of mana to take care of those triggers.

        • Frank Valdivia

          Or Summary Dismissal

        • eltratzo

ooor you know how to use glorious end optimally and only need to dissallow one trigger since you exiled the others on the stack.

  • Tezzybros

This + gids of trials + panoptic mirror. Gideon immortality may come true

    • Jonathan Reynolds

Panoptic Mirror creates copies on your upkeep. You want to cast this on your opponent’s upkeep.

      • Tezzybros

Elite arcanist or legend version I guess, maybe with dual casting

    • Robert FakeLastName

      mirror is banned.

  • prplprince

So a final fortune-ish card that one extra mana. I don’t know where this card fits. Is this broken with Gideon or is this card just unplayable. Time will tell

  • ymmij X

Oh? You wanted a turn? That’s cute. Darn i couldn’t kill you. Good thing i brought another one!

  • mahichaxler

    Quite funny

  • Brooks Palin

Is this good? I cant really tell. Its a great time walk effect, but you have to know that you will win next turn. I could see this in cat combo if you have the combo set up and you don’t want your opponent to do anything on the penultimate turn. Just play it during their upkeep. This might work in standard, modern on the other hand? No way. To much can happen in modern like a couple of Pact on Negation’s or just one Silence would kill you.

  • kmk888

(Standard) With Gideon of the Trials emblem and a Gideon it’s a counterspell and/or stopping them before they draw, but even then it’s not busted. And obviously if you don’t have a Gideon Emblem you have to try to end the game the next turn or chain into another one and end your turn before the second clause resoles. You’re also pinning your hopes on the opponent not using Cast Out or an instant to answer Gideon. I’d probably pass on this one, but be aware that the old 4x Red mythic/8x Gideon deck may cheese you at FNM.

Maybe it’s okay in modern Ad Nauseum? Other than that I don’t see it.

    • Grant Jacobson

you can cast it before they untap, thus you save this until they tap down and then you get 2 turns for 3 mana. and any proper red aggro deck should be able to finish the game with that

      • Robert FakeLastName

there is no priority pass in the untap step. the earliest you can do this is upkeep.

      • kmk888

        NOOOOOO

No player recieves priority during untap step. You cannot stop them from untapping. You can stop them from drawing by casting it in upkeep or at the beginning of the draw phase.

        • Robert FakeLastName

correction. Before any player receives priority in the draw step, the turn player draws a card.

          • kmk888

Fair enough. Just upkeep for that one then.

      • comandantenorton83

I think you can’t play spells before they untap in their turn…

  • Calvin

    HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

  • Mike Barta

Is there a way to break this with Hive Mind?

    • Robert FakeLastName

yes. play this with hive mind out. HM creates a copy. their copy resolves exiling your copy. the opp has 1 turn to kill you then they lose.

      • Mike Barta

So if you played this on their upkeep, and it ends the turn, am I right in assuming it skips the end step? And if that’s the case, it would be better to cast this on your own turn, yes?

        • Robert FakeLastName

well if you do it on their turn your end step is the next end step so it might still be better on their upkeep.

          • Tolle

The card says “beginning of your next end step.” The only advantage to doing it on their turn here is to untap and be ready with counterspells to stop them.

        • Mike Barta

So this seems like a fun idea in practice, though since there’s not a great way to cheat an expensive hive mind out and win on like turn 4, seems like a cheeky win-con for a control deck yeah? Might be too slow, but still might be fun to explore.

    • DJPad

No more than the pacts, which cost 0-mana and can kill them on their upkeep instead of their end step.

  • Happy The Cat

just when I thought red was getting playable cards again

    • Gareth Martin

One card invalidates the others right?

      • KrakenHunter

        obviously,

      • Happy The Cat

well, we needed one good mythic and we could have been a respectable color again, we have soul-scar, the board clear with cycle, and Harsh Mentor to deal with the loops from the last block, all of which are great cards. but if we had just gotten a big beater to finish with in this slot like stormbreath or Inferno Titan Red probably could have been moved up to no longer being a designated support color.

        • Nall

Like Stormbreath you say? Darn, it’s a shame we aren’t getting any big hasty dragons in Amonkhet…

          • Happy The Cat

I know right? all we have is that five mana 4/4 that is just a worse Balefire Dragon.

          • Nall

            lol

        • Nikolai Anzuoni

I mean this can be a major piece paired with red.

    • Kaiser

This is a good card, you dont have not even good burn spells for use this, but this is good (?)

  • Kahai

WTF WotC don’t be giving other colors the ultimate counter spell of Time Stop!

    • Robert FakeLastName

this one has a minor drawback that makes it ok.

      • KrakenHunter

        ”minor” drawback. lol

        • Kevin Wickland

          you’re only mostly dead

  • Kevin Wickland

    so…RW Gideon?

    • Robert FakeLastName

he is already spoiled at W

      • KÖLLEWOOD (MOBIL)

        Later maybe?

      • Kezvin

I think he’s implying that RW Gideon will be a viable deck in Standard.

        • Kevin Wickland

with one of the riskier tricks you’ll pull

  • Ryū

The art should just be the new Gideon spartan kicking the opponent into the pit.

    • KÖLLEWOOD (MOBIL)

      THIS IS GATEWATCH!

    • Gareth Martin

Yup, that’s what Gideon does! Pushes people to their death.

      • Ryū

Yep, that’s what Gideon does! Makes an emblem that says you don’t lose the game.

  • Kahai

Funny, this counters the banned in standard Promised End…

    • Kezvin

      How?

      • Arran Haigh

As you cast it emrakul and her trigger are exiled

        • JDM

Exactly. Plus it doesn’t target her.

    • DJPad

The end is still promised however.

    • Pier-Luc Tremblay

as well as Sumary Dismissal. You would lose the game though, unless you can kill your opponent on your turn.

      • Kahai

        Disallow the trigger. :D

        • Pier-Luc Tremblay

Sure, but that still feels suboptimal. And you would have most likely wasted your turn to cas Disallow. I’m really sad that red gets a junk mythique once again.

  • Jacob Bachand

Control decks can also just Disallow the “Lose the game” trigger too

    • Random Guy

Is it worth the cost though? 6 mana 2card timewalk or something?

      • De’Elgathor

If your opponent is comboing off, and you can prevent them from doing it by removing a combo piece during your turn, yeah.

      • Robert FakeLastName

time stop is 6 mana so i think it is costed right other formats have stifle and trickbind.

  • Kyle K-glow Glover

it could work in vehicles sideboard i guess, i mean, vehicles knows when they are going to win, this can stop control from getting a draw and make them miss a land drop off from a relevant card.

  • pbtenchi

Platinum Angel + any method of repeatable casting = Welcome to the One Player Game.

    • Пламен Балев

Or in standard – gideon + emblem. Still risky though.

    • Tezzybros

Just have a way to copy it like elite arcanist to be the biggest douche ever

  • KÖLLEWOOD (MOBIL)

Why are all cards are exiled on stack? this should be another part of the card – not “ending the stack”…

    Bad Wording here!

    “End the turn” should mean:
Counter all cards on stack, exile then including this one.
then skip active players turn steps and end his turn
(trigger “max hand size” as normally…)

    • eltratzo

nah. ending the turn has always exiled all spells on the stack. at least timestop (edit:stupid typo was stupid) does just the same as this and has for over twelve years. so why exactly is that bad wording? you may not exactly like it but that is what “end the turn” has been defined as for a long time. for example your wording wouldn’t work. as it would somehow orphan uncounterable spells on the stack while at a stage of the game where they shouldn’t be any things on the stack as after this the next time someone gains priority is the next opponents upkeep. these spells would somehow just sit around wierdly in the opponents untap step and try to resolve their I guess.

one can argue that the spells should go to the graveyard. however the “counter” word can’t be used as we can’t have anything on stack after this resolves. and then exiling is simpler than awkwardly using some “move them to the graveyard” wording.

      • KÖLLEWOOD (MOBIL)

        Timestome?

I dont like that they are removed to the game… i think it needs another wording like “placed in the graveyard ” and because its new turn after this one nothing could trigger

but i understand you… its finally a red type of counterspell yet… with similar prints in later sets ^^

    • Ryan Sullivan

Ending the turn literally cuts this turn short and goes to the next turn. Discarding to max hand size only happens on cleanup step, so this bypasses that.

      • eltratzo

it really doesn’t since the remindertext literally includes that as the effects of cleanup are kind of importent to avoid rulesnonsense

      • David Rodríguez

According to other cards what end the turn, not:

        http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=265087

22/09/2011 Ending the turn this way means the following things happen in order: 1) All spells and abilities on the stack are exiled. This includes spells and abilities that can’t be countered. 2) All attacking and blocking creatures are removed from combat. 3) State-based actions are checked. No player gets priority, and no triggered abilities are put onto the stack. 4) The current phase and/or step ends. The game skips straight to the cleanup step. The cleanup step happens in its entirety.

    • De’Elgathor

Since this is how this effect has been worded since Kamigawa, I think Wizards is perfectly happy with how it works.
If it attempted to counter all spells on the stack, it would miss uncounterable spells, and then there would be potential difficulty tracking which cards get exiled.

      • KÖLLEWOOD (MOBIL)

on which kamigawa card was “end the turn” or “empty the stack”?

        • De’Elgathor

Time Stop. The original “End the turn.” card.

  • KrakenHunter

I wonder if I could make it work in a modern mono-red burn deck.

  • MrAptronym

Yes, this is the kind of silly, powerful thing I like to see. I am going to love playing this.

    • Kahai

It’s funny to see red get the strongest counter spell for 3 mana. ;)

  • Kahai

I wish Eye of the Storm forced you to play all the spells exiled by it… XD

  • Kahai

Strictly better than Summary Dismissal. XD

    • Hedronal

      Strictly redder, that is.

  • Kaiser

Eyyy! XD red getting cool stuff? this is magic the gathering?

  • Daniel Scott

So, Is that the legendary Minotaur there? It certainly looks like him.

    • De’Elgathor

No, the weapon is shaped different and the legendary guy has a lot of ribbons and different looking armor.

  • Iepixlyfail

My sundial deck has another new toy hehe

    • DJPad

You have a sundial deck? Is it even remotely competitive? I’ve always been looking for a way to break the card.

      • Iepixlyfail

Nope just a lot of casual fun.

      • God Enel

It’s not competitive but it’s fun to play.

  • Arcus Diabolus

Another janky combo with Plat Angel.

Any more of this, and I’ll actually be tempted to make a funny deck around this.

    “Lol I shoulda died 10 times already…”

  • Jacob Kodicovic

    Wow.

  • VBFabled

If this is cast after attackers are declared but before blocks or damage, will it just leave the creatures tapped without dealing damage?

    • Jacob Kodicovic

I’m no rules expert, but I would assume so. But that’s not the best way to use it.

      • VBFabled

Well, assuming you have a line-up of creatures big enough to finish them off, but not big enough to stop their creatures, and they do a full swing at you, I’d say it’s not a bad move. Next turn, they’re tapped out, you full swing for the win.

Although if you can recur this every turn, that would certainly be better, as I’m fairly certain it skips the end step and goes straight to the next turn.

  • Eliot Cholerton-Hill

    Does insidious will work here?

    • VBFabled

Depends what you’re trying to do. Yes it works to counter it, no it doesn’t work to change the target, as there is only one turn at any given time, so there is no target to change to, and as far as copying, one of the copies would be exiled before it resolved.

      • Lord Gonti Of The Orzov Networ

Try dissalow and counter the ability

        • VBFabled

Pretty sure that wouldn’t work. Spells have effects, not abilities, so I think you’d still lose. Double check that for sure, I’m no judge.

          • The spell sets up a delayed trigger that can be countered.

          • VBFabled

            Okay, cool

  • dashkatae

So red white deck with this and new Gideon?

  • Thorsten Hammerklopper

    Hive Mind :^)

    • Ryū

Everyone falls down into the well, you just happen to land safely on the bodies of your opponents.

      • Only one copy resolves, the first to resolve ends the turn.

        • Ryū

I guess only Timmy falls down the well then.

          • Shagoth

            You are a god.

          • Ryū

And on the 7th day, Rhonas said “Let there be snakes!”, and there were no blocks that day for fear of Deathtouch.

      • Thorsten Hammerklopper

Yeah it’s kill the player to the right of you or win the game in a 2 player game

    • VBFabled

Only one would resolve. Notice it says that as the spell resolves, you exile all other spells and abilities on the stack, so whichever one lands on top is the only one to resolve.

      • Aurore

Not a relevant complaint if you’re playing two player.

        • VBFabled

Fair, I’ve been in EDH Land for too long, I forgot people play 1-on-1 games…

      • Happy The Cat

target player loses the game is still pretty strong for three mana.

        • eltratzo

well he does get one turn to somehow win. seems fair ^^

          • Happy The Cat

“past turn, upkeep pay W cast Silence, any response?”

          • eltratzo

fair and fun magic at its best

          • Happy The Cat

well, it’s more fair an fun then when the Hive deck asked to pay 9rbggww on your upkeep or lose the game.

          • eltratzo

very true. hivemind is a fountain of fun and fair interactions. (tbh while I might dislike this kind of thing if it gets too konsistent, I love that magic is a game where this kind of wierd “using spells in ways they almost certainly weren’t intended”-interactions exist. they are part what makes me love the game)

          • Happy The Cat

my personal favorite is burn or multi player targeting spells while you have Ivory Mask, not much is as fun as resolving a cone of flame among four people all the while holding a fork and reverberate in your hand.

  • Aurore

When people aim Never to Return at my Gideon of the Trials I be like (⌐■_■)

  • Julna Buras

So can you use this before your opponent untaps?

    • eltratzo

nah. as always players don’t get priority until the upkeep. after untap step. why would it be different here than for every other effect?

      • Daniel Kaine Allen

He probably just didn’t know about it. It isn’t often people are worried about casting spell before main phases.

        • eltratzo

yeah. maybe my wording came of as unnecessarily harsh. that said in such cases I genuinely am interested wether there is a reason that people think something. magic is complicated and I might be missing something.

          • ymmij X

I wouldn’t cast it at upkeep i’d cast it at declare blockers as my opponent put his exert effects or other triggers on stack. Clear buffer, your creatures are tapped and i can swing right through

          • eltratzo

while a good use for the card it has nothing to do with the context of these posts.

    • VBFabled

No, they’d get their untap, but you could play it at upkeep, so they don’t get to do anything else.

  • Matthew Douglas

This for all those times when you could have won if you just had one more turn…

  • Brian Schmidt

    Gideon likes this a lot.

  • Erik López Barcelar

    So Red, I like it!

  • Nanya

Oh look, the Pacts are back.

    • ymmij X

Pacts killed you if you failed to pay up. This just kills you if you dont control a giddeon.

      • Dustin Lanning

or platinum angel or use sundial of the infinte when the gameloss tiggers but you skip your end step.

        • ymmij X

It would be cool to get sundial in hour of devestation to make that a standard strategy

  • MTG fan

This with new Gideon and his emblem– f**k my life!

  • Shagoth

Oh hi, final fortune except more flexible and can counter stuff. How are you doing? Red has a counter all spells card, in addition to giving them an extra turn. This will see modern play, mark my words.
Also, I now have a counter spell to fight artifact hate in my Crewless Vehicles deck.

    • Minizem

This doesn’t give them an extra turn.

      • Shagoth

Not technically doesn’t give you an extra turn, but if play this during an opponent’s upkeep than you basically did.

  • Rictor

Can you stop the lose the game effect with sundial of the infinite

    • David S. McCrae

Yes, because you’re technically not getting to the end step. However, you will need to continue to do it every turn to stop yourself from getting to the end step. If someone destroys your sundial….

      • eltratzo

not necessarily true. you can do it that way. or you can exile the gameloss trigger on your stack. the card then considers its duty done and stops bothering you

        • David S. McCrae

          EVEN BETTER!!!
          (Yes, do that instead! XD)

      • Absinthman

        Disallow dat triggr!

  • John Wayne

    Moar bulk mythiks plox

  • Nebulium

Better and worse than final fortune. Of course not as good in multiplayer, but one on one I would probably prefer this since its a cheap time stop.

    • ymmij X

I plan to run this in group hug as a “final martyr” card. When a wincon goes off you give your life for one last chance to defeat the tyrent

      • Nebulium

That sounds awesome. Makes me wish my phelddagrif edh could run it.

        • ymmij X

I run both phelddys in my deck. Do you like the the originals effects or questing’s better?

          • Nebulium

I’m a fan of the original one a bit more. I’ve got real competitive friends, and that bounce to the hand always seems to protect him better than the other one. But you can’t go wrong with both.

          • ymmij X

Same. Not to mention he’s one of my only creatures that dies to wave of reckoning which makes the bounce super usefull. I was kind of hoping this would be the set where we got a new one.

          • Nebulium

If we got a new phelddagrif, I would be so happy.

          • ymmij X

I figured if it would fit any plane it would be amonkhet. A plane with both hippos and sphinxes. But we’ve seen most of the rares at this point so fingers crossed for hour of devistation

  • kk

    Sundial of the Infinite
    Gideon
    Glorious End
    Final Fortune
    Phyrexian unlife

In the right shell this card is a power 9.

    • Shadowphex

Phyrexian unlife does not work with this. Platinum Angel does though.

      • Minizem

what? Your argument makes no sense, they do the same thing?

        • Chris Tomsky

Nope. Platinum Angel specifically says you just can’t lose the game, as in can’t lose in anyway. Phyrexian unlife specifically says you don’t lose from having 0 life.

  • Kumrag

Gideon deck running this and everything else that’s bonkers in the set looks good. Maybe an american midrange or control deck. Can abuse emblem to not die and psuedo time walk, or just counter things. Real desperate can disallow this to keep yourself from dying. RW, shove blue in for that new draw spell, as foretold, and disallow of course.

    • ymmij X

      Turn 1 i play a 2/1 turn 2 4/3 turn 3 i skip your turn 4 gids 5 back to glorious end and another 4/3

      • Kumrag

bit risky to run out a 2nd glorious end that quick, since a bolt, or whatever the standard version is, kills it, but if you have 8-12 copies of gideon shouldn’t be an issue

        • ymmij X

well the standard bolt is a madness card right now so many decks wont play it. Shock is more common right now but yes this is a very high risk strategy

  • Deadly Berry

This screams “Use me with Gideon”; which is plausible, since ending the turn also means that you will protect your Planeswalker from attacks.

  • Dr. Burn Crow

This is silly. I’m fond of this. I think i can use this.

  • sith squirrel

in response to my glorius end trigger i cast glorious end any complaints?

    • ymmij X

In response to my glorious end ability i cast disallow.

  • kevin

migth play one copy, you never know
