When Gray Merchant of Asphodel enters the battlefield, each opponent loses X life, where X is your devotion to black. You gain life equal to the life lost this way.

  • Joshua McTiernan

This actually seems kinda good. Not crazy powerful but definitely gonna see some fringe play I think. They givin a lot of tools to mono black.

  • lorescale

new win condition in my chainer edh, next to kokusho and malakir bloodwitch, and it’s a common!

  • Kevan Kramer

A must have if you going monoblack or have lot of black in draft. Maybe monoblack will be a thing now.

  • Zombie

This will probably replace Corrupt or any prominent direct damage in mono- Black.

It does the same thing for less mana, and gives you a body.

    • Chiroptera

Well not exactly though, in mono black you have a higher number of swamps than devotion to black… except if you have 4 dark prophecies in play

      • Zombie

I’d rather have a Kind- of- a- Corrupt on a 2/4 body than Corrupt.

        It’s value at its simplest.

        • Chiroptera

Corrupt is still nice but has to be played later to get the full blown effect, this is a great card to play turn 5

definitively a must have for any mono-black deck right now

  • Andy Dondes

    Should be uncommon

  • Nickerton

Mono-black is looking nice, and at common? Agreeable.

  • richardshort2001

I hereby decree that he shall be called “Gary, Merchant of Asphodel” or simply “Gary” for short.

  • Precious Roy

Wow, I cannot wait to put this in my Balthor EDH deck… Unreal and it is only a common.

  • Tristan Scarbrough

    What’re ya buyin?

    • DeAnthony Grenesko

      I love RE4 haha

  • Joelolly

When Grey Merchant of Asphodel enters the battlefield, does his mana cost count towards the devotion in his ability?

    • Mega B. 326

yes at that point you control him, so he counts his own mana cost

  • Zabadagawa

    Monstrous with relentless rats deck
