Cycling seems counter intuitive here and more of a backup plan to be used in a pinch. Basically glimmer is still the way to go for a 4 mana draw spell

    • prplprince

unless you want to trigger discard/cycle abilities

      • Arran Haigh

Perhaps theres an aggro izzet spells strategy that wants that with drake and hazoret

        • prplprince

also that! So if you’re on the beats you can cycle this for a +1/+0 for your drakes to get in a few points of damage. and like you said at worst you’re missing lands and you cycle this to hit em. I say this is a fine card for control and really good for the spells matter agro strats if thats a thing. But this card will shine in any cycle deck like spawning some drakes for two mana!

    • Together Alone

Except this is a very good cycling card if you have payoffs for it like the sphinx. This then becomes a scry 1, draw one. Or with the demon, a draw 1, -1/-1 counters for all opponents creatures for ONE MANA!

  • the mad seer

so, either you draw one for one mana with discard trigger or draw two for 4, both abilities at instant speed. looks pretty good

    • Tolle

Cycling can’t be countered as easily. Needs something like a stifle. Makes that part slightly better than you described.

  • Matthew Douglas

regardless of if this is strictly better or worse than Glimmer, it will look strictly better in foil

  • Kahai

Will look awesome as a foil. Love it! :D

  • Tolle

I think people are looking at this the wrong way. Instead of seeing it as a 4 mana draw 2 with cycling. Instead. Thing of it as an almost uncounteral 1 mana draw 1 (for deck thinning) that has a secondary option of getting you two cards by paying extra. Almost like a kicker.

    • Random Guy

1 mana thin your deck by 1 is really bad. And no, drawing 1 card is not half of drawing 2 cards. Stull, this could be okay in a few decks.

      • Tolle

        A. It isn’t that bad. It isn’t great but it isn’t as bad as you think it is.
        B. Please do not forget the almost uncounterable as that really helps.
        C. 1 IS half of 2…

        • Alexandre Donnart

Cantrip is not half a draw 2. Think about Card Advantage : with Cycle, you’re replacing a card with another, while you’re actually getting an extra card with a draw 2. So no, in this game and in this case, 1 is not half of 2.

          • Tolle

Yes, but a cantrip doesn’t lose you card advantage. Think of gitaxian probe. Yes, it could be cast for free but on exchange for losing that you get near uncounterability or the option to pay more to get more. Both are valuable effects.

          • Hedronal

You’re drawing half as many cards, but it’s being up 0 or up 1, so not half in terms of card advantage.

          • Tolle

It is half in terms of cards.

          • Hedronal

Cards drawn, not net cards, which is drawn minus spent. Card advantage uses net cards, not just cards drawn.

          • Tolle

Okay, but in the end, card advantage isn’t the most important thing here. This is not that dissimilar to gitaxian probe

          • Hedronal

I was just pointing out the card advantage details. That said, Probe being mana-free is a huge difference.

          • Tolle

It is, and I am not saying it is as good as probe. But considering that A. Probe was so broken it was banned in modern. B. This has the option of gaining you extra card draw. I think the cards are comparable and people are viewing it wrong. Which, if you check, was my initial post

  • the mad seer

i like how it says “the answers are here”. i think it knows what it is supposed to do.

  • Alexandre Donnart

It’s great with the Drake, or anything about instants and sorceries in the grave. Plus anything about cycling and discarding of course. Will be tested in such a deck for sure.
