Why on earth does this have the 2nd clause? It’s a mythic. It would be entirely reasonable with just the first ability /:

With that 2nd clause, it’s mostly unplayable.

    • David

It’s a conspiracy mythic. It doesn’t take up the normal rare spot.

      • Mr.Mayhem631

There’s still standards. The second ability renders it unplayable, but we’ll see.

        • Matt86

Why? What would you want with a sorcery or instant (and in draft, for those, you’d want mostly removal or bounce) when you can just kill your opponent before he or she can cast anything you have to remove? This is perfect for creature-based decks, which tend to do better in draft anyways. Just throw a flyer at your opponent each turn and attack, simple.

        • Zombie

This is the farthest thing from unplayable.

This is instantly pickable for any aggro deck in Draft. Even Pack 1 Pick 1 playable.

          • Mr.Mayhem631

We’ll see. You may be right.

    • Zombie

It’s Mythic because you really, REALLY don’t want someone drafting multiples of these, OR having multiple people in a single pod having one. Mythic rarity isn’t just about really amazing cards with unique or weird abilities, it’s also about Limited.

It’s very much a Mythic-quality card, especially considering the fact that it’s free to use in-game and benefits you with 0 resource investment from Turn 1 for the entire game.

If this were even at Rare, it could single-handedly break the entire Conspiracy 2 draft environment.

  • Khan1104

Sooo this is pretty terrible. its like you start the game with a colorless mox that nerf your entire deck and can only be used sometimes. this could be common and I still would not play it.

    • Happy The Cat

bro, have you seen some of the stuff we’ve gotten this set? plus it will get used every turn seeing as you have no instant and sorceries taking up slots in your deck. if you plan on drafting this set multiple times, at least go for the hymn deck if you get a chance.

    • Evan Dischinger

A all colored medallion, not a mox. Also why would rarity impact play-ability?

  • Kevin Johnstone

Why is this mythic, and why would it be in the command zone, when you cannot use conspiracies in commander LOL, so sh*tty

Also.. does nothing to reduce casting cost of creatures that are base colored mana only… very poor overall.

    Only credit given, great art!

    • Dominic Ng

All conspiracies are used in the command zone.

    • Jazzyboy1

The command zone is generally used for anything that’s meant to be in play but doesn’t fit in any other zone, e.g. conspiracies, planes, emblems, vanguards, and schemes.

    • David

You might be the most ignorant wannabe magic player ever

    • Mr.Mayhem631

      Good job not understanding Conspiracys?

    • Evan Dischinger

Worth the mythic on the art alone.

  • chad

conspiracies are legal in commander since it is not a recognized “constructed format” by WOTC

    • Mr.Mayhem631

      Not true.
First of all, it is recognised by Wizards- you can even do it for FNM.
      Second, they’re banned.
Third, they’re all only usable in the Conspiracy Draft and Cube formats per comp rule 313.1.

      • chad

why did they ban worldknit then, especially if their banned? don’t see a
reason to ban a card that cant be played in the format. I think it is
funny that people go by this “ban list” when its up to the individuals
who play at a shop. the shop does not get to decide what is banned the
players decide, people who have gone by this ban list that
duelcommander, com are not a wizards company and therefor are not
legally able to ban any card unless wizards deems it. If you dont
believe me go to their site their first line is…

We’re a group of Commander players and/or TOs.

        • Mr.Mayhem631

Same reason all the conspiracies are banned in Vintage and Legacy, which you can’t say aren’t recognised- completeness.

And since they created the format, they can ban whatever they want, and Wizards will recognize it. Wizards doesn’t control the EDH banlist. The EDH banlist on Magic’s website is copied from the official EDH site.

Now, Duel Commander is a separate issue, which is not officially recognized by Wizards as far as I know, but again they control the banlist for the format they created.

Your original statement was just false in a multitude of ways. You cannot play Conspiracies due to game rules and banning, regardless of whether Wizards recognizes the format (and it does, so it’s a moot point).

          • chad

Not all the cards on the ban list are on wizards site. If you want them to have control over your games go for it, as for our entire city we don’t recognize them as “official” and we sanction all our events notifying wizards that we do not follow those guys’ ban list and so far no problems. We (the magic community) should strive to be creative and not ban every card that we don’t like or can’t deal with. that’s what is becoming of commander by allowing these guys to control your creativity, so my point is made…gg

          • Mr.Mayhem631

Okay, but be aware that that’s the official banlist you’re ignoring.

And regardless of anything else, I don’t really care about your feelings on the EDH banlist, my point was really (I’ll sum it up simply) you were wrong, Conspiracies cannot be played in Commander or any constructed format.

          • Evan Dischinger

No ones saying that you need to follow the list. We are just saying your original statement is wrong.

    • Jazzyboy1

Conspiracies aren’t useable outside draft and cube, unless your playgroup specifically allows them for your casual EDH games. However, it would be rather foolish to do so because it would just break the game. Conspiracies are meant to be luck-of-the-draw drafted cards which improve your deck without having to pay any in-game costs for them. If you could use them in a constructed format, you could just buy and run them all without any restrictions.

      • chad

  • Vegard Kivle

Why does it not have the new colorless manasymbol?

    • Guest

Because this reduces the cost by 1 generic mana not 1 colourless mana….

      • Vegard Kivle

Ahh! Right. Didn’t think of that.

  • Zombie

I hope y’all realize how ridiculous this is for an aggro strategy in Draft.

Lowering your entire curve by 1 mana across the board means you improve your deck’s kill timer by a full turn at least, simply by drafting this card.

Small price to pay for not being able to play the very few instants or sorceries you would want anyway.

This is 100% Cube material (If you’re running a Cube that includes Conspiracies that is).

    • Happy The Cat

I just want to get this and Sovereign’s Realm in the same draft deck. 40 creatures, no fear. deck might not even be that good but it will probably be fun as heck to play.

      • Tzenmoroth

Not that good? This and Sovereign’s Realm are going to be picked over Black Lotus. That deck would create games where the opponent mulligans to 2 just to hit Pithing Needle.

        • Happy The Cat

they are great cards but together they wouldn’t be that good. they would just work against each other, starting at five cards puts the aggro deck Hymn wants rather far behind, and even further when they have to exile cards from their hand to get lands. on the flipside hymn gets rid of the removal that Realm wants in it’s control builds. if you can get the tempo deck that works with both of these you will probably win most every game. also if you do try to play this deck you are going to need all but five cards be permanents, that’s kind of hard to do.

  • Happy The Cat

with the horde of wonderfully nasty creatures we’ve gotten from this set this could lead to some nasty decks, so far the only good instants and sorceries are at least rare besides Visions and a (literal) Garbage burn.spell. this might even be good enough that if you get passed in in pack three you can run it. naturally this card is going to be great with certain aggro builds that just throw what they can out, but tempo and midrange decks get to move their builds up several turns. this one card can take a rather mediocre draft and turn it into a fast aggressive tempo. Unless you were trying to draft the Arcane Savant deck, this card should be a rather good pickup for you.

  • Jakob Schneider

This could be a hilariously powerful card to include in a Cube.

Simultaneously, I think it could also be slipped into the right Cube without being broken.
