• Sean Harp

Damn it jace what did you do

    • Marvin Sürig

It’s hard to tell. Maybe he took her memory about what happens to the Golgari and decided to let them rot while their most powerful member forgotten about their guild. Maybe he only erased the part about Nicol Bolas so that they won’t have to fight about it and helps her on Ravnica.

      • Pocketfulofgeek

Vraska and Jace have a talk, and he shows her what Bolas really is. So to protect Ixalan and herself, she asks Jace to erase everything to do with Ixalan and him from her memory.

        • E.

I was sad when I saw the art and name of the card. I’m not sure if knowing what you’ve said makes it even sadder or not…

          • Hedronal

I’d say so. Noble sad. She’s sacrificing one of her very few real friendships for the good of all that.

      • Xonox

its in the artbook spoiler. he erased her memory about him and ravnica, so nicol bolas wouldnt destroy it.

        • Marvin Sürig

Then it was a nice thing to do.

    • Cory Matthew

The art book leaks explained it. He got his memories back, but instead of killing her, he had to erase Vraskas memory so Bolas didn’t kill her basically. He loves her and sacrificed their time together so she would be spared. Tezzeret got what they needed from the plane anyways.

  • Marvin Sürig

I like the Idea of the forced Card draw. Imagine bouncing your opponents stuff, then Exil it and let him draw so much that he/she can’t play everything while you still have enough mana for some nice control.
Flicker it with the trigger on the Stack and the cards stay in exil.
I like the Artwork. The story behind it is somehow questionable. I mean he basicly magic roofied Vraska. And the card design (Cost ability Type etc.) is pretty swear.

    • Pocketfulofgeek

Jace looks pretty upset in this artwork. There’s no malice here, he’s pretty upset about what he’s doing here which reflects the story quite well (Vraska asks for this to protect both Ixalan andherself from Bolas’ mental reaping abilities).

    • TezzeretofCarmot21

In the art book it says that he had to do it so that Bolas would not kill her. Depressing.

  • TezzeretofCarmot21

if you “erase” this… they’ll never get it back! It says put in graveyard!

    • TezzeretofCarmot21

Also, does it say “Story Spotlight: 2/3”? Oh gee, there are only three? This set is really lazy

    • Happy The Cat

but they still draw a new hand thanks to this card, now if you have Notion Thief out, then it’s a different story.

      • TezzeretofCarmot21

Aye fair point. Esper trolling would work.

  • Pocketfulofgeek

… Is this as funny in Brago EDH as I think it could be?

    • BusinessmanGinger

      Oh absolutely :))))

    • Peter Johnston

Put into the graveyard, not leave the battlefield. Sorry.

      • Pocketfulofgeek

        Gah, of course it is.

Actually wait, that makes it better! Flicker it and they never get it back as it’s technically a new instance of the card?

  • Mathos

So, target yourself, feed it to Auratog, double your hand size.

    • Random Guy

      Modern-viable imo.

      • Alexandre Donnart

It is viable, casually of course. I have a Modern deck with Auratog, Perilous Research, Hatching Plans
and a bunch of cards related to enchantments like Herald of the Pantheon. It works. And this card
        just fits in perfectly.

        • Random Guy

Probably some SSGs and the like? You have to have some way to spend the cards fast in Modern.

          • Alexandre Donnart

Why SSG ? It’s a Bant deck and you don’t need this kind of card in a deck like this. Herald ramps your enchantments, Hierarch too, Detention Sphere / Chained to the Rocks …

    • Shagoth

This needs to be a deck.
Angelic Purge could be some solid removal, perilous research allows you to draw more.
There also needs to be some other synergies and combos for something great to sacrifice for consistencies sake, like Hatching Plans.

  • dannyrevv

so demystify this in response to the exile trigger, and just exile someones hand right?

    • Chuck

… and he draws that many cards. The swap of cards is one single action.

      • dannyrevv

aah, gotcha, still could be useful after you duress or kitesail someone and they have a scarab god sitting in their hand

  • Falconfly

Good, sink that ship deeper than the Lusitania.

    • TezzeretofCarmot21

Why must you hate true love

  • Happy The Cat

I mean I’m just gonna point out two card interactions. 1 Starfield of Nyx revives an enchantment every turn. 2 this falls under Sun Titan’s “target permanent card with converted mana cost 3 or less” clause.

    • Tolle

Issue is to get it in the graveyard in the first place. There aren’t many enchantment sac outlets and almost none that are good

      • Happy The Cat

well, I’m playing Starfield so Goblin Bombardment works, why not USA Starfield, aka stars and stripes? NArset as the commander, #makeamericagreatagain

        • Tolle

You’d probably do better with the gays as your commander, Narset draws too much hate. The thing for this deck is to make sure you have something to do with the card until you draw starfield of nix and goblin bombardment

          • Happy The Cat

Well, I’m just throwing it in as an optional engine, it’s just going to be a good way for a decent control commander to flood their hand. I’m not spending all of my resources on doubling my hand size every turn. I’ve already tried Wheel effects and the like with Narset, they generally turn out well, and not risking wheeling my opponents into better options is a plus.
As for other commanders, I could try the Gays of Meletis, but they feel a bit too group huggy to be forcing Starfield, maybe if you have a pillowfort you could lead into some crazy shenanigans. maybe Zedruu could work, since she is pretty control heavy and could benefit from a one person wheel, not to mention this card can be gifted since it doesn’t really do anything on board. but I’m not sure if, again, Oprah could pull off starfield when relying on hugging the group so much.

          • Tolle

If you are going for just a wheel in narset I’d leave out the other two cards.

And the gays can be group huggy, but so can Zedruu. The gays work really well in a control/pillow forty deck with heavy enchantment themes which works really well with what you described.

  • David S. McCrae

    Notion Thief + This.

    You’re Welcome.

    • Tolle

      Now that looks like fun.

  • Shagoth

    Thanks to @Mathos, I got a brew.
He started it by “So, target yourself, feed it to Auratog, double your hand size.”
But, I have a few ideas to make the deck more consistent like Angelic Purge could be some solid removal, perilous research allows you to draw more and sacrifice a permanent.

There also needs to be some other synergies and combos for something great to sacrifice for consistencies sake, like Hatching Plans.
Now what would the win con be?

    • David S. McCrae

      Hedron Alignment. <..>
And Even if the Hedron Alignment is Face-Down in Exile, it still counts O.O

      • Shagoth

        We must get deeper.

        • David S. McCrae

          Serum Powder for Pre-game digging.
Ordeal of Thassa, Sacrifice to Auratog.
          Anything to “Flicker” Enchantments.

          • Shagoth

I think the flicker cards might not work because they require graveyard.

          • David S. McCrae

Oh snap, you’re right. It will leave the old hand behind, but you still dig deeper into the deck. I guess that’s where Pull From Eternity can come in, too.

How about Misthollow Griffin and Eternal Scourge. You Exile them, then you cast them anyway!

          • Shagoth

Maybe getting to the point of slight unreliability. That is a lot of stuff going on. I think I like Hedron Allignment Control.

          • David S. McCrae

            Yeah, probably :D

      • David Meyers

Pull from Eternity only works on face-up exiles. Eldrazi processor cards might work if you screw up, though :)

  • me

    Buy you Phantatogs now!

  • mtg_thoughtz

    almost like “Hatching Plans”

  • Chris Tomsky

This should have said opponent, not player. I would love to play this on myself, draw a new hand, sacrifice it, then get my old hand back too.

    • Bostorket

Was kinda my thought too. Seems it’d go well with Abjure or Perilous Research.

  • Murilo Mazza

    nice with Hour of Revelation?

    • Hedronal

Thanks for reminding me of that card. It seems balanced out to counter Ascend if you can get it off first. Then again, nonland does a lot against that idea.

  • galen150

what happens if you destroy it with the first trigger on the stack? would it try to return the cards before their exiled, fail, and then exile their hand?

edit: also, this seems really bad except in very specific situations or if you abuse it to draw cards

    • Alexandre Donnart

It fails to return any cards, then exiles their hand and they draw that many cards.

And yes, it’s obviously a combo piece. You need to sacrifice it to abuse it.

    • Chuck

Yes, it would try to return the cards that haven’t been exiled yet… and yes their hand would then be exiled… and finally he would draw a new hand of cards.

  • Hedronal

Does that say “Story Spotlight 2/3”? There’s less this set?
