Keranos, God of Storms Art

  • Jim

I can’t wait to get this

  • GooberMcGee

I hope it gives storm to everything! At least all instant and sorceries!

  • GRUULman

    …… O.o

    F yes!

  • welan

Not strong on red blue but love the art.
I think it could be something like copying a spell or a sorcery you cast. Maybe at the cost of a creature.

  • Zombie

Well, at least his mana cost is good. If he was 3UR, it would have been a bit harder to get behind.

But at least he’s aggressively costed.

However, unless his ability is strong enough, he’s not going to see much play outside of RUG Monsters (Maybe.) Control decks just don’t have the leeway to drop 4 mana on a God that probably won’t ever become a creature.

Which means that if he has a control based ability, he likely won’t see any play in Standard.

  • Anthony Bartolomey

Mock 5/6 devotion 7. Whenever you play a creature spell do 3 damage to target creature or player.

    • RoboticCoffeeBean

To similar to mogis and purphoros.

    • Zombie

That’s just a strictly worse Purphoros… Not gonna be anything like that.

  • RoboticCoffeeBean

So, Ares, as the god of war, is broken into two minotaur counterparts, Iroas and Mogis. What about Zeus, is he represented as the king of the gods by heliod, and the lightning god by Keranos. Both seem Zeusy to me.

    • Shadow921

ares is more like mogis while iroas could represent athena

      • Robert Kupper

Its not a clear split like that. Theros gods are all a mish-mash of greek ones. Athena is certainly represented some in Iroas… but also strongly in Ephara. Zeus is Heliod of course… but also Keranos. Heliod is also obviously Apollo. Each theros god has ideas and domains from several gods, they aren’t one for one.

  • kmk888

Best art so far in JiN. Based on the flavor and hints by Wizards, probably has to do with scry and direct damage.

  • Hunter Myles

all your instants and sorceries have storm? please.

  • HM5555

mock 5/6 devotion 7, when ever you play a spell you may pay a red mana and this creature deals 3 damage to target creature or player.

    • David Fitzsimmons

DANG you got CLOSE and only 6 hours before the official reveal. Got the 3 damage right and just need to reverse your power/toughness

  • Cicsero

5/6 Indestructible As long as your devotion to blue and red is less than seven, Keranos isn’t a creature. Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, flip a coin, if you win, draw two cards. Whenever you cast a creature spell or enchantment, flip a coin, if you win, Keranos deals 3 damage to target creature or player.

    • David Fitzsimmons

Man just 2 hours before it got officially revealed and you guessed that it had a random element and allowed card drawing and damaging the opponent for 3. Also got the power/toughness reversed.

  • leeoftheswift

    perfect for scry……. wow

  • DInner

    better than sylvan library

    • Whiskerbro

Who let the troll out of his pen again?

  • James McElwain

:D Seems super brewy, I love it. Gonna try and fit it in my RUG Monsters deck!

  • Anthony Bartolomey

I do like this card, but not in love with it. If it applied to cards played it could trigger more then once a turn.

  • Josh Kaufman

This is the first card I really like from this set. I think it has a place in RWU control since UW control needs a 5 drop, and it’s a win-con outside of Elspeth and aetherling. I can see playing this alongside some warleaders helix’s and turn and burn’s.

  • Tank Johnson

American Control!!!! Ahhhh! I run uwr control with Elspeth and Assemble the legions for my won con.. this makes it spicy

  • Robert Kupper

Now that’s a god. Looks and feels UR to me! Either draw a card or burn each turn? I think the place for this is either grixis or maybe just red burn with some blue splashed. It’ll stop you from losing steam. I don’t see much value for america control, since they will struggle with devotion to make it a creature, and running out of steam isn’t a problem for them.

    • Kevan Kramer

You don’t need this to be a creature for it to be good.

      • Robert Kupper

The effect is cool, I am not saying its bad in the least, but it costs 5. I am just not sure its worth it at that point for a control deck. Its not a game ender, you know?

  • Zombie

So… I was wrong about the potential for disappointment.

    This. Is. AMAZING.

RUG monsters just became completely insane. Grixis and UWR control as well.

    • Kevan Kramer

Good for standard the question is…does it play well in legacy or modern?

      • Zombie

        Doesn’t need to.

It’s insane in EDH and will be sick in Standard.

  • Colin van der Voort

    And UWR is back :D

  • Josh Kaufman

Me and my team tested this card in RWU as a third win-con and it was extremely strong. Turn and burn is still great, warleaders helix is quality stuff, Elspeth and Aetherling are still the main win cons but using this to draw excess lands or bolt things was extremely useful.

And showing my opponents what cards I am drawing doesn’t matter since thoughtseize is all over the place anyway.

I really like this card, and that’s the first time I’ve said this about anything from the Theros block, and I think this will be the second most expensive card in the set behind Ajani.

  • GreatCrow

    Woah…helloooooo, future UR general!

  • Dr. Storm Crow

I was going to use Niv-Mizzet the Firemind for my commander deck. Now…now I’m still using Niv, but this will be a good friend.

    • GRUULman

  • Whiskerbro

Use with Thassa. And the awesome starfish.

  • 3dhBlasph3my

If you get dead draws with this guy in your deck, you’re doing it wrong
