-3: Destroy target creature with a -1/-1 counter on it

-10: Return all creature cards from your graveyard to the battlefield

  • Jayden Deabay

a seven drop with a minus one minus one counter? hope she has four ability’s.

    • Minizem

      she has three.

  • Dr. Burn Crow

Boy, this will probably be hot garbage. -earmarks a 20 for her planeswalker deck and some Taco Bell-

    • Happy The Cat

garbage? what? all we know is she costs a ton of mana and so far all she can do is put a -1/-1 counter on one creature at a time. how could you call those numbers garbage based on the duel decks history so far?

      • mehngo

A +2 that puts a single -1/-1 on for seven mana is hot steamy garbage. It’s hard to justify running it even if it has a killer minus ability, just off mana cost alone.

        • Happy The Cat
          • mehngo

You must be really bad at sarcasm/jokes, then.

          • Kaiser

well PWs of the PWs deck should not be playables in standard, so she demands a weak “+” for get a stronger “-“s lets see what happen with this little one.

          • mehngo

Even if that is true, it still doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s inherently weak.

        • Minizem

You don’t even know how much loyalty she starts with. Just wait for the full spoil before you judge it.

          • mehngo

Starting loyalty doesn’t change the fact that it’s an inherently weak ability considering the mana investment. Having a top-end walker that just puts a -1/-1 counter on a creature is weak. I’m just working off of what we have of course, but it would take a lot to make this card worth running.

          • Minizem

Yeah, like if she has some crazy minus ability or a moderate one that she could use twice without dying. We’ll just have to see.

        • Daniel Poirier

I question the accuracy. It’s been a while since wizards did -1 counters

      • Dr. Burn Crow

Listen, if she makes at least a zombie token, I’m happy.

        • Happy The Cat

she’ll probably get an emblem that says “every turn put your dead creatures back on the board” to compensate for the lack luster +2. but I dont see her getting tokens, would be a lot more previously dead stuff in the art based on past experiences.

  • Cthulhooo

Her minus better tutor some cards, blow up entire board, put zombies on the table and do my laundry simultaneously for that cost and laughable +2.

    • Han Solo II

I am gonna get one if it can do my laundry!

    • Rovkir Hexus

It’s the intro pack Liliana, so not going to be super powerful.

  • Dr. Burn Crow

GUYS, WHAT IF UNDYING IS COMING BACK?!?!
Undying gives +1/+1 counters for a revive but only triggers without any +1/+1 counters. A -1/-1 counter, according to rules, negates the +1/+1 counter. So, Lili here lets a fella with undying come back over and over and over again.
It’s jank, but also playable with that in mind.
Run it in a Mikaeus the Unhallowed deck and enjoy some shenanigans.

    • Guest

Wizards would never print +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters in the same block, because board states get too confusing tracking which creatures have which counters.

      • Dr. Burn Crow

It’s not that hard, though. Official ruling is that the counters cancel each other out. So if you have three plus counters and introduce a minus counter, you simply have two plus counters.

        • Guest

Yes, +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters interact that way, but wizards (MaRo) themself have stated they won’t put them together in a block. Imagine you have two creatures with the same name on the battlefield, both with counters on them, how do you reliably tell which had the +1/+1’s and the -1/-1’s?

          • Dr. Burn Crow

            Red markers and blue markers.

          • Dr. Burn Crow

In any case, I’m probably going to get her deck because I can abuse her and Mikaeus the Unhallowed super hard and that appeals to me strongly.

          • mehngo

Dice? It’s up to the players to figure out how to keep track of this stuff, and dice has been the most popular answer to that question.

    • Ultramegalord

      Persist?

      • Dr. Burn Crow

        No, undying.

  • Winter Trabex

The CMC is ridiculous. Better have 4 abilities.

    • bla bla RTFC man

Can’t have 4 abilities. box is to small. Also its an Intro pack walker. They would never give a bad card 4 abilities.

  • Urdothor

Isn’t this the planeswalker from the duel deck? So, We’ll be getting a *hopefully* good Liliana later.

  • alexander macrae

Is that seven CMC and terrible +2 ability really confirmed though? If so . . . wow. I know they wanted these planeswalker cards to be for casual, but . . . wow. I had really hoped they wouldn’t waste such good art.

  • Deadly Berry

Considering the 7cmc, she better ETB with 10 counters, because that +2 is plain terrible. Maybe she will have a minus ability that allows you to gain control of a creature with a -1/-1 counter upon death, since her name is “Death’s Manipulator”. As for the art, it is quite beautiful and I don’t say this often, kudos to the artist.

    • Marvin Sürig

I guess that she can reanimate quite easily for her small minus ability. And have some beefy starting loyalty. I mean if she had 8 Loyalty and an ability like “[-X]: Return any number of creature cards with total converted Manacost of X or less and put them into play” she would be quite strong because she can build up a hell of an defense. I mean with that ability she can even has less Loyalty because 4 Ornthipters as a 0 Ability would be strong as hell xD.

  • Bige Boiy

guys who cares about how strong an intro pack walker is. this card confirms that amonkhet is a -1/-1 counter block!

    • Hedronal

Or just something Lili does. While it looks like it could and maybe even will be -1/-1 counter related, it’s still too soon to tell.

  • Kevan Kramer

If this is true, hopefully she has a -X ability that puts X -1/-1 counters on all creatures or only creatures your opponents control.

  • Julna Buras

I really don’t get why everyone seems so up in arms over this. It’s the planeswalker deck walker, and if the previous four have been any indication, she’s not going to see much play outside introductions into the game anyway. So why are we arguing over how good she is?

    • Scathain

Because its really silly to print a planeswalker who isn’t even usable casually (unlike the others printed thusfar, that can at least be used casually).

  • Xander Arens

If you look closely at her Art you’ll see that there is Zombies around her same as Liliana, the Last Hope.

I really hope there Zombies that make even stronger the Tribe before and this Planeswalker is stuck there with help!

But high costs.. ‘m curious but my baby Liliana, Gideon, Nissa and Nicol Bolas coming back and that is awesome #Can’t Wait!
And the new Art which they give to Liliana is a word, wonderful worthy!

  • Shagoth

You know, that plus ability is pretty bad, then again we’ve seen plenty of bad abilities but they were good because of how cheap the planeswalker was.

I thought you guys wanted these cards for casuals, not to insult them. Seven mana? I usually dis planeswalkers for not being competitive, not for being bad, atrocious, god awful cards. What creature are you going to use that ability on when you have seven mana? This could end up being one of the top 75 worst cards ever depending on the other two abilities.

  • Tim Lee

Personally I find this card to be remarkably weak based solely on her +2 and her mana cost. If she has a
powerful ultimate to make up for her weak +2 I am ok but still probably not great.

    • Jacob Kodicovic

“Personally, I find this card to be remarkably weak based solely on her +2 and mana cost.”
That’s not a very good way to judge planeswalkers.

  • Robert FakeLastName

Her picture seems oddly matronly. Maybe I am just seeing things, but I just have that feeling when I see her depicted here.

  • Jacob Kodicovic

You guys all seem to be missing the obvious hint here: Amonkhet is going to have a -1/-1 counter theme. That means we could see the return of mechanics such as persist and… oh no. No no no no no. Infect. May the gods of Amonkhet have mercy on us.

    • Insight66

It’ll be wither, don’t worry. I think they’d save infect for a return to Phyrexia.

      • Vizzerdrix

If ever yes, I feel like infect in general was a slight mistake so if they do bring it back I would expect either more like poisonous or a similar mechanic that’s a little more fair

        • WarbossEfan

the wither mechanic is more likely if -1/-1 counters will be a thing, if not proliferate. proliferate in general might be most appropriate due to the whole thing with bolas and tezzeret wanting their godlike powers back, so a mechanic reflecting that by being able to add more loyalty counters could make sense.

or maybe its just a weird thing they threw in there to make it different and i’m just getting too excited for counter play…

      • i am probably not a person

considering that the set symbol for hour of devastation is still unknown it could have information related to a phyrexian set. this is similar to the way Emrakul was the set symbol for Eldritch Moon.

  • Phatman24

    Who is the artist?

    • CnBCustoms

      Clint Cearley.

  • 3BlackMana

Attention MTG, Why Does Black Get -1 loyalty Counter for doing Black type Things…. You should punish the other colors -1) for doing abllitys that come natural to their colors instead of rewarding them for their color ablitys but not black? Who’s with me on this, Red had been creature screwed starting since after 5th edition, blue has to pay over 5 mana for a decent size creature (with some evasion ablity, But Green,.White seem to share similar spells and not many supposed colors faults (IE white small creatures, Green No Flying or Reach?) I am just sick of black planeswalkers overpriced mana CC (Like we have a Dark Ritual in everyhand for every card we need to Cast) For very little main Black ablity. I think ill Rather Boycott this set until MTG has more balanced their Color Wheel instead of being One Sided because Richard Garflied Couldn’t stand Loosing too his Friend Jon Finkel and Us Black, Blue and Red player get Trerible Mythics, Rares every Set they Produce Since after Urza’s Destiny!

    • Giby86 .

Dude. Relax. This is from the planeswalker deck, it’s designed to be overpriced garbage. Also Urza’s Destiny was one of the worst sets of this game from a design and balance point of view. And also blue ALWAYS gets the best card in every cycle, as much as they try to avoid it.

    • raziel11

mark rosewater took reigns of head designer, and even though he tries to hate on blue it still always winds up being obnoxiously powerful. did you miss standard? kaladesh and aether revolt standard was dominated by blue/red, blue/red/white, a quad color or to, and smaller lgs sized metas that featured blue+something else. black seems to always be the splashy edh color (along with blue for big creatures and win conditions) and red has been very burn heavy since 99ish, not to mention all 3 of these are the crosis colors (i.e: bolas) so we will probably get a really janky broken bolas who has a high casting cost but some stupid abilities that guarantee him spots in stall legacy or ramp legacy decks, all crosis edh, and standard if this set has enough black or red mana ramp (or they could use oracle’s vault which will certainly be a edh win condition enabler) this is a bolas plane, we are getting a splashy edh centric set. get over it.

  • Liliana, Death Weilder – 5BB
+2: Put a -1/-1 counter on up to one target creature
-3: Destroy target creature with a -1/-1 counter on it
-10: Return all creature cards from your graveyard to the battlefield

  • Scathain

Wait, -3 for a highly conditional kill ability on a 7 drop planeswalker? With a mediocre +2 ability (albeit one that sets up the -3)? I get that this is supposed to be a bit weak, but this is really excessive. They could easily have printed her as a 5 mana planeswalker, there is no good reason why she should cost more mana than Sorin Markov. Just 2 more mana and you can cast Rise of the Dark Realms, and put her ultimate to shame, so even her ultimate is relatively unimpressive for her cost. I nominate her for worst planeswalker of all time, and I normally like Liliana.

    • That Guy

Hopefully she starts at a high loyalty to make it easy to ult her. If she doesn’t, then i completely agree.

    • Uncertain Title

I’m willing to bet her deck is centered around -1/-1 counters, thus making her second ability a lot more usable.
Seven mana for those abilities, though…..

  • Soren Szilver

i think this is the worse liliana card so far. all the others are ‘pretty good’ at worst and usually cheaper mana wise, but this one is very meh, at best

  • Derek Niles

She better come out with like 8 loyality to make this any good lol

  • Dr. Burn Crow

So Liliana is essentially Bounty Hunter now? I may be the only person who doesn’t outright hate this.

  • David Whitmore

Oh no. they made a bad liliana. The fan boys will weep now. Boo hoo :<

In fact, I hope there isn't another Main Set Liliana too. Because I'm tired of the obvious preferences for angsty hot chicks to pander to the neckbeards who want lezbo lili and chandra. :| Ya'll cut it out.

Honestly it's about time they made a BAD Liliana.

    • Dr. Burn Crow

      Someone is projecting

      • David Whitmore

        Hurr clever boy.

        • Dr. Burn Crow

          Solid comeback.

          • David Whitmore

Why thank you. I spent some few seconds thinking it up. :)

    • raziel11

seems like the mtg stories are favoring nissa x chandra my man

      • Shagoth

Don’t they know opposites attract? Why can’t they ship the bland, 1dimensional characters with characters who compliment them opposed to blandies who make them even more bland and don’t have to branch out or make them grow as characters? Now my (b)o(red)ts are ruined!

        • raziel11

tbh i don’t understand what you just said.

          • Shagoth

Stupid rant on my part, but what I said was that the romance kind of sucks by pairing characters who have almost the same strengths and weaknesses, so you get a couple that’s almost as boring as the characters themselves.

    • Polis_Ohio

It’s bad because it’s in a duel deck.

  • Angrygnome

Everyone realizes that this is the Planeswalker Deck Lili, right?

  • Happy The Cat

well, maybe there is a -1/-1 counter sub theme for black, but this lili probably isn’t going to leave this plane. which is good, cause she already has way too many op cards.

  • Deadly Berry

Everyone is like “AMG worst Lily EVAR”… if her loyalty turns out to be 8 or so then everyone will be like “AMG why is she so GUD?!?!”
Keep in mind guys, we still don’t know how many effects we will have that will put -1 counters on enemy creatures.

    • Shagoth

      Lol it’s five.
It wouldn’t even be amazing at 8.
Easily the worst Planeswalker ever. Doesn’t hurt as much as Tibalt because with him we had expectations.

  • Kameenook

She enters with five loyalty, watch the amonkhet trailer.

  • Dr. Burn Crow

Not super great, but I’d still run it.

  • Benjo Sian

only a few people will understand this that liliana is a balance planeswalker here you know why ?
because shes a planeswalker deck means you can get her guaranteed if you buy the planeswalker deck and after april i will see a lot of players using liliana deaths manipulator running on their decks -_-
