• Happy The Cat

the implied shenanigans with Howling Mine and the like just means that this guy will see edh but that activation cost is just too high to see play anywhere else.

    • Jakob Schneider

I’m afraid you’re pretty much on point… the activation is too expensive (also since you need at least one other artifact for it to do anything al all).
While the topdeck skimming can be pretty powerful, it’s usually a win-more if you can afford to tap that many artifacts for that.

      • Happy The Cat

well, you can always use this at the end of an opponent’s turn, even just tapping one artifact would be good enough as just a longly worded draw effect. if it sees play outside of edh it will be because it’s a colorless one mana 1/2 that isnt completly useless in the late game.

        • Alex Egertsen

vintage Mud will love to use this.

    • DJ Pad

Don’t forget cards like static orb, winter orb etc.

  • Jakob Schneider

FOUR mana [including blue] AND tapping another artifact seems pretty steep for the card advantage.

Being a colorless 1/2 one-drop also shows some mild powercreep.

Though at the very least, this seems good in limited. (Since it can even block 1/1s and do its thing in limited)

    • Nate Winchester

Could be fun with a big investigate deck.

    • Bostorket

I think it being a 1/2 for 1 (without defender!) is extremely relevant. Add generalized artifact synergy, construct synergy (seems to be a growing thing), and a handy mid/late game ability makes for one very utilitous card with promise.

      • Jakob Schneider

Yeah, at the very least, it will be powerful in limited.
I’m not sure if there will be any decks in constructed (outside of EDH) that will be able to profit sufficiently from that.

  • Zombie

Squires with upside usually still aren’t enough, but it’s a cool card.

  • Derek Niles

I like it in my artifact EDH deck but its not crazy or anything

  • Shagoth

Treasure Trove, my god you have fallen. Thrasios, An Eldrazi Blue Squire, that two drop wizard that you pay four to draw a card, now this dude. A charming and likeable dude I might add. Boy I know it won’t happen, but I want him to see play.

  • Nebulium

This guy isn’t a squire. Squire are expensive. This thing is a sanctuary cat. A robot sanctuary cat.
