Nivmagus Elemental - Return to Ravnica Spoiler

Nivmagus Elemental

Exile an instant or sorcery spell you control: Put two +1/+1 counters on Nivmagus Elemental.

When it escaped, the experimenters hesitated. It would cause untold havoc, yet they wished to see it in action.

  • YouGotFranked

Arf it only it was “counter” rather than “exile” I could have played this in my Burning vengeance deck. Anyway works very well with Talrand, Sky Summoner.

  • Tripbolt17

potential 5/6 on turn two? i still don’t know though about exiling two spells..

    • OnIIcE

how did you get it to 5/6?

      • OnIIcE

nvm, didn’t see it was 2 counters! =o

    • Kjnkln

turn two gutshot gutshot gutshot gutshot….

      • Grfgdzhbdz

        or turn 1

  • Guest

Goes well with Snapcaster and anything that has Flashback.

  • guyfarting

Can you exile copies made with replicate?

    • Guy

      Yes

      • guyfarting

Sweet. Shattering Spree your own artifact repeatedly, then exile all of them. xD

  • Church

So the question now is when do you control an instant or sorcery? Example: Do you control the instants/sorceries in your graveyard that has flashback? Or is it just when you’re casting them?

    • YouGotFranked

when you cast an instant or sorcery, it gets into the stack until it resolves. This is when you can use this card’s ability.

      • Church

I figured as much, but it didn’t hurt to ask.

    • BWH

It says an instant or sorcery SPELL.  It’s only a spell while it’s on the
      stack.

  • Turnip

Amazing! Pump it when one of your own spells faces a counter!

  • Steve

hybrid one mana 1/2, and thats not all

  • Daniel989

if you cast mana leak, and your opponent pay 3, u can exile the mana leak with
    Nivmagus Elemental?

    • GreyMan820

nah cause that would mean mana leak resolved

      • Wisdomseyes

You can however, have your opponent cast mana leak and you exile your own spell on the stack to fizzle mana leak and get some benefit from the spell that would have otherwise become useless to you.

  • Pascal Vesper

even Without the effect pretty solid 1drop with 1/2

  • Pickles

does the effect work with storm?

    • Droideka22

      Yes, beautifully

  • BaronVengeous

With all the “when you cast instant/sorcery” effects around (not necessarily in standard), it won’t really matter that you don’t get the spell, you’re still getting loads of benefits out of it anyway.

Regardless of what anyone else says, I’ll be playing this in Modern with Kiln Fiend, the new Guttersnipe, and all the Phyrexian Mana stuff.

  • Tezzim-Vin

    It really should’ve been a Weird :)

  • indes

This card is going to get huge with Epic Experiment.

  • Darthwaluigi

Has anyone else thought to pair this with an Ink-Treader Nephilim?
