• Dr. Burn Crow

Hahaha, what??? A third??? Heckin weird.

    • Nebulium

If that flavor text doesn’t say something about pox, I’m gonna be disappoint.

      • Hedronal

        Kind of does.

    • Alex

Hidegutsu is pretty easy at rounding a half, now everyone has to get ready to do some mental math.

      • Tolle

Isn’t there a calculator on your phone?

        • Alex

A little mental rounding will be good exercise for the ol’ Gray Matter Calculatron Mk.I!

  • Nebulium

Oh, I like that menace deathtouch. You can’t get much more obvious than just saying “this card is a two for one.”

  • theEternalPilgrims

    Also, its a 4/4 for 5.

  • Deadly Berry

    Nekusar accepts this offering.

  • Jacob Kodicovic

It’s flavor text is “Sorry for not giving you Heartless Hidetsugu. Here’s some ogres”

    • Tezzybros

Actually it’s an Orc. Orc rakdos tribal may be a thing.

  • Bostorket

“Just a little off the top…”

  • Jude

HI MY NAME IS INALLA. EVER THOUGHT OF BEING WIZARD TRIBAL?

  • Andrea Lanzoni

    I’LL HAVE 4 OF THEM

  • chataolauj

First Strike instead of Menace would be nice, but that would be pushing it too much.

    • galen150

first strike and death touch together would be too strong on a 5 drop 4/4. you’d have to block with 5 creatures to have a hope of killing it (barring the other player having a first striker as well) when it swings since you can assign 1 damage to each and deathtouch would do the rest. with menace, you still need 2 in order to block and kill it.

    • mehngo

That 100% is pushing way too hard. Menace with DT ensures that most of the time that it takes at least two things with it in combat.

    • Shagoth

Are people seriously saying that wizards wouldn’t put death touch/first strike on a flavorfully boring mythic? If it isn’t a giant monster or a weird effect (granted this one has it), a mythic could be above the curve by four power and generally we’ve had a bounty of mythics that look like mtgcardsmith abominations.

  • Kevan Kramer

I love that they made him a wizard.

  • mehngo

Say hello to my Rakdos EDH! You’ll feel right at home next to Mr. Hidetsugu.

  • Nanya

    Inalla want?

    • Edward

Yeah she definitely does. If everyone is at 40 this will put them at 17 after both triggers with Inalla’s ability and since this thing is good in combat too it will get even more of a boost with the haste on the token. Also with Panharmonicon and Inalla both the the battlefield this thing would put everyone’s life to 2 if they all had 40. The only downside is that you lose the life too.

      • JD Farrell

Theyll be at 17, 16 on the first trigger, then 9 on the second.

        • Edward

Oops you are correct I totally messed that up. I accidentally mixed up the 4 and 6 at the end of the numbers when first calculating it. I’ll go fix it

      • John Scott

actually they would be at 7 (if i did the math right) after panharmonicon and inalla
        40->26 -14
        26->17 -9
        17->11 -6
        11->7 -4

        • Edward

That would be true but with both Panharmonicon and Inalla out you can use her token creating ability twice allowing for an additional 2 triggers putting them at 2. I guess I should have specified that I meant in my original comment

  • Chris Tomsky

3BB, Orc Pirate Wizard, ETB: Teach your opponent how to do basic math again.

  • MrAptronym

Looking forward to my friends trying to remember what a third of 54 is in the middle of an EDH game. That said, good ETB and good body. I am a fan.

    • Tolle

Looking forward to your friends remembering that smart phones have calculators.

      • MrAptronym

That sounds equally time consuming, if not worse.

    • Josue Martinez

      3 goes into 5 once. Remainder 2 goes down. 3 goes into 24 8 times. 54-18 is 36 or easier yet 18×2 is 36.

Your friends can’t do long division? lol

      • Mr.Mayhem631

Who wants to do that in the middle of a Magic game?

        • Josue Martinez

          Math is fun.

      • Tony Delfino

Or you could just pull out your phone and divide your life total by three to find out how much life you loose.

      • MrAptronym

Are you really instructing me on arithmetic? I know how to do math, as do they. It was a joke, but just because you can do division doesn’t mean it isn’t going to slow down your game as every player stops whatever they were thinking about and ponders for a second as this enters. What I am saying is that it’s a card that slows things down, and not in a terribly interactive or interesting way. (Also kind of excessive to do long division here, you can probably figure it out more quickly from its difference from the obvious 60)

        • Josue Martinez

          Yes

  • Dr. Burn Crow

    I’ll call him Stinkyfists

  • Tolle

Menace and death touch. That is a really rude combination. To block him they HAVE to sacrifice both creatures. Absolute bomb in limited.

  • Shagoth

    Doze creature types, though.

    • Joshua Feight

Right?! Orc pirate wizard is one heck of a combination.

      • magicalfollower

I feel like WotC only put the Wizard type because of C17.
        Could be wrong though.

  • DRACHIR

I thought “opponents” at first and finally got excited about a non-land card out of Ixalan – then i realized it says “players” . . .
    -.-‘

    • mehngo

Do you even realize how busted this card would be if it said “opponents?” Lower your standards and you won’t be disappointed.

      • Friedrich

Well the problem with it saying “players” is not really its power level, but the fact that it hurts aggressive Decks more than their opponents.
This is a very weird card as it gets better the more life your opponent has more than you. So let’s say you have 10 life and your opponent is at 20, then it will set him to 13 and you to 7, lowering the gap by 4, still it is to be argued that there will almost never be a time where it is profitable for your strategy to give up 1/3 of your live for an effect that will 90% of the times be not symmetric or not in your favour.
This becomes even more obvious when facing the 40 life starting point of commander. Playing this T3 with an entire Table being at 40 it will make you not only the target, but will most likely not give you any advantage whatsoever. And this only kills very slowly when flickered. (20->13->8->5->3->2->1->0)

While beeing fun this card is highly ineffizient, if you are not in a crazy flickering set-up, have tons of lifegain or are already loosing the game hard.

  • Happy The Cat

Deadeye Navigator. because I like making people mad at math.

    • Ryan Cameron

And don’t forget about Inalla, Archmage Ritualist along with panharmonicon!

  • Bostorket

“RAARG I GO BLINK BLINK NAO”

  • Jude

DUUUUUDE U GOTTA SMELL THIS -other pirate chokes and gags falling off ship-

  • Vizzerdrix

If this guy had some sort of discard he would be a creature form of pox, 1/3 life on entering, menace deathtouch likely kills 2 creatures if he’s blocked in some sort of black control pox deck that’s prob more than 1/3 their creatures, really just missing the discard and I guess the land destruction but destroy all/most lands isn’t likely to get printed nowadays

  • DJ Pad

This card is pretty bad, especially for a mythic.

  • Dragoncastermaster

I can think of a few commander decks that would love this card

  • Tolle

Oh, I can do that in my head (also, that is technically just division…) but that is not the point of my comment…

  • Josue Martinez

Oops meant to reply to MrAptronym
