• galen150

um, what? really? just a slightly worse serum visions?

    • Ryan Ross

Better imo. Is an instant and scries before the draw.

      • galen150

wasnt serum visions the one that scries before it draws? i remember there was one that scries 2 before it draws, and one that scries after and the one that scries before was banned. and on a 1 drop draw card, i dont think that the instant really makes a big diffference

        • Ryan Ross

Preordain is the banned one. Scrying before the draw is a pretty big deal and its perfect for modern.

        • Jacob Meyer

Preordain is the before draw and thats banned

        • Heinz57

          That was preordain

          • galen150

ok, dont play modern so forgot which was which :/

        • chataolauj

          Instant always make big difference.

    • Kevan Kramer

This is a reprint of an old card.

      • Ultramegalord

Aye and I have it in foil XD

        • Nadim Hissen

          me too!
a $10 card that cost me no more than $1 back when i bought it… :D

    • sansmyhands

They’re about the same on power level, with each being slightly better depending on the situation. Visions is better for combo decks while Opt is better for control.

  • Kitnz

    Love it. Common cantrip.

  • xxxx

Finally a good reprint for modern and at Common. Good job wotc!

    • Adam Gillies

I think this might get banned in modern pretty quickly, it is a very powerful cantrip and leaps and bounds better than serum visions and sleight of hand. Can’t say I’m not excited though, it’s a sweet card for us blue players.

      • xxxx

Modern could be ready for opt.

        • Ryan Ross

I’ve been asking for an option reprint for awhile now. It feels right between Serum Visions and Preordain and that is the perfect power level for modern

          • xxxx

You’ve been asking for an “option” reprint for a while? The card is called “opt”. xD

      • Ryan Ross

Let’s be honest, we can imagine storm players reactions right now

        • Fred Weasley

          There’s a storm a brewin’!

        • DarthinvaderIX

Aetherflux reservoir just got a buff.

        • Shagoth

Can we ban the actual problem, which is storm, instead of banning all of these fair cards over and over? I don’t care if they’re the enabler, storm literally gets enabled by playing the game in a fair deck.

          • Ryan Ross

I agree I hate the deck. If an archetype can still exist after 4 bannings and threatens the legality of new cards still it isn’t healthy, end of.

          • Shagoth

Exactly, harmless cards aren’t printed after several bannings means the deck is the problem. Not to bring up the hypocrisy involving splinter twin and pod and dredge, but it’s pretty hypocritical considering twin, pod, and dredge.

          • jordanskaven

            treasure cruise
            dig through time
            preordain
            ponder
            gitaxian probe
            rite of flame
            seething song

        • Alexandre Donnart

Storm is already a strong deck since Baral. Now it needs a ban. Sell your Pasts in Flames / Gifts Ungiven, quickly.

  • Kevan Kramer

Nice to see the card that scried before scry was a thing reprinted with scry.

    • Robert FakeLastName

      is this new to modern?

      • Hedronal

        Yep

      • Kevan Kramer

        yes

      • Zombie

“Scry” itself was coined as a keyword in the Mirrodin era, specifically the third set of the Mirrodin block, Fifth Dawn (Serum Visions is the big name here).

Fifth Dawn was the first set where “Scry” appeared.

Similarly to what happened with keywords like Hexproof, things did what Scry did previously, and were errata’ed to be Scry cards later on.

  • Random Guy

Compared to serum visions, instant and scrying before the draw means you feel the effect 1 turn earlier.

  • Kameenook

This seems like a great reprint. While it does lack the digging power of preordain the instant speed makes it a (seemingly) viable option for control decks.

    • xxxx

      Draw go control (*.*)

  • Julian Allen

very nice .3. simple, useful cantrip. love it

    • DarthinvaderIX

      filter-cantrip at instant speed.

  • Julna Buras

Think this’ll eventually lead to a Serum Visions reprint? Even if it doesn’t, this is still amazing.

    • Writerofthings

This is better than Serum in my opinion

    • Aidan23

I think this will replace serum visions in modern.

  • Grant Jacobson

this leaves us with the following questions…Should we opt in? or opt out?

    • Shagoth

Opt in, like, every deck that plays blue post legacy.

  • MrAptronym

Opt is fantastic and I am so good with this. cheap, elegant, instant and just potent enough.

EDIT: Oh wow, I just realized this wasn’t in modern yet. I think it could certainly see play there. Here is your common, modern players complaining that this (and each before it in turn) set has nothing :P

  • Guest

Yes! I’ve wanted to see this reprinted for so long.

  • Zutaradimus

Jesus, this is a common. Please don’t be serum visions mk.2 and cost 5 bucks, at common rarity.

    • chataolauj

Currently at $0.49 on StarCityGames for pre-order.

    • sansmyhands

Buy a few packs of Ixalan and then you’ll be happy if it jumps to $5 when you’ve got twenty of them.

  • Derek Niles

    now modern legal lol

  • Brian Schmidt

As close to Preordain as you will get.

    • Robert FakeLastName

at instant this is not strictly worse than preordain.

  • chataolauj

Gonna buy a bunch while it’s cheap.

    • Deadly Berry

Yep. Buy them foils now before their price skyrockets.

      • chataolauj

        No foil for pre-order.

  • Jacob Bachand

T1 in control allows us to hold up this, spell pierce, fatal push, cycle censor or cast duress post board. Love it!

  • Shagoth

I’m glad that people aren’t underestimating this card. I believe storm will unfairly get this banned when storm is the problem, not harmless cantrips that make the games actively more fair (people rely less upon luck and more upon skill).

    • Thomas Luffman

Nah…. they’ll ban manamorphose, the card that keeps gifts storm from being a complete pile.

      • Shagoth

It’s so frustrating that they don’t just ban Grapeshot which makes it so if WOTC sneezes it breaks the format.

    • the mad seer

I think instead of a card, that in certain situations they should just ban combos. for example ban the use of splinter twin in decks with pestermite and exarch, but allow their use separately. cards that are too powerful on their own would still be banned individually, but cards that are ok outside of a specific combo would be allowed in all other decks

      • Shagoth

That’s too weird and complex and easy to cheat.

It’s simpler to ban cards. LIKE GRAPESHOT. Heck, I like storm! It’s fun trying to chain together so many things, it’s like the embodiment of satisfaction, but it is taking up half the banned list and is the embodiment of an innately destructive deck.

  • Zombie

That feel when you’ve been sitting on a foil playset of Invasion Opt for 15+ years.

    MY TIME TO SHINE

  • theEternalPilgrims

Hello, Modern! Hope there is a monthly fnm promo of this card next year.

    • bentheechidna

FNM promos are double sided tokens from now on.

    • Bostorket

Hello, Modern! How long til’ you ban me?

  • Chet Turner

I’d still like to see Anticipate back.

  • Deadly Berry

Enjoy it while it lasts. It might get banned early 2018, but hey.

  • Meepmam

The flavor text is perfect tho

  • Meepmam

    Perfect flavor text tho

  • Happy The Cat

fun fact, his telescope has all those lenses to see the multiple types of booty.

  • Celie Hima

Please Wizards, let this exist in Modern. Let Blue have something.
