  • Rajinx

4 heads? 4 power and toughness?

    • Nordic92

It actually got 5 heads, though one of then is pretty hard to spot, behind the head farthest to the Left :)

      • OdBoX

You can just see its neck there, maybe that head was cut off by some brave hero of Theros?
Unlikely, however the fifth neck is there.

        • kumatron

That or it’s a second tail. I wonder why a fifth head would be looking elsewhere or don’t appear at all.

          • guest

well its the same with progenitus. the original progenitus card only has 4 heads showing while the fifth is off screen. one of the few reasons i like the FtV version better :D

          • kdaragon

but the shadow of progenitus makes him look more god like

      • Rajinx

        Oh yes, now i see. Thank’s man :) 5/5?

  • OdBoX

“Activate this ability only once.” is interesting wording.
    per turn maybe?
How would you keep track of it?
Aside from that, pretty strong looking ability on a mana efficient body.

    • Xero

There are some abilities (specifically one that I know of on a Vanguard card) that says “Activate this ability only once.” It means once a game. Not sure if it leaves and reenters the battlefield that’ll reset.

      • crusade55

If it leaves the battlefield and reenters, the game treats it as a new object, and the ability for that specific object will not have been activated. So you could blink it and use its ability again.

      • Quinn Carrico

“Monstrosity is a new keyword action that appears on the monsters of Theros and is defined as giving the creature the ability to become monstrous only once per game (unless it somehow leaves play and comes back)”
This is from the column yesterday about Polukranos.

    • vmorda

According to other sites you can only activate his ability when he has no counters. So unless you have a way to remove the counters you can only use it once (supposedly).

  • Adam Gillespie

Wording on this is wrong from what every other thing i’ve seen its this :

    2GG

    Legendary Creature – Hydra

Monstrosity – XXG, : Put X +1/+1 counters on Polukranos. Then,
Polukranos deals damage equal to the number of counters put onto
Polukranos this way among any number of target creatures. Those
creatures deal damage to Polukranos equal to their power. Activate this
ability only if there are no counters on Polukranos.

    5/5

    • Quinn Carrico

The rules text on the card is from the official wizards site, it is correct.

  • ShiroRX

It already seems way too cheap. 5/5 drop, easily 5/5+ drop for 4 mana?

    • vmorda

You have to consider the XXG cost for counters and that his ability can only be activated once. Also it’s a Legendary Mythic Rare so the fact its a 4CMC for 5/5 isn’t surprising.

    • Joshua McTiernan

I’d like to point out Deadbrigde Goliath

    • Tyler

if thats cheap tp you look at primordial hydra man

  • Manos Kon

Polukranos makes no sense as a name. Should have been Polykranos, but someone in WotC mistook the greek ‘Ypsilon’ for a U.
It’s like when in unreal tournament they named a bot “Xoleras”

    • Bertthehulk

It does, because the “Ypsilon” is also a “Upsilon” in Greek. Old Greek doesn’t make a difference between Y and U
I also like how they just named this guy “Many helmets” xD

  • Ludicolo

    Ramp Edh?

  • Joshua McTiernan

Ladies and gentlemen, the green Bonfire.

    • Brandon Sauer

Not even close, but sensationalism is always popular.

  • SoruRoku

    Seems fake.

    • Quinn Carrico

This was posted yesterday on the wizards website as a reveal for the Duel Decks. It’s not fake.

  • Adam Gillespie

The cost has changed again lol the consensus is now XGG with better wording

  • Loiden Mc Leroy

The mechanic says monstrosity X. Will there be other cards that are like Monstrosity 2GG for 3?

    • Bennyboy

yes. And they are already out.

      • Loiden Mc Leroy

        I noticed

  • Loiden Mc Leroy

    A talk between magic designers.
Head Designers: Is Theros isn’t intresting enough.
AD: We have enchantments and god-cards
HD: Have you used the OP stuff?
    AD: Yes
HD: have you used the Arch-enemy stuff?
    AD: Yes
HD: Throw in a five-headed hydra and call it a day

    • Fbn Dnl Schlr

      You forgot EDH.

  • Joshua McTiernan

    This plus Kalonian Hydra! Amegerd!!

    • Joshua McTiernan

That would be….monstrous, wouldn’t you say?

  • noob-man

People you got to stop focusing on just the counters.Dont get me wrong +1/+1 counters are awsome but imagine this some sort of kraken( or leviathan, im not very good with greek mythology) that has monstosity that taps creatures, some black creature (like a gorgon or something) that gives -x/-x to another creature or maybe a monstosity creature that destroys x enchantments or maybe even some small low costing creature with a low monstrosity cost that doesnt do anything exept get infintly huge late game… just sayin

    • Brandon Sauer

      That sentence was a mess.
But if I understood it correctly, that’s fine but it has nothing to do with Polukranos as a card. Monstrosity could be an interesting mechanic, but here its extremely narrow and too slow.

  • Fiona

Since Heroes vs Monsters comes out I hope there’s a Heroic mechanic to go along with Monstrous. I think it should be something like this.

If this creatures is enchanted it becomes Heroic. (or maybe enchanted by an aura you control since a pacified hero is a bit funny). This would tie in with the enchantment theme and also give a nice incentive to use auras since they are usually so risky for card advantage.

  • guest

It really annoys me how many people seem incapable of reading when it comes to this card.

“X damage divided as you choose” =/= “X damage to everything”

That concludes this public service announcement.

  • CodyGozRawr

If he kills the creature or creatures he dealt damage to would it or they still do damage back to him?
