• Nick Art

Holy hell. Welp, good luck killing any Esper control decks when they have this. The opening hand effect will never really be a factor, but you just know you’re gonna have somebody at 1 and then they’ll gain back 25 life.

  • Bige Boiy

the only use for this I can think of is a sideboard card, but I don’t recall any burn decks letting you live until turn 6

    • Arcus Diabolus

I wouldn’t see this as a card you’d cast to beat burn, but something that earns you a free turn at the very start to either wait for them to fizzle out or kill them yourself.

EDIT: That said, its a dead draw in any other instance against burn.

  • MagicGALAXY

This card is funny. I could see it being really funny in Limited in opening hand.

    • ashton

you reveal it in opening hand and your opponent will realize that you’ll play it as soon as your life goes below 10 lol

      • MagicGALAXY

And then, when side boarding in between matches, you take it out of the deck and leave your opponent feeling sub-conscience about using the card. MIND GAMES :D

  • Arcus Diabolus

Tears up conventional burn decks for buying you that extra turn or two, and especially if you are running additional life gain.

After that, not incredibly useful. It will close out close games if it happens to go off however. Will probably still run exactly one in at least my angel deck, but I’m hard pressed to find anything worth removing for this.

    • Tragic

Honestly, I think it has potential alongside cards like Shining Shoal. Reveal this in your opening hand to net some early lifegain, then throw it to shining shoal later for a nasty combat trick against big attackers, dealing their damage against your opponent instead. It’s not a great card, but I think in the right setup it could be pretty rad.

  • DJ Pad

meh bad life gain card. If you want to beat burn, there are way better cards (leyline of sanctity, warmth etc.). Against, most other decks, you’d probably prefer to have cards that do something.

    • Nick Art

See, if you’re playing this card (in Standard) you’re already playing Control and have other stuff to stop Aggro and Mindrange decks. This is for when you gain 20 something life and destroy all your opponents hopes of squeezing out a win before you win yourself.

  • Son Goku

I like this card from a thematic standpoint, and I like unique, interesting effects. I’d love to find a home for this in my Angel deck. Sadly, because I have Baneslayer Angel and also Leyline of Sanctity, I can’t see using it outside of very specific Standard decks, and I’m not going to play Standard this cycle because I hate Eldrazi. Unfortunately, this might buy you an extra turn or two against aggro decks, but against burn, it’s not going to make that big of a difference, and against something like a mill deck, it is entirely useless. Whereas Leyline of Sanctity can shut down both of those things right off the bat.

  • tonaced

Good movie reference to the brain boys

  • Arcus Diabolus

Does anyone think this is possibly referencing Emrakul worship or something more interesting?

    • Nebulium

It looks remarkably void of tentacles and purple, so I’m guessing it’s like “Well avacyn was a bust, but I’ve got faith in some kind of protector/higher power.” But who knows? Maybe she’s just praying for tentacle madness.

      • Arcus Diabolus

I really hope theres something more to Innistrad that is powerful and unknown by all, even Sorin. Judging by the flavor text, SOMETHING is listening to her prayers, and by being white, you can only assume it stands for something other than itself in some way or another.

Fourth Sister perhaps?? Black white angel protector of Innistrad? Hardly wouldn’t be known by Sorin, but it gives me some level of hope.

        • Johannes Hellgren

Sigarda hasn’t been shown corrupted yet, has she? I believe I read some theories that she’ll be the new protector, and it would make sense given that she specifically protects humans in her SOI card

          • Arcus Diabolus

If Sigarda couldn’t protect everyone with the help of Avacyn, Gisela, Bruna and literally every other angel, she’s not going to be able to make much of a dent terms of protecting anything by herself.

It needs to be some new (or old and hidden) force Sigarda can support, something strong enough to hold back the forces of darkness in Avacyn’s wake, unless somehow something makes Sigarda a LOT stronger.

          • Hedronal

Being fair, Sigarda is by no means done trying to protect whatever she can, and praying to her probably wouldn’t hurt, even if it helping is not necessarily likely.

  • Nebulium

This could be a good sideboard for the right deck with enough mana accel against aggro or burn. I like the reference to 13 too.

  • SquirePath

    #CommanderStaple. rofl

  • Markus Rockatansky

    It’s a 7/7 with starfield of nyx.

    • Tragic

      This isn’t an enchantment though…

      • Markus Rockatansky

        Oh, totally Read this wrong.

        • Tragic

          It happens =P

  • Samuel

i wish it said target player instead of your

  • Blahblahblahbla

This might have surpassed One With Nothing as the worst EDH card ever printed.

    • MagicGALAXY

One With Nothing isn’t completely awful. It would be much worse if it costed more than 1 Black and not at Instant speed.

      Fun / Stupid Combo:
      – Have Barren Glory and Enchanted Evening out in play. When having enough mana, cast Oblivion Ring targeting Barren Glory. Once it is the End Step before your turn, cast Quicken to play Cleanfall with One With Nothing right afterward. At your upkeep, you win the game.

Of course, this is stupid and not very consistent. There are other ways of doing it, but this is one easy one I found for Barren Glory with One With Nothing.

One With Nothing also works with Hellbent stuff. I haven’t played with the card much to much else though.

  • Alex Massar

The thing I like about this card is that you can use it twice in really useful times… as in, when you open the game with it you get a life bonus, plus as you are about to lose the game you immediately get shot back up to more than life starting total, with the same card you know you already have for as long as you can hold onto it in your hand

  • MagicGALAXY

    Wait a second . . . each branch has thirtee . . . DANG IT WIZARDS!

  • guy

  • Deadly Berry

I don’t know what to think of this card; the 6 life gain is certainly useful as sideboard vs aggro but your defenses better be good to drag it into end game because 7 mana aren’t getting paid any time soon, of course if you manage to pull it off it’ll be a sure win. It’s a shame it won’t ever be used in EDH, who’d want to lose 14 life from the start? Even if the wording were something like “Your life total becomes 6 more than your starting total” is still very underwhelming.

Overall, Blessed Alliance (the white uncommon with escalate) is a much better choice for sideboard vs aggro.

  • Vixin Xiviir

Reno Jackson has entered the MTG world. Mostly.

    • Bige Boiy

We’re gonna be rich! If only life totals mattered in magic like they do in Hearthstone.

      • Vixin Xiviir

        Yeah, don’t we wish.

  • MrAptronym

Unlike 13, 26 just isn’t a very resonant number. For that reason alone I find this card a disappointment. The effect is neat, but when you compare it to a card like Chancellor of the Dross, it just comes up wanting in almost every respect. (and many people were not impressed by the chancellor… I think the cycle is cool.) Seven mana is a lot to pay, and if you were losing the game by that point you’re really hoping that your opponent is about to run out of steam. The opening hand effect is nice, but it also means being basically down a card for a long time and getting something situational if you ever get to 7.

With effects like this, its hard to rule out some weird niche usage, but I can’t think of a time when I would want this around in my deck over other options.

  • MrAptronym

Thinking on it, while they are using the word providence, could this be a reference to Providence, the city in Rhode Island where author H.P. Lovecraft lived? Lovecraft had quite a history with the place, famously stating in one of his letters (used as an epitaph on a grave made much later) “I am Providence”.

  • Nanya

    Is an unusual number.

    Useless in EDH though.

Well, I suppose if you’re at like 4 life it’s useful.

    • Nolly

Its two 13s melded together to create “Strangely inneffective life total man!”

  • Adolf Nobel

    Check out the Herons

    • Hedronal

Wow, I didn’t even see those with the warped look.

      • Adolf Nobel

Excuse my ignorance of english language, may I ask the meaning (in this context)of warped look.

        • Dylan Dougherty

to bend or twist out of shape, especially from a straight or flat form, as timbers or flooring.
to bend or turn from the natural or true direction or course.
to distort or cause to distort from the truth, fact, true meaning, etc.; bias; falsify:
          Prejudice warps the mind.

to be or become biased; hold or change an opinion due to prejudice, external influence, or the like.
(of a stratum in the earth’s crust) to bend slightly, to a degree that no fold or fault results.
a bend, twist, or variation from a straight or flat form in something, as in wood that has dried unevenly.

          • Adolf Nobel

            Thanks :-)

        • Hedronal

What Dylan Dougherty said, although specifically in this case how the image is twisted and distorted, and the things in it aren’t shaped quite how they would be naturally.

          • Adolf Nobel

            Got it, thanks man :-)

    • disqus_A12YL8TXnr

      I think they’re gryffs, actually.

  • BinkyMcCummings

    this card triggered my

Triskaidekaphobia . will sue wizards of the coast. seriously though this card doesnt know what it wants, i imagine people trying to run 4 of these to increase likelyhood of getting one 1 turn but they will more often end up drawing one turn 2, 3 or 4 lol #HATE

  • Nharzhool

    mmhmmm…EDH dethrone! haha

Such a useless EDH card. lol

  • Zachary Cooper

The only place I could see this is in the sideboard of control decks against aggro, and thats even a stretch

  • Urdothor

So, if its in your opening hand it buys you another turn or two.
If your at like 4 life and you top deck it, its helpful.
Draw it any other time and feel sadness.

  • Happy The Cat

stall magic, through and through. why on earth is this seven mana? if it was five it could at least save you from hyper aggro decks. would be really interesting if it said target player though…

    • Matt86

Starting with 26 will probably make most burn decks auto-concede anyways, since thosedecks are metriculously built to get a player down to 0 withing 4 turns and then stop playing. Revealing this from your starting hand will take you to turn 7, and the second time a burn deck sees this, it’s all over

      • Happy The Cat

but if you reveal this I know you have a dead card in your hand, plus that only decks that can run this are the heavy control lock decks that full burn loves to feast on. you gained six life? so what, I’ll kill you turn five instead of turn four.

        • Matt86

… if you have the cards for that as a burn deck. As I said, normally, a burn deck is designed to deal 20-22 damage with 10 cards, no way of telling whether card 11 and 12 willget the job done as the burn deck rapidly loses board…

  • TheAweDude

Let me ask you this, would this card be “broken” if it said “gain 6 life” instead of that janky “your life total is 26.” Even if you have four in your opening hand, you start at 44 life, but you basically have mulled down to three.

    • EJ

Possibly, because then an EDH lifegain deck would still be able to cast a turn-1 Serra Ascendant or reanimate a Felidar Sovereign and win the game.

Anyway, this is better than “gain 6 life”, which would probably cost like 1 or 2 mana. If you play it on curve, you’re not just going from 20 to 26. You might be going from 1 to 26. In constructed formats, this might be worth sideboarding in against a burn deck or a deck which manipulates your life total, while “gain 6 life” definitely would not.

Also, 26 is double 13 so it’s probably significant or flavorful or something.

  • Robert FakeLastName

soul sisters will never be the same.

  • Bige Boiy

Use it to BM before you combo off in edh.

  • Melissa Juice

    Weird as hell.

  • SmolderingButcher

    This card is very odd.

  • kmk888

Bizarre. If you don’t understand why it’s 26, consider that 13 is an unlucky number associated with Innistrad. This occurs twice during the game and is twice 13. I don’t know what all that means but that’s what I have noted converting the card.

Seems like a fine sealed card to me but I don’t think it’ll see play anywhere else.

Not every rare or mythic can be good.

  • Vizzerdrix

    Hmm modern sera ascendant?

  • Robert FakeLastName

is this going to be in a cycle like the chancellors were?

  • Lady Space Patrol

I’m very curious to see which is card number 26 in the set. It would be white, I assume. If they are praying for help and card 26 answers, might it be a mono white Sigarda, or perhaps something else?

  • silverhawk100

My combo mind is churning. Nothing useful is immediately coming up, mind you, but it is churning…

“With Rhox Faithmender on the table, you can be at, like, 10 life and when you cast it you’ll go all the way to 42 life.”
“Okay, so assuming you get there, how does that help you?”
    “I don’t know yet.”

  • BookCake

Half the life with triskaidekaphobia with an effect, and you get an instant win. More work than usual, I’d say.

  • El Amo del MEROL

im sorry i dont want to sound stupid but how can you pay 7 converted mana cost from first hand if you only can have 1 mana? it means i dont have to pay 7 coverted mana cost just put it down on the battlefield like that??
