• Kahai

Sweet, just asked for more bricks!

Now WotC, give me more Sphinxes!

  • Kahai

    SOOO powerful in non competitive.

Throw in an Clock of Omens and a sol ring and you can prime this really fast!

  • Cody Alex Humble

    WHAT!?!?!?!?
    THIS IS GOOD EVERYWHERE

    • MTGFanatic

But it is too slow. EDH decks might use this card.

      • Hedronal

Maybe, but why not just use other cheap no-setup mana rocks?

    • Zombie

      It’s really not, though.

It’s horrifically slow to activate and there are already better combos in every format.

      • Happy The Cat

        #throwitincommander

        • Zombie

Not even EDH wants this fam

          • Happy The Cat

okay, now I know you have lost it, sure it starts of as a bad mana filter but turning into a Gilded is much better than some cards that see play in 3~5 color decks.

          • Zombie

Or you could just play faster ramp that isn’t pure smelly refuse

          • mehngo

Omnath likes it because it ends up net costing you 4 mana for a second copy of Gilded Lotus.

  • Cody Alex Humble

PARADOX ENGINE // AETHERFLUX JUST GOT A CARD
    #NEWSAHEELI

    • Daniel Kaine Allen

I’m glad you were thinking exactly what I was thinking.

  • Alexandre Donnart

Exactly the kind of card I will try to build around, with cards like Voltaic Key or Proliferate. It seems possible to have it active on turn 4, which is decent for a Gilded Lotus effect.

  • BalthasarH.

Oh, hey they fixed Mana Vault! And they gave it a fancy paint job while they were at it!
It is a assemble-yourself product now but that isn’t a problem, right? They forgot the Allan key though and the building instructions are in Chinese, so it takes ages to assemble.

  • atraxa cards everywhere

  • Julna Buras

    Interesting

  • Edward

Maybe this could do something cool with Winding Constrictor in standard but with the -1/-1 counter support I am not sure in Winding Constrictor will be worth playing

    • Random Guy

Skyship Plunderer works too. It’s kinda like tron, you spend the first 2-3 turns prepairing and after that you get +mana. It’s a lot worse though; what do you do on the second turn?

      • Edward

Maybe turn 1 Soul-Scar Mage or this. Turn 2 either activate the ability or cast Winding Constrictor or Skyship Plunderer depending on the decks colors. Turn 3 you can either cast Pyramid Of The Pantheon if you didn’t earlier and then hold up mana or activate its ability depending on what else you have on the field. If you already have it on the field you can either use its ability then cast a 2 drop or hold up mana. After that you should either have enough counters on it or almost have enough counters.

  • Random Guy

Now we just need Brick Tribal.

    • Joel Lee

I literally laughed out loud at this you’re a hero.

    • prplprince

      an enchantment that reads

Permanents with brick counters on them are X/X Colorless creature tokens with indestructible, where X is the number of brick counters on them.

  • Murilo Mazza

awesome for a control deck, against a control deck. (“suddenly I have 3 extra manas, more than you, and I can win any counterspell battle”)

    • Edward

I feel it could be good with cards like Unsubstantiate and Failure/ Comply because they are good for tempo control. It also allows you to the threat of your opponents cards before deciding whether you want to tap this for the mana and brick counter or counter/ deal with an opponents card. I can even see Censor being played either to outright counter a spell early game, slow an opponent late game, or just be used for cycling. Curator Of Mysteries could be good for late game and even be used as a finisher. The deck already sounds good to me and let’s not forget Kefnet as well for finishers

  • Happy The Cat

build-a-lotus, coming to a mall near you!

  • Typhuzuzu13

See, here’s the gimick: green has that aether revolt cantrip, and you also have this card. Theoretically one could make a green/black or even green/blue green/red that uses that plus this to play different colored spells. Spells that occupy less than or exactly fifteen cards. A red/blue burn deck that snuck in a black kill spell, a green/black ballista deck that snuck in a blue counterspell, or even a white/red deck that snuck in a gamewinning buff? Idk I love gimicks that let you change colors between games, and this seems like a fun way to.

  • Edward

The more I think about this card for Standard the better it gets. This could be just what Blue control decks needed. You can hold up mana for the second ability and just activate it on your opponents turn if they don’t do anything you care about. There is a decent amount of Blue 2 mana counter spells/ return spell to hand spells that can be held up just in case until your opponents end step. You can also use Censor and any of the blue cycle support card like Curator of Mysteries and Drake Haven to help with consistency or a win condition. Kefnet, Drake Haven, and Curator Of Mysteries can all be win conditions as well. On top of that you can add Red to get more value from the discard/ cycling support(i.e. Cathartic Reunion) on top of adding red removal options and Soul-Scar Mage. Baral seems like a good card for the deck too for both of his abilities and we definitely can’t forget Torrential Gearhulk.

  • imoth

WHOA, DUDE. LIKE, ATRAXA GETS THIS THERE ONE TURN FASTER IN ATRAXA FORMAT (TM).
TAKES EVEN LESS TURNS IF YOUR BUDDY’S ATRAXA PROLIFERATES YOUR STUFF AND THE OTHER ATRAXA PLAYERS’ ATRAXA STUFF WHEN HE ATRAXAS! BECAUSE.. ATRAXA! ATRAXATRAXYTRAXATRAXAXTRAXA!! WOO

    • Ziembski

Did I mention its good with Atraxa?

    • What!

      Best comment on this site.

    • MrAptronym

Hmm, Atraxa, I never would have thought of that!

    • Cthulhooo

Also might consider it if you’re playing commander and you have some kind of synergy with counters. Like Atraxa.

    • Kameenook

I was thinking of putting this in an atraxa deck, is it a good idea ?

  • MrAptronym

Five gods, one purpose. Averages out to three mana.

  • Han Solo II

go f yourself WotC and your love for Atraxa

  • sansmyhands

I like how this turns the one colored mana cycling costs into the classic two generic mana.

  • SirCancelot
    • Пламен Балев

If only Atraxa was a good enough competitive Commander deck…

  • prplprince

Is it just me or does it feel like this card should have cost 0 cmc just for the “fixed” lotus feel

  • Kameenook

Unless you’re proliferating or abusing the brick counters to turn this on without activating it thrice, it just doesn’t seem relevant outside of specific situations. Gilded Lotus is the obvious comparison

    • mehngo

I’d argue it’s worth it as another colored mana producing rock for Mono G Omnath, since it will always be able to keep the mana produced from adding brick counters.

  • ConDucktor Whirl Crate God

    ATRAXAAAA!!!!

  • kmk888

I like the card. It seems almost playable in certain decks without trying to abuse it, and there are already a couple ways to abuse it such as Winding Constrictor and Skyship Plunderer. It also seems good in the artifact synergy decks from Kaladesh. You could play this in Paradox Engine or Metalwork Colossus decks.

  • Shagoth

For your next addition to an atraxa deck, it’s so refined that it’s worth it just to replace the lands whenever we see a new cool card with her now.
