• Dr. Burn Crow

    That’s very playable in green.

  • Ken

Just sitting here and waiting for the hate to start. Otherwise I like it.

  • this guy is so much more playable than the others so far

  • Desthian

    omg rhonas has it

  • Ryan Cameron

    I like this one.

  • Xiangyu Chen

omg, I predicted this yesterday. LOL. Very nice solid card, the new Nissa is amazing too.

  • God Enel

Oh this is only 3 mana, I checked the abilities before noticing the cost. This one is actually great.

  • foxboy1000

5/5 Deathtoucher for 3? What’s that, it can also buff my guys and give them trample? And its got indestructible? AND IT CAN BE MY COMANDER? Yes please.

  • DJ Pad

    This guy is a beater

  • Ryū

Snekcellent, snektacular, snekciting, unexsnekted, the snekst big thing. I approve.

    • Pulverizerg

      Are you happy now?

      • Ryū

Of course, Snek Gob has blessed us with his tramply gifts.

    • Gareth Martin

      Cringe.

      • Ryū

Kind of like the use of the word ‘cringe.’

  • Soren Szilver

Probably the best God so far

    • Jacob Anderson

Are you saying just in this set or including all of the Gods in the Theros block?

      • Daniel Kaine Allen

Probably just this set since theros isn’t really relevant. And I agree. Blue and red god are kind of terrible, and the white god is only somewhat good. I just hope black god is the best and by a considerable degree.

      • Soren Szilver

Just this set. Although it is better then some of the theros gods too. Like the BG one.

  • Happy The Cat

my bad, my guess was off, I said three power or more.
competently unfair in comparison to the red and blue gods, the only bad thing about him is he cant target himself for deathtouch trample, fortunately his monument can give him it, making green even more powerful than the other colors.

  • Teddy Gillespie

Easy 1 or 2 of in a Midrange deck

  • Avery Standley

    Now that’s a god!

  • Xeonar

So what your’re saying is… play green, and it can attack and block.

    • Pier-Luc Tremblay

If you have ANOTHER creature with 4 power or greater

      • NC

So what your’re saying is… play green, and it can attack and block.

        • Pier-Luc Tremblay

My bad, I read play “this”, and not play green. Yeah, pretty easy to get enabled if you play green. Heck, you could just dump the Red God on T4 and enable it.

          • Random Guy

            Gods tribal here we come!

    • KrakenHunter

That’s exactly what is says. as long as you play green this is playable.

Why are the blue and red ones so bad lmao

      • foxboy1000

I don’t think the Red or Blue Gods are bad, I think all of them fit their color really well, and play well with their color.

        • KrakenHunter

hmmm you are right, I meant to say those are outrageously bad.

The red god could fit in a madness deck or a monored burn deck maybe.

But those are hardly standard playable. Might change depending on this week spoilers.

The blue one, I fail to see any quality to it.

With the amount of -/- counters, and exile in standard I don’t see red/blue gods seeing any play at all.

        • DJ Pad

I think people are underestimating the red god’s ability to turn any card in your hand into a shock. Stormbind was not a useless card and it didn’t have a body attached to it

    • Random Guy

      In modern it’s more complicated.

  • Nanya

Oh look, Gruul decks have a new best friend to run along side Xenogod.

  • Ankulay Poulay

The cheapest, the easiest to activate, and has deathtouch alongside indestructible. That’s a god.

  • Jacob Anderson

Man i just thought of something this with cards like Nature’s Way, Rabid Bite and Prey Upon pretty much make em unconditional removal i think =)

    • Jacob Anderson

To bad this card is gona be like $20 and i probably won’t open any, otherwise i would totally make a mono green deck, heck i still might even without him seeing this set so far.

  • Mr Black Mana

Finally a good and an interesting god. The white was just playable but this is definitely the best by far. Now please tell me we follow a trend and the black god will be even better!

    • Mr Black Mana

And I just relocked at it and realized…This is a slightly different Nylea that curves better+deathtouch. I still like it, but why do all the best gods in this block so far have to be slightly different versions of Theros gods?

      • Jeremy Scott

I think that’s just you making that comparison. Gods are gods. what were you expecting exactly?

        • Mr Black Mana

I love this card I do. But maybe something different? Both have the same cost, nearly identical abilities. I’m glad it’s an improvement but they are too similar and that’s what bugs me. People keep saying to not compare these new gods to theros but it’s hard to do if they copy the abilities of theros.

          • Hedronal

How are Kefnet or Hazoret copies of the Theran Thassa or Purphoros? It’s draw cards vs scry, can’t be blocked and hellbent shocks vs etb damage.

  • Deathtouch is pretty useless on a 5/5 indestructible.

    • foxboy1000

He murders things bigger than him, what’s the problem you have?

      • Random Guy

I think he’s saying there’s not much bigger than him. I disagree.

      • There’s not much bigger than him that matters in this set.

    • Jonathan Reynolds

Better to have it than to not. Considering in the Aether Revolt prerelease I was swinging with a 10/11 first strike on turn 3 or 4, I’m sure my opponents would have loved to have an indestructible deathtouch anything.

      • foxboy1000

        Exactly

      • Jacob Anderson

How the f were you swinging with a 10/11 on turn 3 at a pre-release?

        • Jonathan Reynolds

Siege Modifications on a Consulate Dreadnought.

I was basically given a R/W vehicles deck in my prerelease pack. I did well.

          • NC

            Living the dream.

          • Jonathan Reynolds

I 2-0’d all but my final match in under ten minutes and had people in the shop calling out asking how it was possible. It would have been very exciting if not for being so tired from the midnight prerelease just before.

      • 10/11 wasn’t hard to do in Aether Revolt. This set has no +1/+1 counters, and so far not many good auras to permanently pump. In this set 5/5 trample would likely have been better and more relevant.

    • DJPad

      Gets through gearhulks

      • It gets through most of them anyway without the deathtouch.

        • Alexandre Donnart

Not through the most played, Torrential. Without Deathtouch, the Blue player could ignore an indestructible 5/5. And as said before, if you want to put -1/-1 counters on him, it becomes relevant too.

          • The blue player doesn’t just ignore a 5/5 indestructible. They have to play around it as it represents a faster clock immediately after it’s online.

          • Alexandre Donnart

Implying the Blue player is never in a situation like this ? It would happen. If Rhonas didn’t have Deathtouch, a Torrential Gearhulk could be played to block an indestructible 5/5. When I said ignore, I meant this.

        • DJPad

It wouldn’t get through 3 of the 5, including the two most-played ones (Torrential and Verdurous) so I’m not sure what you meant by “most”.

          • That’s assuming Verdurous Gearhulk puts at least half of its counters on himself.

          • DJPad

Which it generally would if you had a 5/5 indestructible on the field.

          • Perhaps, unless you just played it, or they had another creature they were pumping to try to out grow he 5/5. In terms of gameplay, I’m much more willing to throw chumps in front of this guy and eat the other creatures with my fatties, where as if he had trample I would have to play the exact opposite. It makes no sense flavorwise or gameplay wise to me that a 0/1 White Goat token should be able to save me from e god of strength.

I’m not saying that this is a bad card, but deathtouch is much less useful on anything with more than 3 power, and even 3 power is pushing it.

    • Happy The Cat

dont forget his monument gives a target +2/+2 and trample when you play a creature, meaning when you play a 4/x from your hand turn 4 he becomes an indestructible trampling deathtouching 7/7.

      • That’s fine, but naturally having trample would have been preferable over deathtouch.

        • DJPad

And having flying, haste or double strike is even better, what’s your point? This is how they balanced the card and it’s more fitting with the flavor.

          • None of those abilities are particularly common in green, where as trample is the greenest evergreen mechanic. I don’t think it fits well with flavor outside of him being a snake, he’s the god of strength. Trample is the strength keyword, where as deathtouch is more of a small dog, big bite.

    • ymmij X

You could always pile one of the 2 drops -1/-1 counters on him making him a 2/2 deathtouch and getting a 4/4 for neglidgable loss. After all he’s still deathtouch. Could even play some red to give your 2 drop 4/4 haste

    • Mov

Because trample would be too powerful.

I was about to say at least it’s not reach, but actually reach would be more useful of an ability here than deathtouch, so yeah…

But then again it’s kinda like complaining because your ice cream is only double rather than triple choc… :)

  • Jordan Keltner

This is the dream god of G stompy decks! Easily the most useful activated skill of the gods. I want this!

  • Matthew Douglas

Really looking forward to catching an opponent unawares by using his ability to pump another creature to 4 power so I can block

    • DJ Pad

I doubt even an average player would be unaware of this.

      • Jalais

        But what about with flashcat?

        • Blahblahblahbla

If you are chilling on opponent’s turn with 6 mana open, they better be thinking about playing around stuff. Maybe you could catch them if you’re playing mono green. They might just read that you’re flooded.

  • Jeremy Scott

Prey Upon and/or Nature’s Way. Thy new target is Rhonas

  • Kaiser

So, let make green great again? Sure why not? this is OP has hell in standard XD

  • Cthulhooo

I believed, Rhonas. You delivered amazing spells and creatures. I believed and was rewarded. Praise Rhonas.

  • Ryan Ulrich

Bolas’s idea of Green is amazing

  • George Robinson

WTF. This card looks really good.

  • warslinger

hey cool, an actual useful god card in this set. finally

  • Zombie

About the same power level as Oketra. Playable, but still not as good as the first god of their color (Nylea in this case).

Deathtouch is neat and the pump ability is useful.

At keast he’s easy to “activate”, unlike Hazoret or that stupid bird.

    • Kevan Kramer

Red god is easy to activate. Not sure what you are talking about.

      • Zombie

“I have no cards in hand, here’s the Hazoret I’ve been setting up by dumping all my resources awa— aaand it’s dead”

        • Ashenmoor

“I played hazoret wrong and deserve to lose”

          • Zombie

“I played Hazoret and deserve to have my DCI number revoked”

          • Ashenmoor

Let’s talk about that after the card actually sees play, shall we?

          • Michael Pepin

Wait… is your profile just skeletor?

          • Zombie

            It’s some weird zombie token

        • Erik López Barcelar

You don’t need to intentionally throw away your hand. I mean, that simply happens in a burn deck. You won’t be keeping anything in your hand. Also, everything dies to exile or -/- counters and I dont see whats so bad about indestructible to be labeled as “a noob trap”. It still protects a creature from lots of control so Ill gladly take it on any creature. And why so much hate pal? You hate Hazoret like she killed your unborn son or something. Its not a red Emrakul but hell shes not that bad.

          • Zombie

You do if you want to attack with Hazoret.

But you shouldn’t even be playing her in the first place so eh?

          • Erik López Barcelar

Doesnt seem that bad to me but well, if after some tests she doesnt work that well its not like she’s gonna leave an irreplaceable gap in burn decks. Also, ppl not being hyped with her will make her quite cheap so yay for that.

          • Michael Pepin

See, this is what you need to work on. Don’t tell others they shouldn’t be playing with a card. In some decks, she works wonders.

          • Zombie

Don’t tell me what to say.

    • Erik López Barcelar

I think Hazoret is easy to activate, but only in a specific deck, probably burn could be atacking with her since turn 4, but will see about that after a few playtests. Gotta agree with you about Kefnet tho, keeping 7 cards in hand is quite a thing.

      • Zombie

Hazoret’s only easy to turn on if you have a literal nut draw and curve perfectly into her on turn 4.

And then she dies to exile removal or -/- effects because indestructible is a noob trap.

        • Michael Pepin

Hazoret has the best art of all of them

          • Zombie

I’m more partial to the blue bird’s art. Hazoret’s kinda generically posed and too static for a red creature.

    • Sebastian Fuchs

well the blue and green god are the best so far – for what they do and want to synerge with. the red one is the best topdeck u can get but i dont see a burn deck but maybe a vampire madness b/r deck with him?

the white is probaly the weakest so far, less synergy then the other gods and less impressive use

      • Happy The Cat

how is white the weakest? he literally just says “have creatures” which is much less of a detriment to use him than “dont have cards in your hand” or “dont play anything so you can keep you hand full”.
not to mention that the ability is way stronger, four mana: make a vigilant 1/1 is several times better than 2r: throw away a card, deal 2 but only to players.

      • Zombie

uh… what? The bird god is nigh unplayable.

        • Mov

I’m told that threat of activation of the bird will slow down your opponent enough that you won’t have to play as many spells to survive as a control deck, and thus will be able to hang on to more cards in hand. I don’t particularly believe it, but so I’m told.

Would be interesting to be able to tap out for a big cards draw spell knowing that you’ll turn on a big blocker, but since the new big card draw spell is an instant I doubt it’ll be relevant.

          • Zombie

Threat of activation only matters when the threat is legitimate.

That stupid ibis only turns on when you have a full hand, making it extremely easy for your opponent to just ignore it and do their thing.

If you sit on cards to turn on the bird instead of answering threats and keeping up with the game, then have fun getting run over.

  • Julna Buras

Okay, seriously? Why is it that white and green’s gods are easy to bring online? Also, it’s interesting that they didn’t put trample on him. I expected deathtouch to be Bontu’s evergreen ability.

    • Serj

      He will have menace.
It was obvious that Rhonas had deathtouch since he is a snake

      • Julna Buras

        That makes sense

      • Happy The Cat

my money would actually be on lifelink, with an activation that requires you to have under or over X life, and an active ability that pays life to put -1/-1 counters on stuff or something of the sort.

    • Kevan Kramer

      Red is easy as well

      • Happy The Cat

compared to “play creatures”? Meanwhile red has to put itself behind for their god to come online. also three mana Rancor until end of turn is much better than three mana a card in your hand is now a shock.

  • kmk888

This one seems like the best God to me so far given the cheap CMC and ease of turning it on.

  • Phillip Reid

Modern mono green Stompy meet your new beat stick. I mean turns on with only 4 power? easily done in that deck when you already want to run 4 rancor and a bunch of creatures with 2-5 power. Just nice. Probably not a 4 four but definitely worth 2-3 spots. Gonna pick up a few when it comes out.

  • Alexandre Donnart

Quite good with Heart of Kiran. T2 Heart, T3 Rhonas and crew Heart with him. T4 attack with both.

    • Hedronal

With another crew for the Heart t4 that is.

    • Jacob Anderson

T1 Toolcraft Examplar, T4 maybe Fleetwheel Cruiser attack for 14.

  • Evil Tactics

Yes finally a god I can bow down to. Aside from the ease of casting, good P/T, a decent ability, and general playability, I like how he can be used in the most casual ways. Fling him if needed, crew vehicles, but I think I’ll enjoy using fight with him. It makes the deathtouch really shine since he’ll take out almost anything and survive. Now I can stop complaining that Amonkhet gods aren’t godlike enough. White was decent, green is good, and still black to go.

  • DJPad

    Curves well with lambholt pacifist

  • Shagoth

Unlike the others, one use of the abilities will probably be enough to boost him to a creature in size, this is probably the best god so far.

    • potatogod442

Took the words outta my mouth, let’s see how the meta adapts

  • Lord Gonti Of The Orzov Networ

    Not bad, but why deathtouch?
    A. it has indestructible
    B. Its the god of strength, so trample would be more fitting

    • Chaospyke

Personally I always hate dt on big bodies, but it does make sense since he’s a snake.

Also dt gives him a better chance at winning battles as opposed to ‘not losing’. by that I mean dt will kill a creature w/ 6+ toughness.

      • Lord Gonti Of The Orzov Networ

True, but god of strength! I mean, cobras are cool and green, but something like an ape or rhino would be more fitting. Or even a boa/anaconda.

    • Erik López Barcelar

He’s a snake, it had to be deathtouch. Also really good with indestructible

      • Lord Gonti Of The Orzov Networ

I take your point. I just think it should, as the god of strength, have trample. But other people have different views

        • Jeffrey Zom

Deathtouch can be considered as ultimate strength! He merely has to lightly touch you with his finger and you’re dead in seconds.

          • Lord Gonti Of The Orzov Networ

True, so he destroys anything in his path and isn’t destroyed

        • Happy The Cat

well, if he had trample there would be no synergy with his monument, where playing a creature gives a target +2/+2 and trample. meaning playing a 4/x the turn after this gives you a now attacking 7/7 with mega trample.

    • Mov

Because trample would be op? 5 5 indestructible creature that swings with trample on turn 4 would be too much. At least this way you can still chump block to slow it down.

Btw the whole card reads to me like it wants trample but has been told multiple times its not allowed to have it – hence the wording of the ability as well – can’t give itself trample.

      • NothingSpecial

On the other hand, if you give it trample some other way, it having deathtouch is also a huge advantage, because even when your opponent multi-blocks to prevent trampling over, you only have to assign 1 damage per blocking creature. Either you trample over or you kill 5 creatures.

    • Curt Vandruff

Deathtouch, while mostly useless, actually makes this god amazing. It both let’s it always trade profitably (rather then being stalled by u/g gearhulks/deepfiend/colossus etc, and when combined with its ability, makes it connect for atleast 6 every turn (lethal damage=1 trample damage=6+)

      • Tyler Wilson

Can’t buff himself. Another target creature.

  • Deadly Berry

Confirmed: Wizards is full of green players. This is undoubtedly the best god.
    -Reasonable cost.
    -Good P/T.
-Steroid ability in a creature based deck.
-The condition is easy to comply.

  • Polis_Ohio

    Not a snake. 0/10

    • NothingSpecial

It literally is a snake, just look at it…. (it wouldn’t have creature type snake because it’s a god)

      • Polis_Ohio

It doesn’t have creature type snake, therefore is not a snake. It could easily be a snake god, but nooooo.

        0/10 would not cast again.

  • Bearman7775

I don’t like this God, I feel like this is one of the weaker if not the weakest God out of the. Bunch. It makes me upset that this is the only God that dose nothing progressive on an empty board when top decking.

    • DJPad

And yet, is likely the best one when being proactive.

    • Curt Vandruff

Okay so first, the black(morbid), white(battalion) are easily worse on top deck/empty board mode, atleast here any creature either hits clause or the ability will push it online, the red one was designed for that and the blue. Ones kinda mixed, but still makes the green top 2.

Second, for the type proactive decks that want this card, reaching that game state means they already lost/your opponent stabilized so the God being tuned to its strengths makes it a better card.

For the way standard is currently … it’s the strongest god, by far and slots especially well into g/r Pummeler and g/b counters/energy and allows for even more explosive games and a creature immune to push

  • MrAptronym

Meh, Deathtouch on a 5/5? Everyone seems to like this one but… I don’t see it? Definitely the worst keyword, and while the size to cost is good, requiring another 4/* makes it less swingy in that regard. The activated is decent, but I just don’t see this as very impressive.

    • Curt Vandruff

While death touch is mostly useless, it lets it win against g/u gearhulks/deepfiend also in the decks that play this, its more or less always a creature and the trample/buff is always relevant

  • Vizzerdrix

I was pretty happy with these gods being similar but still different than the theros gods, I like the blue a little more than thasa though I’d rather unlockable scry vs draw I’d rather just draw a card, and red is very different than purphorous red is prob my favorite so far, but white is pretty heliod but to me a little bit better, and this is pretty much just a worse nylea.

    • Curt Vandruff

Overall they are worse then the theros gods (vulnerable to creature removal while not a creature), and instead of providing kewords, they are imbodiments of old keywords (Green-ferocious White-battalion Black-morbid Red-hellbent Blue…um?? Draw) but they compensate by having a cheaper casting cost, an keyword and a reasonable ability.

The key is that rhoans can give itself trample, buff is cheaper and most importantly one less mana means the 5/5 attacks sooner and allows your t-4 to be more productive (atleast from a standard pov)

      • Tyler Wilson

Rhonas can’t give himself trample. Not that it’s hard to get trample in green (hell, his monument does it), but he can’t buff himself with his ability.

  • Insight66

    Timmah!

  • Sauron132

This into that 5/4 haste crocodile?
