    Better relic of progenitus?

    • Random Guy

It doesn’t cantrip or have the option for holding onto it. Worse imo. But regardless Rest in Peace tends to be better than both of them.

    • Chris Tomsky

Better crook of condemnation more like. Crook already saw ton of sideboard play, this is gonna replace it for sure.

      • Nikolai Anzuoni

Crook is meh when scavenger grounds exists.

        • Giby86 .

          Crook is meh period.

    • Alexandre Donnart

How is it better ? I don’t think we’ll ever see better than Relic at this cost. It’s fine, even great, for Standard, but way worse than Relic.

      • Joe Runyon

It’s better against dredge if it going off on turn one because it costs no mana to exile all cards in there graveyard

        • Alexandre Donnart

In this case, Nihil Spellbomb and Tormod’s Crypt are also better.

          • Matthew

I could see this as being better than Relic in many instances. You immediately get the scry, and can exile all graveyards without investing additional resources. Sure, scrying isn’t quite as good as drawing a card, but most of the time it will serve the same function, or even better, since you can tuck away a land instead of drawing it. It’s not strictly better, certainly, but I might end up swapping my Relics out for these and seeing what happens.

          • Alexandre Donnart

It’s probably worth trying, but again, I can’t see this as a better Relic, just because they don’t do the same thing. Relic exiles a card per turn and draws you a card, where this Totem is a Spellbomb / Crypt with a Scry. You usually don’t need to crack this kind of artifact immediatly unless there’s a dredger in your opponent’s grave. That’s why Relic is just better most of the time. If playing against Dredge, Spellbomb and Crypt already do it, and Spellbomb cycles later in the game when you can pay a black mana.

Nah, though I would say it’s better than Crook of Condemnation. Cheaper and gets the job done. Only upside that Crook of Condemnation has over Sentinel Totem is it hits more than one graveyard, but it includes your own. Solid card and seems possibly more important than Relic in certain decks that love Scry. I think that this card would go over Relic if it was Scry 2, which would be insanely good. Not broken, but boarder line mainstay in many sideboards as a 1 or 2 of, depending of course on the meta.

    • Vizzerdrix

I say a better tormods crypt only it costs 1 instead of zero

  • Edwin Marín Castro

A Scry version of Relic of Progenitus… Sweet.

    • Vizzerdrix

Scry version 1 drop tormods crypt

  • Shagoth

This is a pretty solid anti yard card.
That means I hate its existence.

    • Nharzhool

      its* ;)

      • Shagoth

Ugh, I’m blaming disgust’s auto correct.

  • Dragoncastermaster

could this be, within reason, as good as relic of progenitus? it doesn’t draw a card like relic, but relic requires 1 and tap to empty the yard after you’ve already payed one to cast it; in fast paced formats where you see sideboard cards like this does that one less mana in emergency situations out way getting an extra card in hand? something to think about

    • Very possibly, in a deck (e.g. Affinity) where leaving 1 mana open for Relic’s activation can potentially be a big deal and strong early-game draws are better than late-game card advantage.

  • Deadly Berry

I guess it goes down to how fast you need to exile graveyards, and if you don’t want to (or can’t) leave 1 free mana.
