• Shawn Michael Diaz

So much better than Confirm Suspicions

    • Kameenook

I like this card a lot but I would argue that Confirm Suspicions is better, I just prefer the massive card advantage it provides vs. the tempo from this card.

      • Adam Gillies

Well then play this card with Treasure Map/Treasure Cove. Either way this is just much better in my opinion.

        • Kameenook

That I can do, i will agree with you that it has better synergies, I just personally think that in a vacuum card to card the clues would be worth more than the treasures.

  • Kameenook

So an overcosted mana drain with a better effect ? Nice for EDH and possibly standard play. Could work well in the theoretical revel in riches control deck people are building

    • Caleb Martin

I don’t think this is overcosted, I think mana drain is far undercosted.

      • Kameenook

Well I think we all understand that mana drain is, in a way, broken (not the fixed counterspell they wanted it to be), but it does cost 3 more than mana drain, so for the unrealistic expectations mana drain has set before us, yes, i would say its overcosted.

  • Akisama Inu

    so mana drain for 5?

    • Kameenook

Well, better mana drain for 5

  • Njaal

An excellent card for EDH. Certainly better than Plasm Capture.

    • Kitnz

Definitely! My Rashmi deck loves flavorful/utility counterspells, but Plasm Capture hasn’t quite cut it. This new card, however, will likely replace some of more boring counterspells (since those aren’t exactly EDH-friendly for the politics side of things).

    • Tony Delfino

I was thinking of it as a card for Mizzix, most likely only a 2 mana spell in her deck that will net you a decent amount of mana.

  • Happy The Cat

good thing there’s no enchantment that straight WINS THE GAME if you begin your turn with ten Treasures.

    • Njaal

      Indeed. That would be silly.

    • Terrell Berger

      Mechanized Production?

    • Kitnz

To be fair, there’s some decent hate cards that can prevent that, Ixalan’s Binding (white) being a new one.

      • Happy The Cat

Ixalan’s Binding is a good stop to Treasure control, but thanks to this Binding becomes less of a threat, if I popped an early Treasure map I can hold up two lands to stop any spell. plus I think Treasure control is probably more of an old school Hard control like RtR usa control or Khan’s BUG control, not the new fangled aggro control y’all kids play these days. you’ll only be playing Revel when you can defend it until you win, you really don’t want to play it early cause things like Ixalan’s Binding.

    • Bobit

That’s not even close to competitively viable. You practically have to cast 3 5-mana spells and refuse using any of the treasures from them.

      • Happy The Cat

cause no control deck has ever been capable of casting three five mana spells. the idea of Treasure control is a control deck that wins with Revel, but that doesn’t mean you can never use Treasure, just that when you attempt to win the game you don’t throw away all your Treasure.

  • Dr. Burn Crow

    Sneaky pirates

  • James Veith

should range in effective cost between -2 and +1 mana. Of course, there will be times where you need to counter a fatal push, but most of the time you can get quite a few treasures. Also curves into Tishana well.

  • Eli Eyal Broide

I just turned your dinosaur into coins…

  • Jay Kilian

Treasure control is now a real thing.

  • galen150

That’s possibly good enough to run like 1 copy in most standard control decks

    • Jay Kilian

It’s a challenge at 5CMC but copies beyond the first benefit from the treasure created by the 1st (assuming you counter something with 3CMC or such). Interesting curve decision.

    • Dave

Yeah, Confirm Suspicions also had a place in some Torrential Gearhulk decks.

    • Happy The Cat

actually feel 4-of gets a massive benefit. think about it, Lets say you pick off like a four mana spell with your first one, now you just need to leave up one land and you can hold mana to counter any spell. For a hard control deck this is a very powerful tool, not to mention it’s a good economy card for Revel in Riches.

  • Grant Jacobson

UB revel in riches deck seems like it might be a thing now

    • Shawn Michael Diaz

Who needs Revel when you could Marionette and sac everything at instant speed?

      • Caleb Martin

That’s a back up wincon. Along with mechanized production.

        • Jay Kilian

I tried mechanize in a control shell with servos. That was too fragile, even with Padeem for hexproof protection. Maybe since this isn’t a critter it could work. I am skeptical. But Marionette + Revel + Treasures it could work.

        • Shawn Michael Diaz

Marionette is more reliable. If you drop Inventor’s Goggles early, you only need to sac 4 Treasures after playing her. Revel works better in a strict control build. And then I’m not sure it could be the best control finisher.

          • Happy The Cat

I think with all the instant speed removal in standard, you have to at least run one of each, once a good player knows you are playing Treasure control they’ll save enough removal to kill him when you go for the win. Having the option to play Revel into an aggro deck that probably won’t have non creature removal lets you keep a solid clock, cause Revel would get to ten before they can’t stop Marionette getting to lethal damage. plus Revel makes the god’s final spells (namely Bontu’s Last Reckoning) much more viable, I cant untap next turn? Last Reckoning just netted me five Treasure, I’m okay with not untapping.

tl,dr Revel deserves at least a 1-of, it doesn’t allow as much interaction, making it harder to stop, and it combos pretty well with cards you might not normally be able to run(or at least not run as a 4-of), but the synergy gives enough value to get away with it.

  • Edwin Marín Castro

So, you can spend a lot of mana to get a bunch of Lotus Petals… Not bad at all.

  • Shawn Michael Diaz

Honestly, I’ll take 5 mana Mana Drain with upside.

    • Marvin Sürig

Imagine countering an opponents blue Gearhulk with this to cast yours for free to counter another one of their spells xD

  • Jay Kilian

Yes, I’ve been thinking more and more about Statuary with Treasures. Which also makes me think about Pull from Tomorrow.

  • Darkray Accel

    Oo
This has potential to be better than the mana capture, much better.

  • Deadly Berry

I think it is about time for them to release a pirate that actually steals Treasure. That’d be flavorful and awesome.

    • Reyos Blackwood

Steals as in take it from you opponent, not going to happen, since opponent can just sac in response.

      • Hedronal

“As long as ~ is attacking, opponents can’t sacrifice treasures.”

        • Happy The Cat

or just make it “players can’t sacrifice Artifacts” I mean if you’re stealing the treasure wouldn’t you want to keep it? it also makes it not useless out of limited.

          • Hedronal

Good call there, much more useful. I do feel like there should be some way around it though, so it isn’t just stealing artifacts and hosing what you get from them. Maybe “Each player can only sacrifice Artifacts during his or her own turn.” I make the change because an artifact hoser and stealer seem to want to be different cards.

      • Deadly Berry

Rulings, very useful. “As X is on the stack, your opponents can’t sacrifice permanents”.

  • Edward

This is my favorite rare counter spell that has been printed in a while. It is basically a better Plasm Capture since the mana stays until you sacrifice the Treasure, it is only in 1 color, and can get benefits from decks that like artifacts. This will definitely see play in Commander and probably Standard in some control decks. Also in Commander this and Hellkite Charger is basically a win condition.

  • Giby86 .

    Jesus. O_o

  • GunbladeKnight

UG commander, this card out with Doubling Season and Parallel Lives.
