• Rovkir Hexus

    “Entry 434: There’s more to Avacyn’s madness…”

  • Breno Borges

So this is proof Avacyn is Nahiri?

    • Rovkir Hexus

It doesn’t say anything about Avacyn and Nahiri being the same person.

    • Eidorian

No, nahiri has been confirmed to be in innistrad wrecking markov manor and vengeance on sorin, she is angry with sorin for some reason

      • Jazzyboy1

She’s angry because she slept for thousands of years; and when she finally woke up, he never turned up for their date. So basically, she’s just a typical crazy woman making tons of drama because her man missed one date.

        • Kahai

He essentially abandoned her to let Zanikar die. Ugin was literally dead (originally) when she tried to calling spell at the Eye of Ugin, but Sorin has no excuse. She was left to fend off the Eldrazi herself (this was before Zendikar block).

          • Jazzyboy1

To be fair to Sorin, he was actually trying to help. He went to find Ugin, so that all three of them could save Zendikar. Sorin and Nahiri probably couldn’t have done much on their own anyway. Neither of them have the strategic knowledge to figure out how best to deal with such a complex situation. They needed a mastermind to give them a game plan. And none of the Gatewatch were fully aware of the situation yet. (except maybe Nissa, but she didn’t really know why there were big tentacled monsters roaming around yet)

Of course, Nahiri’s home plane did still almost get destroyed, and Sorin had sworn to help prevent that, so her anger is understandable.

          • Kahai

There was a mini-awakening long before Zendikar block happened. They’ve backtracked and retconned the years, but all that matters is that:

            A) Ugin made the Eye of Ugin as a means to communicate instantly no matter the distance between planes, with all three of them. If Sorin had found a problem, and Nahiri was gone, he could use the Eye to call both her and Ugin.

But what happened was that some one started messing with the Hedrons during Nahiri’s hibernation. Namely, a new species of creature not native to Zendikar, Vampires. She went to the Eye, cast the communication spell, and tried to call out for Sorin and Ugin.

Ugin, as we know, was originally dead at this time, Bolas had slain him. But Sorin has no lorebased excuse for not heeding Nahiri’s call.

            B) Nahiri, abandoned by her allies, was able to stop the awakening eldrazi by herself. After which time she left Zendikar to find out either: where her allies when, or to find out more about the eldrazi.

            C) Nahiri hasn’t been on Zendikar in some time, we don’t know where she’s been, but we do know she went looking for answers. She might be angry right now because she finally came home, only to find it nearly destroyed and she’s pissed.

    • theEternalPilgrims

I take it as more proof. The evidence is piling up for me. Others see it as Nahiri and Avacyn as different people, who happen to both be crazy on Innistrad at the same time…

      • Mr.Mayhem631

How? It talks about Avacyn going mad.
Nahiri is, as far as we know, sane but angry.
There have been Avacyn sightings recently, lorewise.
How can Avacyn and Nahiri both exist at once?

        Edit: Wait, wut?
You think that just because two people are insane, they’re both one and the same, never mind that Nahiri may not actually be insane?
        On Innistrad, of all planes?
        Gisa and Geralf? Same person.
        Gisa is also Avacyn.
Ooh, and Mikaus and Saint Traft are both dead guys, and since they also have the same skin tone?

      • Mr.Mayhem631

How goes the Avacyn is Nahiri theory?

    • Kahai

Can you show me how this means Avacyn and Nahiri were/are the same?

Sorin either: outright lied to Ugin when he told him he didn’t know where she was, or really didn’t know. Those are you options, and i’m pretty sure, even if Sorin is a very powerful ‘walker, Ugin would, and could throw him down without much difficulty.

Minor note: My view on judging a Planeswalker’s overall strength lies in their CMC. If a ‘walker has multiple cards, we average.
      Ajani: 4, Ashiok: 3, Chandra: 4.66, Dack: 3, Daretti: 4, Domri: 3, Elspeth: 5, Freyalise: 5, Gurrak: 5.2, Gideon: 3.5, Jace: 3.66, Karn: 7, Kiora: 4, Koth: 4, Liliana: 3.75, Nahiri: 5, Narset: 4, Nicol Bolas: 8, Nissa: 3.75, Ob Nixilis: 5, Ral: 4, Sarkhan: 4.75,
      Sorin: 4.66, Tamiyo: 5, Teferi: 6, Tezzeret: 5.5, Tibalt: 2, Ugin: 8, Venser: 5, Vraska: 5, Xenagos: 4

With these numbers, you could see what an outcome might be if two planeswalkers fought. Since most of them are “good”, killing isn’t what most of them do, so fights usually end in the loser just planeswalking away. I highly doubt Sorin could win against Ugin, he might be able to hurt or hinder Nahiri, but that wouldn’t be advantageous to him as he is an alliance with her and Ugin.

The theory is flimsy at best, and there is little to no lore evidence to suggest it either.

      • Vincent Godin-Filion

That’s how I see the Planeswalkers power levels too. I was just a bit sad to see Karn with a lower CMC than Bolas. He had Urza’s spark, so he should have been more powerful than Bolas, or at least equal.

      • Hedronal

I think that cmc alone is oversimplifying planeswalker power levels, but it’s still a nice and helpful metric for it.

  • MTG fan

    Who’s hands are those

    • Ben Allen

It’s Jace I think. Look at the hood.
EDIT: Or are you talking about the stone hands? I believe that’s the aftermath of Nahiri on some Vampires.

      • MTG fan

I meant the stone ones. Thanks and sorry for being unspecific about who’s hands.

  • Ryū

I like this one a bit more than Venser’s Journal.

    • Hedronal

My blue draw commander deck has a different opinion.

  • HBFF

“Jace believed Entry 404 held the key to solving Avacyn’s mystery, but unfortunately the page could not be found.”

  • MrAptronym

This is extremely my thing. Tamiyo, Investigation and Tutoring? Nice. Shame 5 is a bit costly, but the effect is potent.

  • MrAptronym

Oh no, I just realized who else left a 5 mana journal lying around: Venser. And we all know how that turned out. If they killed Tamiyo off already (or worse we get a brooding, corrupted tamiyo or something) then I am checking out of the story.

  • Kameenook

Seems like Avacyn is a werewolf….

    Lycanthropes=Moon Crazy

Tamiyo is talking about Avacyn being crazy ? Avacyn has moon problems.

  • wwww

Seems okay for EDH. Its effect is strong and every deck have access to it.

I doubt it will see plays in constructed though.

  • Dr. Burn Crow

    Oh that’s not good…

  • Happy The Cat

all right, the clue deck has it’s fetch. now all we need is the win condition that this fetches. ten seems fair right? I could do ten if they keep going as is.

  • Deadly Berry

Mono red EDH could use for tutoring; not to mention red loves sacrificing artifacts so the effect is useful from that perspective.

    • MrAptronym

Daretti EDH sort of set-up? Seems a good fit.

  • theEternalPilgrims

I’m sorry for all the Tamiyo fans out there, but this and other signs are pointing to Tamiyo’s absence on Innistrad, and possible death…
RIP in peace Tamiyo. At least your clues will help Jace save Innistrad.

    • Mike G

      How would she have died?

      • Jazzyboy1

Probably from Liliana being on Innistrad. Things do tend to just… die when Liliana’s around.

        • Happy The Cat

          like her brother.

          • HBFF

            And angels.

          • Happy The Cat

            and demons
and Ja-no wait they just dated nvm

    • MrAptronym

Pretty sure she is gone, but not dead. I am just sad her work is all going to Jace.

    • guest

she is in the full art of that card where sorin kills avycin with jace right next to her. she is alive

  • Zombie

I was thinking of ways to make this work even in EDH but good lord it’s so expensive.

5 mana to cast, 2 mana to activate the Clues…

Man this mechanic just seems so gated/underpowered.

    • Kryos

This is true. Only reason I’m even considering using it is because I have an artefact-based EDH and I can use Clues for Clock of Omens/Kuldotha Forgemaster and such as well.

      • DJ Pad

There are likely many better cards that generate artifact tokens much faster. Realistically, you probably win if you get to activate forgemaster once anyway…something like staff of nin is just better.

        • ZomboJenkins

I don’t think you understand how great tutoring is. It can be a gamewinner, especially when it’s repeatable.

    • MrAptronym

This seems like the kind of card that is either overcosted and casual or an absolute nightmare.

    • Blahblahblahbla

      It’s a trap for sure..

    • Rockstick

Yeah, but you don’t have to activate the clues to sac them, so it’s not this bad, but it’s not super good too

    • ZomboJenkins

Compare this to jayemdae tome, if you will. I truthfully like clues. Emergency draw, or good little artifacts for Artifact decks.

      • Zombie

But Jayemdae Tome is bad too.

        • ZomboJenkins

It may be, since you need four to draw a turn. This is two to draw a turn, and there is no disadvantage. I don’t think you understand how great card advantage is. One each turn. Just TWO. And you can even save them for later. IT’S EVEN A TUTOR! What is there not to like? The price is fair. If it was cheaper, it would be really broken.

          • Zombie

It also costs 5 to play, and if you want to pay 2 mana a turn to draw a card off of an artifact there’s much better cards you can play.

          • Hedronal

The point at that point is just tutoring repeatedly for me.

          • TogetherAlone

Or you could cheat it into play? Plenty of artifact stuff to go around to get this into play. Derreti for instance.

          • Zombie

Daretti is already his own consistent draw engine, so you don’t need some mediocre incremental artifact generator.

And sure, it gives him more artifacts. There’s already better artifact token generation. But why would you want to draw this over a combo piece anyway?

  • ZomboJenkins

Tutor on a stick? Count me in.

  • Hooded Shadows

This looks like it’d be fun in edh, if you could keep it alive long enough

  • Happy The Cat

I hate myself for this but jace is getting clues from Tamyio.
    It’s Blue’s Clues
    I’ll see myself out

  • Lord_of_Riots

Yikes Wizards… Just, yikes. Really missed the mark on this one. I’m really sorry for anyone who pulls this as a rare in their pack.

    • ZomboJenkins

I believe you are underestimating the power of tutors. I mean, diabolic tutor takes four mana for one card, and this is five for a crapload of tutors. In Innistrad this won’t be your only cluefinder and that means a tutor every other, if not every turn. All for five mana OF ANY COLOR. Oh, and did I mention that if you just really need to draw, and not tutor, you can just pay two mana OF ANY COLOR to draw. If you JUST want the draw, this is cheaper than jayemdae tome in the long run. This is a five drop and you can draw once per turn (or skip a draw and draw two next turn for double) for two, where jeyemdae tome is four and four, and only ever once per turn. I would truthfully LOVE to get one of these as and rare in a pack, even of I already have a whole playset. And also, the included tutor let’s you search for ANYTHING.

    • Johann Davies

5 mana seems to be the price for tutors nowadays, and this one is easy to cast, repeatable, and doesn’t require you to use mana after casting. I’m not sure that it’ll be that good, but I think it has potential.

  • Gaius_Ultima

Im pretty sure, Standardcontrol would want 1-2 of these in their decks. Imo it’s reliable draw engine, or if not needed repeatable tutor. If u case like languish t4 u evened the boards, followed by this u are in advantage.

  • jochen hendrickx

Commander players will love these. Repeatable tutor that any deck can run? Yes please

  • Elboron

I’m really liking the idea of this with the new Bygone Bishop in my Rhys the Redeemed deck for EDH
