Does anyone have a story where splice onto arcane mattered? I’m curious for a good story.

    • Hedronal

I assume there’s some standard/limited things, and at least one crazy combo with a card like this one. Now I want to hear the story too though.

Mma draft in the storm deck

Why does this card say, “may”? Like, who thinks to themselves, “Darn! I have 5 mana open! If only I had a card that did nothing to use it on!”

    • Aurore

In case someone flashes in Containment Priest and you’d rather waste 5 mana than lose the creature you were about to play forever.

    • Hedronal

Some things can possibly force you to cast a spell is why, I think. Also, there’s really no downside to having it. Oh, and you can have what you want forcedly discarded in response to this.

    • Adding onto the others: You might have an effect that triggers when you cast a spell but DON’T want to bring a creature out yet for some reason, or perhaps have no creature to play.

      • Aurore

Adding onto this, this is an arcane spell. Which means you might want to cast it without putting a creature from your hand into play, just to use your other “splice onto arcane” spells without losing them.

    • Aidan23

If someone makes you discard a card in response when that card you discarded was the only card in your hand.

    • Happy The Cat

      three reasons,
1, if it didn’t say “may”, you would not be able to cast it without the creature being revealed from your hand, due to you would have to prove you have the creature. Show and Tell has the same wording on it
2, if an opponent were to respond in a way that would cause an effect you wouldn’t want you can choose to fail to find a creature in your hand, therefore keeping the creature you wanted to cheat in.
3, as an arcane spell you can splice other arcane spells to this, allowing you to gain multiple resolutions of their effects, which can be helpful if you dont have the creatures for this, and some splice costs are also cheaper than just casting them, so that helps

Thanks. It kinda confused me at first

I think this confirms the locust god will be RU.

      Ha, got it! :)

Ugh, if only this was last year. Then someone could make a political joke without sounding dated.

I spy the pays for your box masterpiece

    • Happy The Cat

well, with non foils sitting up at almost $60 already, this might pay for that box and the box after it.

      • David Meyers

Force of Will invocation is only at 150 even now, and I can’t imagine Breach going higher than that.

  • Ecoabismo

does this implies that the locust god is red and something else? Im not sure… through the breach could put any color creature. But…
Design-wise, that the Nicol bolas gods are BU, RU, and BR is brilliant. The mana leak / impulse card, that features the beetle god in the art, makes me think that may be he is the UR god… couse of the spell matter subtheme. But he seems black in design. And this locust… dont scream RU to me.
