  • p26man

The murder king… I love this card.

  • Zesty

So how exactly does his second ability work? Can you activate the ability and put it on the stack before Tymaret dies, or would it have to target a 2nd Tymaret?

    • jeremysclone

You can use it while he’s in the graveyard. So he dies, goes to the graveyard, and then you use his ability to get him back

      • Pethrax

Exactly. Useful in case someone tries to Far/Away you, or Devour Flesh, or any other removal, you can just pop him back to your hand essentially.

      • ArcG

But the question is, how can you cast an ability of a creature from a graveyard?

I was under the impression that was impossible. Otherwise, pings (and other such abilities) that didn’t require tapping could be used from the graveyard, no?

        • Fbn Dnl Schlr

          Look at Jarad. See?

    • Jace must Die

you use the second ablility from the graveyard

    • Fbn Dnl Schlr

If you activate the ability and put it on the stack in response to him dying, it simply won’t do anything because it resolves first and then he dies.

      • Argentumdens

Actually you can pay 2 and sac Tymaret himself to his second ability, costs happen without using the stack, such as tapping or sacrifices permanents and paying mana, so he will be a legal target for his own ability. So in a way, his second ability reads “Pay 1B put Tymaret back into your hand.”

        • Fbn Dnl Schlr

Yeah, that’s right. This is also intended because. the first ability requires a different creature where the second one doesn’t. Unfortunately he’s just bad as a commander and that’s really what’s most important to me as a legendary creature.

          • Argentumdens

Other than a deck that controls other creatures, with act of treason type abilities, i agree

          • Fbn Dnl Schlr

Then why not play Lyzolda instead?

          • Zombiemaster

I’m not sure about him as commander, but if this trick really works, then he will add a lot of combo options to my zombie commander deck.

  • dude

Gonna love using this with Gravecrawler and Geralf’s Messenger… Fun times!

    • Zombie

it’s funny because neither of those will be in Standard with Tyramet, and Modern Zombies is kinda bad atm.

      • dude

Yeah, I know they won’t in Standard together and most likely won’t be winning any Modern tournaments, but playing casually is still a thing. I think.

        • Zombie

If you’re playing casual Zombies, go big or go home.

          Grim-grin bomb all the way.

  • Zombie

It’s a brand new Lyzolda and I love it.

    • Kevan Kramer

I wish he hit creatures with his first ability like Lyzolda.

      • Zombie

As do I. Suicidal/ Lyzolda Rakdos was my favorite build once Dissension rolled around.

  • Anoth

If you miss read it he is the burger king :3

    • Fbn Dnl Schlr

      I see an alter coming!

  • Ludicolo

I was hoping he would be more tribal, because I love the new Returned, but this works well. Very, very well.

  • mexican

Bad card, there’s no point in sacrificing your own creatures, this isn’t innistrad

    • James

great, card. 1)you can chump-block something, then sac it for 2 damage. 2)you can burn them for 2 if they burn your creatures 3) can generate a card advantage.

      • Steven Bryant

I really like this card but I think you may be reading it wrong, it says sacrifice “Another” creater on its red ability no “A” creature like the black one does.

    • David Fitzsimmons

Golgari in general disagrees with you. Varolz especially so. Not to mention th fact that the returned(theros zombies) are another small tribe like minotaurs, centaurs, etc in this set, they may have more graveyard matters related cards.

    • Argentumdens

You can also use it with the Door of Destiny, every time you cast him he gets bigger and yet still costs 2. If zombies are a low end tribe, or warriors for that matter, that could see a bit of teir 2 play.

    • TheZombologist

      You are literally the worst.

  • Gilligan Isle

With Varolz in standared, he will be very relevent
    jund Here I come!

  • Juanito Jones

This Guy remenbers me Jarad, but Tymaret he’s a lot faster than, because of that he have a great sinergy with Deathrite Shaman or maybe Chandra’s Phoenix in a new Jund Deck. But this will depend on the cycles of dual lands in this set, cause gonna be a little hard to play Alara colors only with shocklands(and gates).

  • TheZombologist

I look at him every now and again when I’m feeling blue. And I see how good he is at killing, and the corners of my mouth just twitch up, and next thing I know, Tymaret and I are going around with Krenko and throwing goblins at everyone.

    • Gabriel Chase

Wonderful! I enjoy setting up a Trading Post and throwing goats at everyone!

  • Fluffy017

Does his first ability do commander damage in EDH?

    • ObzdtGhstCncl

Nope, it’s only combat damage for commander damage :(
