Super excited to see this as I’m foiling out my legacy merfolk deck, and I despise the art on the grand prix foil.

  • Zombie

Aaaaaaaaaaand THERE goes any chance anyone had of this selling for MSRP.

At least it’s the same art so we won’t have Aether Vial 2.0 where the FTV version is even more than the original.

    • Happy The Cat

but it will still have the alt foiling on it. and it will have the new boarders as well. Oh, and it will now have the new font finally. (you REALLY don’t notice it until it gets pointed out to you.)

      • Zombie

FTV foiling is generally considered pretty awful by collectors. It warps incredibly easily, quickly, and badly. If you’re playing with them in anything other than double-sleeved decks, they’re probably going to harshly warp.

The reason Aether Vial is so much more expensive than the original with its FTV print is the alternate art.

That same art was used in Modern Masters, and that version is more expensive than the original Darksteel copy.

Plus collectors don’t really like the little silver dot that comes with the M15 style new border.

        • EJ

Darksteel Aether Vial is an uncommon. Modern Masters is a rare.

In terms of foil cards, the most valuable Aether Vial is Darksteel, followed by Modern Masters, then From the Vault.

          • Zombie

I’ve never seen the Darksteel version of Aether Vial sell for more than the Modern Masters version outside of the first few weeks of MMA’s initial release.

You’re forgetting that not only was Aether Vial reprinted at a higher rarity than it was in Darksteel, making it harder to open in packs, Modern Masters itself was produced in smaller booster boxes and in far smaller overall numbers of total boxes actually printed.

Long story short, there’s just simply fewer Modern Masters Aether Vials out in the world than Darksteel. And that’s why it’s a few dollars more.

          • DJ Pad

Except, like he said, the foil Darksteel version is worth more than the foil MM version. On SCG, the non-foil versions and FTV version are the same price.

          • EJ

TCG Mid on foil Darksteel Aether Vial is $64.92.

TCG Mid on foil Modern Masters Aether Vial is $54.70.

TCG Mid on From the Vault Aether Vial is $51.98.

well, at least we will have cheaper versions of jitte and DD, a non foil jitte is sitting around this things total msrp and DD was at ~$50 last time I checked plus the token will be falling somewhere between $5 to $20 over the next year based on how much it’s deck sees modern. what I dont understand is WHY this is here. we’ve had tons of lore printed cards that were pretty good(I can think of several just from the last set) and this doesn’t really have hardly anything lore wise. they could have helped drop the price of Emrakul or some of the praetors. I’ve got no problems with a cheap(er) printing of this great card but why in tfv:Lore?

          • Zombie

Jitte is a huge lore card if you’re actually really into obscure Magic lore.

Has to do with the Umezawa family and how the Jitte was used. There’s actually even an Umezawa card besides Jitte that represents the descendant of the Jitte’s original wielder.

If I recall correctly it’s from one of the Portal sets.

          • Happy The Cat

if I remember right the Umezawas were important yes, but the jitte doesn’t really line up, the only really important Umezawa was Toshi who was Myojin of Night’s Reach chosen. Jitte never made sense to me cause Toshi has just a regular katana in his art and used script magic in the lore. Jittes are basically Japan’s version of a police baton, which doesn’t really line up as the weapon of a guy that killed almost every thing he fought.
the only other important Umezawa was Tetsuo, who wasn’t even on kamigawa. also he used a bow.

    • Robert FakeLastName

dark depths likely did that too with a foil token.

      • Zombie

Yeah I can see that token being $15-$20 easy. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s even more, honestly.

        • Kevan Kramer

That token was around 50 bucks before FTV:Lore

          • Zombie

I’m undercutting mostly on the premise that FTV foiling is just generally not good, and the availability of this token will likely be far greater than that of the original Marit Lage token.

          • Kevan Kramer

Again I said before and I do agree with you that the price will be much lower. Heck, the original might drop a bit as well.
