    clooooooooooone

  • MTG fan

    Wow. What a card!

  • God Enel

One of the best Clone cards, I dig it.

  • eltratzo

jo, I herd u liek clonez, so I put clonez in your clonez so you can clone while you clone.

    ….I’m sorry.

  • KrakenHunter

More card for my sultai edh

    yay

  • prplprince

Interesting is this the first “clone” to have a second creature type? I think all throughout magic they’ve had shapeshifter and thats it. Just a weird observation from me. Love the card!

    • imoth

there was a shapeshifter ally, but that’s it.

      • prplprince

ah yes I forgot about that one! I’m trying to collect every clone in magic… how could I have forgotten about the original zendikar guy…

        • Diego Martins

That’s because all viziers are clerics.

        • ymmij X

My fav clone has always been stunt double. I once copied my opponents commander that had you search any card and take 3 while he had a demon that dealt 10 when you search. Then i just watched 26 damage go around the table and bounced it before it hit me

          • prplprince

I got my foil stunt double in a conspiracy draft and won after copying opponents platinum angel. He was at -4 life and I was at 6 and he swung with the house (couple random dudes but well over 6 damage). I flashed stunt double let the damage through, then I top decked into the void and bounced his angel. I had that guy sign my foil and keep it in the clone binder lol

          • ymmij X

That is a truely beautiful win.

          • prplprince

Top 5 fav magic moments in my life lol

          • ymmij X

One of my top 5: i was playing creature steal marchessa and a friend was playing my group hug commander deck. We were in a 4 player game and the group hug had hive mind on board. I played 3 different Theft instant/sorceries and our creatures ended up so jumbled they actually ended up staying on the wrong fields at eot. It was hilarious watching people scramble to snatch eachother’s commanders and powerhouses. One guy took back his commander with the last act of treason which ment it went back to the person who took it with another act of treason effect earlier at eot. If he’d just waited he would have got it back.

          • prplprince

lol nice. one of my favs was playing my group hug/pain deck on mtgo and all 4 of use were going head to head. they kinda left me alone because I was drawing them cards and ramping them so they didn’t care. the game goes about 2 hours when they notice that I have been slowly assembling Maze End to win. In one turn I played amulet of vigor and got my last three gates into play and won. All three of those players were going crazy in the chat and I later found out that one of the players were streaming my amazing Maze End victory

edit: maze end is one of 3 wincons in that deck btw lol

          • ymmij X

Very nice all my top 5 involve marchessa or group hug. One time i was playing 3 headed titan(3 on 3 commander with shared 120 life totals) and my opponents played the 40 plus life wincon… so i took control of it. Then they board wiped and played another wincon… which i took contol of so they wiped again and played a 4/4 flying infect and one of them took a look at my hand to drop a card. I was holding 3 more creature steal cards. I killed them with their infect next turn.

  • imoth

pretty cool. more body double effects would be nice, but the inverse will do.

  • Shawn Michael Diaz

I love that this works in Black blue zombie tribal in all formats. Also glad the token is worded perfectly

  • Dr. Burn Crow

    Shut up. That’s awesome.

  • NothingSpecial

… why does the token become white?

Regardless, this is a really great clone card.

In general, the value of some of these embalmers is going to really push exile effects, if not outright graveyard hate.

    • Ryan Sullivan

All embalm tokens are white zombies, regardless of the original color.

    • eltratzo

since flavorwise the annointed (as the white zombies are called) are servants without any agenda of their own they become white regardless of what they were doing while alive

    • Name moniker

All embalmed creatures are pure white tokens because mummy

  • Jeremy Scott

The Embalm artwork hints at Consecrated Sphinx.. so we may get sphinx before the spoilers are done.

    • prplprince

consecrated sphinx was touched by the Phyrexians so I doubt we will get that sphinx but I do see the resemblance

      • Cynical Bastards

but we got consecrated sphinx as an invocation and it didn’t look very phyrexiany but still it is very doubtful

    • Jacob Kodicovic

I think it was more of an Easter egg than anything. It would be insane if we got it, though.

    • Hedronal

What is the other version copying do you think?

  • Murilo Mazza

urgent Horribly Awry and Void Shatter against this

  • Ryū

Now this one is definitely going in Temmet. Definitely neat.

  • Kahai

    Beautiful use of embalm!

  • Kirito and Asuna SAO

This is definitely interesting, great in Commander as well

  • Shagoth

That is a great and clever combination of mechanics.

  • Shagoth

That is a clever combination of mechanics, if I do say so myself.

  • elephant tree

there should be a glow in the dark effect printed on the horns, even on non-foils

  • Chaospyke

and my really bad ally edh just got a bit better.

  • Derek Niles

    neat

  • Robert FakeLastName

why does the cmc even matter?

    • MTG fan

      For cards like fatal push.

      • Robert FakeLastName

but for them to rewrite how cloning works just so u can push it? seems a bit off. would this really be any better if cmc was not excluded?

        • eltratzo

it would clash with what embalm does since that by itself removes manacost and changes to white. on this card they had to put that outside the embalm ability since otherwise the cardtext would overwrite some of the defining characteristics of embalm.

          • Robert FakeLastName

this is the answer i was looking for. everything else is more or less meaningless, but you need your abilities clearly defined.

          • eltratzo

yeah, thats why I replied twice. I figured I hadn’t given you the answer you were searching for with the first one. glad I could help. and yes, consistency of mechanics, especcialy feature mechanics is very importent for a game with as many strange interactions as magic so making it a very high priority when building cards makes sense.

    • eltratzo

because there are cmc matters cards. i mean barring reprints this is not that likely to meet ratchet bombs and engenieered explosives but those cards do exist. and as mtgfan said fatal push IS in standard right now.
beyond that, no embalm token has cmc, likely at least partly for flavour reasons since they now have a new identity and purpose. and partly to avoid ruleswierdness. if this and other embalms retained the cost of their original or in this case the copied card we could for example have a white card that added devotion to blue. and that would be very strange (edit: though not stranger than some stuff that already exists. but there is no need to ad weird interactions when easily avoidable, is there?).

  • Will

Why is the art for this set so bad on so many levels? – Kaladesh was amazing the art here is just generic knock-off and the artistic form is horrible. Not to mention the cultural template is garbage – Why could they not mimic real Egyptian art and culture (even in a fantasy setting)?

    • Will

P.S. Kaladesh got the Indo-Persian aspect just right :) and the art depth, color, and perspectives where the best :)

    • eltratzo

you do know that creative did in fact consult an actual egyptologist to help get flavour and culture right?
Edit: granted only for some minor details regarding attitude to death.
that same egyptologist is however revieving the entire set from a historical standpoint and so far seems quite happy with what wizards did.

that said taste is subjective. so if you don’t like the art that’s fine.
I do wish however that people weren’t so fast at crying “flavour fail” when quite a few of as don’t know half as much about ancient egypt as we might think.

      • Daniel Kaine Allen

I think the flavour and art of this set is fantastic. Idk why so many people hate it. And I actually like the invocations. I think people are just butthurt because it doesn’t look like the same old magic cards.

        • eltratzo

And maybe they simply don’t like the design because it doesn’t resonate with them. Aprreciation of visuals is subjective and if something doesn’t work for someone then it doesn’t work.

as for the invocations the desiggn being unfamiliar might be part of the reason. but maybe some people just don’t like rather small art in a very prominent frame with rather difficult to read name and typeline? I wouldn’t blame them.

Is it so hard to dissagee without calling names?

  • Grant Scholz

I thought the art was fine? What did you think needed improving? (Besides the invocations, we all know they suck)

  • Chromasticore

Is no one mentioning how this guy gets around Hexproof and Shroud?

    • Mono-Blue-Home-Brew

I would assume no one is saying it because we are familiar with clones. Why do you think I love clone so much? It’s one of the FEW but powerful perks to blue.

THEY FINALLY GAVE ME A CLONE IN STANDARD

      (…that doesn’t make me produce a forest)
