Look at the top three cards of your library. Put one of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.

“When I have meditated on all outcomes, my opponent has no recourse.”

  • Zombie

It’s essentially a weaker Impulse, honestly every Blue deck in Standard can use this to great effect. It’s possible that this could extend into Modern but we’ll have to wait and see on that one. Serum Visions is still better.

Plus the foils will look awesome.

    • Yawgmoth

      Agree with your assessment 100%.

  • gabriel

I really thought this art belonged to something like a double twinflame… Anyway, as a control player who can’t play ponder in modern, i am definitely using this

  • GabrielTosh

This will be good in Ascendency Combo as commune with the gods 5-8 and it hits retraction helix. On a side note I might play this in my Eggs deck in modern

  • Ultramegalord

calling it now 20 dollar foil…..

    • gabriel

i wouldn’t find it odd if i see that.. all i know is that i am stocking at least a hundred of these babies

      • gabriel

        not the foil ones, though

    • Kameenook

I highly doubt it. Especially at a common. Treasure Cruise saw significant play, and didn’t really top half a dollar.

  • Luis Ferreira

this will be in the next banned list in modern

    • gabriel

it would if it costed 1 mana… For 2 mana, it seems ok… Extremely powerful though

      • Luis Ferreira

Wait and see this will be ban for sure

        • XC

          Just like Telling Time, right?

    • Zombie

      I highly doubt that.

This is slightly worse, maybe even, with Serum Visions, and Serum Visions is basically the best of a bad situation (the other U cantrips being banned).

Were this card CMC 1, with just U, it would likely be too good.

But at CMC 2 and having to send 2 cards to the bottom isn’t a game breaking card. Serum Visions costs 1 and digs the same amount of cards deep, but you can leave the 2 other cards on top if you want them, but sacrifices not choosing which you draw to do so.

The potential for Anticipate to see play in Modern is definitely there, but there’s not a single chance in hell it’s a bannable card.

      • gabriel

I have to agree… Although, I wouldn’t compare it so much with Serum Visions. Serum power may be better, but this is instant speed, which makes a lot of difference in control

      • Kameenook

Sleight of Hand isn’t banned, is it?

        • Zombie

          Nope.

          • Kameenook

Well I’d say that’s a cantrip, even if it doesn’t compare to Serum Visions very well.

          • Zombie

It still sees occasional play in decks like UR Storm, it’s biggest problem being its limited applications.

    • Melissa Juice

      No it won’t.

    • Yawgmoth

Serum visions is better then this and isn’t banned. Unfortunately this is only on the border of playability for modern. But for standard? This is certainly looking awesome for control.

  • Derpachus

    It’s a worse brainstorm…
    *tears roll down cheeks*

In all honesty, it is an amazing card.

    • Zombie

No, it’s a strictly worse Impulse. But Impulse is fantastic, so slightly worse Impusle = pretty darn good.

      • Happy The Cat

well one card less is actually a big difference at two mana see three it does like 40% of the job of two mana see four cause it digs less
if it let you keep one on top I’d like it

        • Zombie

Yeah, but Impulse isnt modern legal so… I guess we work with what we have.

  • Luis Ferreira

You will have card advantage and also some how you can control your draw

  • Pepper Pirate

This is just a worse Telling Time… Overhype much?

Telling time lets you fix your next draw, and bottom unneeded cards. Anticipate doesn’t give you that option.

I guess one can argue that maybe you’d need to bottom both cards, and that telling time forces you to keep two out of the three, but even in that situation, its a question of card quality, and not the cantrips’ fault.

    • gabriel

Playing blue is the opposite of playing red. It is about taking risks, but calculated risks. The less you can get in a bad situation, the better. It is less damaging to bottom a card you like than to top a card you don’t, even though this scenario only happens once in a while.
So, at least for me, this is better than Telling Time.

      • kmk888

The cards are also more situation dependent, meaning that you will more often need to bottom unneeded reactive cards. I would say this is slightly better in many decks.

        • Pepper Pirate

I would argue that the ability to control your draws is worth more than a random card. If choosing one out of three cards and fixing your next draw doesn’t answer a threat, how is drawing one out of three and drawing at random supposed to help?

Might also depend on whether you’re playing them pre-board as opposed to post-board. Bottoming dead cards is probably more common pre-board, but post-board you’re probably going to have boarded in very relevant threats, and may flip two to three answers that you’re going to want to keep.

          • kmk888

Or, more likely, there are going to be some hate cards you brought in that win the game on the spot, which means you should bottom until you find them.
When some of your cards are highly relevant and some aren’t (postboard, control/toolbox) bottoming is better. Or, put a different way, getting a random card is better than being stuck with a guaranteed dead card.

          • Gabriel

            Well put, couldn’t agree more

    • Kameenook

Not always a worse Telling Time. Situation A) No good cards at all, anticipation helps get rid of those cards faster. . B) There is only one card you want, Anticipate nerfs an otherwise bad draw. C) There are two cards you want, Telling Time beats out Anticipate. D) You want all three cards, you’re sad to see it go, but you ship one to the bottom, Telling Time is better here. Anticipate is better in two of the situations, as is Telling Time. Overall it depends on personal preference, deck choice, or just run both.

    • Yawgmoth

Yes this is probably slightly worse then telling time, but only slightly. Really it should be thought of as a strictly worse impulse, and we should be arguing if that is still good enough for standard. My thoughts are it is definitely good enough.

Obviously I’d have been happier with something like preordain, serum visions, or just a reprint of good old impulse but that’s not how wizards is doing blue anymore.

  • The Punisher

Sweet. Beautiful art, and not a bad ability at that. I can tell you all that my UB control deck will be very much… *anticipacting* this card ;)

(nobody else made the joke, it had to be done)

  • kmk888

Hey look, a balanced blue cantrip

    • Kameenook

Hey look, everyone has forgotten about Telling Time.

      • kmk888

…I said nothing about Telling Time? I didn’t say that this was the first or only balanced blue cantrip

        • Kameenook

I feel that we shouldn’t be commending this without comparing it to Telling Time. Standard playability is a much different thing I suppose.

          • kmk888

But we already did compare it to Telling Time… Right below this…

          • Kameenook

I know, but we need to go deeper.

  • Melissa Juice

Fantastic art. And a nice card to have around; wonderful at common for limited.

  • tyke5140

For two mana? I’d draft that sh*t!

  • Keoma Kaiser

oh good old times of Impulse… guess we are left to anticipate

  • Fbn Dnl Schlr

Why can’t it cost U? : Modern needs another blue Cantrip… otherwise it’s just a stellar discard BWG world -.-

    • Melissa Juice

Because that’s generally too powerful for standard. This is already damn good at two cmc.

      • Fbn Dnl Schlr

        Then make it a Sorcery… -_-

        • Melissa Juice

Instant-speed draw is a bit more fun.

  • guy who knows stuff

    HHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGG

i am going to draft way too many of theese
