    its beautiful

  • Kezvin

This looks hideous. It doesn’t even look like a Magic card anymore.

  • Jacob Kodicovic

Is this Yu-Gi-Oh? I’m not kidding, when I first came on I thought someone actually put Yu-Gi-Oh cards on the site.

    • Happy The Cat

I was thinking more pokemon since they play around with the frame much more often.

      • Reyos Blackwood

Except YuGiOh has had that whole egyptian thing going on since it started.

  • Happy The Cat

well, this is a thing…I mean at least it looks pretty even though it’s going to show wear badly without the black frame.

  • imoth

FINALLY this card gets a reprint that costs three times as much.

    • Happy The Cat

it was a future sight only card to begin with, so it already had a $7 non foil price just for being good with thaw awesome frame.
Japanese copies are hitting $85 right now so I dont think it will triple that.

  • wtf wizards

    ugly as fucc

  • Ryū

    The art is soooo good.

  • Zombie

They really needed to make the art bigger with this Masterpiece series.

I honestly hate how much of these cards aren’t art.

They give them stellar art like this and then hide it inside of an ugly border that’s even fatter than the normal card frame.

    • Hedronal

Too small art, that’s the complaint about them that I can agree with.

  • Haunter!

I’m sorry, but what is the theme of this masterpiece series?

      • Haunter!

If that’s what it’s supposed to be, it’s incredibly unclear.

I always associate Dark Ritual and Royal Retainers as control cards.
A lot of the others are really on the edge anyways, stuff like Worship, Chain Lightning, and this card could be used in control but are used a variety of decks. Worship is usually some odd combo, chain lightning is almost always all in burn, and this card is in Death and Taxes/Hatebears, a midrange/aggro deck that passively controls.

    • Reyos Blackwood

All but 7 of the cards counter or destroy (6 if you count chain lighting as destruction) so lets look at the six –
      Mind Twist – Discard
      Consecrated Sphinx – Card Advantage
      Dark Ritual – Mana
Aven Mindcensor – Opponent Deck Control
      Worship – Loss prevention
      Loyal Retainers – Reanimation

Discard fits in easily with counter and destruction, no cards to play nothing to counter or destroy. The two flyers on the list are also control, control over your own hand and over the opponent’s deck. Ritual as a mana boon fits in a little less, and the other two even less than that, but all but three can be seen as some form of control, the theme is definitely control, though I will admit I am surprised they got away from card types and into archetypes.

control that fits with the egyptian theme. you’ll notice that white and black are the most saturated thus far.

      • Haunter!

Given some of the cards spoiled today, the theme seems to be more based around the five gods, not necessarily something as ambiguous as “control”.
