Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis - M13 Visual Spoiler

Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis

  • Color: Black
  • Type: Legendary Creature - Demon
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Set:

Whenever Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis attacks alone, defending player sacrifices a creature.

Just like with M12 and bloodthirst, they’re changing the colors from previous cards with the mechanic. Also, just like bloodthirst, this might be foreshadowing the previous set it was in. After bloodthirst, we’re going back to Ravnica, where it’s from. So maybe after Ravnica we return to Alara? That might be nice, to have a multicolored theme in standard for a while. There’s also colored artifacts, cascade and devour in Planechase, so I can definitely see a return to Alara.

the question is, will we be seeing Alara or Kamigawa as it seems we have elements of both hitting the floor…

Set wise, I think Alara pairs up better with Ravnica than Kami does, if just for the whole Multicolor thing. Having a standard format filled with two multicolored heavy blocks seems fun on paper. Potentially not as good in practice, but I’d love to see it. Kami + Ravnica wouldn’t exactly be horrible though, nor would Ravnica + Any New Plane.

Well he specifically mentions Alara in his name, so I’d say it’s completely within the realm of possibility…

And now, black creatures with exalted would work nicely with the black mechanic from Avacyn Restored giving boost to the creature when it’s the only one you have on the battlefield. Some additional enchantments and you gain multiple bonuses for having one creature and obviously attacking alone.

Thats true… except Exalted relies on having a bunch of instances of Exalted on the field, which predominantly comes via creatures, and AR’s Loners work by being the only one on the field….
