      Yep will help against esper, w/u and mono black. I just wish she was human! 3/1 is nice though.

      Doesn’t quite nullify UC, unfortunately. They can still draw exactly one card on your turn.

        it makes their divination dead and sphinx’s revelation worse. but they will probably get rid of it before they cast revelation so its a mute point.

          Think of what U/W would have to do to kill it, though. Azorius charm only works on attacking/blocking creatures, and wrath would take a chunk of mana. Even if they’re running Esper, forcing them to waste a kill spell in order to to draw answers is a great deal for a 2-drop.

    Seems like a good beater in monowhite and a good way to make sure they don’t fall behind in cards because they normally don’t run much card draw themselves.

    I’m curious why (flavor wise) this is a 3/1. Labyrinths aren’t really offensive or fragile things. Seems more like a 1/3 to me.

      this is not the labyrinths physical side bt the spiritual side and spirits are very fragile.

        Remember when Imposing Sovergner was just, ‘Sideboard’ material? Its a decent two drop! That stops so much card advantage from your opponents. Super playable.

          I play mono-white Devo. All of my 2 drops are double white, So, I might side board this, but would never mainboard it.

      Works well against Griselbrand as well, Ponder, Preordain, Divining Top (draw aspect anyway, some of the time), Jace, Enchantress, TIme Spiral etc. Seems like it could have a spot in Death and Taxes

    definitely legacy playable even if it’s just in the side board, especially around where I live. 75% of the decks I play against are blue and have plenty of card draw. Casting it is basically saying here is your first counterspell target.

    I have a question about this card: When you dredge does that count as drawing a card even if it’s a replacement effect therefore making it so you can only dredge once?

      702.51a Dredge is a static ability that functions only while the card with dredge is in a player’s graveyard. “Dredge N” means “As long as you have at least N cards in your library, if you would draw a card, you may instead put N cards from the top of your library into your graveyard and return this card from your graveyard to your hand.”

      So no. A dredge is a replacement effect, meaning that the drawing does not take place at all. If this baby is on the field someone can still draw 1 card and then dredge as many times as he can on his other draws.

        Actually, it doesn’t quite work like that. The spirit checks to see if you’ve drawn a card this turn, and if the answer is yes you don’t get to draw. That means that there’s no draw to replace with dredging. However, if the first draw of the turn is dredged rather than drawn, the spirit doesn’t count that as a draw, and the dredger is free to continue about their business.

    What about mono blue? anyone thought of how this weenie totally kills their bident draw engine? (so would that by itself cause them to main board more jace and less bident?) I will definitely be main boarding these for my white weenie-R/W/B midrange deck.

    Ok. Lets talk stats. 3/1 for two? That’s a decent trade on manna, aggros favorite kind of creatures and cost. Do you guys remember how great Thalia was against the control decks of last standard. This gall kicks it up a notch! Stops some of the storm combo decks, stops Sphynx’s Rev. Stops mono blues trident trigger. I love this guy!

    Hello, X/White Aggro sideboard answer to every deck with Blue in Standard.

    And also this isn’t that powerful in Eternal.

    Legacy: You play it turn 2, they Bolt it and Brainstorm. Good job wasting your turn 2 and then possibly losing the next turn.

    Modern: Bolt, Helix, Path, etc…

      You could always vial it in in response to brainstorm. And you have mother of runes to protect it from bolt.

        2 for 1 means they have to spend 2 cards to ‘beat’ yours.

        Bolt is beating the creature, as it would already if it weren’t another creature. It’s just got “This creature is targeted by Lightning Bolt this turn”.

        And then Brainstorm is played per usual. Brainstorm and Lightning Bolt are happening, whether you like it or not. Bolt will kill either this, a Stoneforge, Deathrite, Goyf, etc. Whatever it is, Bolt is killing it, then Brainstorm is being cast.

        All Spirit of the Labrynth has over the others is a Lightning Bolt target on its forehead, where as the others are all maybes.

        Not to mention Brainstorm fixes your now lacking hand by filtering your top 3 and putting back what you don’t need at that point in time.

            My logic is that Bolt is probably going to be killing your turn 2 play regardless, so Spirit of the Labyrinth taking a Bolt to the face isn’t a “2 for 1” if they Brainstorm afterwards.

            If you played a Goyf, Mom, Deathrite, Ooze, Delver, whatever… It’s probably going to be Bolted in the face and followed up with a Brainstorm on turn 2. All Spirit of the Labyrinth has over the others (except for Mom) is that you HAVE to Bolt it first and on your turn, instead of Brainstorming EoT on your turn then Bolting at the beginning of combat step. That’s it.

            And the others are all infinitely more relevant mid-late game than a 3/1.
