  • thoughtsneeze

I know it isn’t Tibalt, but I really want it to be Tibalt. If only Tibalt could arrive on Theros, become a god somehow, and forge himself a brand-new, not sucky planeswalker card.

    • MtgMind-Welder98

      THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!! :D

  • Toby

two color gods in born of the gods?

    Iroas (RW)
    Karametra (GW)
    Kruphix (GU)
    Ephara (WU)
    Anthreos (WB)
    Phenax (UB)
    Keranos (UR)
    Mogis (BR)
    Pharika (BG)

these 9 gods are mentioned in the flavour text on theros card. there is one color combination left RG. Could Xenagos be a minor god (-planeswalker) unsatisfied with the work of the main gods?

“Why pray to the gods, who feed on your worship? Dissolve your illusions and see the true nature of things.”
    -Xenagos, the Reveler

    • Red

If this would be true, I hope Phenax would be an exile mill god

      • MtgMind-Welder98

        Agreed.

Wizards:”We are glad you guys like Ashiok.”
Us:”Yah he’s great! But, where is all the mill or exile spells?”
        Wizards:…..
        Us:…..
Wizards:”SSSOOOO…you guys exited for Born of the Gods?”
        Us:”Yah we are!”

Lol I hope they create more add ons in BotG or JitN :D

        • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

You see if they did that my B/U exile deck would faint. . .

          • MagicGALAXY

            Yah same here man :D

    • Red

Where did you find the Phenax Flavor text?

      • Toby

Phenax doesn’t really appear in a flavor text but there’s the Disciple of Phenax.
So if Phenax would be a god he certainly would be UB because there are 3 other B gods already: Anthreos, Mogis, and Pharika.

I found an entry in the greek wikipedia called Phenakes. It has something to do with greek mythology and the last two words in this wikipedia entry are φέναξ = απατεώνας. (fenax = apateonas)

Google translate says that apateonas means swindler, fraud or crook.
To me this sounds quite UB

    • Ian Muir

This makes a lot of sense to me. However, I would guess that they might be demi-gods? Since all of the gods have a devotion mechanic, I don’t know if that would work for multi-colored. Being able to use 2 colors for devotion would be cool, but potentially overpowered.

Other than that, I would not be surprised to see the creatures you mentioned show up in one of the other sets in the block. Good call.

      • noobnein

maybe like how dragons maze had those ten legendaries, born of the gods could have the same idea with those 2-color demi gods, but i think a devotion effect could be overpowered. A heroic effect would be more flavorful and definetely be intresting, seeing how the dual colors work in theros

    • Jacob Shulman

It would make since, with all the satyr r/g like Hedonist and destructive revelry

    • Zombie

Yes, Xenagos is the RG god in Journey into Nyx. Wizards confirmed it after the art with Xenagos fighting Ajani and Elspeth was leaked.

  • lordofthesheep

Guys this is quite obviously xenagos. if you wish proof, look on his face, he has the two same handprints as xenagos.

    • Twis7edMage

What if it is a descendant of xenagos or a worshiper?

  • golgarithug

doesnt this set symbol look like xenagos’ head?

    • MtgMind-Welder98

Agreed. More of it looking like his horns not really his head :)

  • MtgMind-Welder98

I am guessing BotG has around 79 commons, 44 uncommons, 33 rares, and maybe 10 mythics? Hopeful, at least the commons, are better in this set.

    • Morgan Ivan James Campbell

I think their will be 79 commons, 43 uncommons, 33 rares, and 10 mythic rares

      • MtgMind-Welder98

But isn’t there 156 cards in this set?

      • Gray

        10 mythic rare guild-gods,,,

sounds amazing and a guy can dream but im pretty sure it wont happen

        • Morgan Ivan James Campbell

5 of them being gods and the others monocolored

        • Matt Abraham

if anything i think they’ll spread the 10 demi-gods out amongst the next 2 sets, giving us 5 gods per set of theros block.

          • MagicGALAXY

I’d pay to see that :)

        • Brown

or maybe 5 mythic guild gods in “born of the gods,” then the other 5 in “journey into nyx”

  • Xinck

There might be a Blue-Green Planeswalker If anyone remembers duels of the planeswalkers 2012 Kiora Atua? She resembles something of a god and would be a great addition to this set I think.

    • TehBadaxe

I’d been hoping for her in each set since Gatecrash. Lol, she could be in this set, but I doubt it if they make Ajani G/W :/

      • Xinck

Well Hopefully they will see she would be perfect for this set. I run B/U/G Now so im hopping she’ll help with that.

        • TehBadaxe

Haha! I let a few friends borrow/have a bunch of the UG cards from my BUG for a Bant, and a UG Blue-Devotion deck, so if she really does, I’ll need those back… She seems like she’d be cool though, and would probably make RUG pretty viable too. What themes did she have about her in 2012? Was she known for transmutative spells? Or just making creatures and unblockablility? UG does a lot, so I’m wondering what they’ll focus on. I hope she has a -2 of turn to frog… Lol

    • Morgan Ivan James Campbell

or Dack Fayden might be in the next set, because Ajani is going to return in the third set

  • Aelyn

So Xenagos went apeshit and turned himself into a god?

    • SteelWizard

If you look at the lore booklet in the fat pack it states that Xenagos is trying to make himself a god after his planeswalker’s spark ignited. Could possibly be a link to the new gods being dual color planeswalkers converted to god cards from planeswalkers. If these new multi-color gods work on devotion it could be where the devotion to both colors makes them trigger instead of a single color. This could either be the same threshold as the current gods of higher because it could be easier to have cards count twice for it like Burning-Tree Emissary.

  • Edward

There might be a multi colour demi god , but i seriously don’t think that wizard will make a multicoloured with devotion ability god . I think that a heroic might be more reasonable

  • Edward

Highly chance of demi-gods but none of them would be as strong as the ones currently now

  • ishumprod

these stars on xenagos body remember me of Bestow creatures.. i smell for bestow AND devotion creatures. ( semi-gods, probably)

    • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

      Demi not semi . . .Demi. . .

      • richardshort2001

You don’t know, maybe he meant gods that were cut in half.

    • Graymalkin86

The stars on ‘em is just basically the way of showing that the creature is an enchantment. The gods, emissaries, and nymphs all have them.

  • someguy123

What would be cool would be if the demigod grew because of your opponents devotion to either of the demigod’s two colors.

    • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

It would but I doubt they would see allot of play. . . .

    • Hammy

Thatll never happen because of NWO, but it would be interesting nonetheless

  • Zackrey Saunders

Ok all of you worried bout the duel devotion it could be that they have one ability if you have enough devotion to one of their colors, and it gains another ability if you have enough devotion to its other color.

    • TehBadaxe

These lesser/demigods will have some type of devotion mechanic to them, seeing as Mogis and Phenax have Devotion-based creatures, They also seem to have more to do with mortals really. The 5 mono-colored gods seem to be like “yeah, it’s cool that you’re worshipping me and all, but I’m not gonna grant you powers or anything”. They have no cards like “Erebos’ Priest” or “Thassa’s Philosopher”. They only have their Emissaries and weapons. Whereas these multicolored ones have Fanatics, Disciples, Prophets, and a bunch of other things. It almost makes it seem like these new gods will just give us extra-devotion in each color that they provide, or maybe making one color count for another in Devotion. (Obviously not possible with either, because then Reckoner and Nightveil Specter become even better..) I just find it interesting when you notice the ties between the gods and their servants/ways of presenting themselves in Theros. And I’m excited to see what mechanics come out in Born of the Gods.

  • Anthony

Anyone come up with a theory that Xenagos is “Born Of The Gods”? instead of finding a way to become one he was the whole time showing his true power or something like that? PS that art looks amazing of him! js this theory is kinda dumb and obvoiuse but thought i would point this out to anyone who hasnt noticed

  • TehBadaxe

Xenagos just seems so Jund-y. His horns remind me of Bolas, and it makes me hope that Bolas struck a deal with him and made him a god… And also controls him (While letting him retain G). And that he gets reprinted, or that they make a new Bolas. I always have crazy hopes and theories though, and I don’t think this one will come to pass… Lol

    • that guy

I actually think that Bolas may show up because there is a picture spoiled of Elspeth and Ajani and Xenagos. Last I checked Bolas wanted Ajani’s head on a silver platter so it would make sense and I can totally see Xenagos because with Bolas. Heck maybe Sarkhan will show up. They can all go have a nice big planeswalker smackdown

      • TehBadaxe

I like the way you think. Haha, in the Theros trailer, Heliod mentioned how he needed Elspeth to be his champion, since he sensed that a great, dark, and evil force coming to Theros. It showed Xenagos’ face, but then what looked like kinda Bolas horns afterwards. And that would make sense for there to be so many planeswalkers, since they now have 2 planeswalker removal spells, and more planeswalkers in a set =’s more money for wizards.

  • wubba1

A tri color anything would be ridiculous for the theros block, but seeing as no one is really using tri colors a whole lot (or at least to what I’ve seen) Xenagos would be horrifying as a planeswalking god.

    • aced420

i run red white black all heroes and bestow with enchantments

    • Evan Woods

USA Control and RBW Midrange are where it’s at.

    • Shadow921

      esper control

  • NYX

PLEASE MAKE A GOD NAMED NYX IN THE THRID SET AND MAKE IT THE MOST BADASS CARD EVER

    • Graymalkin86

No. In Theros Nyx is just the place in the sky where the gods live. That’s like saying that Mount Olympus should be a god.

      • FromHades

        Where is Hades from?

        • pola

          Tartaurus.

          • Bobby

actually he is from kronos and rhea and is from olympus just rules in the underworld

      • Nyx

It could be like the embodiment of the Nyx such as their is a god named Nyx in greek mythology which is the embodiment of the night and there is a god named tarturus which is the embodiement of evil and their is a goddess named gaia which is the embodiment of the earth

Sorry im not good at grammar

        • Andy Richmond

Legendary Land possibly? I feel like they’re gonna print Nyx somehow…

          • Nyx

How about a land that turns into a creature

          • Bman1371

            MUTAVAULT ON STEROIDS.

          • NYX

            YES

          • Bobby

this would probably be the best way to do it seeing in greek mythology places like tartarus, and the earth which is gaea can have physical embodiments.

          • Nyx

            Exactly

        • SteelWizard

Gaia was a titan that was above the gods. Could mean titan creatures that are also planeswalkers? Now that would be crazy.

        • Shadow921

          says nyx

      • hi

You guys forget that in Greek myth “Hades” is both the name of the place AND the god who rules it. Why wouldn’t the same be possible for Nyx?

      • Jonathan

        That would be AWESOME

    • Graymalkin86

Also, the third set is called “Journey into Nyx”. Making Nyx a character instead of a place makes that title pretty…inappropriate.

      • NotAGod

Oh my god! I can’t stop laughing

    • dart

nyx is where the gods live, not a god, though it could be a badass land card…

  • Jolley

I’m personally running two separate two color decks which have undertones for the three that aren’t as particularly needed for main use…Running the usual combo of green, red because Theros has amazing mana rampage for green, and red works fairly well as a support color so far in terms of powerhouse low cost creatures. On the other side i’m running primarily a blue/white which takes the Azorious methodology of gain life, make tokens, freeze the best of what my opponent has and fly by the rest.

          • YukYuk

Jace is like the most printed planeswalker. I’d be happy if they gave him a break so we could see more tezzeret or tamiyo

          • MagicGALAXY

            Agreed.

At least put Tez and Tam in furture blocks, but sure I can live without Jace in Standard Core for a while :)

  • byronof12

I think we need caged sun to come back. It would he so amazing for any devotion deck.

  • Bring Zendikar back

I want the next block after this to be Return to Zendikar. Storywise from what i have read, the planeswalkers that were trying to stop the Eldrazi left to find answers to the Eldrazi threat since they rose again. I beleive it was sorin(the guy who helped inprison them originally, he is a vampire so he has been alive for a long time) went to innistrad to look for a answer. Then Jace went to Ravnica. So now that gods have been uncovered will they return to Zendikar with the help of these gods to stop the eldrazi???? Epic Eldrazi vs. Theros gods battle. Hell yes.

    • rohdey

      Annihilator beats god enchantments :P

      • AdventureMormon

        That would be a problem…

  • aced420

need a new chandra in here

    • Targaristerathian

no, stop, too many bad chandras, they wont print a good one, ever. (good as in can be used in something other than in a mono red deck) the newest chandra is okay, however shes used very little.

      • Raynbag

The newest Chandra is “OK”?! Are you for real bro?!

      • TehBadaxe

Pyromaster is pretty good… In standard, the only planeswalker better than her is probably Elspeth. The +1′s ability to make a creature unable to block, and deal 1 to a player is good, and the 0 is amazing, seeing as that makes her extra draws per turn for only 4 mana… Since I don’t have her in a burn deck, her ult isn’t exciting, but that +1 making Cerberus unblockable and 0 to get more kill spells is amazing. I would play 2, maybe 3 of her in a deck if I could.

  • Alienrager

Fetchland reprint, DAT WOULD BE SO EPIC

    • certee

I feel the filter lands from shadowmoor and eventide could be more appropriate to the possible dual color devotion of demigods

      • Nathan

Let’s be honest. Standard doesn’t need more Dual Lands. Aren’t 8 for each color enough? Besides, Burning Earth is still in standard so I can’t see new lands/reprinted lands like that being relevant.

        • PolKaRoo

Lrn2math bro, 12 (gates, shocks, temples) for some and 8 for others….soon to be 12 for all.

          • Nathan

I didn’t count the temples because we don’t have the full spectrum yet. We still need Temple of Azorius, Temple of Rakdos, Temple of Selesnya, Temple of Izzet, Temple of Golgari for the cycle to be finished. The 8 I was referring to were 4 Shocks and 4 Guildgates.

    • guy

you want the fetchland’s at the start of the set and not the middle and definitely not the end. the whole purpose of reprinting them would to be to increase supply, and the first set of an expansion would give the best results for supply.

    • pandith

They probably won’t reprint those in this block. But I can see it happening sometime. They need to make modern more afforable somehow.

  • certee

So gods are more powerful than planeswalkers, but gods cannot planeswalk? Or they just choose not to in order to be worshiped.

    • RobertM

I think you’re right. They are the ultimate power in their plane but are stuck on that plane. Planeswalkers on the other hand vary in power and can planeswalk.

      • Random Commenter

Perhaps It’s not a matter of choice but circumstance. These gods are the fundamental foundation on this plane. Do you think the inhabitants can live, if their Sun just planewalked away? Even If he came back, think of the chaos that would bring… I could be proven wrong, but that’s my thought for now…

        • Jonn Danyls

Think about Karona on Dominaria. She was the full embodiment of mana and power, but venturing away withered her and her home plane. These Theros gods are very possibly bound the same way, such that without their home and the worshipers that live there, they will lose all their powers. Thus, the devotion mechanic.

  • RobertM

‘When Aurelias breast convinced him to join the Boros’ L.O.L.

  • Bring Zendikar back

We must have read different stories. Nissa didn’t release the eldrazi. Technically jace chandra and sarkhan vol did. Sarkhan vol wanted to pledge himself to a worthy dragon. He came across nicol bolas who is evil. He pledged to him seeing his immense power. Nicol bolas then sent him to investigate the eye of ugin where upon he found chandra, he fought her. Then jace came in looking for chandra and saved her. Having all three of these energies unlocked the mechanism that held the eldrazi. This was bolas’s intention but he sarkhon didn’t know that. So from my understanding nical bolas was the one who unleashed them. Then it said the jace went to ravnica in search of help. sorin went to innistrad since the people who he orginally imprisoned them with were dead to look for help. sorin is a vampire so he lived for a long time and helped inprison them orginally.

    • TehBadaxe

Being a vampire doesn’t mean anything age-wise in regards to being a planeswalker, right? I thought planeswalkers were fairly immortal, and have to be driven insane or have the head caught in a plane and destroyed to be actually killed..

      • Bring Zendikar back

That is correct. And I found out that dome of what Gaston said was true most of it actually. I didn’t read a complete story as it turns out but the story I read that was complete did say that jace went to ravnica in search of a way to stop it.

      • Bring Zendikar back

But regardless zendikar was a fantastic block and we should see another one in the near future. With all of this god stuff coming out in the theros block. I want a theros vs eldrazi set. That what be great

  • Larry Lane

Anybody think they will stuff a modern staple into this set somehow?

  • Machaka

Actualy, what I have in my mind…Nicol Bolas was once defeated by tetsuo Umezawa and he sweared vengeance. Now, when tetuo Umezawa is dead, there is his descendant Toshiro Umezawa. I could imagine Bolas plans to take the Eldrazi to Kamigava, to take revenge…and seeing the myojins, the kami to fight alongside the poeple, samurai and foxs against the ultimate power of eldrazi, because the eldrazi are in fact consuming planes – so the real living world and the spirit world could stop to exist.

    • TehBadaxe

It seemed to me like Bolas wanted the Eldrazi free, so they and the Phyrexians would fight each other. I just thought Bolas really didn’t like Phyrexians, seeing as he did help fight against Phyrexians during the Invasion of Dominaria. This is coming from a guy who gets most of his Magic lore from word of mouth though, so I understand if I’m off, but it is obvious that he’s plotting something, seeing as it’s been hinted that he’s been involved in each of these planes we’ve gone through.

If they print a low-curve black card in BotG that exiles creatures, I’ll be a little more convinced that Bolas is coming, seeing as there are already blue&red exile effects in standard. Just needs to be something similar to Sever the Bloodline or an exile-Terminate even.

      • Ultramegalord

uh. fairly certain bolas was in limbo until timespiral when venser let him out so…he was out of phase during the invasion.

        • Ultramegalord

also myojin of nights reach could planeswalk thats how umezawa ended up on dominaria , also nicol bolas had his revenge in timespiral block nights reach knew nicol bolas was after her so she gave leshrac a mask that collected black abilities such as nicols hand destruction, the power of rot and death. he almost defeated nicol bolas. but nicol took out his trophey the mask of the myojin of nights reach took all 3 powers and used them on leshrac. so in short nicol bolas allready killed the myojin of nights reach because she was the reason umezawa was on dominaria in the first place.

    • ZedWrecker

Toshiro happened before Tetsuo, I thought, and at the end of the novel, it has Toshiro coming to Dominaria to establish the line there that would lead to Tetsuo.

  • MagicGALAXY

    XENABROS!

  • dude

the picture is to be rumored as the new BR Planeswalker.

    • MagicGALAXY

ME: SWEET! We will have our first BR PLANESWALKER!!!
      SOMEONE: But what about Shar..
EVERYONE: NO!!! DON’T EVEN START THAT!!!

      • ZedWrecker

Sarkhan is a perfectly decent planeswalker. No, he can’t gain loyalty, but if he could, you’d be spamming dragons out of everyone’s butts. Sarkhan serves his purpose. Let the dude abide.

        • MagicGALAXY

I know. He isn’t that bad, but I just wished he was more flexible with is abilities. Not saying make him impossible to stop, but just enough to work with him longer than just 3 or 4 turns :)

        • AdventureMormon

You could always use a few Contagion Engines to keep his loyalty counters high.

    • derp

Art looks more godlike than planeswalkerish. I’m guessing we haven’t seen the end of the gods in the block.

    • Christhor

looks like xenagos become a god

    • Bobby

I dont know how they are gonna work xenagos but that is him, he wants to become a god and it looks like he accomplished that by the starry dark night where his shadows would be. Not sure how it would affect his planeswalker status.

    • Panos Valkanis

no it must be Mogis the new BR god. There are many references for him in theros both in black and red.

  • Awesome Dude

My Brother asked if that was a picture of Nicol Bolas. LOL!

  • SPONagle

xenagos becomes a god/planeswalker. hopefully we’ll see ajani too.

  • Adam Hayes

I think we will see a god of each color combo in the last 2 sets of the Theros block. Also, more demigods than in Theros. Along the lines of the Emissaries but human and with different abilities.

  • Machaka

if you readed the article on daily mtg, you would see, there was written they have 10 Gods to be reprinted, 5 for BoG and JINyx. Also, I think to become a god, you will have to give away your planeswalker spark. Gods are allpowerfull beeing on one plane, but can’t planeswalk so I think he will have to give up his spark – to rule one planes absolutly, but give up all others.

    • Hammy

Hmm, interesting, but if you are power hungry and want to rule absolutely, wouldn’t you want to rule EVERYTHING, not just a part of the multiverse?

Sounds very Nicol Bolas-y to me. But I think if one truly wanted to rule over all, he wouldn’t settle for one plane if he had access to all of them.

    • ZedWrecker

How the hell does one “readed?”

  • kintendoaddict

personally i hope that there will be multi-color gods. like the god in steam augury’s flavor text, “Keranos is a fickle god, delivering punishment as readily as prophecy.”

    • ImperialSunlight

There’s already art for Iroas floating around and it looks pretty authentic given the statue in “Priest of Iroas”. I’d say getting multicolour gods is very likely.

    • Hammy

It is confirmed for all 10 combinations. 5 in Born of the Gods, 5 in Journey into Nyx. They will be the lesser gods that form a Council of the Gods.

  • wondering

i wonder if there will be a planeswalker god as well…

    • INFORMED Voter

Planeswalkers are already too powerful to become gods of just one realm. A god of the planeswalkers would be interesting if they ever did a whole planeswaker based block, I doubt it’ll ever happen though.

      • Zombie

It’s funny because the entire story arc of Born of the Gods and Journey into Nyx revolves around Xenagos’ goal of ascension and his actual ascension to Godhood, and also being super evil overlord- levels of crazy.

You know that art of Xenagos at the top of this page? That is confirmed legitimate Wizards art of God- Mode Xenagos. The full picture shows Ajani and Elspeth facing him down.

        • ZedWrecker

@INFORMED Voter – YOU DONE COME TO THE WRONG NEIGHBORHOOD, SON!

  • woots

    TITANS

    • AdventureMormon

      I certainly hope so.

  • RandomStrangerJustPassingBy

My guess is that Nissa Revane will make an appearance in either Born of the Gods or Journey into Nyx, and not “even though” there are no elves in Theros, but exactly BECAUSE there are none. A lot of elf-players were disappointed when Wizard announced there’d be no elves in Theros, so I guess Nissa will show up to give the pointy-eared guys at least some support. Yeah, I know, a tribal-based planeswalker without any presence of itś tribe may seem a little misfit, but hey, itś the elf-tribe! She can throw elf-Tokens to get the tribal going all by herself. It may actually even fit into the Story: I mean, she left Zendikar to find a way to seal/kill the god-like Monsters named Eldrazi. Is there better plane to search then one inhabited by actual gods and monster-slaying heroes?

    • Grum

There weren’t any elves in all of Innistrad block. I don’t think Wizards is too concerned about not printing any elves in a set that flavorfully should not have them.

      • RandomStrangerJustPassingBy

Actually, this is kind of supporting my point: Inistrad didn’t have any elves. Both Return to Ravnica and Scars of Mirrodin had hardly any good ones. Elvish Archdruid wasn’t reprinted in the Core Set for the first time. The last time we have really seen some serious elf-support was in Zendikar! It’s about time for one of Magic’s most favorite tribes to get back in the game, and it’s most likely going to be in the next set, and not in the flavor-wise not matching Theros, I agree with that. But Wizards likes to do…let’s call it “trans-block foreshadowing”. Introducing new-Nissa now and giving her full support in the Block after Theros would match Wizards style.

        • noworldforeric

they already said no elves in the entire realm of theros block o_o

          • RandomStrangerJustPassingBy

As a Planeswalker, Nissa doesn´t have a creature type, and if she were to throw some Elf-tokens, the set would still be without any actual Elf-Cards yet giving them some support. Unless she´d read “search you deck for an Elf-Creature” in any of her abilities, she´d be usable even in a set without any actual Elf-cards.

        • Hammy

But if it doesn’t match flavor, Wizards wouldn’t do it in the first place. Adding something completely out of left field would just undermine the entire block. “Its a Greek Mythology block, inspired by all the great fables of Greece…just ignore this Elf Planeswalker that has no business being here. We have a creature quota to fill here, people.”

Try again in the next block. If it wouldn’t make sense, you can guaruntee Wizards won’t do it just because its been a while since they last did it.

          • RandomStrangerJustPassingBy

Originally, they wanted to introduce the Planeswalkers in the Time Spiral Block, as they would have perfectly matched the flavor of that block, but they didn´t make it in time, so they were introduced in Lorwyn instead. Lorwyn, a set without any humans had 4 human planeswalkers and 1 leonin one. They didn´t fit in the setting of Lorwyn, and that´s exactly why it was the perfect time to introduce them: planeswalkers are interdimensional “aliens”. Unless it´s their home-plane, they ain´t supposed to match the flavor of a block(best examples: Sorin from Zendikar-Block, Tamiyo from Inistrad-Block, Venser from Scars of Mirrodin-Block).

A Planeswalker not matching a Block’s flavor can never be a reason to not include him/her, it’s the opposite! Did you expect Elspeth to show up in Scars of Mirrodin? Or to see Garruk in Inistrad? When it comes to Planeswalkers, you cannot argument with the story/setting of a set or block, you have to look at his/her own story. And a short trip to Theros would fit into Nissa’s story perfetly. Maybe she´s gonna aid Elspeth and Ajani in their fight against Xenagos, hoping to find a method to kill a god(-like creature) this way.

  • ThatMagicPlayer

me and a friends are thinking, they might print a champion of each god now they already have a god and emissary and and ordeal in each so why not a champion?

    • renfield286

      I was thinking this,
My theory on the sets themes goes: Gods (theros), Heroes (born of the gods) and Monsters (nix)
with a focus on each of that sets themes, so the born of the gods containing more heroes and possibly demigodschampions.

  • n

they should do rare multicolored gods, non legendary

    • Biggzlar

non legendary? well that would defy the whole meaning of the word ‘god’, wouldn’t it?

      • Sensei

        Indeed.

    • The Phantrim

Rare demi-gods? I think they should keep the gods as mythics.

    • Phillip Counts

If they do demigods as mythics there will be 5 in each of the last 2 sets, or have all 10 as rares in the set and have mythic clerics to the gods to help bolster them over the Demigods. But I think there should be a new class to come and that would be worshipers’. They would get the boost from the gods from being on the battlefield

  • Reyos Blackwood

I’m expecting multi colored gods to come out in the next two sets already. There have been quite a few names that hint at this.
Iroas, Kuphrix, Keranos, Phenax, Phrika, Mogis, Karametra, Ephara to name those I can remember.

  • DaxosHimself

    Xenagos ascended into god hood

    • Phillip Counts

Xenagos will not be a god due to the fact of his planes walking abilities give more access to power than being a god on a single plane, at most he would only be a Demigod and have mana cost abilities and not active abilities other than producing a r and g land

      • DaxosHimself

Yeah. I know I it’s just joking because In the above picture is Xenagos coming out of a mountain with trees in it and nyx all over him. Just saying. There weren’t any cards in theros hinting at there’d green minor god

        • Shadow921

xenagos’ plan in the story is to take over nyx snd make himself a god.

          • ZedWrecker

Pretty sure that’s Xenagos becoming a god. Remember, kids, Planeswalkers can travel, but they age normally now after The Mending. A god may not necessarily be able to planeswalk, but they make up for it in the fact they cannot die or be killed through conventional means. Unlike Planeswalkers, who can be shocked to death or eaten by monsters and such.

      • ZedWrecker

FALSE. Elspeth serves as the champion of Heliod. Ral Zarek serves Niv Mizzet. Planeswalkers are not the end of the power scale anymore.

    • garrythebaws

no he should not he should stay the way he his

      • ZedWrecker

Looks like he’s riding that Nyx train to godsville.

  • Phillip Counts

They need to do dark rituals again and have some higher cost creatures with discard abilities or put the first creature from the bottom of the library on the battlefield and put the rest of the cards into graveyard and no shuffling due tobit coming from the bottom, and ajani is finally coming back but not until jitn would love to see a blue green red Nicol bolas sometime soon especially with all the gods out just so he can destroy them

    • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

No they Shouldn’t reprint Dark Ritual it is a completely unbalanced card that will shift the entire standard to mono black. . .since they are balancing standard after the mistake that is “sphinx’s revelation”. Don’t get me wrong I love dark ritual, but it would utterly ruin standard.

      • ImperialSunlight

Especially since the likes of Thoughtseize is already making mono-black very powerful, if not overpowered already…

        • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

I very much agree with you on that to be able to turn 1 dark ritual then thoughtseize then dark ritual and drop a desecration demon, it’s just way too much. That’s all fine in dandy in legacy mind you but standard is supposed to be slower.

          • MBD

Turn 1 Nightveil Specter vs the mirror = GG

          • Shneebly

Also turn 2 desecration Demon’s… Sounds way to scary… I fully approve of the card for commander though.

    • Reyos Blackwood

They should do none of these things, plus bolas is always grixis colored
and all five elder dragons were shard colored, not pie colored.

  • Juanito Jones

Perhaps, the block will come after Theros, have interactions with artifacts and equipment due to the number of artifact hates printed, and interactions with already existing artifacts, such as weapons of the gods, and some artifact creatures at the moment seem to be unnecessary, even the pre-flavor of Espelth. Perhaps return to Mirrodin, or Legacy Urza and Karn.

    • JaredElick

A lot of that hate is in M14, which would argue for BGD or JIN to contain an artifact subtheme.

      • Necro

        Artifact God, anyone?

        • certee

          dat colorless devotion

          • Necro

More like “As long as your combined devotion to all colors is less than 5…”

          • Vrask

The idea would work, but less than five would be FAR too easily abusable.
If it’s supposed to be backwards, the devotion should turn off with 2-3 colored permanents, tops. Anything else wouldn’t restrict most decks in the slightest. Granting the effect until you control six colored permanents is basically always active in any deck – you’d almost have to build a deck dedicated to swarming permanents to NOT get that effect.

          • Necro

I’d love it if it were “as long as your total devotion to all colors is 1
or less” or even limited to not having any devotion at all.

But I guess the next 10 gods will be 2-coloured gods.

RTR-coloured Gods in BNG (Mogis as a Rakdos-coloured God, Keranos as an Izzet-Coloured God, Karametra as a Selesnya-cloured Goddess, Pharika as a Golgari-coloured Goddess and Ephara as an Azorius-coloured Goddess.) (together with the missing 5 RTR-coloured Scrylands)

and GTC-coloured Gods in JOU (Phenax as a Dimir-coloured God, Iroas as a Boros-coloured God, Athreos as an Orzhov-colored God, Kruphix as a Simic-coloured God and, even though many of the people here are against this, Xenagos as a Gruul-coloured God.)

So no Colorless God, no 4-colour-Gods for Commander (*sob*) no 5-colour-God who needs a ton of devotion just to become active…

          • Shadow921

accually i think that the gtc gods are coming out before rtr gods like they are doing with the scry lands.

          • Necro

I don’t think so since putting Xenagos in the last part of the block would make more sense to me.
Also, putting duals with other color combinations than the set itself into a set makes things awkward.

        • Sensei

No. The gods are enchantments and creatures because they’re mysterious and otherworldly. The god weapons ARE artifacts and enchantments, artifacts because they were created and enchantments because they were made by the gods, making them as otherworldly as their creators. No one made the gods (well, the Magic development team did, but not in the context of the game).

          • Necro

As far as I understood it, Gods are Planeswalkers who gave up their Planeswalker Spark. Now let’s remember Karn. If somebody like Karn gave up his Planeswalker spark to become a God, he’d end up as an Legendary Enchantmentartifactcreature.

          • Hammy

I don’t believe the whole “Gods used to be Planeswalkers” thing is official, and I don’t know why it would be. Why can’t a plane have huge, omnipresent creatures that are worshiped as Gods?

If I’m wrong, feel free to show me the source where it says it. But as far as I know, that’s not true.

          • Shadow921

no you are rught the gods didnt give up planeswalker sparks as they were never planeswalkers.

        • mastermike890

i’m honestly surprised the weapons of the gods are not legendary enchantment artifact equipment, but that might not fit.

          • Necro

It might not fit… Indeed. That’s too long for the type-box.

          • a

            Nice

    • Imran

I highly doubt another Mirrodin block, and the fact that the Phrexyians won the war, most of the artifacts are either dead or enslaved.

  • noworldforeric

I wish they would just have made all the Gods planeswalkers and then made all of the demigods also planeswalkers so we could have had 15 planeswalkers in 3 sets instead of the enchantment creature thing…

  • MarkusR

I think Xenagos is vanishing in the art. So it should announce an instant or sorcery anti-planeswalker card rather than a god Xenagos as some said. I am thinking of an “exile target enchantment or planeswalker” which would be able to get rid of both gods and planeswalkers. An instant on 4 manas if monocolored or 3 if multicolored seems logical.

    • Shadow921

the story line of theros involves xenagos making himself a god so accualy this art depicts him as a part of nyx

      • Krom

I think the next step would be to add less powerful multicolor devotion cards in multicolored.. They already have the 10 minor deities (Pharika, Marametra, Mogis, etc..) to work with. Think like the Hedge-Mage cycle but with devotion.

        • Shadow921

so something like… 2RW When this guy etb if your devotion to red is atleast 5 deal 3 damage to creature or player
when this guy etb if your devotion to white is atleast 5 you gain 3

          • Krom

Right. Except more balanced.. The possibilities with devotion are endless,, Like an artifact where you pick a color and its p/t = devotion of that color or an instant or sorcery or enchantment where you can give +1/+1 equal to devotion of that color (though it sounds like a green thing with rev hunter).

Maybe even a cycle of uncommon creatures with something like: 2RG. 3/3 if your dev g is 3 or higher, he gets +2/+2 and if your dev r is 3 or higher, he gets First Strike. Again like the cycle of auras from lorwyn/shadowmoor (unsure which) which gave +1/+1 and an ability based on color (helm of the ghastlord, edge of the divinity, etc).

  • MarkusR

If any new planeswalker they might introduce the one of the duels of the planeswalker game: Ramaz. A blue-green-red planeswalker with abilities related to putting one more land each turn and drawing such as (0 or +1 : reveal the top card of your library if it’s a land put it into play tapped, else put it in your hand) and a minus ability doing an act of treason.

  • Noobnein

Since in theros they did scry, why not bring back fateseal in born of the gods?

    • Hammy

Because Mark Rosewater has previously stated that Fateseal is not a fun mechanic, and that it was one of the least liked mechanics in the Time Spiral block, and because of that, it will most likely never see a comeback in its current form.

      • Dunno

Boo! I like fateseal, and it seems to fit the set perfectly. It’s all about sealing a creatures fate, and it’s closely related to scry.

        • Hammy

I wasn’t around to play with Fateseal, but I loved the concept of it. But Maro said its not going to happen. Its in one of his Podcasts about Time Spiral. He graded pretty much all the new mechanics from that block from “Definitely coming back,” “Good idea, just need to find the right place for it,” and “Never gonna happen” and Fateseal was one of two or three that got rated “Never gonna happen”.

But I’m just glad they brought back Scry. Great mechanic and I really hope they have more Scry cards in the block.

          • Antares

I’ve only played against fateseal in cube. I can tell you, it is NOT a fun mechanic. Fateseal is extremely competitive, and great when you are DOING it. The problem is that on the receiving end, It’s horrible. You are basically told, “Yes, you are losing. Lose some more with your next card.”

It is a very douchey mechanic. It adds nothing to the game beyond stacking the odds in one person’s favor. Think of it this way: Scry helps you hit land drops and prevent floods/screws. This means that there will be more interactions, you’ll get to do more, and PLAY the game. Fateseal does the opposite. It makes it so the game is less fun by promoting those screws/floods, and letting another player dictate your draws.

I’m glad it will never come back. I’ve been on the receiving end of it ONCE. That’s ALL I ever want to play against it. There’s no feeling like having your opponent have the advantage, and then they get to check the top card of your deck and make sure that it won’t hurt them. “Oh, yeah, this card can’t do anything for him. I’ll let him draw it.”

how about heliod going bad and working for Xenagos

    • SomeKidWhoLikesMagic

I love your idea! Then they could tail off into a new God block of sort.

    • Bob

      What about Heliod becoming good

  • SomeKidWhoLikesMagic

    Xenagos

  • SomeKidWhoLikesMagic

Xenagos – Obviously in the picture. Just thinking for ideas of the set: (Keeping in mind I do not know anything of the set and that someones possibly come up with this already, sorry if you have : ) Maybe the children of the gods? So Heliods son or something. Maybe each gods right hand man/woman. With no reprints of the gods. The right hand man/woman would be like the emissary in Theros but rare or mythic? I don’t want lots of reprints and would love for to be lots of dimir/black/blue rares and mythics. I don’t want three colour cards as they ruin the game for me. I like the idea of Commander but I do not want it spreading out over other sets. This is just my ideas and opinions – please do not hate on this comment, its just my thoughts. Thank you for reading :)

    • nekneth

what aout the normal 2 or 3 commander oriented cards in a set that still add flavor to the set are the ok?

  • akakj7

i think there will be demigods that are multicolored and xenagos is one of them

  • Jorge

bring back wrath of god or damnation

    • Buddy

Agreed, or at least reprint mutilate

  • leshrac

give us yawgamoth, basicaly he shows up and desintegrates this plane and all these lesser walkers like jace and bolas, then he resets things and dominaria comes back as main plane

    • ZedWrecker

Yawgmoth’s dead, baby. Yawgmoth’s dead. Dominaria is in ruins and mostly inhospitable. The world we knew is blown to hell. Urza and The Weatherlight are just footnotes. They just don’t make ‘walkers like they used to.

      • Zack Klein

he may be dead but they pretty much told everyone where his tomb is, so any necromancer can bring him back, perhaps a planeswalker who can bring him back to full power

        • ZedWrecker

“Who” told “everyone?” Just because it appears in the game, doesn’t mean it becomes some kind of magical meta-knowledge to all who exist in the Multiverse. They didn’t just hand out pamphlets that say “Yawgmoth’s body is in Urborg, resurrect that B.”

    • cretinyes.com

they can’t to yawgmoth. he would either have to be completely op to be accurate to story which would fail in game, or he would have to be merely good to help in game, which would screw over story.

      • JaredElick

Well, they can. Karn is amazing and costs 7. Bolas is overcosted at 8, but would be too good at lower costs. Yawgmoth can cost 8+.

        • cretinyes.com

Dude, no one would run an 8+ walker. The game is supposed to be either over or at point of no return by turn nine or 10, so to help in a game, you’d have to be able to play yawgmoth (an extremely unlikely draw) and be able to play him ASAP, and both have him be op enough to easily turn game around completely by himself while the player needs to hope that he still has enough life not to just die to a boros charm or an unblock able creature the next turn. And that’s just ignoring the chances of counter/burn/dreadbore immediately.

          • TehBadaxe

Bolas was for control decks.. I won FNMs in last standard with that guy. He breaks non-creature win conditions, or steals creature-ly win conditions. Haha, and then is a win condition on his own after that.

  • Poetmaster-X

We are missing none-creature ramp now from standard, so something, like Cultivate, or Farseek would be nice(may be 2 mana basic land tapped & scry 1?)… …also, we are missing cheap draw-spells, like Serum Visions, or may be(sorcery: scry 1, draw a card, than Scry 1 again for 1 mana, or sorcery: Scry 2, than draw a card for 1U)…

We need 1 or 2 black &/or white spell that exiles a creature or permenant (not multicolored) & we also need something that puts creature(s) or permenant(s) on the bottom of it’s owner’s library, like Bant Charm, just not 3 colored. May be a blue card, or blue/green, may be blue/white…

I hope we won’t run short on big mythic creatures this time… …if this is Greek Mythology, than something, like the Titans from former core sets would be a great addition (I don’t mean to reprint those, but rather invent new ones, also in multy color)… …an example: 3RRGG, 6/6, hate, trample, reach, whenever it enters the battlefield, or deals damage to a player, you may draw two cards, than discard a card, 3RG – it deals 2 damage to target creature or player and put an 0/1 green plant creature token onto the battlefield, 3G – Regenerate this creature & plant creatures you control get +2 +2 until end of turn…….

    • Job

“Scry 2, than draw a card for 1U”=Preordain, smartypants ;).

      • Poetmaster-X

        Forgot about that :)

Anywayes, we really miss cheap draw right now as well as land-search… …I loved using Farseek & Ranger’s Path in my Bant midrange-control deck… …I run Azorius Charms, Think Twice & 4 Terminus, 4 Supreme Verdict, etc… …I just loved it, how easily you can get to your 6+ mana cards with ramp & draw like that… …of course I played 4 Revelations :)

  • Poetmaster-X

I have some more additions in mind… …standard is aggro/devotion heavy right now, so may be we could use another global-burn spell, like Anger of the Gods, but not as cheap… …may be a 6 mana Hellion creature, that burns away creatures, when it enters the battlefield… …for example: 2RRRR, 3/3, haste, when it enters the battlefield it deals 3 damage to each other creature & those creatures can’t block this turn… …this card should be good, since it kicks devotion very well(actually, enough for Purphoros by itselfe) & it does not destroy Purphoros, tough it puts out most of your own creatures…….

Some rat creatures that are useful by themselves, but also good to kick Pack Rat… …for example: 1BB, 2/1, when it enters the battlefield look at the top two cards of target opponent’s library, put one of those cards into it’s owner’s graveyard, it’s owner looses life equal to that card’s cmc & put the other card back on top of it’s owner’s library… …or: BB, 1/1, Deathtouch, when this creature deals combat damage to a player, put a 1/1 black rat creature token onto the battlefield(pretty much like Precinct Captain)…….

The power of Dimir decks have decreased… …mill is no longer relavent… …we really miss Drownyard, but I think it won’t be reasonable to reprint it right now… …instead something similar, that is a little slower, yet a little bit more effective: Land, enters the battlefield tapped, tap – add 1 colorless mana to your mana pool, pay 4 colorless mana & tap – target player puts the top 4 cards of his/her library into his/her graveyard & scry 1(you)… …I belive this is worse than Drownyard, even tough it milles 1 more card & even lets you scry, but it enters tapped, so in Esper, it further slowes down the deck… …it also requires 1 more mana than Drownyard, so it’s harder to activate more of it within a turn, like we did with Drownyard(12 mana – 3 Drownyard, 16 mana – 4 Drownyard)… …I shared this idea, even tough I think it’s a little off, ‘cuz I don’t think Wizards want to make something like this at the moment, nor any cards with milling abilities…….

    • JaredElick

Because cards that won’t be played in Standard, Modern, or Legacy are relevant?

  • Cameron LeMaster

give us our first b/r planeswalker please……….

    • ZedWrecker

Because Sarkahn the Mad just never happened…

      • Joe

        It definitely shouldn’t have

        • ZedWrecker

Oh, I’m sorry, can YOU turn things into dragons? No? Didn’t think so.

          • Krom

            Best. Comeback. Ever.

          • bob

Sarkahn the Mad sucks. Dragonstorm anyone?

          • ZedWrecker

            GET OUT.

          • Joe

sarkhan vol=better if getting your own dragons b/c you don’t have to sack anything. Also better for getting dragon tokens then sarkhan the mad: Dragon Broodmother. Death by dragons. Growing Ranks. Shall I go on?

If you’re using sarkhan the mad to hurt opponents, he still sucks. Dude, he’s b/r. Instead of running him, run burn or removal. Instead of giving an opponent a dragon for one of they’re creatures, dread bore it and they don’t get anything. I’d even rather run beast within or rapid hybridization.

    • anonymous247

      sarkhan the mad…

    • RileyMichaelParker

Sarkhan The Mad was a red/black planeswalker, bro

  • ZedWrecker

    Bring back storm crow.

  • ZedWrecker

Guys, you see Xenago’s face? Is that an “I’m dying, oh no” face? No, that’s an “MY EVIL PLAN HAS COME TO FRUITION! UNLIMITED POWER!!!” face. Dude’s becoming a god. Sorry to say it, technically, gods are higher on the pecking order than planeswalkers. Hence why in the flavor text, Elspeth seems to be serving Heliod. Because, despite the fact planeswalkers are hella powererful mortals, they’re still mortals. That’s why Ral Zarek isn’t guild chief of the Izzet but Niv Mizzet is. Why Jared is Golgari king while Vraska is an extremely powerful guild member. Just because you’re a planeswalker, doesn’t mean you are a god. Gods are gods, planeswalkers are planeswalkers, lemons are lemons, ducks are ducks, and all kneel before Hypnotoad.

    • PoetMaster-X

I agree with the whole content of the statement…

Tough, wouldn’t it be a little inaccurate to print a Xenagos-god/creature card while the Planeswalker is still standard legal? May be they won’t print the god card, so Xenagos’s ascendion would only appear in the story… …& there would be an enchantment card with the picture of Xengos, that gives a creature god-like abilities… …may be not an enchantment, ‘cuz it would be colored & I think a this god-like stuff is relavent to all colors, so it should be avelable for each color of decks… …I think it should be an equipment, since we are quite low on good equipments right now in standard… …of course, an equipment is usually an object, but why couldn’t it be something that becomes one with it’s user & of course, it won’t be competable with anyone according to the possible folowing of the story… …it could be: cmc=4, equip=3, equipped creature is indestructible & has Haste, Vigilance & Trample, get +2 +2, if equipped creature’s power is less than 5(dispite the +2 +2 this gives to it), sacrifice it at the end of your next end step & you gain life equal to it’s toughness… …pay 1 colorless mana & 2 lives: equipped creature gains hexproof until end of turn…….

      • ZedWrecker

Why can’t we have both God Xenagos and Planeswalker Xenagos? Is it unprecedented, sure, but as far as gameplay, Xenagos Planeswalker would still be subtype Xenagos while God Xenagos would be enchantment creature-satyr god or something like that. The two would not void eachother. Heck, for a period, you could have two Kamahls in play, so long as one was Fist of Krosa and the other was Pit Fighter. It’d be a bit weird, but it would work perfectly in game mechanics.

Plus, let’s not forget there is no defined R/G God hinted at, if I am correct. So, it stands to reason that the R/G planeswalker with dreams of godhood may well get his make-a-wish to come true. And he didn’t even need a terminal illness other than mortality.

        • PoetMaster-X

Sure it wouldn’t matter ingame, but still would be weird… …they won’t do it…

          • ZedWrecker

They made Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition. I put nothing past Wizards of the Coast.

        • pathfinder

Agreed. Also, Mikaeus the Lunarch and Mikaeus the Unhallowed. Shouldn’t have happened, but wizards seems to use a checklist that goes: 1: does the character change fundamentally? 2: is the change relevant to the story? 3: is the change in character’s powers significant enough to merit making a new card? Mikaeus met all those requirements. I say Xenagos does to. He goes from walker to god, so step 1 check. Story seems to be based around this almost completely, so step 2 check. Seems like becoming god would mean giving up spark, and b/c of change to creature + the devotion thing that gods have, step 3 check.

Also, not saying they should do this, but would be kind of cool if they did the following. Xenagos is supposed to be best god, so instead of making god card completely OP, what if they had god/walker? like, change walker abilities, give god abilities, and have something like, at upkeep, if devotion to red or green is less then 5, player to your left can choose to switch him from god to walker or vice versa. If greater, you choose.

      • Jerrymandererthewise

I understand where you are coming from but, they have neglected to name a RG god so It is bound to be Xenagos, besides all signs kind of point to that. I mean the artwork above obviously, and also Temple of abandon slightly hint towards it. I don’t think WotC would do a cycle of minor multicolored gods and just leave out the RG one.

    • FuzzyKittyBark

i kinda think it’s an “OMG! AWESOME! THIS MOUNTAIN IS BLEEDING!” face

      • ZedWrecker

        It is pretty heavy metal.

  • dat guy

i would like to see a green/blue planeswalker

    • PoetMaster-X

      W/U & G/W planeswalkers within the next 2 sets would be nice… :)

      There have never been a G/W planeswalker ever yet… …nor G/U, or B/W…

      • Sorin, Lord of Innistrad

        Ignorance can be excused

        • Kiora Atua

          That’s too good..

        • Pwn

          Nice.

      • magicmaster

        sorin lord of innistad’ stupid

  • Krom

They need a new win condition card like door to nothingness except that it requires devotion to each color :D

    • PoetMaster-X

I want to see that as well… :)

    • weirded out

That would be awesome. Be cool if it was ‘evil’ card. Could be like, titans beat gods and everyone dies or something.

I would buy so many of those cards, it’s not even funny.

  • VeryGaryIndeed

shut up about planeswalkers… that’s all you ever talk about!… but on a more serious note, will i be seeing Dack or Kiora soon? please Kiora… come to me!!!! also, ashiok… she’s overrated! elspeth, suns champ, now that’s a planeswalker. xenagos is excellent as well, ultimate is a little undapowered…. pschh, planeswalkers… !mehtevoli

    • ZedWrecker

      1) Askhiok is genderless. Ashiok’s gender is Ashiok. Look into the backstory.
      2) How is Xenagos underpowered? He gives you a fart ton of mana.
      3) Kiora would be awesome. Fully agreed. Wish we got her in Ravnica, but I suppose it makes sense we didn’t. Soon.

      • Shadow921

just a point ( not saying youre wrong ) but in the fat pack booklet they refer to ashiok as “he”

        • ZedWrecker

I always thought Ashiok was likely a dude. The stuble on the jaw is most of the reason. But I like the idea of Ashiok being androgynous. Ashiok looks like a Guillermo del Toro character.

      • VeryGaryIndeed

so… ashiok’s a dude? sorry, mah friend who drafted ashiok refers to it as a she. i agree that elspeth’s cmc could have been lowered a bit, but i’m more of a knight-errant person myself anyway. and i wasnt saying xenagos himself was underpowered just his ultimate seems a little… well, not great, but that’s my opinion. the one thing you failed to mention is dack, my friend told me he may not be printed, just a comic charachter, is this true?

        • ZedWrecker

Ashiok seems to be more gender neutral. Like a house plant.

    • John

Elspeth good, but costs to much. I know other Elspeths set a kind of high standard, but she would be better at 5 mana or a +2 ability. If she’s really champion of Theros or Heliod or whatever, having her be 4 mana or even 5 with a +2 ability would make more sense.

      • JaredElick

Elspeth is amazing at 6 mana. I wouldn’t ask for cheaper. And I was happy to unload $30 worth of cards for her, she’s an amazing finisher.

        • bondmage

          Previous Elspeths both better.

          • Antares

Previous Elspeth both do different things. Knight Errant works best as a support spell, buffing your creatures, or adding chump blockers. Tirel is great for swinging the game. She can stop a horde momentarily, and then bring you back. Sun’s Champion is there to end the game. She counters hordes by making her own, counters fatties by killing them, and ultimates don’t matter. XD

I think she combines the best aspects of the previous Elspeth. She makes the horde that Tirel does, and has a conditional wrath like Tirel, while having access (limited, but access) to Knight Errant’s buff. Six mana is not bad for an aggressive/mid-range creature deck (my G/W deck can usually put her down if the game drags on to that point).

Also, consider that her abilities synergize amazingly with themselves. She can make weenies, Kill fatties, and buff weenies. She’s basically the culmination of any White Weenie deck.

PS. You can cheat her out on turn 4 with Nykthos. Nothing quite like dropping Elspeth, Sun’s Champion on turn 4. :3

          • Antares

On that note, I admit I would have LOVED her at 3WW for mana cost (or had the fake version be her actual self XD ).

    • NeoRedDawn

      Ashiok is a guy.

  • Shadow

Xenagos getting reprinted in god form could happen, think of mikaenus the lunarch/mikaenus the unhallowed in innistrad block, the cards fitted the story and so they both existed.

    • ZedWrecker

EXACTLY. I had this discussion earlier, and I had to use the Kamahls.

    • Bobby

More than likely it will happen. In the book that came with the fat pack it talks of how xenagos’s main goal is to become a god and how nothing will get in his way.

  • magicmaster

I wonder if they will bring back xenagos as a god. also another triple planeswalker would be fin with me ;)

    • NeoRedDawn

not gonna happen. Planeswalkers are never reprinted as creatures, as one of WotC’s rule. It’s only ever the reverse. Also it would be inconsistent with the story.

      • Necro

It would, in fact, not be. Xenagos is trying to become a god. And since we don’t know who the RG God is, It’s probably gonna happen.

        • Susej

It can happen a Shrewd creature could steal the spark of a planeswalker whithout killing him, this way a planeswalker could be reprinted as a creature, it would have flavour in the same block appearing as a planeswaker in the first set, creature in the second set, and as the story progressed planeswalker again in the last set…

  • Usrawr

Still waiting for a mono green Bear God or Bear Planeswalker. Someday. Sigh.

    • ZedWrecker

Will you be my new best friend?

      • Usrawr

My issue is that they not only are lacking in new additions to the bear tribal recently, but they have also been neglecting to reprint essentials like storm crow. BESTEST. FRIENDS.

            THE HOMARIDS!!!

        • magicritic12

Just give us all the PLANESWALKERS SELESNYA BOROS OZOV SIMIC RAKDOS !!!!

      • Necro

We know that there will be a new Ajani in the block. I’m hoping for a Selesnya colored one. (Which would be fine since Ajani is limited to Naya’s colors, if he’s limited to anything at all.)
Depending on the abilities, it would make Naya really strong in Standard.
Also, I love that kitty since Alara.

Since there’s no current planeswalker that I’d associate with UG, I’d guess, if there’ll be one it’d be a new Guy.

Also, I’m rooting for a Minotaur Planeswalker with Rakdos’ colors. Digeridoo on a 0 or -1 would be awesome. :D

        • Cameron Smith

Same here. I would love to see a Rakdos colored Minotaur Planeswalker as well.

          • Necro

Open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the Minotaur!

          • ZedWrecker

There’s always Kiora Atua for UG… Lol

I don’t play the video games, i prefer real cards.

After reading the MTGSal-Entry for her…. We’ve got Merfolk in this set, so, why the hell not?

          • TehBadaxe

I know of her from wikis. :p And yes! What if she’s Thassa’s champion or something..? Since in the preview video Heliod says Elspeth will be his. Lol

      • Isaiah Mortensen

        no rakdos planeswalker

        • Kevan Kramer

There is a R/B planeswalker…he just sucks is all.

          • Isaiah Mortensen

            who?

          • Zombie

            Sarkhan the Mad.

The only time he saw play was in Alara block Standard Jund. He was never seen again, most likely due to the fact that Alara Standard was the only time he was even remotely relevant.

And even then he wasn’t a key part of that deck.

      • L

No – we need more Gruul so we can make a red/green planeswalker deck!

        • AdventureMormon

We have plenty of Gruul planeswalkers – we need a good R/B planeswalker.

      • Tom

Simic! Join the Simic Army! :D

  • mastermike890

I would love it if there were monocolor supreme gods in the first block, dual-color lesser gods in this block and tri-color demi-gods in the last block.

    • NeoRedDawn

not gonna happen. There are ten dual-color lesser gods. Five will appear in Born of the Gods, and the other Five in Journey Into Nyx.

      • ZedWrecker

i want them all now :(

        • Kaya Man

      sets*

  • Goblin Wielder

i would like to see some sort of “mox” artifact like mox opal. where its only active if your devotion to a certian color is three or more then it adds one mana of any color to your mana pool, like a 0 drop artifact. i think that would be cool. also i would love to see a planeswalker with a converted mana cost like that of nightveil specter or boros reckoner. So maybe like a 3 drop simic planeswalker with hybrid U/G mana as its CMC. that would be the nuts.

    • Nkz

      One mana of that color…

      • Nemino

More like, add mana equal to your devotion to a certain color.

        • Zach

          So Nykthos?

    • Alex

      mox crustula

  • Goblin Wielder

i also think they should start printing foil tokens… maybe thats just me though..

    • Usrawr

Foil BEAR Tokens. Seriously though, the only bear tokens are promos right?

      • ZedWrecker

        why not storm crow tokens?

Theros is a great set. I’ve heard a lot of people bashing Theros, as well as RTR, but both – when you think about it – have been great, flavorful, sets with lots of valuable cards. Born of the Gods is a small set, with a great foundation in Theros. I have high hopes.

  • Guest

Looks like xenagos, purphoros, and erebos all smashed into one lol cool tho cant wait
    looks like xenagos facialy
coming out of rock like purphoros
    black stary background like erebos

    • alexander Stewart

It’s a forest covered mountain with a Green and Red god smashing out. I’m going to say it’s GR.

    • Kaya Man

omg..you have figured it out..sorta. ha. xenagos kills erebos and purphoros which gives him their powers therefore making him the ultimate badass killer of the gods god. haha ya never know.

    • Kaya Man

which is why he has blood all over his face..wut a badass

  • The Phantrim

Anyone have any idea how the multi-color gods will work?

    • Jon

I have two theories (though they’re literally just guesses).
      1. It’ll be ‘if your combined devotion to red/green is X then Y.’ Which will continue to support the monocoloured decks, and allow for the dual coloured cards to be more relevant (though potentially overpower hybrid cost cards).
      2. It’ll be ‘if your devotion the red is X, then Y. If your devotion to green is X, then Z.’ Which again allows them to be in monocoloured but not unlock their full potential unless you can go into multi-coloured. Which I think it’s probably a little bit more flavourful, but I don’t see how it’d interact with the become a creature thing unless it ‘becomes a creature with X’ or ‘becomes a creature and -added effect-’.

I’m really REALLY excited to see how they do it though, just seems a really fun design space to be working in.

      • JaredElick

That could be WAY too good. Just think, A Nightveil Specter gives 3 blue and 3 black. You could activate both abilities pretty quick,, and that could get broken.

        • mason

yes but if you step a little out of the block you can break the gods pretty easily but there legends so thats kinda not new and they are easy to kill if you have even one “copy target creature card”.

          • fessus

The Legend rule got changed, bro.

      • modproductions

creature’s power equal devotion to red, toughness equal devotion to green
Tap: target player lose life equal to your devotion to black, you gain equal devotion to white

      • Guest

If this creature’s devotion to green or red is = to or greater then X, then this creature is a creature. If your devotion to green plus your devotion to red is = or greater then Y, then Z.

    • Garrett Horton

if devotion to X is greater then Y
      X effect takes place
if devotion to Y is greater the X
      Y effect takes place

      just an idea

      • J

Or it could just be 5 devotion to either or.

  • Zarek

I’m really liking the colour schemes in this block for the packaging so far. Scarlet with a brass/bronze is nice for the new one

Norse mythology set. I’d suggest japanese shinto mythology, but wotc already kind of messed that up when kamigawa had a lot of specific references that no one understood.

      • Necro

        Return to Kamigawa?
We had some Norse stuff in Ice Age/Coldsnap.

      Kamigawa = Japanese
      Pirates ;)

  • selesnyaWarden

The title implies that Xenagos just reclaimed a power that could give him full divinity status, thats why he would be originally a god being born from one. According to this new world Theros, we know thegods exists and they could have had demi gods just like the greek mythology that inspired this plane,,,that means that in the card multiverse, is either a permanent form of bestow, or a twist in permanent type, just saying. So technically Xenagos could be half sentient being, half god.

  • selesnyaWarden

or on second thought this is not Xenagos and is rather a new god for the satyrs and wild monsters, because Heloid is the god of champions so there should be a god who cares for polukranos and its kind

    • Steven

well xenagos always wanted to become a god so maybe he got what he want

    • mason

your right and it might be the reason they give for any titans or suck since satyrs are closer to nature and more wild than most it would give them the perfect excuse, a wild planeswalker how want more given the fals power of a god by titans to help them be freed and wild i could see it happening.

  • Ramsamm

    Looks like

  • selesnyaWarden

the Titans are returning, whether in born of the gods or journey into nyx, but they might be back, you have not benn warned,,,you were spoiled (evil laugh)

  • Ramsamm

Looks like this might be a set of the Titans and the giants that arose from them rather than the gods. Because in the Greek mythology the titans created the giants to help battle the gods. The giant in that picture just may be the oldest one (Alcyoneus). Also in Greek mythology the giants were said to have been buried beneath the earth where their writhing could be interpreted as earthquakes and volcanic activity and in the picture the giant is appearing out of the volcano…coincidence? I think not. :)

    • jeremysclone

The person in the picture is Xenagos after he becomes a god…

  • Ricky Voelz

Anyone else notice that there was only three Rare Giants printed in Theros? Arbor Colossus, Hundred Handed-One and Titan of Eternal Fire. Black and Blue don’t have one. And are they going to have Monstrous abilities or one like the red Giant? Any Ideas? I think the blue one would be cool if it said, “Merfolks you control have Pay 1U: Scry 1.”

    • mason

i like the idea not broken and seems like it could be useful i would add a tap to the cost though otherwise it would jest be one merfolk and the giant

    • Eric

Merfolk Titan? Interesting. I want to see something that interacts in black with Tymaret the Murder King… so something that creates tokens when it Monstrouses would be sick. Like “XXXBB Monstrous X, put X 2/2 tapped Zombies in when you monstrous” or something.

  • Tahngarth

Sadly, they already confirmed that they will not be reprinting the titans in the theros block.

      • mason

thats pretty good in my book if they were going to make something like titans for this series it wouldn’t realy fit if they were reprints of the old ones

  • brandon

How much will it cost to enter a pre-release event? I’ve been playing for a year and go to tournaments weekly, but I just have never been to a pre-release! Any estimations?

    • Zach

      ~$30-$35. I can’t remember exactly but it’s around there.

      • MagicGALAXY

It was $30 for me when I went to the Theros Pre-release I think your right, but it really depends on the store as well :)

    • Kiowa

      where i go its $25

    • James Collette

Where I go, its $25 per event. Prerelease Friday, two on Saturday, two on Sunday. They offer a sweet $100 deal for all five.

  • magicritic12

ooohh battle the horde! Cant wait to play that play that!

    • kevinzky88

he’s so exited he even doubled a phrase

      • DeathMetalLlama

        Guess it’s Doubling Season

        • MagicGALAXY

          Or today’s Daily Double

          • Fbn Dnl Schlr

Yo dawg, he waits to play that so he can’t play that while he waits to plays that.

          • MagicGALAXY

I really wish that made sense.

          • ZedWrecker

It makes sense. He’s waiting to play it, but he can’t play it, because he’s still waiting to play it.

          • MagicGALAXY

Yah I guess your right, it’s just he said it in a confusing way.

It’s like the music video for Radioactive; it makes sense, just hard to understand :)

      • Matt Stone

He’s leading in to a James Brown-esque funk number..

        ‘Play that!’

    Minor Gods

    i found on mtg wiki:

Athreos (), the divine ferryman across the Rivers That Ring the World (Scholar of Athreos, Sentry of the Underworld).

Ephara ()?, god of protection. She granted power to the Meletians to kill the evil Archon Agnomakhos (Ephara’s Warden).

Iroas (), a god worshipped in Akros, apparently its patron. The god of honor and victory in war. (Arena Athlete, Priest of Iroas).

Karametra ()?, god of the hearth and agriculture. Has a tumultuous relationship with Nylea, who she speaks of as her sister. Patron of Setessa, and associated with charity and orphans (Setessan Battle Priest, Bronze Sable).

Keranos (), god of storms and visions (Steam Augury, Lightning Strike)..

Kruphix (), a god associated with horizons, mysteries, prophecy, and dawn. (Agent of Horizons, Prophet of Kruphix).

Mogis (), a god associated with violence, bloodlust, war and cannibalism. Worshipped by minotaurs. His “red eye” is used as a profanity in Meletis relating to violent death, while Akroan warriors are warned of the threat of giving in to his whims. (Borderland Minotaur, Deathbellow Raider, Mogis’s Marauder, Fanatic of Mogis).

Pharika (), a god worshipped in Setessa’s Winter Nexus, apparently associated with grief and old age. Is also associated with basilisks, said to have hidden many cures within their blood. [4]. She is also the god of potions and poison, and prayers to her are usually letters rolled up in ceramics and dumped in bogs. [5] (Pharika’s Mender).

Phenax: ()?, god of deceit (Disciple of Phenax).

The God is yet unrevealed.(TRIPPLE SECRET)

    • MagicGALAXY

      Looks really promising :D

    • Bloodbraid Nayan

Last one I’m guessing is Green/Red Xenagos

    • Xye Terry

I’m guessing this are their colors:
      Athreos- White and Black
      Ephara- White and Blue
      Iroas- White and Red
      Karametra- White and Green
      Keranos- Blue and Red
      Kruphix- Blue and Green
      Mogis- Black and Red
      Pharika- Black and Green
      Phenax- Blue and Black

      • Xye Terry

        Xenagos (God Form)- Green Red

It was said that he is “the usurper” which leads to my conclusion but let’s just wait and see,

  • Guest

    Hmm…

    Temple of Enlightenment – U/WTemple of Malice – B/RTemple of Plenty – G/W

    Do ya reckon??

Also, if the multi-colour gods were hybrid, wouldn’t that get around the devotion thing quite nicely? Just a thought.

  • Matt Stone

    Hmm…

Temple of Enlightenment – U/W, Temple of Malice – B/R, Temple of Plenty – G/W.

    Do ya reckon??

Also, if the multi-colour gods were hybrid, wouldn’t that get around the devotion thing quite nicely? Just a thought.

    • robert sage

i would imagine with the new views on split cost and the other multi-color cards that if the devotion mechanic is prevelent with all gods it would be either, or , and to get passed all those issues with devotion. that being said should they choose to go this route, i think for balance reasons it would be a set of weaker gods, to avoid their being a ton of hybrid only decks to break the game super early, like a black blue god having and as apposed to fixed color, a night-vale specter would have a devotion of 6 turn 3, not counting any others. cast before that. i think Blue red would even be worse as they can hit devotion 6 on turn two. with the weirds. just saying.

      • Deizrouge

unless they make each mana simbol count only once for devotion on hybrid mana simbols

      • Usrawrs

Or perhaps a single devotion for having both colors in the mana cost and just having the required devotion much lower? Obviously this would require staple reprints such as grizzly bears, bear cub, forest bear, storm crow, and other cards to be balanced.

      • magic man

rakdos cackler, ash zealot, boros reckoner. 6 devotion.. turn three.

    • Antares

Hybrid costs would make things worse, especially with the RTR Block hybrids,
      Think of it this way:
You have a Boros Reckoner on turn 3. Play Iroas on turn 4 with a double hybrid cost. Even requiring 5 devotion to each color (R/W), you are there already (from only two creatures!). Adding in other creatures would make it nearly impossible to turn devotion OFF. It would make issues with devotion worse. The way to fix “devotion” in standard/modern is not by giving it support, but by giving support to Bestow, Heroic, and Monstrosity. The way to “get around it” in game is to print as few colored mana symbols on cards as is feasible.

  • MTGkiller

All I ask is a Mono-Black board wipe card. Every other color has a board wipe of it’s color but Black. Bring back Killing Wave or Mutilate please!

    • haha No!

Damnation, black sun zenith, life’s finale, Mutilate, Decree of pain, overwhelming forces, toxic deluge, killing wave just to name a few. should i keep going?

      • DeathMetalLlama

Consume the Meak would be nice as well

        • guy who like magic

green actually has no board wipes and if you check the pro tour world championships there were like 3 in the top eight.

          • PoetMaster-X

Polukranos is considered a one sided board wipe… …of course, only in ramp decks…

      • MagicGALAXY

Should you keep going? Ha ha NO!

      • brandon

he meant in standard, obviously there are lots of black board wipe, just none in standard ATM

    • TehBadaxe

Reprint Plague Wind! Obviously that would be fair with Nykthos.

    • Antares

Before black gets a board wipe, let’s give one to White in the block. XD

Right now, the only White board wipes (this is the color that invented it, I believe) are Verdict and Planar Cleansing. Great cards, but we’re missing one in Theros, no?

Green should not have a Board Wipe, and blue has an instant speed board-wipe (on one sid,e no less!!). Red got one in Anger of the Gods. Then let’s give Black and White a board-wipe. To fit it with story? White Board-wipe in Born of the Gods (since it is when Xenagos takes over and goes “Evil Overlord”) to symbolize the forces arrayed against Xenagos holding back the tide of monsters. Black board-wipe in Journey into Nyx to symbolize Xenagos and his cronies holding back the forces of Heliod led by Elspeth/Ajani.

      • Antares

        Whoops, missed Merciless eviction.

There’s your black board-wipe? It has white in its cost, so maybe not?

        • Luke Myers

There is Profit//loss. Does that count? lol

      • Laviniaofthetenth

        what about merciless eviction?

      • Shadow921

youre missing wrath of god, akromas vengence and catastrophy( to name a few) from mono white board wipes

        • JaredElick

In Standard? No, he’s missing none of those.

    • DersitePhantom

Actually, mono black does have a standard boardwipe.
Admittedly, Hythonia the Cruel isn’t the best boardwipe, being subject to removal and highly costed, but it leaves the board clear and you with a 7/9 deathtouch creature.

  • VeryGaryIndeed

mono-black isn’t doing well for it’s self right now. the best it has is gray merchant, which has been my worst enemy at our school lunch chaos games. i do however agree that they should reprint killing wave, I know avacyn wasn’t too long ago, but it’s a very effective way to get rid of tokens, which i see a lot of lately…. i was gonna say something semi-important and lost my train of thought… which doesn’t have replicate, so i can’t just… ughh… oh yeah! what is… battle the horde? does anyone know yet?

    • Cody

i think mono black would be too strong if they anything that is close to a boardwipe right now.

      • YouAlwaysKnewMyNameWasGary

and i completely dissagree, but everyone has their own opinion. i don’t know what kind of mono-black decks you been playin’, but i haven’t been impressed with more than the 2 vampire decks i’ve played, i have a friend with a turn 5 win vamps and another friend with a slighly slower vamps, but theres a lot of control, my primary deck is an elf/hydra overrun/ramp, and i couldn’t keep enough creatures on the board to finish him off. eh, i’m a hater, and i hate mono-black lately.

        • JaredElick

Well, he’s talking about the Tournament Meta, where Monoblack is a very tough deck. i played in an SCG Classic last week(smaller, 205 players), and 4/8 rounds I played monoblack. It’s pretty insane, playing Esper control I had a hard time, and managed to lose a round. That is surprising, since they push for late game and control usually loves that, but they rarely are top-decking and can get through damage without caring about creature removal.

    • Billy C

Do you overlook ratchet bomb for killing tokens effectively?

  • Chi Sarades

wtf wheres the damn black/green temple scry land

    • Roxas Kuragari

tarmogoyf should be in this set ..

    • MagicGALAXY

That sounds like a FANTASTIC idea to me.

    • Tommy

what is so special about Tarmogoyf?

      • MagicGALAXY

Your right; no one place Tarmogoyf in Modern anymore.

        • Steven Nichols

          Patently false.

          • MagicGALAXY

            I was being sarcastic.

I am a part of the OS; Orginization of Sarcasim

Slogon: “Psst, like we need your help…”

      • Antares

        Its 120$+ price tag. XD

I would be okay with Tarmogoyf being one of the Monsters in Born of the Gods. By that same token, I don’t think he fits with the block THAT well. . . . I dunno. Definitley wouldn’t mind having a chance of drafting that guy (especially with his price-tag).

        • REN

if it was reprinted the price would drop :I

          • Antares

Maybe. Mutavault got reprinted in M14, and its price stayed the exact same as it had before. Granted, this was because Bitterblossom apparently got banned in Modern, leading to the main driver behind Mutavault only being Standard. Otherwise, its price would have RISEN as a result of its reprint.

So . . . . it depends. Tarmogoyf is played in all the formats it is legal in. Those that do not have singleton restrictions generally see it as a 4 of (and having played against it, I understand why). That means that, right now, its price is being held BACK by the fact that it is missing standard out of the 3 big formats (Modern, Legacy, Standard). The price would change depending on if Tarmogoyf found a deck in standard or not (the best example of this being Scavenging Ooze and Mutavault. The Ooze was very high during Innistrad/RTR standard’s end, when graveyard games were a big thing, then dropped to about half the price once those strategies lost their appeal. Mutavault was much lower for the reprint, then went UP once it found a home in the mono=color devotion and dual-color decks. In fact, its price would have likely been even HIGHER as a result of the reprint, had Bitterblossom stayed legal in Modern).

        • JaredElick

Tarmogoyf was overpowered in Standard when it was reprinted. There is no possibility that Tarmogoyf is added to Standard. Wizards has stated Tarmogoyf was a mistake, and although it stays in Eternal formats, it will not come back to Standard.

  • akakj7

    this set speaks inferno titan

  • kake

what new planeswalkers could be coming out is all i wana know

    • Roxas Kuragari

I think Sarkan making an appearance would be pretty sweet.

      • Larry Chang

OOO on that note I don’t think it’ll be sarkhan. Mostly because he’s currently dealing with Nicol Bolas on a different planes. And WoTC probably doesn’t want to make a discontinuity in the planeswalker storyline. If anything we’ll see a new R/B planeswalker and PROBABLY a Theros specific Ajani or Nissa Revane gets a reappearance. Personally I think it’s Nissa because she already set off on another adventure from where she left off in the story. Just my thoughts :)

  • Nick

    G/W Ajani!

    • nameless

      source?

      • No Name

there is no source just people’s theories on what Ajani’s colors are going to be

        • MagicGALAXY

Sounds like a good one to me.

I hope, if it will be those colors, that it aims right at Selesnya just enough to satisfy me a bit :D

          • Agent666

Why Ajani again? Why not some new planeswalker? If we going like this it might as well has Chandra or Nyssa or whatever… My favorite is Liliana but i would still prefer to have some new planeswalker.

Maybe something that works with devoution – like High Priests of each of the gods. And we should probably get a Multi-color gods as well, that have different abilities based on what devoution you got. If we going by Greek history, then gods like Ares (War) – who could be Black and Red fit, or Dionysos (Wine and Obsession) – who could be Red and White, Aphrodite could be Green and either Red or White, etc…

          • MagicGALAXY

            True on everything you said.

By the way, love your Avatar picture.

            Very magical.

          • Antares

I’m hoping for Champions for each of the Gods (at least the main ones). Granted, more Guild legends seems a bit excessive, so if it happened, it’d be likely to happen with only the mono-color Gods. We are already getting the minor deities for guild legendaries (MOAR SUPPORT XD :P ).

I also think that adding new ‘walkers to the storyline, and promoting them with core sets (as opposed to “Bad versions of the Lorwyn 5″) would be cool.

          • Luke Myers

For a second I thought you were talking about the Champion mechanic.

          • Luke Myers

It is Ajani because of his connection to Elspeth through Bant.

          • TheEyeless

            He’s Nayan?

          • Luke Myers

No, I am referring to the place Bant. It is like a plane.

          • TheEyeless

sorry, i know very little from the storyline, and i thought you were saying ajani was from bant lol…

          • Luke Myers

They met in the past. In bant.

          • Antares

I have a nifty little selesnya deck that I am tuning right now. I really like it, and a G/W Ajani would be amazing (especially if he was between 3 and 5 CMC). Garruk is too expensive for the deck, sadly (only 6 CMC spell is Elspeth, and only because she can win the game on her own (also, she’s a character, I think). I think he (Ajani) is more likely to be in Journey Into Nyx than Born of The Gods.

          • MagicGALAXY

That’s what I think about Ajani too; he is reveled on the Journey to Nyx poster art, which makes me figure he will be in that.

Although Ajani being a G/W planeswalker would be cool, it would also be nice to see a new walker. I know it’s asking much it would still be sweet :D

  • Max Banks Schafer

Personally, I think we’re loooooooooonnng overdue for a first-time printing of Kiora Atua. G/U is my jam, and I’ve longed to see her get printed because her deck in Duels 2012 was definitely my favorite, and its theme fits perfectly with the monster sub-theme of the block.

    • GaryGaryGary

Max Banks Schafer! It’s been a long time buddy! I don’t even remember when we last met! anyway, i agree, i would love to see kiora, but i do not think we will until journey into nyx. my reason for saying that is, we had 3 planeswalkers in theros right?
      1. Ashiok, nightmare weaver
      2. Xenagos, the reveler
      3. elspeth, sun’s champion
so in botg i predict this
      1. new ajani g/w
      2. minotaur guy b/r
      3. new nissa revane
      in nyx
      1. kiora atua
      2. dak fayden( mmmmaayyybbeee, prolly not)
      3. nyx is too far ahead for me to predict this stuff.

      • Antares

That is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many planeswalkers. I think the actual number is 5 per block, and nowadays one per color in core sets (sometimes w/ Nicky B). We had 3 in Theros. I’d think one in planeswalker in Born of the Gods, and another in Journey Into Nyx. My prediction is that Ajani will be in Journey Into Nyx. He is shown in the art with Elspeth, facing down a God-like being (Xenagos in God Form?). One possibility is that Dack Fayden will be in Born of the Gods. Another is that we will have a completely new planeswalker in the set. I’d think a monster-like ‘walker. Born of the Gods looks to have a sub-theme of monsters running wild.

The story seems to be that Xenagos goes into God Mode in Born of The Gods, and has the monsters of Theros run rampant. Then Elspeth, with the help of Ajani (because we can no longer have things get solved by the actual people from the plane), rallies the Heroes of the poleis, the centaurs, and the tritons to turn back the tide and defeat the evil God depicted in the art.

I will predict Journey Into Nyx having a new Ajani, POSSIBLY G/W (though that is unlikely).

        • DafuqYouSay?Gary

it’s not that unlikely, considering we’re long overdue for a g/w planeswalker. honestly i think it’s least likely we see dack fayden, kiora has quite the buzz being a merfolk and whatnot, with it being theros she’ll prolly appear. i threw in the minotaur because there’s been a lot of rumors/guesses about one, and it doesn’t seem unlikely, elvish mystic’s flavor text makes me dream of a new nissa. i know we won’t get them all in one block, but they are my predictions and the ones we most discuss. i predict we will see the ajani in botg because the artwork which contains both elspeth and ajani fighting with xenagod, yeah, it’s the same art from the top of the page, kiora is my nyx prediction, and i believe there will be 6 planeswalkers this block, 3 in theros, 2 in botg, 1 in nyx. so cut nissa or kiora, most likely nissa right? unless ajani isn’t g/w cuz look
          green walkers
          1. kiora atua
          2. nissa
          3. ajani
          4. xenagos
4 green planeswalkers seems unlikely in one block, i think nissa this time may be b/g and ajani may be just white, we’re probably not getting a nissa, but we can dream, and kiora is a hopeful.

          • Antares

Wizards said Absolutely no elves in Theros. Nissa is an Elf, so it’s unlikely. We know Dack Fayden is on Theros, and has been featured on a couple of artwork/background things. He’s one possibility. Another would be a completely new walker (a B/R minotaur, along with a few other good minotaur guys, would be awesome (especially as it would support minotaurs as a tribe). I’d say Kiora Auta is a possibility, if she was ONLY blue. Since everyone is set on her being U/G in the background, she’s unlikely, unless Ajani is G/W. The last couple of blocks have featured only ever 2 ‘walkers of the same color.

I’d say a planeswalker that was not previously printed (for example, Kiora Auta) will be present in Born of the Gods. Ajani being a G/W planeswalker in Journey Into Nyx would be reasonable. He’s Nayan originally, and has previously crossed the color barrier. Going from W to G/W would be fine, especially if it meshes with story. The reason I think ajani will be in Journey Into Nyx is because the artwork you cite was actually revealed to be from Journey Into Nyx. It’s possible that Ajani will come in Journey Into Nyx, but seeing his (and Elspeth’s) prominence in the artwork makes me think that he’ll be in the final set. Another detail is that we already have 3 walkers in the set. We are only getting one more in each of the following blocks. The total number of walkers in every block so far has been 5 (Innistrad went 2/1/2 and had large, small, large sets, RTR was large, large, small, and had 2/2/1).

It also fits with what we’ve heard of the story. The first one is all the players (or most of them) arriving or being introduced. The second is Xenagos’s rise to godhood, and his subsequent (evil, I guess) reign. This would support the “event decks”. The Hydra showed us how Theros worked. Heroes went out, and defeated dangerous monsters that threatened the poleis. The Horde would imply that the “monsters” of Theros have unified somehow, and are bringing chaos and destruction on the poleis and other races. The final one is Elspeth and Ajani turning the tide.

            Anyway,
            tl;dr
Kiora Auta is a possibility in the second, Ajani seems (to me) more likely to be in 3rd set, and right now we’re all just wildly speculating.

PS. The artwork looks AMAZING, though. I’m sad that they took down the (presumed) Gods that had been previously on the Wizards site. They looked quite cool. I’m wondering if they’ll do RTR or GTC Gods, or mix them differently.

          • Antares

Whoops. First paragraph, I meant if Ajani was ONLY white.

          • Xenagary

everything you said made perfect sense, but there is at least one example of more than 5 planeswalkers, look at zendikar you had jace, chandra, nissa, sorin, sarkhan, and gideon, thats six bro. also, i’m a naya player myself and i look forward to a g/w ajani, but if there is none, i was pleased with xenagos anyway.

          • Antares

I’m very much hoping for a G/W Ajani. I prefer Bant, but Naya is a (very) close second. :)

I’m hoping that he has enchantment related abilities that let us riff off of things like Unflinching Courage.

PS. It would be awesome if they did 6 or 7 planeswalkers total. They’re some of the more unique aspects of the lore, and certainly fun to play with/against. :)

          • TheEyeless(donewithgary)

I’m not saying you guys were wrong about the 5 being it, BUT! I can hope for 6 all i want, who knows, maybe it’ll happen, maybe not. I hope the new Ajani runs like a buffer, what about an emblem or something? good buffer idea here, just real bad unrealistic.
            ajani, hasntbeenspoiledyet
            cmc= 3ww
            SL= 5
+1- target creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn, scry 1
-x- target creature gets +x/+x and gains double strike until the end of turn
-9- creatures you control get +x/+x until end of turn, where x is your life total.

          • MagicGALAXY

Wooo there body your Ajani is quite a bit off in realism. The +1 is okay, but the -X ability is really powerful and the last one is too much to wait for. Here is something I have come up with:

            Cost: 3WW
+1: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control, then Scry 1.
-2: Creatures you control gain protection from a color of your choice until end of turn.
-5: You get an emblem with,”At the beginning of your upkeep, exile target permanent. You gain life equal to that card’s converted mana cost. Return it to the battlefield under it’s owner’s control at the beginning of there next upkeep.”

            Loyalty: 3

            How’s that?

        • ZedWrecker

Does this mean Magic the Gathering has become a metaphor for American Foreign policy, where only the magic outsiders can solve the world’s problems? ZING.

      • YouGotFranked

Theros was a big set, hence the 3 planeswalker. BOTG and JIN are small sets so 1 PW each. Blocks usually have no more than 5 planeswalker.

        • akakj7

but gatecrash was a small set with 2 planeswalkers

          • AndySkryz

Gatecrash was actually still a large set because Wizards had to balance the guilds in GTC with the guilds in RTR.

  • I’mSoGaryRightNow

HEY!!!! ELVISH MYSTIC HAS SOME PRETTY AWESOME FLAVOR TEXT, HUH? GO LOOK AT IT? WHO SAID IT? WHO’S COMING BACK? POTENTIALLY?… I HOPE SO! GO… READ… IT!

    • PoetMaster-X

May be only in Nyx, but I’m looking farward for Nissa… …she won’t be assisting elves this time, I guess…

      • MagicGALAXY

        Who knows what could happen.

I would love to see some new/reprinted elves though if Nissa is coming back :D

        • ZedWrecker

I’mma let you finish, but Deathrite Shaman is the greatest elf of ALL TIME!!

          • MagicGALAXY

            He is fantastic :D

However, to me at least, he is only fantastic if you can pull him out on turn 1-3.

          • ZedWrecker

Yeah, technically true. I think for the combination of flavor, form, and function, he is really a hard card to beat. I consider him one of my favorite cards of all time. He looks like a Sith Lord!

          • JaredElick

He’s absolutely amazing on turn one, and that should be your goal, but I’ve dropped him on turn 10 and won because of it. He just brings value to any game.

    • YouGotFranked

Calm down dude. Elvish Mystic was in M14 which has no relations whatsoever with Theros. As far as we know, Elvish mystic could (and probably) be native from the plane of Zendikar, which would explain why Nissa Revan was quoted. Wizard already said there would be no Elves in the Theros Block (replaced with Satyrs for flavor reasons) and Nissa without elves is plains stupid.

      • Nathofthegaryleaf

m14 is the core set that leads us into and prepares us for theros, builds off of the theros block. Nissa without elves is okay considering she’s looking for help to stop the eldrazi, i bet gods could help with that, if only they could planeswalk…. also nissa is experimenting with black magic so she may be b/g if she appears.

        • YouGotFranked

Core sets don’t prepare for anything flavorwise. They are made with creatures and spells from many planes. For example, if we reel back to M13, Krenko is from Ravnica, Odric from Innistrad and Guardians of Akrasa are from Bant. A core set has zero link with the following block. Wizard said so themselves. As for Elvish Mystic, the fact that it’s an elf and that it mention Nissa pretty much point out to Zendikar.

      • Sergio Ramadán

        Wow, such god, much awesome

  • Goblin Wielder

    Ideas for new planeswalkers U/G: 4 CMC (1 colorless, 3 hybrid, U/G)
+1 Unitl the begining of your next upkeep, you may play creature cards as though they had flash.
-2 Target Player Draws 2 Cards
-7 Get an emblem that says “Creatures cards you control cannot be countered; Creature cards you control may be played as though they had flash.”
    [3] Loyalty Counters

    B/R: 5 CMC (3 colorless, 1R, 1B)
+2 Creatures you control gain Haste unitl end of turn.
0 Target creature gains Intimidate Unitl end of turn.
-7 Get an emblem that says “Whenever an opponent draws a card, that player loses 2 life; Players cannot gain life.”
    [4] Loyalty Counters

    • DeathMetalLlama

I like u/g one but the b/r ult would be op as hell and Intimidate probably wont be making a comeback (hopefully) Plus there is a god that keeps players from gaining life.

      • Goblin Wielder

the only reason i say the thing about intimidate is because Mogis’s marauder gives intimidate, and it just seems to fit with the theme!

        • DeathMetalLlama

          Thats fair enough

        • a

no. have minotaur walker w/ +1 didgeridoo and -1 target minotaur gets +2/+0 and intimidate till end of turn. Ultimate stays the same.

      • manahero

im fairly new to magic, but there was an enchantment creature that had/bestowed intimidate, so please correct me if im wrong. would it make sense that because it was in the first set of the block that it would carry through the whole block?

    • Antares

The U/G one will NEVER happen, especially not in this standard. Remember, we have Devotion. You just put a turn 4 dude that adds in 3 devotion to Green AND Blue. The abilities are also somewhat . . . unbalanced. The first one is fine. Drawing 2 cards as a minus seems a bit strong, but given that she’d likely die after that . . . it’s basically a 4 mana divination. Okay. The ultimate. . . . no. Just no. First off, the ultimate invalidates the plus ability. There is no walker whose plus ability becomes obsolete once they use their ultimate. The second part is that the “uncounterable” part of the ultimate is basically just blue hate. It’s useless against every other color. There’s enough hate for blue control in the format right now.

I would think that a Gold planeswalker that riffed off a combination of Garruk, Primal Hunter and some card draw would be fine.

      Example:
      5 CMC, 3UG
+1: Put a 2/2 Triton token into play with “U+Tap, tap down target creature”
-3: Draw a card for each creature under your control
-8: Place a 5/5 Leviathan with Islandwalk under your control for each island in play (both yours and your opponent’s).
      Starting Loyalty: 4
That’s just an idea, and I am SURE it is unbalanced and would need tweaking. Compare with all other walkers, though. The plus one has an effect that changes the board (puts a token) or otherwise affects the game (with the exception of Bad Gideon, all Planeswalkers do this). The minus has a strong effect that is completely different from the plus. The Ultimate wins you the game then and there (especially if you can provide haste).

The B/R Minotaur seems okay on the first and second abilities, but the Ultimate is kind of brokenly good. Remember, you have no choice in drawing, so this basically amounts to, “Each opponent has an unalterable clock to beat you”. It has zero interaction, which is why I don’t think an ability like that would be used. I’m not sure where I’d take it, but I think it could get modified positively to have a stronger Plus and Minus ability, and a more balanced (but still winning) Ultimate.

PS. I think there will only be two more walkers in the block, and one is strongly suspected to be a new version of Ajani. I think it’s unlikely they will print two planeswalkers in a small set. Especially dual color planeswalkers, since we are getting dual colored Minor Gods. Just my two cents.

      • MagicGALAXY

Wèz, Artifact Mind-Welder [5 colorless mana]
+1: Put a 1/1 Myr artifact token onto the battlefield under your control.
-3: You may put an colorless artifact creature from your hand onto the battlefield with converted mana cost X or less without paying the mana cost, where X is the amount of artifacts you control.
-5: Wèz, Artifact Mind-Welder deals X damage to target player, where X is equal to half the number of artifacts you control. Damage can’t be prevented.

        What do you think?

        • Antares

I wouldn’t include “Damage can’t be prevented” on a colorless ability. I’ve only ever seen it in Red cards. The other reason I wouldn’t put it is that damage prevention only really applies to protection (with a few small exceptions). Doesn’t seem necessary, since protection is almost always from colors. Other than that, it seems like a very well balanced walker, very well suited for an artifact themed block (like Mirrodin).

Do you think the part about CMC in the minus is necessary? Caller of Beasts doesn’t have it, and it’s basically the same ability for Green creatures. I’d say it looks good, but I *highly* doubt that we’d get a colorless walker in this block. Definitely be interesting to get a colorless walker like Ugin (background, he was the one that imprisoned the ELdrazi because he had a strong affinity for colorless magic).

          • MagicGALAXY

Thanks and yah, damage preventing wouldn’t seem right. I wish they would make a colorless walker in a future block that returns Myrs and artifact stuff :)

          • Antares

Four is fine. The Loyalty is only an issue when it exceeds CMC (e.g. Ajani, Caller of the Pride), or is too close to the ultimate. In this case, the Ultimate can close the game out, but won’t end things on its own. I think it’s fine.

PS. An artifact block would be cool. Maybe someone taking the fight to New Phyrexia? Story-wise, they ended the rebellion of the Mirrans when Elesh Norn took over the Red and Black lords’ domains, and dedicated three territories to ending things. I doubt we’d see Myrs come again (since they are dead or corrupted by Phyrexia), but a similar concept and a colorless walker would be awesome.

          • MagicGALAXY

The block would be called,”Newest Phyrexia” lol ;)

      • Goblin Wielder

I agree with you about my U/G walkers +1 and Ult, i Hadn’t thought about that! But the -2 seems pretty fair to me, especially with the current meta. I mean Jace AOT usually draws you two cards also. And big Jace’s +1 is draw a card. So I don’t think that is too far fetched, And the mana cost on it was just a thought! I would just like to see more hybrid mana combinations. I think they bring a really cool dynamic to the set with Nykthos and such.

        • Antares

I think the minus is fair. The Plus and Ultimate would need work. I definitely don’t think that putting hybrid mana would be a good idea. Maybe put 3 colored symbols? One U, one G, and then another U or G depending on which color we want the abilities to focus on?

The issue with hybrid mana is that it makes the card FAR more expensive in terms of money, and provides WAY too much viability to the card. Think about it, Nightveil Specter is now 9 because lots of B and U decks want to have 4 for devotion. Were it not for the fact that Evangel of Heliod is 6 mana (GOD, I wish he were 5, even), Boros Reckoner would jump into the 20$ range because it would be a 4 of in 2 different decks.

Devotion is an ability that has warped standard, and giving more creatures that fit viably into multiple decks because of their mana cost seems like warping standard further towards devotion. I’d personally not put them in outside of multi-color blocks.

    • ash

also becauuse of the way WotC does set disign it will be like 2-3 years before you ever know if they liked your ideas.

  • Anthony

    The spoilers

    • MagicGALAXY

      Well done lol :D

  • Demlic

Enough speculating… lets see some cards already!

  • Nimbus

WIth Theros we had a few distinct color combonations that were common Black/Red, Green Red, Black Blue, Green Blue, and we got a planeswalker for both Green Red, and Black Blue. So it is my highest hopes we will see our first Green Blue Planeswalker i really want some new cards in my main play colors.

    • Adam Gillespie

No green blue walker this set, its a green white ajani and a blue or blue red dak

      • Shadow921

they said dak wouldnt be a part of the game just a character

        • Adam Gillespie

When did they say this? be news to me

          • Hand of the Praetors

When Dak’s comics were anounced wizards stated that Dak and his stories are non-canon, therefore we will 99% certain, never see a Dak Fayden planeswalker card. even thought this makes be sad i admit it is true, remember, Dak was on both on innistrad and ravnica but no card.

      • Andru Giddings

I don’t believe that ajani would go green he was red white once before and hasn’t been vengeant since bolas and him fought. If anything since he is fighting a god I believe he could go vengeant again but I can’t see a green white ajani. It is very possible. Also as for a green/blue planeswalker, kiora atua a merfolk planeswalker who lives on an unknown plane and all we know is it has to be a plane with a lot of sea creatures. Theros has thassa god of the sea and plenty of merfolk and even kraken and other things. Also her name means born of the gods hint hint much:)

        • Andru Giddings

Not saying they would reprint ajani vengeant but he could be red white again and have a new name or he could just be white again or another color combo

        • Adam Gillespie

Well last I saw the art made ajani look green white and last I heard dak was a walker card please post some links if this has changed

          • Antares

Dak isn’t a card, sadly. He’s printed in the art of some cards, but has not graced us as a playable ‘walker yet.

I am personally hoping for a new guy (like him). My favorite color is White, so hopefully that? I doubt it, with an Ajani in the wings, but I’ve heard that Dak is U/W or U/W/R. Would be fun, right?

        • Antares

Ajani could switch to green. It would still be within Naya. The art also suggests Ajani is Green/white, and his deck in Duels 2014 was a G/W Enchantment deck. It’s possible form the hints. It could be a mono-white Ajani, though (still, after the disappointment that was Gideon The Unplayable, of the False Expectations, hopefully Wizards will give us a G/W Ajani).

Though I *do* think that’s why we wouldn’t get a G/U planeswalker. That would make 3 green walkers in a block, and 6 of them in a standard (at 2 or 3 for every color combo). It’s possible, though. Ajani is coming in the last set (Journey Into Nyx), so if Kiora Auta is coming, it’s in this set. :)

      • Adam Gillespie

always nice to be proven wrong with a good card though lol

  • luffy’s hat

alright one more spoiled card this is progress

    • MagicGALAXY

But that’s not enough progress for me to deal with

      • AdventureMormon

        We need more spoilers.

        • MagicGALAXY

That’s why I always post this picture, hoping that Wizards will see the problem…

          • AdventureMormon

Good to see that someone is doing their part!

          • MagicGALAXY

Yep, and I hope one day everyone will post that meme all at once.

          • AdventureMormon

            That would be fantastic.

          • AdventureMormon

            I think it worked!!!
            Woo Kiora!

  • Tony Osterloh

    KERANOS THE FICKLE?!!!

    • MagicGALAXY

      WHAT’S A FICKLE?!?!?!?

  • ZedWrecker

I have a theory, and I may be wrong, but it almost feels like the dual colored gods may have some sort of tribal aspect to them. I doubt that they will be a dominant feature, because Theros isn’t a tribal-heavy block, but I can see some kind of interesting interplay with tribal dynamics as not being out of the equation. Think about it, Mogis has minotaurs, Ioan plays well with soldiers, and Pharika seems to mix with gorgons Just throwing it out there.

    • TommySweany

I agree. I am guessing the G/W one will have something to do with centaurs. maybe that is how their devotion works. Something like if you control less than 5 (fill in type of creature) so and so is not a creature. or it might be different number for each minor god. I also hope they are hybrid and not gold

      • ZedWrecker

Man, I thought it would just be something like token generation because people love that, but you, sir, you brought the next level speculation. You made my Christmas.

        • TommySweany

that could possibly be the ability on it, and it would be cool if they had a centaur lord and centaurs that don’t cost three or more mana like some 1 and 2 drops would be awesome!

          • MagicGALAXY

I’d pay to see that too :D

  • Kenny Frank

I feel that mono white is the least played devotion deck in standard. I really hope they print some good mono white cards. I also want to see a blue/ white planes walker or a green/ white planes walker.

    • Disciple of Garruk

agreed, white is the weakest for devotion mechanic

      • THEGREAT

Does anyone else remember that white sucked until it became the designated exile color?

        • ThunderAssault

It became good because of Brave the Elements

          • IamPd

i guess he’s not talking about standard

    • MagicGALAXY

      Agreed.

Even though the 2/1 1 drop white rare from Theros is amazing and the mythic angel from M14 is awesome, it’s not enough to fill the wound of mono-white.

    • That guy

mono white consistently sees play at all the PTQs and does well. much more than what I have seen from mono green. I do also hope they print some nice white cards (and green) to even out the devotion.

    • Antares

That’s because mono-white lacks the follow-through for devotion to be a successful strategy. Mono-green suffers even more from this. Look at it this way: Mono-black is a control strategy with amazing removal that can kill you out of nowhere. Mono-blue is a good beat-down strategy that can kill you out of nowhere, and has arguably one of the best finishers in the game (Master of Waves). Mono-red can be an awesome beatdown strategy with the ability to kill you out of nowhere (Fanatic of Mogis).

They all have a creature that works with the plan on-curve (Master of Waves and Fanatic top their respective curves. Grey Merchant can curve out very well, and has a cost that isn’t a big deal in a control deck). Mono-green has 3 devotion creatures. Nylea’s Disciple only gains life (bad), Karametra’s Acolyte is a 4 CMC ramp creature (bad), and Reverent Hunter is too early in the curve to matter. Green has no creatures that truly take advantage of devotion (if Reverent Hunter had trample or haste, MAYBE the strategy would see play).

White’s strategy basically becomes a White Weenie deck. The problem is that our devotion card costs 6 mana. This means that the ONLY way we truly play a devotion deck is to hope we can get cute with Nykthos, and play Evangel or an Elspeth on turn 4 instead of 6. Granted, the deck can ROCK when it does this, but it honestly doesn’t do enough because it’s only this. You basically play a white weenie deck, and try to beat out supreme verdict. In short, white right now doesn’t really have the tools to have a competitive Devotion deck. We lack cards to take advantage of devotion, half our enablers are heroic creatures, and the color lacks finishers aside from Elspeth.

  • Ian

New creature type “Demigod” – any thoughts? If not in this set but the next is my prediction.

    • MagicGALAXY

I am in love with the Percy Jackson series…so….ehhh….ummm….

    • Shadow921

they already said demigod wont be a creature type

      • MagicGALAXY

        Awww… :(

  • Disciple of Garruk

I’m hoping for a R/G satyr lord. I already love the combo of voyaging satyr and nykthos, throw in a lord and xenagos’s ability to produce satyrs and the potential for a tribal satyr deck is there.

    • No Name

I would love a tribal satyr deck that would be amazing

    • Adam Gillespie

well xenagos is guna be the R/G god so might be something in his god card that helps them, or just wont be a thing

    • Jon

Well, he does clearly go all evil & junk.
So maybe they make a second Xenagos planeswalker that’s R/B instead.
I mean, demi god or not, dude should still be a planeswalker, right?

      • Adam Gillespie

in theros makes more sense to become a god than to do a colour swap, also hes already evil. Planewalkers can die, Gods are indestructible and have followers, know which i would rather be if i was into making satyrs

        • ZedWrecker

True story. I like how non-black creatures are evil now, unlike it was for years before.

          • ZedWrecker

I also like how some black creatures are arguably heroic. Agent of the Fates looks like he could be one hell of a compelling protagonist.

          • Antares

Agreed. I like that Black doesn’t represent evil anymore. Now it represents aspects of the human spirit that can turn to evil or good (even IF they have a propensity for the latter). It’s also fun that White can be evil now. I enjoy the changes to the colors’ identities, even if they were somewhat confusing when I got back into it.

Black/Red is still EEEEEEVIL, though. XD

          • THEGREAT

So your saying black represents the story of the two wolves inside all of us?

          • Antares

Yes. That is an apt comparison. Entropy is a necessary part of existence, after all. The description of the color says it all. At their best, they are unashamed of themselves and ambitious. They can demonstrate just as much altruism and empathy as anyone. Their magic merely has darker aspects, and requires a stronger will to truly utilize without succumbing to its darker nature.

          • ZedWrecker

Now I wanna see an RB “heroic” character. The closest we get is Tymaret, who strikes me as almost slightly tragic, but he’s still pretty dark.

          • Antares

Well, R/B is one that I still think is just plain evil. While straight black can be heroic, I don’t think R/B (among the color combinations) can be. I also think Grixis can’t be. Red and Black combine shamelessness and ambition with the desire for instant gratification and Impulsiveness. It also combines powers associated with Entropy and Chaos. That’s basically a recipe for evil. You are combining a font of magic which thrives on decay with one that thrives on upheaval, leading to a propensity towards destruction (red) to hasten decay and death (black). I think the other combinations can fall under either the spectrum of “Good” (G/B and B/W) or Neutral (U/B), as well as evil.

Red/Black strikes me as still evil. Every creature I’ve seen with those two colors would fall under Chaotic Evil, with the exception of Grixis, which are Evil masterminds (can fall under Chaotic, Neutral, or Lawful), and Dega (B/R/W), which would fall under Lawful Evil.

          • ZedWrecker

You raise a good point. Philosophically, it doesn’t make sense for BR to to be anything but chaotic evil or, at best, chaotic neutral. Only evidence I might have for chaotic neutral is boggarts from Lorwyn block. They don’t seem outright evil, but sure as hell chaotic.

          • Steven Satak

‘”Merely” has darker aspects’… heh. The ‘darker’ part is what most folks object to, and most practictioners simply don’t have the will to resist the temptations presented by that ‘darker nature’. You call it ‘succumbing’, as though the final fail were a result of weakness. But the proper word is ‘inevitable’, since the stronger your will, the deeper you go until it all falls apart. It *always* falls apart in the end. I love how this place reduces evil to an abstract, to be discussed at leisure by guys whose closest encounter with it will be when someone steals their card binder….

Whatever wins, hey. But don’t start with the amateur philosophy – just stick to the card game.

  • Disciple of Garruk

how about a xenagos proxy using Danny DeVitos character from the Hercules cartoon. LOL

  • luffy’s hat

come on wizards, give your loyal fans a holiday gift and spoil some new bombs

    • MagicGALAXY

      Our voices have been answered!

  • Elijah Leffingwell

Kiora just got spoiled by tcgplayer

    • No Name

      Here she is

  • Icy Hot Merfolk

Turn 3 Kiora. I will say Pack Rat . Pass turn. T3 Kiora…. i will say Nightveil Specter. In this case when Kiora gets to 5 , always crack on Five. (99.98%)

    • Shadow921

if there are multiple pack rats only damage from one gets prevented so she might never get to 5 but if you get there that would be really cool and funny

  • THEGREAT

The problem with Kiora’s +1 is that it prevents the damage TO the other permanent. Good for politics in Elder Dragon Highlander, as well, in that format you have proliferate and Doubling season to -5 her the turn you cast her but marginal (at best) in standard.

    • Antares

Written for non-abusability of Boros Reckoner. Her plus prevents people from using “Fight” mechanics or blocking to still deal damage from that permanent to you.

I think she’ll get along great in standard, because she has what amounts to a cycling and ramp ability combined, her plus can do things, especially against control, and her ultimate seems like it will be glorious. I don’t think she’ll be a 4-of in any deck, but most decks with these colors (Ana, Bant, Ceta) will want at least a few of her.

      • ZedWrecker

I like imagining her wrapping her target in bubble wrap.

        • AdventureMormon

          Excellent imagery.

        • Antares

KIORA used BUBBLE! It’s super effective!

          • ZedWrecker

            Such bubble. So slowed. Wow.

      • THEGREAT

Dumbass! READ THE COMMENT! I said EDH.

        • ZedWrecker

          Such mature. So intelligent. Wow.

    • Shadow921

you cant crack this one the turn she comes in with doubling season

      • THEGREAT

PROLIFERATE… geez, read the comment first!

        • Kevashida

So, she comes in with two. Then you proliferate, which would give her one more. Doubling season catches it, and gives her two instead. Now she has four. You’d have to proliferate twice for this to work.

          • kevashida

Never mind, I forgot that doubling season would make her come in with four to begin with. So, yeah, she enters the battlefield with four, proliferate her and now she has six. Seems pretty sweet.

          • ZedWrecker

Such doubling season. So proliferate. Very counters. Wow.

  • Antares

SO, what do we think we’ll get in this set?

I speculate that it will be mostly monsters, with the heroes coming in the last set to turn things a’right. I’d guess lots of big fat honkers, minotaurs, cyclops, etc coming.

For the Gods, I’d think Mogis (R/B), Ephara (W/U), Karametra (W/G), and Xenagos Ascended (G/R). Not sure who the other one would be. I’d have gone with the “Oh, It’s the RTR Gods”, but Xenagos breaks that mold. Maybe it will be Iroas? The Centaur God in the art seems like it would be. The imagery doesn’t evoke “Goddess of Plenty” from Karametra, or “Goddess of Wisdom” from Ephara. The fact that it’s a male centaur also puts a nail in the coffin for them.

We’re also getting a purely enchantment keyword. I think it’s going to be either something similar to devotion (but for enchantments), or something to do with targeting enchantments with spells. I don’t think there will be enchantment lands after the debacle that was the Enchantment Lands from the original Mirrodin block.

So, there’s my predictions so far. Lots of monsters/baddies, with a few heroic good guys stemming the tide, Mogis, Ephara, Karametra, Xenagos, and Iroas as our gods for this expansion, and an enchantment keyword but no enchantment lands.

    • mr_jonix

the last one (WB) is most likely Athreos

      • Hand of the Praetors

Artheos is WB, Phenax is UB so, Phenax.

  • Spoiled

    wer dem other spoilers!

  • Acrux

One of the spoiler images shows a starry man-bull centaur. Then in the red card “Priest of Iroas”, one can see the same man-bull centaur in sculpture format. Therefore, Iroas (R/W) is a very plausible deity appearing in the expansion. If Xenagos Ascended appears as well, it’s probable that either the Gatecrash colors will be utilized, or another combination of dual-colored beings will make an appearance.
Hoping that Mogis is a minotaur; they’ve been getting lots of love in the Theros set alone.

    • Antares

Well, I’d think Iroas, Xenagos, Mogis, Karametra, Ephara would be my guesses, then. One for each of the appropriate Scry-lands, the one central to the plot-line, and Iroas because his art was spoiled. I’m also hoping Mogis is some sort of minotaur, even though his creature type will be “God”.

  • Max Banks Schafer

Well, I’ll be damned. Turns out intuition paid off. xD Does anyone suppose that she might be, say…..a child of Thassa?

    • Hand of the Praetors

I think Kiora is native to zendikar.

  • Kenny Frank

I really hope that each god involves a tribal ability. Tritons and minitours and things of that nature.

    • ZedWrecker

      Let’s get minotaur-ded.

  • ThunderAssault

Oh great. I can see it in the horizon. Bant control everywhere with Kiora. Play her, +1 targeting Mutavault. Stall out to Æthering or something big and smash them to bits. It’s going to happen.

    • Antares

I doubt it will be that bad. She’ll bring Bant Control back, but nowhere near the level of dominance it had in the Wolfrun Bant standard last season. It’s nice so see that Ana, Ceta, and Bant will now (mostly) have a chance to come back into things as major players.

      Besides:
Mutavault? that’s cute. **Tramples over 3 damage per mutavault w/ Wurm tokens.
Mutavalt? awww! throws 20 creatures around it and one gets stalled.
Mutavalt? How nice. *plays any black kill spell*
Mutavault? That’s sweet. *plays celestial flare*
Mutavault? ADORABLE *goes around it w/ flying or unblockable*

UW/X control’s plan is NEVER mutavault for blocking. They use it to close out the game once they have successfully stalled you out. Their plan for controlling your creatures is Verdict, Planar CLeansing, and assorted removal from their third color of choice (or just in U/W, if that’s what you are into).

      • bob

he meant use her plus to stop mutivault, one of the only things that can attack on field in any slow match-up, from hitting her not mutivault from his deck to block.

    • PoetMaster-X

I thought the same, when I saw Kiora the 1st time… …but I realized that we gonna’ need more than her for Bant to become competative again…

  • asdfjkl

white weenie does not need devotion strategies because it can just wreck face by itself like soldier of pantheon into precinct captain into reconer or medic is a good enough for any white weenie strategy in my opinion

  • PoetMaster-X

Mogis, Ephara, Karametra will be the only gods in the set & they will be multicolored… …we can’t have 4 gods as many said here, ‘cuz we only gonna’ get 3 scry-lands & that means that in BOG, they’ll concentrate on U/W, R/B & G/B…

Tough, I’m might be wrong, since we did not get any multy colored gods in Theros, yet we got multy colored cards of 5 2 color combinations, so who knowes?..

I think, there will be a total of 5 multiy colored gods in the whole block, we’ll get 3 in BOG & the remeaning 2 in Nyx…

As for Xenagos “Ascended”, I don’t think it’ll happen… …we already have a Xenagos as a planeswalker & it would be wierd to play both at the same time in a standard match, so if Xenagos becomes a god, I think he won’t be the only one in the story & none of these would appear as god cards… …we might get an equipment, or may be an enchantment that could give a creature godlike abilities, probably an equipment that can only be equipped on legendary creatures & give sthem that (similar to Conda’s Banner)… …it would make sense to have something like that in the Theros block, since Conda’s Banner was in Kamigawa & that block was also mythological(japanese)…….

I’m hoping to see usful R/B & U/W cards in this set & the same for R/W in Nyx… :)

    • vacantVisionary

Mark Rosewater has said, explicitly, on numerous occasions, that there are 15 gods – five primary mono-colored gods, and ten secondary two-colored gods. There will be a full cycle of five gods in each of the upcoming sets.

    • Antares

I think this set will see some support for the W/X strategies, and White in general (but not a lot). Most of it will directed at Jund, though (I think). Those are the traditional “monster” colors. I’m expecting to see *most* of the support towards Mogis (R/B), and Xenagos Ascended (R/G). I expect to see some good support for Minotaurs, too. I don’t think we’ll see a lot of White in this set, and what we DO see will be in combinations, rather than straight White.

As to the Gods, I think it will be:
      - Xenagos Ascended: storyline. The entirety of Theros block is the machinations of Xenagos to ascend to godhood, and other Gods’ plans to stop him from becoming an Evil Overlord. We also don’t have a G/R God currently mentioned. All the other guilds have their god mentioned in one form or another (with their colors implied strongly). We also haven’t had any hints at who the 5th God would be; if a bad guy is going to show up, it kind of HAS to be in Block 1 or 2. . . . I think (and hope) we will see him in this set. He also shows up in multiple artworks of the set having ascended. I can’t think that those would all be spells. He’d also fit with the hints of “Much Minotaur support”.
      - Karametra: comes in with her Scry-land
      - Ephara: comes in with her Scry-land
      - Mogis: comes in with his scry-land. Also, if my prediction of lots of minotaur and monster support ends up correct, he’d fit very well.
      - Iroas: the God spoiled in artwork looks FAR more warlike than a god of Plenty or Wisdom would. That’s the entirety of it.

I’m thinking that the multi-color cards in Theros will be the most support by far. I’m hoping for Monstrosity enablers, and monster enablers in this set. Then next set we get Devotion and Heroic enablers. Hopefully Bestow and Scry both give us some pretty awesome cards this next set.

      • ZedWrecker

        Such minotaur. So horns. Wow.

    • bob

your intire assumption is based on the fact that only 3 of the scrylands name’s have become known as of yet and since there has only been one official spoiler, kiora, that means they are still unofficial and were found and memorized by someone and that they didn’t see/hear the names of the others or they didn’t remember their names.

    • Brenno

There are 10 gods to place and 2 sets to place them in…. 10/2 = 5 NOT 3

  • celticspride

cant wait for born of the gods actually

  • MagicGALAXY

    HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! :D

    • Sensei

      Likewise

      • ZedWrecker

Where is new planeswalker? We should have at least 20 new planeswalkers. One of each color and color combo, plus at least one from the new color i made up, BROUPLE. It’s brown and purple COMBINED.

        • CodyGozRawr

          Agreed

        • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

I’m working or reformulating my 5 color deck but the Naya one might make it up soon. . .It’s not blitz. . . and it take’s a page from a bant deck. . .

          • MagicGALAXY

Cool! Can’t wait to see it! :D

  • Squee

And not a single one of you guys are mentioning Pharika (G/B), Kruphix (G/U), Keranos (U/R), Phenax (U/B), or Athreos (W/B).

    • ZedWrecker

Woah, let’s not get crazy here.

      • Dillon McHugh

Selesneya all the way. Bant is fun too, so at least we can meet in the middle.

        • ZedWrecker

Never got into Bant, unfortunately. Closest I got was when I build a wicked radical Simic deck, but I rarely splash in any white into any of my decks. The only exception has been my red/white Soldier deck I’ve been trying to work with, but honestly, my elf deck does the same basic thing much more effectively. Thanks, Rhys the Redeemed.

          • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

            I’m gonna bring Jund Back!

          • ZedWrecker

Jund never left. It just took a nap.

          • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

Jund left standard. . .because people aren’t creative. . . I’m an Esper EDH man myself, I refuse to play Esper in standard it all hinge’s on one card and the solution for that card is so simple “Slaughter Games” you get rid of the main healing tactic they have.

          • ZedWrecker

People aren’t creative, eh? I find it a screaming shame no one thought to combo the RB and the BG maze runners in a deck. I think they synergize halfway decently.

          • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

These day’s allot of people are just interested at whats top decking at Starcity. Thus we have all of these mono blue, mono black devotion deck and Esper control. . .

          • ZedWrecker

MOGIS HAS ARRIVED! AWAKEN THE JUND! FEED THE JUND ITS ANGER! GOD OF SLAUGHTER, BRING YOUR VENGEANCE!

    • jeofry the rainbow panda

pretty sure pharika is that nyx gorgon chick

  • Jason Friday

I just can’t wait to trade any Kiora’s I pull on day one. I am looking forward to the w/u scry land and more of the theme of the block to enter standard.

    • ZedWrecker

TRADE IT TO MEEEEEEEE. I also have a Tamiyo if you’ve got a Ral Zarek.

  • http://tappedout.net/users/Op_Zero_Films_@Maverick/ William S. Miller

gonna make a naya, jund, Selesniya, and a 5 color deck this time around. . . (jund and Selesniya are done but upgrade’s would be nice XD)

  • ZedWrecker

I have a theory as to the nature of Ashiok I’d like to throw out there.
Ashiok might not be just a guy who got so soaked in terror magic he started breaking down.
Ashiok might be an aspect of Nicol Bolas.
Now, hear me out before tearing this one down.
    Prior
to The Mending, Bolas was one of the most powerful planeswalkers to
exist. He was powerful enough to pretty much resurrect himself when
Tetsuo Umezawa killed him. However, when the mending happened, it cut
down on the power of all planeswalkers, making them a bit more
    reasonable and mortal.
However, Bolas wasn’t just some run-of-the-mill planeswalker. Over centuries, he’s been amassing power, energy.
Physics says energy cannot be destroyed, only diverted.
My theory is Bolas had so much power, he shot off at least one fraction of himself. Possibly more.
Ashiok could represent the power of fear Bolas had, or maybe Bolas’ own fear of being betrayed by a subject like Tetsuo.
    For
a visual cue, look at Ashiok’s face. It’s two giant horns. Look at
Bolas’ henchmen. Disciple of Bolas, Augur of Bolas and Mindclaw Shaman
incorporate the horns into their garb. Ashiok’s got horns coming out of
his face because he is part of Bolas, torn asunder.
    The reason Ashiok
has no defined gender is because Ashiok is essentially a super-powered,
self-aware avatar of Bolas. Avatars have some gender dimorphism, but
look at Avatar of Will. No-one knows if that’s a dude or a chick,
    really.
I’ll admit, I’m probably just grasping at straws.
But if I’m right, I’m looking forward to other possible fractions of Bolas, like an RB and a UR fraction.

    • Larom

I like this theory a lot, nice thinking!

      • ZedWrecker

I also theorized in Return to Ravnica’s story arc that Ral Zarek was going to end up becoming an ally of Bolas because Bolas would respect Ral for his ingenuity and ruthlessness and Ral would accept because Bolas could fill that dragon-shaped void in his life when he inevitably either leaves or is kicked out of the Izzet League.

        • eidorian

Bolas’ might use him, not respect him, he feels no such thing for anyone. Plus Zarek became Izzet’s representative in the city council created by Jace after he became the Guildpact

          • ZedWrecker

Respect is a relative term for Bolas. He doesn’t truly respect anything, but he might favor Ral as a special toy he brings out for fancy doom. I didn’t read the new Ravnica book, so I didn’t know that, but now I do.

    • a

      That would be awesome!

    • Subion

So what would happen if jace found these three fractions of bolas and does what sasuke did to orochimaru? I believe you could be right though. It would be interesting to see that as part of the story.

      • ZedWrecker

I don’t know, because I don’t really watch anime. Honestly, I don’t much care for the idea of Jace being involved with any part of this. I’d prefer Gideon or Sorin.

    • MagicGALAXY

Really thoughtful theory; I think it makes great sense to me :D

    • ZedWrecker

I’m really proud to see my theory got 20 likes from you guys. Makes me pretty happy.

  • elfire

you would think a month before the release that they would add more than just 5 cards…

    • Copy Paste

“Kiora is just a sneak peek at the Born of the Gods previews, which begin in earnest on Monday, January 13, and continue for two weeks until Friday, January 24.”-Wizards : )

      • ZedWrecker

But that’s like a week away. I want at least six cards spoiled by tomorrow. I’m not even asking for seven. Just six.

  • Kenny Frank

I really hope that the next official spoilers include a god. I really want to know what the mechanic is.

  • Hand of the Praetors

I have a feeling that the minor gods will be rare as opposed to mythic anyone else getting this feeling.

    • Kenny Frank

That would be rediculous. They’re still gods.

    • Adam Gillespie

      MARO said there mythic

  • brad

I’m almost positive we will see a w/g ajani in this block, probably in journey

    • MagicGALAXY

Maybe because Ajani is on the cover for the art of JtN, but he could be in BotG too :)

      • Adam Gillespie

Apart from the fact there’s only one planes walker in this set and we know who she is ….. Ajani is next set

        • MagicGALAXY

Okay seems legit to me :)

  • Brad

Also, Rosewater said there would be 10 mythic minor gods

  • Oto

And have you forgotten about funny handsome guy from the Theros initial spoiling poster? Where is Dack Fayden?

    • TheEyeless

That was comic book art, for the high tide promo, website mistake putting it on theros. though he is a charachter from theros, there is no gurantee we will see him anytime soon, like, kiora is from zendikar, maybe we see mr. fayden in the next block, i hope we return somewhere… kamigawa or zendikar… shut up, lemme dream

      • TheEyeless

And guess what else ol’ eyeless read. Kiora is on theros for a reason, same reason nissa’s traveling around, she’s searching for help to defeat the eldrazi in zendikar, we may return real soon. Me and my friends saw a platapus, me and my friends wrote a comic book, and guess how long it took, i can do anything i want cuz look… wait, not a song. what i meant was, me and my friends think we will visit zendikar again in the next 2 years.

  • ZedWrecker

So, I read the Planeswalker’s Guide to Born of the Gods, and I think we might be able to expect at least Mogis. Which I’m ecstatic about. Also, minotaurs are, apparently, the main antagonistic force other than Xenagos. I’m so excited for minotaur madness I’m pooping in my shoes.

  • welan

God vs planeswalker and a new race born from the god… that s pretty much crush the hero becoming god theory. I am surprise there is no mention of Ajani either. Or the leonin.

    • ZedWrecker

Seriously, they teased leonin and then only gave us one example. I hope BotG gives us at least five more cat people.

      • Disciple of Garruk

but really leonin have no place in theros. they do not appear in roman mythology, unless you know something I don’t. we will probably get a good chunk of centaurs, they’ll combine well with ravnica block.

        • ZedWrecker

Mythologically, I agree, but it is a historical note that leonin once served an archon dictator who ruled one of the polises, and then they were cast out for their servitude and betrayal of Heliod.
Also, what’s the mythological basis for the Returned? Theros may have its basis in Greek and Roman myth, but at the end of the day, it’s ultimately its own world.

          • Disciple of Garruk

I believe the Returned is referencing anyone from mythology that journeyed to the underworld and returned, like with Madusa’s head.

          • ZedWrecker

….like who?? Perseus didn’t visit the underworld. There is no precedent for any real undead in Greek mythology, so the Theros idea of the Returned has no real foundation. SOme mention in Gilgamesh, but that’s Sumarian, I think, so that doesn’t strictly count.

          • eeeeeeeeeeet

there is Odyssey, where Odysseus journeyed into the underworld to ask the seer about his actions when tried to return home.

          • ZedWrecker

Yeah, but Odysseus didn’t come back as a gold-mask wearing zombie without a soul, he came back as Odysseus. So, strictly speaking, he’s not a returned in the Theros sense.

          • AdventureMormon

I think the returned is just something that they added to the set that isn’t a part of Greek or Roman mythology. They’re just a whole bunch of warriors from the Underworld, like the armies of Erebos or something.

          • ZedWrecker

This answer is sufficient. Just wanted to hear someone admit it.

        • Ajani’s home dog

I agree about the leonin thing but it could be likeelder scrolls where they just kinda moved to theros. it doesn’t mean they have to be natural on the plane.

  • sphinxy246

theres alot of talk about a g/w ajani. i have not seen anyone post anything for maybe a naya ajani. it would make sense because the of naya being his home plane(if you could call it a plane) and the amount of time since he has spent in Alara. i guess a guy can hope for a second tri colored planeswalker.

  • Disciple of Garruk

I highly doubt any 3 color cards. with the devotion mechanic supporting mono and the lack of anything 3 color since Nicol Bolas, I don’t see any 3 color cards on the way. I could see a new mono or dual color Ajani.

  • Disciple of Garruk

    ultimate magic block:
I see a grand finally to the nicol bolas war in my mind. A set where planeswalker is the main theme and mechanic. The set will include 5 mono planeswalkers, a new incarnation of bolas (possibly 5 color), creature card versions of familiar planeswalkers, and a multitude of planeswalker specific cards. examples of these could include.
instant, W, put a loyalty counter on target planeswalker.
sorcery, 3G, target planewalker you control exchances loyalty counters with target planeswalker.
artifact, 3, 10tap: sacrifice to search your library for target planeswalker card and put it into play.
Creature, BB, 1/1, if this creature is attacking a planeswalker it cannot be blocked.
sorcery, 1R, deal 4 damage to target planeswalker.
    etc.
This will be the grand finally to the story of MTG and will take place on Dominaria.

    • Disciple of Garruk

      “exchanges”

    • That Guy

sorry to break the news to you, but they will never make a planeswalker based set. Wizards has said before that they will never make a commons or uncommon that interacts specifically with a planeswalker because that should be a “rare” thing.
P.S. I think you mean finale, not finally

      • jerry smith

that guy that always has bad news.

        • Polluted

He doen’t smell good that guy.

      • Disciple of Garruk

just a grand dream of an unobtainable future I guess. and yes, I did misspell that word.

  • Nordic

    My theory about the gods:
They will all be the allied Colored ones.
    Why?:
    - Two is practically confirmed (mogis+xenagos)
    - U/G god is unlikely because of Kioura
    - W/G god is likely if there will be G/W ajani in JiN
    - they will at the release of BoTG have all ally colored scry lands while they are still missing two enemy colored lands

    • theboredfrog

We have already been told there are a total of 15 gods…. the 5 mono colored are the primary gods with 10 lesser gods… one for each color combo. On a side note i doubt xenagos is on the lesser gods list. He seems to have found a way to become a god, therefor not of the original 15

      • azmagiccc

if you look at the flavor text and names of the theros cards it mentions a bunch of the lesser gods. Here’s what I’ve come up with. Kruphix (U/G from card prophet of kruphix), Keranos (R/U, from card steam augury and lightning strike), Athreos (B/W from card scholar of athreos), Iroas (R/W from card priest of iroas), Pharika (G/B from card pharikas mender), Xenagos (R/G he becomes a lesser god, from spoiler art), and I think Karametra may be G/W. There will also be a legendary creature named Basarios the Blade who will be B/?. Still no insight as to the Rakdos, Dimir, Azorius color gods

        • azmagiccc

ok so Mogis is the R/B lesser god, if you search google images you can see an image of a giant minotaur god which is him. also they have a pic of Pharika, and Xenagos the god

  • No Name

    And so the spoilers start!

  • Chi Sarades

    spoilers yessss

  • keencole

Can anyone explain tribute to me? Why would my opponent ever put 6 counters on my 6/6 to make him a 12/12?

    • bob

to avoid a fight especially if they can kill him like most mono black or control decks will, or if they have something that will win them the game provided it is still alive n their turn and doesn’t want it to die. there are reasons just not many

      • CorvusV

to the best of my knowledge It doesn’t matter if opponent puts the counters on or not. If opponent doesn’t put counters on it you MAY fight a creature, never said whose creature you have to fight; meaning you can fight your own creature.

        • John Kerpan

Not sure I understand you. Your opponent either lets you fight something with it, or lets it become a 12/12. If you are playing against mono-black, then it is probably a very cheap 12/12 that will die right away. Against decks that cannot kill it with one card, your opponent is left with the awkward choice of letting you kill their best creature, or facing down a 12/12.

    • TheSoggyTaco

So, its turn 5, your turn. your opponent has a prophet of kruphix and sylvan caryatid on the board while you have nothing. You tap out to play obzedat which will easily turn the game in your favor. With your obzedat on the board your opponent flashes in Wild Nessian Devestator! either he will fight your obzedat, kill him and still be alive, or you put 6 +1/+1 counters on the hydra and hope to draw a removal spell to save you and obzedat. (or if you have one in your hand you just doom blade the hydra next turn hoping your opponent won’t counter that.)

    • CodyGozRawr

If they don’t pay the tribute, then the 6/6 will fight one of their creatures, which they probably wont want to happen.

  • Kenny Frank

The green and blue promos are good. The white one on the other hand, is pretty bad. Seven mana makes it hard to play, and it only fits into a limited number of decks.

    • Necro

      It’s an EDH bomb.

  • tyke5140

One can only hope the effects get whackier after the pre-release promos are spoiled.

  • theboredfrog

Its been too long sense we have had an evil planeswalker who was nonred and nonlily… last one i can remember was tezz but im coming up blank past that… or did i miss one?

    • Disciple of Garruk

      how about Vraska?

      • Antares

        Who said Vraska was evil?

        • MVT

          The people she kills, mostly.

          • Antares

Nobody ever said the people she killed didn’t ask for it. XD

          • Luke Myers

Jace did. I mean. Why else would there be a duel deck?

          • theboredfrog

Vraska probably just ticked Azorius council off more than she normally does and told Jace to go after her…. he is kinda a chaotic neutral in my opinion… its complicated…

    • No Name

      Sorin maybe?

      • alfabed21

        ashiok

        • theboredfrog

Sorin is technically a “good” plainswalker… even being a black walker his motives are “good”… but i had no clue ashiok was on evil side but makes me feel much better thanks for the info alfa

          • AreUsilly

What, and the Xenagos is surely good… After all, destroying goodhood is a so humble motive.

          • theboredfrog

i had said at the begining nonred…. js

    • sphinxy246

saying good or evil on these character is kinda hard, even with some of them only having a paragraph or some of lore, they are shockingly complex characters. you have characters who are like tibalt where we can say he is evil but then you have characters like bolas who we can easly say is not good but at the same time he isnt completely evil as in he will fix his wrong and fight for the greater good (referance to time spirel block). though closest thing to not good planeswalkers lately are vraska, ral(ish), ashiok, and xenogos. also in this set kiora is not a exactly a good character if you have read up on her. i know i named alot of red walkers and a apologize.

      • theboredfrog

I agree although i would still call bolas pretty much evil even in timespiral if im not mistaken only reason he helped the greater good was his alternative was the end of the multiverse which would be very bad for him… most of the walkers land in a pretty grey zone just depends on perspective and i love that

        • sphinxy246

i know that about bolas, i was just trying to give him more credit then he deserves. but yeah they are all likeable characters to some exstant.

  • LethalRecon

so for the blue white god im guessing the devotion for blue and white counts both colors together not each color individually right????

  • MTG player

Ephara… Finally a use for Akroan Horse

    • AdventureMormon

I like the Akroan horse… But Ephara just makes it all better.

  • ComboTime

No one commenting on Pain Seer yet? I’m shocked.

    • AdventureMormon

Definitely an interesting card. I wouldn’t mind using it in a monoblack devotion because of all the lifegain I would get from the Whip Of Erebos and the Gray merchants. Now we actually have something to spend all that life on!

      • Antares

You’d need to put in Springleaf Drum or another way of tapping the dude beyond attacking. So that’s between 6 and 8 cards to remove, depending on how much consistency you want.

        • Pain Seer

add thought seize… turn one drum, turn two Pain Seer tapped, and a thought seize from the extra mana, if used right this could give time walk like power.

    • Mikael the unwanted

Of course it was a lot. See the comments dirctly on the card, a lot has been said.

  • magicritic12

    I REALLY dont like Ephara

    • John Kerpan

Well, it gives W/U aggro decks a source of card advantage :P

      • Antares

        Beyond Jace, yes. :D

I expect to be able to do some very mean and nasty things combining those two.

    • Mikael the unwanted

Really, have you thought to all the possibilities?

  • Tunotoo

Looking forward to Pharika, oddly enough

    • The non-grixis grixis-player

Well, Pharika is com i Journey to Nyx.
bBtw, I lok forward to Phenax, even though I play black-red, red-blue or blue-balck (not Grixis tough) and nothing else…

      • tunotoo

I know she’s going to show up in JiN, I’m just excited for any silly graveyard shenanagins she brings into play

  • AdventureMormon

Hooray for Kiora’s follower! A way to activate all those awesome “Inspired” Cards. There better be some that can do that for black, too, otherwise my mono-black lifesteal is gonna suck.

    • Kevan Kramer

You could use the drum or go into BUG.

  • trader-online.de

On Daily MTG, it is said that the six best cards should be spoiled tomorrow on 8PM. Save your dollars for the presale, there is a lot of money to do, I say.

    • Beautiful_Face

It seems starting… That second god is amazing. I need to take my girlfriend now! I’m too exited…

  • harrison Fink

Looking forward to the r/w god to back up my Akros/Boros deck.

    • Hand of the Praetors

Not in BotG, all gods this set will most likely be ally colors

      • No Name

They are, Wizards stated that Allied Colors in Born of the Gods and Enemy Colors in Journey into Nyx

  • luffy’s hat

oh man duel color two-drop gods? niceee maybe now these mono colored decks won’t be so dominant

    • Bennyboy

Who is this guy and why is he insulting the human race by speaking?

    • logangood

      Mogis isn’t a 2 drop he’s a 4 he’s not a minotaur he’s a God so ragemonger won’t effect him

      • Dylan Pestell

        .

  • LAZYPANDA

    MOGIS IS BEAST MODE

  • CrpHavok

    Mogis 10/10, oh god.

    • Treyjee

      how?

      • CrpHavok

I mean, his coolness is 10 out of 10. Best multicolored god for now, imo.

        • AdventureMormon

Up until the U/B god comes. Then you better say goodbye.

          • Zombie

It’s funny because Mogis is better than Phenax.

        • Treyjee

makes sense now. yea i love all the gods except for heliod xD

  • Larom

    Mogis is awesome!

    • AdventureMormon

He looks really painful…Any R/B deck would be happy to have him.

      • Larom

He even can kill other gods!

        • Question

          How?

          • FanaticFan of Mogis

Sacrifice, assuming they were that desperate.

          • theboredfrog

if they had no other creatures they would be unlikely to have the devotion to be a sac-able creature and if you were required sac your god you might as well scoop

          • logangood

If they didn’t have another creature to sac you couldn’t sac a God because he isn’t a creature or a God he’s an enchantment

          • Reyos Blackwood

If you made them that desperate, you have already won.

  • Tommy

This inspired ability got me thinking… what if lands had inspired? what benefits could you get without it being too good?

    • Shreda

that’s pointless because their is no risk in tapping it, it might as well say at the beginning of your upkeep…..

  • ZedWrecker

Guys, I think we were given hints of Theros’ flavor before Theros even came out. Look at Vela the Night-Clad and Krond the Dawn-Clad. Flavor-wise, they’re almost mythic figures, right? Like agents of the gods? Also, looking closer at Krond, he works best when enchanted, costs 3 white and 3 green, and is even an archon, a pretty heavy figure in Theros setting.
Then, we have Karador, Ghost Chieftain, who in his bio is a Nessian Centaur. Nessia is one of the locales of Theros. But what I don’t get is he’s a spirit. On Theros, the dead come back as either eidolons, which are just angry, mindless spirits, or Returned, undead that have no memories, just operating on shadows of their former life. But Karador is a full-functioning spirit entity who can also bring back other dead. Either a) Karador represents a narrative misstep by WotC in preparation for Theros or b) he is from the “future.” and represents some kind of bizarre alteration to how the dead function on Theros.

  • Elliot Burkitt

Looking forward to the Blue / Black god. Assuming that it will follow the trend of only requiring 7 devotion to get online, a single Nightveil Specter would to the job. I also remain hopeful that it will gave a mill mechanic strapped onto it, as Mill is just not quite there as a viable strategy right now.

    • Andrew

Nightveil would only count as 3 toward devotion. Hybrid mana only counts as one, not both.

      • Guest

Actually no Elliot is right it counts as 3 for blue and 3 for black

        • eltratzo

it is stated on dailymtg in the article “the mechanics of born of the gods”(or something similar enough to find it) under the header Gods that hybrid manasymbols do not count twice for a two coloured god’s trigger, which would mean that phenax would probably need two specters to get online.

        • Person

Not to just step in here but wizards has already touch on this subject and said that an either or color only counts toward the devotion so it would only count as 3

          • Person

            *counts 1 toward the devotion

        • Joe Makero

You are wrong. It says specifically that it counts the number of mana symbols. If there are 3 mana symbols on a card, how can the mana symbols be counted 6 times? Look at maro tumblr it’s explained there

        • Wonderdog

Nope – as is clearly stated in the BOTG mechanic FAQ, dual colour mana costs count as one or the other for devotion, so a single NVS only counts as 3 devotion against a UB gods creature requirement

    • Richard S.

A single nightVale would add 3 devotion, either blue Black or a mix, you can’t count each symbol twice, they are either/or not both at same time. However if you had thassa and erebos down it would count towards both for devotion as you would add up for one, then the other counting each symbol once per devotion check.

  • Disciple of Garruk

it sucks that as a god, xenagos is not considered a satyr, that’s a blow to my satyr tribal idea. I still need a satyr lord regardless.

  • Disciple of Garruk

great, with ragemonger around I expect to see nothing but minotaur decks at FNMs. like black wasn’t already about the strongest color in standard.

    • Smerck

You have tribues dancing in your head!

    • AdventureMormon

I expect to see some like that for other colors too. If that doesn’t work, then Bile Blight the ragemongers.

  • i love ajani

    imagine mogis with arabos

    • Zombie

You’re too stupid to love ajani. Wait, no… ajani is always a stupid card, so maybe you’re too stupid to play ajani. That’s it, end of discussion. Go back feeding your cats!

      • Jonas

Lol at feeding the cats. But, deeply, you’re right.

      • Spoiled

        ever seen a flying elephant?

        • Reyos Blackwood

elephant token with an aven mimeomancer feather token on it so yes I have.

          • AdventureMormon

            Wait that actually happened?

          • Reyos Blackwood

Yeah, the players in that game refered to it as dumbo, since it could fly because it had a ‘magic feather’

          • AdventureMormon

            That is beautiful.

    • Treyjee

      airuhbose*

  • ZedWrecker

CONFIRMED, EVERYONE WHO SAID XENAGOS WOULD NOT BE A GOD IS A BIG OLD DUMMY.

    • TheEyeless

      Well said sir, well said.

  • AllHailXenagos

Finally,Xenagos is a god!!! Loving the new mechanics too.

  • Pentiiwolf

Karametra…is it a joke? do i need that turn 7 ramp in a white/green deck?

    • Frenchman_in_NY

YES! MERDE! Only real good MERDE. Just need a little more MERDE in this set, just in case I must go CACA! This sets deserves FOUTRE in the face. ¿
      Ola ?

    • TheEyeless

No you don’t, Mogis sucks, Karametra sucks, and so does Ephera… our hopes were too high for these gods, we’ve been let down.. GO XENAGOS!

      • Hans Giesfeldt

screw you i like mogis. karametra and ephara though… yeah. not good enough.

        • jojoyk8

karametra is ment to be in my deck its massive ramp 3 turn play and ramping for world spire 5th turn

          • Hans Giesfeldt

i meant for standard, i actually have like 2-3 edh each of them would work in. (and mogis was for casual stuff anyway lol)

          • TheEyeless

            worldspine*…

        • Orangeish Mage

WHY IS EVERYONE IGNORING HOW MASSIVELY BUFF BANT (blue/green/white) DECKS ARE GOING TO BE WITH KARAMETRA AND EMPHARA?

      • BobTheTitan

Mogis is not that bad… continuous 2 damage to your opponents. Not amazing but not horrible

      • AdventureMormon

Dude…Mogis rules, Karametra is an EDH master, and Ephara is an amazing asset to any Azorius deck. Think of the possibilities for each god before you assume they suck.

        • TheEyeless

I think 2 damage doesn’t matter when i have a bow of nylea, or a nissa revane, or wellwisher… he’s also just slow, karametra is an edh master? for turn 7 mana ramp? why would you possibly need mana after turn seven? it’s called arbor elf. ephara…. ew. one more card, better grab a venser’s journal

          • AdventureMormon

If you’re ramping right, like a good EDH, then she isn’t turn 7, and she is a massive help. Mogis is awesome for those Minotaur decks because with how fast those decks play and how hard they punch, it’s up to you if you want to take the extra damage or get punched extremely hard the next turn. Don’t base your arguments around a few cards and the situation that might occur if, IF you get those cards while your opponent has Mogis on the field.
Also, you don’t need Venser’s Journal for Ephara to be good. Just the cards make it worth it. Any good U/W isn’t going to have many cards in hand after either countering/bouncing your creatures or sending out a lot of their own. Ephara makes sure you have a lot of cards, and through that, a lot of options. I don’t understand why people hate on card-drawing effects. They’re actually really awesome, and it’s why good card-drawing cards are super expensive.

    • Spoiled

      worldspine wurm O_O

    • Reyos Blackwood

Landfall EDH with her at the top. Or even just for the deck thinning in any format.

  • Dylan Shepard

who will be the 5th god in this set

    • John Kerpan

It will have to be a blue/black god :)

      • Reyos Blackwood

the gods in this set had been revealed for weeks now. It is the blue black god. Other spoiler sites have him but all we know is the name and art.

  • Dylan Pestell

The fifth god will be phenax.

    • Sensei

Can’t wait to know what he does.

      • AdventureMormon

Probably something about exiling cards and playing them while being allowed to spend mana as though it were mana of any color. U/B seems to like that in this block.

  • Red Mage

all the gods on this expac suck. But i’m glad they finaly gave black some mass removal.

    • Bennyboy

      You’re joking right? You’re either joking or don’t have a clue….

      • Zombie

        I hope he’s joking.

        Please be joking.

Mogis wouldn’t like it if you weren’t joking.

        • Brenno

He’s not joking, he is just used to the current turbo charged standard…. probably believes a card that costs more than 3 sucks.

          • Antares

You didn’t play in Innistrad/RTR Standard, did you?

Also, the reason everyone is going “I hope he’s joking” is because Mono-black has been DOMINATING the format. At my LGS, about half of the decks at any standard event will be Mono-black. It’s the only deck that consistently places decks at top 8, often multiple times. The only ones that have a chance are U/W Control and Mono-U aggro. Thanks to it getting Bile Blight (strictly better Pharika’s Cure) and Drown In Sorrow (Strictly Better Infest), it will probably become even MORE overpowered.

  • Red Mage

mono black all the way ! with the new mass removal cards mono black will dominate the format.

    • Zombie

Mono Black Devotion already is dominating the format.

    • TheEyeless

Spot removal can easily be slowed with the green archetype, so yeah, Dominate Green! No, but the black cards are pretty sick, i’m just a green person, well, not physically, i’m white… caucasian, you know what i meant.

  • Red Mage

30 removals 6 creatures and lilianna of the dark realms x4, done and done ! “Let Yagmoth’s will be done !”

    • Sensei

A red mage worshiping Yagmoth ? Sacrilege !

  • avfd

    Who is the Red-White God?

    • Juanito Jones

      Iroas

    • Dylan Pestell

      Iroas centaur god

  • phildragonbleu

Dealin 1 damage to the opponent for each drawned card, im SO gonna use whispering madness with it for the game day. Possibility to do 14 damage in one turn.

    • DeathMetalLlama

OR JMA’s ult for maximum lols

      • AdventureMormon

If anyone actually used his ult.

  • Brad

I think white is finally getting what it needs to be competitive, especially token-wise, I see nykthos allowing emmara to be cast and tokens poppining up everywhere

    • tyquisha

what does Nykthoas have to do with tokens?

      • John Kerpan

Nykthos uses devotion to get a ton of mana.
You use mana to create tokens (Heliod, for example)
You have better White spells that provide devotions, hence more mana with Nykthos meaning tokens might be more competitive.

        • rumballtron

you are out on a limb there i think. devotion and tokens are kind of a nonbo because tokens don’t give you devotion, so in devotion it is better to cast regular old creatures to get more devotion, allowing you to cast more creatures. and i dont think emmara will be playable. ever. at all. sadly :(

  • Anthony Bartolomey

So I assume Nessian is the best choice at green because he can outright kill 3 of the other heroes. With green also having some top tier commons in Theros I think this is the way to go.

  • lordhutty

I liked it better when serra angel and shivan dragon were the best 2 creatures in magic lol

    • Necro

Can’t go back to ye good ol’ beta.

The first OP creature imho was the ornithopter.

  • Dimitrije Simic

    GIVE US PHENAX!

    • AdventureMormon

      Done.

  • DoogleHallow

Why must the spoilers stop over the weekends, I’m starting to get withdrawal symptoms. And shame of you wizards for leaving my favorite God till last!!

    • MagicSpoiler

Sometimes we do have spoilers over the weekend. Do not loose hope :)

      • Dr. Storm Crow

Hey, what happened to all that ZedWrecker guy’s comments??

  • Ian Thrower

PLEASE! Just confirm we’re getting the other two temples. I’m going crazy here. Golgari crazy.

    • Austin kehn

i hate to say it atm but if you look at the cards released so far there are no golgari or izzet cards out in this set as of now. I do not know if they are building anticipation or if they are holding off releasing golgari and izzet for the people that want it until the next set. Its just something to think about

      • Ian Thrower

Yeah, I think you’re right. iQuit. *jumps off chair*

  • guest

why is there a good mono colored card for each color but green

    • Guest

Nylea is the green god, she just is the worst god so you have never heard of her

      • guest

i knew about her but what i am saying is that mono green has not been getting a good card in a long time the only one i remember is kalonian hydra and that one is still not as good as the reds boros reckoner, stormbreath dragon, and a billion other red cards in standard.

        • guest

I guess they want to focus on red green this block so i will just change to those colors, i just hope they print a good green creature this set because red is my least favorite color

    • TheEyeless

Archetype of endurance isn’t good enough for you?

      • guest

he costs 8 mana i just wanted a good creature that is under 5 like how there is a good card for each other color that can be casted on the mana curve.

  • Leafbladefighter

Prepare for the U/B black god to be horrible to the point it is unplayable. Think about it, U and B devotion are the best already, so why would would Wotc make a good card for it? The only possible way to make him fair would make him mill and make his P/T be equal to his CMC, because as previously mentioned, only one creature could make it a creature.

    • Mike Thomas

Um, no, actually. Well, yes, because Phenax is guaranteed to be bad, but you need more than one creature. Daily mtg had an explanation done already about this: devotion to X and Y means that for each mana symbol in a permanent, it checks whether it is X or Y. If so, it adds 1 devotion. So something like nightveil spector adds 3 devotion to blue and black, not 6.

    • Kiowa

yea mike is right nightveil spector only has 3 devotion. It be sooooooo broken if that wasnt the case and nightveil spector would then be like a $30 card at that point

  • luffy’s hat

I’m sensing some funky naya brews in the future

  • MagicGALAXY

You know what would be amazing? If there were mana creatures that wouldn’t tap to add mana, but to take AWAY mana.
    For example;

    (Name) 1GG

    Creature-Elf Mage MYTHIC RARE

[Tap] Choice a creature type. Creatures of those types cost 1 less to cast for the color of your choice until end of turn.

    1/2

It would be amazing, but ridiculous because of AAAALLLL those 1 drops, but I would like to see some sort of playable version of this :)

    • Necro

You just really like elves, don’t you?

      • TheEyeless

No, one does not simply “really like” elves, we love them. I bet you like springjack goats :)

        • Necro

I’m more of a ‘Wrath of God’ type of guy.

  • TheEyeless

archetype of endurance is amazing right? like asceticism on steroids XD

  • Disciple of Garruk

REALLY! A five color card in born? could it really fit into anything but a sliver deck with manaweft?

    • blang13

      Springleaf drum?

      • Max

        FETCHES REPRINT!

        • MagicGALAXY

          . . . . . . . .

    • Alec Hubert

i think its a challenge by wizards to see how the minds of magic players work and if someone could make it work in standard

    • Christopher Badgerow

might be a surprise creature in a Maze’s End deck

  • Purpleish Mage

WHY IS EVERYONE IGNORING HOW MASSIVELY BUFF BANT (blue/green/white) DECKS ARE GOING TO BE WITH KARAMETRA AND EMPHARA?

    • rumballtron

those gods are not very good. you dont really want to be ramping on turn 5 i don’t think do you? unless its into a bigtime revelation, so maybe, but it might just be too late at that point?

      • sphinxy246

you dont need to ramp but you also want to draw the lands less, just saying that on top of revy makes for a nasty turn.

  • OblivioN

phenax might actualy be playable . . . but i doubt it

  • OblivioN

hopefully with whelming wave, we’ll see a few more of those creature types. i love how well this will fit into ula’s temple decks.

    • rumballtron

but will it be an overwhelming wave or an underwhelming wave?

  • Reyos Blackwood

    Octopus + Octopus = Octopi

    • John Kerpan

There are three acceptable pluralizations of octopus. In order of “correctness”:
      1: Octopodes (oc-tah’-po-days)
      2: Octopuses
3: Octopi (this is least correct because it is not from the Latin 2nd declension)

      • Usrawrs

        1: Storm Crow
        2: storm crow
        3: Octopodes

  • AdventureMormon

Dude. Phenax is even better than I thought. That mill ability…

    • The non-grixis grixis-player

Yeah, I Think of getting him and use him in some kind of ultra-aggro-legacyepic-level3000 deck with no mill elements.
New god is born: Matteus, God of the Sarcasm (me)

      • AdventureMormon

You don’t even need good mill elements in your deck to make it a mill. Just grab a playset of Phenax then run a whole bunch of defenders, creature bounce/removal, and card searching.

        • The non-grixis grixis-player

Thank you. I think I will do that actually. have some black and blue with high toughness. Just need the playset of Phenax’s…

  • Anthony Bartolomey

Spoil some commons so we can get ready for the prerelease.

    • TheEyeless

Yeah, and make some of them satyr tribal…

      • Disciple of Garruk

AMEN, I’ve been begging for tribal satyr for months now.

        • Hand of the Praetors

          Adaptive automaton

  • Sean

Phenax is actually going to be annoying in casual, due to consuming aberration. Competitively I’d love to see him played, only because he’s mill and mill is poop.

  • Spoiled

    more minotaurs!

  • trina

Where is female ? Where is our political correctness?

  • trina

Where is female Minotaur? Where is our political correctness?

    • Conner Goodrow

Not to dampen your thought, but mythologicaly, there were no female minotaurs. And considering this set is based on Greek and Roman Mythology, they’ve already taken liberties by having more than one Minotaur in the first place. Pretty sure female Minotaurs only really existed in Warcraft.

      • Fatherhollis

        Zedruu?

        • Conner Goodrow

Only a Minotaur because the card says so. Looks more like an Ibix.

          • Tristin Wolf Jones-Green

The point still stands they existed outside of Warcraft

          • Draag

And there is the Hurloon Shaman from Weatherlight

      • trina

Mythologicaly … There was no Centaur or Satyr female, but they are in this set. There was only 1 Minotaur, but WotC did a big minotaur tribe. So, I demand one-drop female minotaur. 2/1, Haste.

    • Little red

Trust me you don’t want more female minotaurs, Hurloon Shaman : “I believe it when they say they’re connected to the land—looks like somebody plowed her face”

  • Conner Goodrow

Nyxborn Rollicker looks friggin awesome in limited. Can’t wait to draft this set.

  • The_Magic_Plays_The_Game.

Anyone else here excited to see Xenagos become the Gruul god? Or for the Minotaur god Mogis release to run a fun Minotaur deck?

  • T1nker

    Phenax, God of Deception+Fate Unraveler+Traumatize+ Psichic spiral+Tome scour+Consumming aberration (+Rogue’s Passage)+ Jace, memory adept… Many OP combinations for me…

    • jonya

Tom Scour + Aberration + Phenax + Traumatize + Mind Grind = Where’s ur library, bro?

      • Ludicolo

        Tom Scour– 1UU
        Sorcery
Search target player’s hand, graveyard, and library and exile all cards from them named “Tom”

        • jonya

          WAT?
          Card Name: Tome Scour
          Mana Cost: U
          Types: Sorcery
Card Text: Target player puts the top five cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard.

  • ProfessorTallguy

So, I lived in Japan like 10 years ago, but I think it says “Intrepid- Whenever Siren untaps, Name (some Kanji) search your library for a card of that (Kanji) and put it into your hand. Can anyone translate it any better?

    • minotaur

yeah that kanji means discard…from your opponent’s hand…and then take a card from their library and place it in the graveplace.

  • minotaur

where is my 1 drop minotaur…..? :S doesnt have to be anything special…..just a 1/1 for 1. i have my 3 and 4 drop slots allllll full now

    • Spoiled

      mutavault

    • THEGREAT

      …or even a one-drop 2/2 with a slight drawback…

    • the brad

      look up didgeridoo

    • Necro

      Raka Disciple/Didgeridoo/Mutavault do the job.

    • blang13

Ok, where is the 1 drop minotaur (or like) besides mutavault, since it is, you know, like $30.

    • lergin

its unlikely that we will get a 1 drop minotaur, they aren’t supposed to be small, thats why most (i think all bar mutavault) of the ones in standard have at least a combined power and toughness of 5 or more.

      • Josh

The idea of the young Minotaur in the “battle the horde” deck could be a starting concept for a 1 drop in the next set. So I can see how they could make it work.

  • innovativeguy@

When are they going to print a bestow creature with heroic?

    • The non-grixis grixis-player

Probably never, I’m afraid… See, Bestow and Heroic are separated because you are upposed to use them in the same deck, not on the same card…

    • Happy

I guess it doesn’t make sense with the flavor. The creatures with bestow are creatures from nyx, that the gods made, and creatures with heroic are non-divine creatures, and almost all of them are humans, just like the greek heroes.

  • Aaron Seet

still waiting for the black and red archetypes REALLY liked that Fated Return

    • Pulverizerg

Looks like Red one will be with Haste.

      • dmaster1213

        the red one is trample

  • HungryForWisdom

Guys, are we getting one more Planeswalker in this set or not? Guess he/she would be monocolored….

    • MTGBolt

Only 1 Planeswalker for this set if I’m not mistaken

    • CodyGozRawr

Ajani will be in the next set, hopefully he’ll be GW, but he could also be mono white.

      • Kevin Lelouch

        Don’t forget DACK FAYDEN,

        • James S Agee

Dack Fayden won’t be in this Block. The “Dack Fayden comes to Theros” was talking about the Comics, NOT the card.

  • Tank Johnson

Was hoping for a BG scry land for my BUG and jund deck :( and a RU for my American control! Oh well.. Bant and nya time.

    • CodyGozRawr

Those two scry lands will probably be in the next set.

  • Superfrown

    Necobite is back! Wooo!

  • dmaster

does anyone else want a demon god? or angel god? or how about a dragon god!!!

    • Dylan Pestell

      That would be amazing

    • MagicGALAXY

Anyone up for a. . .STORM CROW GOD!!! :D

      • Hans Giesfeldt

only if we can have a…. MOUNTAIN GOAT GOD!

        • MagicGALAXY

          YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!

  • Mono black devotion

What is the name of the black white god

    • Dylan Pestell

      Athreos

  • Leongnidas

are there only three temple in this set?

    • Aaron Seet

yep and they are the only three land exclusive to the set

  • greenwhite FTW

do u reckon in the next expansion there will be good black red cards

  • MagicGALAXY

I going to do the Pre-Release on Feb. 1st for Sealed. I am going to be playing. . .well. . .ummm. . .Blue this time!

Best of luck to anyone else that’s going! :D

    • guest

Yeah I am still deciding on either blue or green for prerelease (favorite colors)

      • MagicGALAXY

Yah, I am trying to find a balance b/w Red or Blue (favorite colors).

  • bob

well i think simic is the way to go with the extremely cheap infinte combo

    • Leafbladefighter

wait! what combo? I love combos and i don’t see where it would be?

      • Devon

Kiora’s Follower + Illusionist Bracers = Infinite untapping of any ‘permanent’ long as you untap your Kiora’s Follower equiped with the bracers. This means infinite mana for any spells or enchantments on the field for you.

        • James S Agee

You would have to have a 2nd Follower, it says “Another Target permanent” so it can’t untap itself, but I like your thinking. BUG Phenax Mill anyone?

  • bob

oops read the card wrong nvm

    • THEGREAT

      read what wrong?

  • Leo

The gods would stand no chance against the phyrexians.

    • MagicGALAXY

      Really? That’s so weird. . .

    • Leafbladefighter

hmmmm…. really expensive duel decks? like… Gods vs. Phyrexians and both would be rain bow and we would have all five main gods and all five preators?!?!??!

    • Ludicolo

he gods are so unthinkably powerful that the phyrexians would really have no chance. If Phyrexians were to actually invade Theros somehow, most of them would be pretty dead, pretty quickly. The gods have the ability to explode mountains at a whim, for god’s sake. Pun entirely intended.

  • guest

too bad nylea wasn’t in this set or the tribute cards would have been better for limited

    • guest

      for limited

    • Pedro Abreu

In Limited there are Theros Packs as well. It’s usually 3 Theros and 3 BNG

      • guest

Oh, I did not know this. I went to three other prereleases and they only did that at the dragons maze.

        • That Guy

That only happens for small sets like BNG and dragon’s maze. Theros, gatecrash and RTR were all large sets.

    • Leafbladefighter

even so, its hard to go mono in limited

  • Hamz

Worst edition in a long time.

    • Alec Hubert

correction dragon’s maze was the worst edition in a long time you just suck

      • Hanz

voice of ressurgence and progenitor mimic were in dragon’s maze. Voice is certainly a staple. I don’t see any in this edition.

        • Antares

Brimaz would like a word with you. So would Spirit of the Labyrinth.

      • Hanz

        correction: Brimaz is pretty strong

        • Orion Moore

          Bro-maz is definitely a dude.

    • Disciple of Garruk

agreed. besides making mill a viable deck this set contains very little in the way of helping already constructed standard decks. I believe this is a very weak set.

    • Leafbladefighter

there is just so much wrong with this comment. Everyone got what they wanted!
Gruul/Jund/anything else that runs g/r got Godly Xegagos, monoblack got removal, white weenies got counter-control and a way to gerate a lot of tokens, monoblue devotion got a good counterspell, mill got a god, and duel colors got three more scrylands.

      • Robot_Commander

and on top of that, how can you not be enthralled with this awesome theme they’ve come up with for the theros block? This greek god, minotaur, satyr, devotion, tribute, etc. just seems like the freaking coolest thing to me

    • Ludicolo

What about dark ascension, dragon’s maze and every core set? Considering the fact that this set has a nice little gift for everyone and every format, I think it’s actually one of the best. I like this set even more that Ravnica, simply because
Standard: Brimaz, Searing Blood, Mogis, Xenagos, Spirit of the Labyrinth, Bile Blight, Hero of Iroas, Eidelon of Countless Battles, Kiora, Herald of Torment, Pain Seer, Ragemonger (maybe), Siren of the Silent Song, Whelming Wave, Scourge of Skola Vale and others
Modern: Brimaz, Spirit of the Labyrinth, Bile Blight
EDH: All the gods, Brimaz, Pain Seer, Whelming Wave, Kiora, Whim of the Fates, Perplexing Chimera, Scourge of Skola Vale, etc.

This was overall a very pleasing set in my opinion because of its influence of so many formats.

  • DA

    Only 1 planeswalker???? :(

    • Leafbladefighter

      sadly yes

    • Antares

Isn’t that the norm for small sets?

  • THEGREAT

    one-drop…
    I said one-drop.

  • Ryan

Well mill deck lovers can no longer remain atheists if they are now. Phenax is the god for them, him in a deck with some good high toughness “Defender” cards could be very dangerous, very quickly.

    • jonya

Phenax must be epic with Consuming Aberrations

      • PopcornBunni

The only problem with that though, is that they compete for the same drop spot, so being able to both get and use both is a challenge. Besides which, Phenax mills for a devastating amount alone, enough to win the game in two turns or so in a dedicated deck. Consuming is for a deck that has mill effects as a consequence, or otherwise mills early on. Phenax hits the field and (when not exiled by terrorist white commons) aims to win in a stalled board state. They’re both good, but any mill card is good with Consuming; very few big butts are.

        • jonya

Phenax will be pretty nice addition to my mill deck

      • Daniel Gilmore

I’ve played a deck with both, proxying Phenax (my play group has a dedicated “Future Standard” are where we can proxy unreleased cards without scorn). Using Phenax, Consuming Aberration, and Triton Tactics, I managed to mill an opponent for over 60 cards in a single turn.

  • Hans Giesfeldt

what do you guys think the best promo for prerelease is? i’m thinking white or red.

    • MagicGALAXY

I think Red is good because of the great deal of damage you can do and getting past obstacle. White is good for is controlling the board with creatures and using quite a bit of enchantments.

It’s really just how you play :D

      • Orion Moore

With how many creatures are also enchantments in this set(&gods) I’m thinking white.

    • Ryan

I’ll do you one better, I’ll rank them in my view. Red, Blue, White, Black, Green.

Preferred color of the set overall though is probably blue.

    • Leafbladefighter

      Na black all the way

      • Hans Giesfeldt

i didn’t mean the art lol.

  • Disciple of Garruk

I’m very disappointed in xenagos. I was hoping for some mana excel or satyr production/enhancement. he provides very little help to my gruul deck. Please tell me someone agrees that xenagos was a complete let down.

    • guest

actually most gods from this set is not as good as theros, but xenagos is the second best god in this set. Sincerly g/r already got enough cards for both standard and limited and if this god was more powerful, then g/r would have been to powerful for all other decks (except mono black).

    • mfbinc

they can’t have gruul ramp too fast or else it would dominate….xenegos god will be fun to play in drafts…..standard? i guess we will all find out….

    • Kevin Lelouch

Just play 4XArchetype of Aggression, I’m pretty sure you’ll change your mind on this god.

  • Disciple of Garruk

I see this set as mainly sideboard help with cards like spirit if the labyrinth screwing blue and black decks. eat spirit erobos.

  • Ryan

Let’s rank the archetypes based upon nothing more than my personal feelings…
First, Archetype of Imagination (blue, flying). We have flying you don’t. Good luck stopping any attack I want to do (especially since I don’t see a whole lot of REACH in this set).

Second, Archetype of Courage (white, first strike): This was a tough one between white and black but first strike trumps deathtouch plus it’s mana cheaper.

Third, Archetype of Finality(black, deathtouch): You may not get to hit first, but anything that gets hit is dead. That’s pretty good.

Fourth, Archetype of Aggression (red, trample): Honestly in my opinion the weakest of the universal powers (as great as trample is that says a lot) but it is only a 3 cost. In a red deck that relies on speed and hitting hard and fast, this could be very useful. In a good gruul deck a permanent giving everything you have trample can be down right terrifying

Fifth, Archetype of Endurance (green, hexproof): Archetype of Endruance (green, hexproof): Downside to this card is not
many of the other side of the board will be bringing forth many hexproof
creatures. Reason for that is hexproof is potent enough a buff it
doesn’t appear very often. And as a bonus, this is the one Archetype
you don’t have to worry about getting Griptided, Lightning Bolted,
Hero’s Downfalled, etc either. Cost of 8 though is expensive even in a green deck. Cheaper it’d be no. 1 or 2 without question.

  • Disciple of Garruk

please explain the manifestation counter. this card does not state the purpose of the counter, only that it gets it. no other card references this counter type. the added enchantment type to the card effect is stated separately from the counter effect, meaning one does not reflect the other.

    • newfrickinshow

Unless the manifestation counter is just a reminder that the card is an enchantment too. Until further explanation I’m just going to assume that’s where they were going with it.

      • PopcornBunni

It is indeed just a reminder. It stays an enchantment, if for some reason, the counter gets removed, and if it gets placed on a nonenchantment, that permanent will not become an enchantment.

    • JMogi

      Ethereal Armor

  • Aubrey Turpin

is it just me or does this set REALLY help mono white cat tribal decks?

    • Kevin Lelouch

The cats are also soldier and soldiers are better than cats for white tribal deck. But yes it does help the cat deck.

  • logan devore

yea whenever u cast a kitty cat u can say “here kitty kitty kitty”

  • guest

How many rares is the max you can get at a pre-release

    • Austin kehn

for a prerelease it would be 11 i believe and thats if you get a foil rare along with a regular rare in every pack. This is not counting prizes

      • Necro

        12. Promo + 6 Rares and 5 Foil Rares.

  • Joe Caulkins

Does anybody else think it would be cool if they brought undying back and combined it with tribute? Don’t have any “If the tribute is not paid” ability. The undying already has that basically integrated in the ability combination. So, like, an example: 2B 2/2 Tribute 2 Undying as an uncommon. You get either a 4/4 for 3 mana, not bad, or a 2/2 undying for 3 mana.

    • Me

Just through in Undying Evil with your Tribute deck =D !
